Sockets removed, and a proc has been added in comparison with CATA versions.
This will be probably BiS for various classes for the first Tier.
This should have a stamina bonus on the proc, given that the strength bonus is arguable for tanks. I really hate it that Blizzard shoehorns roles into specific professions like they do now.
I was wondering how often the trinket will proc. our highest stat (intel. for instance). It states that it " When you heal or deal damage you have a chance to increase your Strength, Agility, or Intellect by 4561 for 15 sec." But, how often will it actually proc? If it isn't very often, then it would be really nice if you could put a meta socket onto the trinket so that the different classes that may have alchemy have the ability to add a beneficial gem that will supply a constant stat for them. I'm super excited to see this trinket in the new expansion, I've been waiting a long time for an upgraded trinket for us alchemist. :) Thank you for any info that you are able to provide.
On beta, you needed 3 Golden Lotus to create your trinket, along with this quest item, which is a random drop. I got mine off of a boss in a regular mode dungeon. They may decide to change it in the future, but for now, happy farming!
With a confirmed 55 second internal cooldown, this trinket will be a very very strong pre-raid trinket for damage dealing classes.
Sims are showing that this trinket is neck and neck with the next best pre-raid trinket for feral druids (Searing Words), and significantly ahead of any alternatives.
Without a Spirit/Dodge Proc, this will only be a DPS trinket. Shame that Blizzard is once again starting the expansion an alchemist stone only useful for a couple of Classes.
In Cata it only launched with the
Lifebound Alchemist Stone
, and later added the
Volatile Alchemist Stone
Quicksilver Alchemist Stone
Vibrant Alchemist Stone
In TBC the expansion launched with only the
and then later added the
Assassin's Alchemist Stone
Redeemer's Alchemist Stone
Sorcerer's Alchemist Stone
Guardian's Alchemist Stone
TLDR; Hopefully Blizzard adds a spirit/dodge proc for healers/tanks.
Anybody know the buff (name or id) applied by the proc?
Quest for mine dropped today after an hour of questing off a trash mob. Have a feeling it will work like the JC quests that dropped in Uldum, I don't expect alchemists to have to spend days farming it. Just don't lose it, because like JC ones, you probably won't get it again.
So i had this trinket and it wont procs for me as a rogue. I tried it on a dummy for like 5min and no single buff. Anyone has an idea?
I created this item on my Shaman shortly after launch. I haven't calculated the proc times, but I know its often. After equipping this item, my heals and dps output improved immensely. Only downfall is the Golden Lotus - Uther is running 2500 per (if not herb). More to come.
Contrary to what NathanBrazil said, this DOES consume the lotuses used. Just made it on my shaman tonight and watched them drop from 6 to 3.
The trinket procced outside of battle from my Mend Pet... can't say I'm overly fond of that happening.
Small note for Druids who get benefit from their main stats for their current forms.
As balance druid myself when trinket procs, that total intellect gain also added to agility when I shapeshift to cat or bear form, thanks to Killer Instinct. It also works with resto spec.
I didn't tested it with guardian and feral specs thou but their spell power also increased due to agility buff, thanks to Nurturing Instinct.
Alchemist druids becomes better druids with this trinket.
Has the same spell effect of
Darkmoon Card: Greatness
the original! :D
With an internal cooldown of 55 seconds and its proc lasting for 15 seconds, the proc is equivalent to having a maximum of:
4561 * (15/55) = 1243 Int/Agility/Strength
For warlocks at least, this is possibly the BiS Pre-Raid Trinket considering Mastery is the best or the 2nd best stat.
The buff may seem next to useless, but it's GREAT combined with the Alchemist Rejuvenation potions. It's a REAL lifesaver, and the reagents for the potions are abundantly available.
This thing procs for me all the time. Sometimes I'm not even sure from what. Not sure if I'm paying attention to everything, but sometimes it seems to proc while I'm just walking around. Might be a rogue buff or something that's triggering it.
But is it any good? My spell power drops drastically if i wear this.
Note for spellcasting/melee hybrids that aren't Druids: remember that Expertise Rating = Hit Rating for the purpose of Spellcasting, so if you happen to be an Elemental/Enhance shaman, you can reforge this to Expertise and use it for both gear sets.
(Guardian/Feral)/(Boomkin/Resto) are limited to reforging this to something like crit if they don't want Mastery. (As spirit/hit, etc wouldn't be as useful to Guardians)
Proc'ing the buff seems to remove
. Can anyone confirm this?
Edit: Seems to be fixed.
I assume we need this stone to get any procs on Mist level transmutes. I leveled my Alchemy to 600 without leaving Stormwind and when I hit the Jade Forest I had this quest drop in the first 15 mins I was in the zone. Being a Herbalist I figured I would just pick up the Golden Lotus's as I leveled, only found 1 so far but I am only lvl 86 and still in the Forest. I just did my 9th Living Steel and have not had a proc yet and it just dawned on me I probably need the Zen Alchemist Stone to get a proc. Can anyone confirm this?
Don't vendor this item when you stop using it.... I vendored and so the quest starter item keeps dropping every 2 mins. Just dump it in the bank to avoid this annoyance. I ended up using 3 golden lotus to make it again just to avoid it.
Is it possible that this trinket is a bit over-budgeted? Looking at the amount of agility, the proc chance and internal CD, it seems to be only marginally worse than
even though it's two tiers below.
As a note for holy and ret paladins, this trinket will proc off of the heal over time effect applied from our
talent ability, not just when initially casting the spell.
This has been buffed with patch 5.1 to be ilvl 458. Old stats at ilvl 450 were: 751 mastery, 4041 int/str/agi proc.
Now it's quite competitive with even heroic level trinkets. For example from a balance druid perspective using
Zen Alchemist Stone
(upgraded, reforge mastery -> crit): 523*0.4 + 348*0.46 + 4913*0.25 =
Blossom of Pure Snow
(double upgraded): 1162 + 3872*0.25*0.46 =
Light of the Cosmos
(as is, reforge haste -> crit): 487*0.46 + 731*0.4 + 3653*0.3 =
(assuming worst case 30% uptime)
As of 5.1 this is now ilevel 458 and can be upgraded for 1500 JP to the following stats
Item Level 466
Upgrade Level 1/1
+871 Mastery (4.86 @ L85)
Equip: When you heal or deal damage you have a chance to increase your Strength, Agility, or Intellect by 4691 for 15 sec. Your highest stat is always chosen...
Alchemist Stone affect has also received an upgrade to 43%, up from 40%
The potion bonus was initially 43% on the upgrade at 5.1 release but was reverted to 40% later.
I'm trying to figure out how good it is compared to 476 trinkets for a warlock after it's been upgraded to 466. askmrrobot shows it as #8 BiS if I upgrade it, which seems farfetched to me. Though as an Affliction lock, mastery with an int proc is perfect... Lyzoldas of US-Stormreaver-Horde
Just for clarity if anyone else was wondering what I was, the quest for this item does not reward a recipe to be learned in the alchemy tab as previous expansions' alchemist stones were able to be crafted repeatedly. I contacted a GM with this question and it was intended by Blizz to just provide the item and no recipe. Hope this helps anyone else wondering this.
Does it boost
Potion of Focus
As of todays hotfix patch notes:
Players that have deleted their Zen Alchemist Stone can now obtain the Strange Spherical Stone to repeat the quest "Strange Spherical Stone" to earn a new one.
I personally would advise looking into Blizzard's item restoration service on their website first, but a nice alternative if its been a long time since you deleted yours.
i know this can be upgraded for 1500 jp but can someone please tell me where to get it done?
Currently as of 12/15/12 the bug seems to be fixed. I just had the quest item drop with my toon having the lvl 80 cata stone equiped.
Lvl 85 alch at 600.
Hope this helps.
So as of today, the proc from this trinket appears to not activate at all if the player is a rogue. I've been whacking at a dummy for 5 minutes and have not seen this proc once. The issue may have been fixed for other classes, but not the rogue apparently. Bug report submitted.
Maxed out alchemy, herbalism was at 565, level 86. Could NOT get this puppy to drop despite grinding through Jade Forest! Thanks to a commenter above, I put my current stone in my bank -- didn't need to vendor it -- went back to the jade forest, got it in three kills. Hope this saves someone some time and pain! :)
Although when you upgrade it it doesn't say it upgrades the proc, it does.
It may be obvious, but just to be explicit: The
does not have any effect on the healing or mana provided by
. Those items still provide only 120,000 health and 30,000 mana.
So can anybody give step by step instructions on how to upgrade the stone? I've been looking and everyone says they have done it but not how......
was 575 alchemy and for whatever reason the quest item wasn't dropping for me. i had the previous stone in my bag. however, after i harvested a lotus node and got the lotus loot buff, first mob i killed dropped it. my previous stone was still in the bag.
as an enhance shaman, the proc is devastating and seems to stack with elemental blast buff. it procs pretty much every mob and my shammy is tearing through mobs before my 12 sec elemental blast cooldown is even ready. prior to this stone, a single mob would take me over 12 sec to kill (using an ilevel 450 mainhand/offhand).
Recipe now learned from alchemy trainer at 500 skill.
I searched out this thread, because it seems that the ilev of the item will not be high enough later. I think blizz should make an allowance for this. Perhaps a new upgrade mechanic that drops off random mobs in item level appropriate zones. Such as, at level 85, this recipe drops in Jade Forest, (where I got mine). Then later, it could drop from say Thunder Isles mobs, for item level 476 and perhaps higher from "elites" or "rares" in this zone.
An even simpler solution, would be to remove the "Equip" status on the healing bonus. So that because you are an alchemist, AND have to carry a stone for transmutes, you get the +40% as a profession bonus, even if the stone is not equipped. Keep the mastery and stat bonus as need to be equipped to benefit, but the bonus heals from the stone should actually be an alchemy profession bonus. IMO at least.
I mean, really, a jewel crafter doesn't need to equip a jewel crafting kit to keep the bonus gem cuts active, (such as the jc only gems), and a skinner doesn't have to equip a skinning knife to skin (yet they still also get +10 skinning from the skinning knife bonus)
I'm thinking ahead, when your item level affects the game content you can access. For example, some raids require item level 480 to enter. If you have item lev 479 with this stone equipped, well you are just SOL unless you take a higher level, but less useful trinket to pad your item level.
As a non-raiding 85, giving up
is very difficult, but just to show the difference, my Mastery went from 28% to 37%, and DPS in blah MoP greens went from 2500ish to 3300ish with the proc, don't remember the exact number. Procs about as often as any other trinket, so I can see using it on my hunter for a while, but eventually replacing it.
This crafted item is bind-on-pickup (BoP)
. This means you must learn the pattern and craft the item on the toon who wants to wear it.
BoP Craft Confirm
addon helps save you from accidentally crafting BoP items that you intend to trade or auction.
My guild is just starting to work through gold challenge modes (4 more to go!), and I wanted to point out that the stone does NOT have its proc diminished by the item reduction. I have it upgraded with JP to ilvl 466, and the proc is the same value in challenge mode as outside, which makes it a very strong choice.
Goes from orange to grey at 545 I think.
Do not let people lie to you. This trinket is pure !@#$ in challenge modes And even worse in Proving Grounds, it procs maybe once in 5 minutes.
I would suggest 2 trinkets.
This trinket is great whenever you know you are gonna need to bust ass. It has a 25 second duration and it's something you can control. Highly recommended.
This one also has a really long duration and a really low cool down. another very good trinket.
Originally only obtained from the quest started by
Strange Spherical Stone
, but since 5.2 also taught by alchemist trainers.
*Updated for 6.1* - Philosopher's and Alchemist's Stones over the years
-New for 6.1-
Remember, you need one of these to be either equipped or in your bag to do transmutations. Enjoy!
