these can be found on any Mushan the easiest ones i have found to get them of so far is the Mushan beast in the grassy cline west of thunderfoot fields in the vally of the four winds
As well as west of Thunderfoot Fields, there are good farming spots south of the river and south west in Valley of the Four Winds, around Nesingwary's Safari.
There are groups of Mushan here to farm.
The drop rate seems to be around 30%.
The best place I've found to farm this is in Townlong Steppes just south of Kri'Vess.
For players at least
, I would undoubtedly recommend farming
. It may look counterintuitive, because those beasts are not only level 90, but also pretty healthy (512k health). Disregard those downsides for a moment and consider:
will net you approximately 350k damage total per mushan.
Large number of mushan in the area, with fast respawn rate.
High drop rate - 60% vs the standard 30% you would get in lower level zones.
All in all, you get to quickly kill a large number of mushan, who also drop more ribs because of their high monster level. Plus, the Dreadsworn you will want to MC are right around the corner. As a Retribution Paladin in a not-so-good gear (~445 average item level), I was easily able to average 3 mushan per minute. At 60% drop rate, that's about 2 ribs per minute. I imagine classes who dual wield fast weapons (and/or have better gear) will be able to perform even better, as the Unstable Serum is applied on a per attack basis.
Note: Okay, I lied. The Vor'thik Dreadsworn won't use his ridiculously powerful ability on every mushan, so you won't get 350k out of it and Raining Blood. But it's still damn fast to farm them.(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##
I've managed to collect all 50 pieces I needed to get "Way of the Pot" specialization to 600 in exactly 12 minutes by first clearing
s in DW then killing
s in TS. The two areas are relatively close to eachother so you can jump to the other farmspot if your current one is depleted.
However if you're able to AoE large packs of lvl 88 mobs it is way faster to grind the mushans in Townlong since you'll kill 6-8 mobs at once as they're often wandering in flocks. Also, they have the same droprate. In addition to this, those mobs in Townlong have only 270K HP while the Dread Wastes version of mushans have 510K, making Townlong Steppes much better farming spot for Ribs than DW.
However a healthy mix of the mentioned areas is recommended for farming since both places can go out of mobs very fast especially if the mobs are overgrinded.
I like farming these at skyrange in valley of the four winds. The Skyrange Mushan's are level 90, and almost every one I killed dropped some ribs. I even got some motes of harmony while farming the ribs, and each one drops 2-5 pieces of exotic leather, along with a prismatic scale most of the time, which is always a plus for us leather workers. Just don't stand with your back to the edge, because they will punt you off the cliff when they belly flop.
Mushan's are a tough fight. If you kite them, though, they can't toss you.
Just thought I'd mention something that hadn't been said yet.
Another perk to farming the Greatback Mushan near the daily quest hub in the Dread Wastes... is the buffs given.
I play an
warlock. I strongly recommend "Silent Lucidity" (granted by Iyyokuk) because when it pops, Dark Soul: Misery has only a 0.5 second cool down, thus making the killing of these Greatback Mushans a breeze!
I disagree. I've tried the comments posted here in the various locations. The best farming - easiest and best drop - for me was in Townlong Steppes, between Shadow-pan Garrison and Kri'Vess. It took me about 25-30 minutes to collect the 50 i needed to max out the Way of the Pot cooking the banquet.
I usually farm for these between Shang's Stead and Grassy Cline flight master in Valley of the Four Winds. They don't always drop ribs but the respawn rate is super fast and they are level 86 so easy to take down for 90s. The turtles close by spawn fast as well in case you need Raw Turtle Meat too.
The mushans at veild stairs respawn after killed like turtles close to them so i spend only 13 min to collect all 50 piece for cooking and the same on the turles.
Mushan Ribs by far the best place is the Wilds over in Vail of Eternal Blossom, I go to Nesingwary's safari and pick up the quest over there and head out. Have someone that is a skinner help you so the respawn time is faster. 180 in 45 minutes.. Plus I'm a miner so I got 67 of Ghost ore.. Have fun, Just leave the BIG grey ones alone they don't drop anything or you can't skin then until quest..
I've tried the mentioned spot - Townlong Steppes, around Kri'vess. 10 minutes took me to gather 50 needed for The Way of the Pot. A lot of Longshadow Bulls and Longshadow Mushans. Really good spot.
The Mushan around Kri'Vess were way better for me than the entirety of Dread Wastes.
There's occasionally a herd of about 7 of them that drop 3-4 meat (and sometimes 0) which was more than every mushan I killed in Dread Wastes in one go.
There's also occasional turtle meat.
As of 9.0.5, the best spot is at 71, 30 in The Valley of the Four Winds. There's plenty of Mushan's to kill and even at lvl 60, the respawn rate was able to keep up with my kills. Took me 10 minutes.
Going around Nesingwary's Safari in Valley of the Four Winds got me the 50 I needed in around 10 minutes.
/way Valley Of the Four Winds 21 72 Mushan ribs
