They're full of it.
Plump Intestines are the Strange Bloated Stomachs,
, of Mists of Pandaria. Obtained from Skinning mobs that yield the new leather, Tanji Leather.
As of build 15589 they contain gold, usually between 1g 50silver and 2g. I'm assuming they'll contain the crafting essences by the time MoP goes live, like Strange Bloated Stomachs did in Cataclysm
These were probably intended to be similar to bloated stomach in Cataclysm. However, early in the MoP beta, the devs decided to go with only one crafting elemental ( Spirit of Harmony) instead of many different types of volatiles etc.
At this time, they only drop gold, but there is a good chance they are intended to drop a Mote of Harmony.
5 gold 8 silver and a mote of harmony out of one of the kitty-things in the Jade Forest. My first thought was: "oh - like the strange bloated stomach". My second thought was: "these MoP critters have a bizarre diet".
If you're out farming skins, a great macro to open these is:
#showtooltip Plump Intestines
/use Plump Intestines
ETA 04/12/14: Was just curious about whether these contributed to the guild perks
and the answer is that they do not. My fresh hunter alt is alone in my level 25 guild, so I saved a few of these to open when I could watch the week's Cash Flow contribution. It did not change even though I opened about 20g worth of Intestines. Anyway, I saw further down the page that someone else had come to find out, so thought I would add the info to this post rather than making a new comment.
I have taken to calling these "Gold Stomachs." I wish they held Motes of Harmony in them too, though.
Edit 1: I have started to see Motes in these!
These are pretty much useless. I had a ton drop on the way to 90 and they all contained a small amount of gold (not even 2g) and maybe a gray item. You'd be better off if a normal bop gray item drops, it would be worth more. Blizz failed here.
"Looks Like They Beasts Be Swallowin Our Gold!"
"It's Making Me Economy Go Down The Hell Pipe, Eh?"
Although extremely rare, I have experienced getting two Plump Intestines from skinning one mob (just now from an elite Enraged Mushan killed during the Sha of Anger raid).
I can't believe alphanhell's post was downrated so heavily for simply saying these are useless, but I guess the blizz PR people are doing thorough work.
They cannot contain motes
, and it isn't simply an extra 2g, it's an inventory space flooded in exchange for an extra 2g. Sure you can just macro and instant-open, but then you may get a worthless grey item and unless you're right at a vendor, you'll have to manually discard it.
Is 2g worth the trouble? It's up to the individual and it's not so blatantly "yes" (or no) that you can make an absolute judgement about it. It's all about what you've got. If you've got plenty of free space, then yes. If you're strapped for inventory spaces, then definitely not; Pandaria is rich with far better greys than come out of these intestines (the toe ring at 5g is the highest you can get and most of the time you'll get one that's priced well under one gold).
To me, they're useless. I actually dropped skinning because of the no-motes issue. If motes are always your limiting reagent, and if you can't glean motes from gathering, there's no reason to gather. Furthermore, unless a grey is 10g or more, I generally discard it
because the space is worth more to me
. I have found I can easily obtain a 15g+ grey from simply killing monsters in the tine I have left daily questing, so I don't see how the statement that this item is useless does not follow. Even if you were just vendoring skins, you'd likely make more money if this item was not in the game and you didn't have to stop and open it. Macro acknowledged, but skins stack and greys don't, and again, there are the greys you're forced to manually discard.
By opening a lot of these I have concluded that the main diet of most beasts in MoP is gold.
I have never seen a mote drop out of these. It's usually a very small amount of gold and at most has a useless gray too.
Possibly the lamest thing in the game.
Can folks please suggest to Blizz that they make some interesting items drop from this container (rarely)? They're almost an annoyance as they exist right now - around 1g and a worthless gray, except for the toe ring, but even then its 5g which is not much. A mote here or there. What about a rare worm pet (since certain worms infest intestines) or a lot of gold or epic/rare world BOEs, or special rare/epics/greens. Make the drop rates low on these items. I don't know. Even another gray worth 50g+ would make these more exciting. Something. Anything.
Or...they could make a leatherworking-only mount drop from them or make special mats to build a LW mount drop from them. I mean, Jewelcrafting has mounts - why not leatherworking? We don't even have any pets. A leather kite or leather balloon or something. Just make these containers more interesting.
How I imagine Blizzard discussion when making this item:
- Hey, let's give skinners some "mats stomach" again
- Cool let's do it
- Uhm, it doesn't quite work with the proffesion system we created. Shall we remove them?
- Nope, let's just make them useless
Actually I think this type of item is a great idea by Blizzard. Probably the best thing they've ever done for skinners since vanilla. Yet it's reasoning is so harshly overlooked by the general player base.
Bots. This hinders them because it doesn't stack, and is basically worthless. Yes a bot COULD auto remove them, but since there is a chance at 5 gold it's not wise to do so if you're running a bot. It's an unavoidable oxymoron. This is a way to set a maximum threshold on bots and generally slow them down, favoring the casual player who would simply open them immediately.
SO random question, does the gold these contain count towards the guild perk Cash flow?
