It's possible they want to make a caster weapon only paladins and shaman could use. In which case the expertise is an oversight (especially since the heroic version has mastery instead). Or both the expertise and the weapon type are mistakes. I guess we'll see in the later PTR builds.

EDIT: Looks like we have the answer. The item has been fixed in one of the PTR builds and no longer increases expertise rating. It increases mastery rating instead. It's still an axe though, so I'm assuming that part is intentional and won't change. Enjoy your caster axe, pallys and shammys :)

I didn't notice that the Heroic version was mastery. That makes more sense!

I would like if that was their intent. At least priests and druids (and shaman, if they want to do away with their shield for a staff) can use staves and daggers as well as an alternative, but paladins get kinda screwed. At the present, there are exactly two healing weapons for paladins available from raid bosses, the one from Nef, and the one from Cho'gall, and only one of them (the one from Nef) is really itemized properly for healing. The Cho'gall one seems more for DPS.

Well paladins also have maldo's sword cane this tier...oh and the caster swords off Al'Akir...but yeah I agree that its nice to see something other than the standard mace/dagger caster weapons (I loved the fist weapon in Naxx) and if I was'nt planning to go after the legendary staff I would totally use this weapon on my shaman.

Ah, true, I forgot about that one. However, like the mace off Cho'gall, it's more itemized for DPS rather than healing, due to the lack of spirit. Certainly usable, but less than ideal.

Its about time shamans and paladins stopped getting shafted.
It was frankly ridiculous that they hesitated making spellpower axes when they readily pooped out equally narrow weapons.

maybe they want remove shamans from being able wield staffs (and paladins cus they don't have much choice either)
and give em something else useful (i don't like idea elemental shaman wielding legendary staff ! They never used staff at first place why they have to start with legendary)

Not quite :) I absolutely love little gems like this, there really should be at least one per expansion. Paladins shed enough tears over staves and daggers.

List: Caster weapons for non-clothies. There are several other weapons that have Intellect as a holdover from when more classes/specs used the stat, but due to their lack of spell power were not and are not considered caster weapons per se.

Interesting thing is until Blizzard fixes the issue with any Spell Power weapon being 2.0 or slower speed, it will likely be BiS for enhancement shamans.

They should really make a sword with spirit, or just anything that's just for Holy Paladins. Shamans can still use staves, we Holy Paladins are having a really hard time getting proper weapons since Cataclysm...

Not exactly, there's one from Al'Akir though your chances of getting not only the sword to drop but then getting the haste/spirit version ontop of that are pretty slim.

If you're lucky you can get the Haste/Spirit combo on the Sword of Al'akir though your chances of getting it to drop then getting the perfect itemization are pretty slim..

Currently this weapon is not showing up on any list on boss/mob drops this. At this point I doubt that this weapon will make it live.

according to the wow armory it has a low drop rate from all bosses in firelands if this is gonna be true or not?... no clue... all i can say is i looked into the eye of purification and saw some strange &*!@ in there.... and it was good

It may drop from multiple bosses, like some other drops from the previous tier. Mine dropped off Shannox 25m tonight.

We had 2 drop off Rhyolith on our first clear, and the alt raid apparently had one drop off Shannox.
So yeah, there are a set of datamined weapons that are not listed in the journal, and it appears they all have a chance to drop off multiple bosses.

Yes, but equally, mages/warlocks can't use maces, priests/druids/shamans can't use swords, and paladins can't use daggers, which means every class could use 4/6 of the weapons, so in that sense it probably was fair though the daggers and maldo's sword cane were easier to obtain than the others.

Tho i do agree with the fact enhance doesnt get much choice when it comes to weapons...i would NEVER use this...considering spirit does nothing for us and intellect doesnt really help much when you only get 175 over your base the mastery is cool and sure spellpower is nice but you dont really need it but then you'd have a 2.0 speed weap that does 1/2 the dmg of a regular weapon...so NO idc how badly you want spellpower you should NOT be using this at all...your dps wont go up much...and you'd look like an idiot

This is one of the Firelands "grab bag" weapons, with a low drop rate off every boss in the zone. Heroic versions also exist.

Most tiers also have tanking one-handers (two specs only), agility swords (one spec only), spirit wands (one class), agility maces/axes/fists (two specs), agility polearms (one class plus one spec), strength bows (one class), tanking guns (one spec), agility throwing weapons (one class), strength one-handers (three specs), strength fists (one spec), agility daggers (one class), etc.

Considering that this is useful to three specs (holydins, resto+elemental shamans), it isn't really any more narrow than other loot that regularly gets put in loot tables. It's just unusual

It's weird how this has 222 in reforgable stats (131Spi + 91Mastery), while 火山之刺 has 228 & 雪莉的无菌手术刀 even has a total of 231.

This item seems to have an unbelievably low drop rate. My guild has no killed 78 heroic bosses now and has yet to see this item drop. Seems a bit silly to me.
