With a 30 second duration, it gives a bit of leeway for how quickly you have to react in preemptively casting it too.
yeah, 30 sec......until u realize a tank is gonna tank that much dmg in about 2-3 hits in a raid

My theory is that this will be used as a way to get a self-DoT that breaks a stun/paralyze effect in a specific fight or style of fights. E.g. something you'd use for an Ozruk-style encounter if you weren't getting the melee bleed DoT placed on you automatically.
This is supported by the fact that the passive stat is dodge, the only universal tank stat at the moment other than stamina. This implies they want every tank to be able to equip this. Even further, mmo-champion marks this item as "Cannot be disenchanted", indicating it will probably drop with a guaranteed 100% rate to make sure tanks have it for a specific fight, but they don't want it to be farmable for Maelstroms.
At least, I really hope this is true, because otherwise this seems like a horrible trinket.

So I'd say the damage dealt by this trinket will be unavoidable (say cannot be absorbed by other effects) or at least cannot be reduced, otherwise you'd benefit twice from those reduction abilities, first when the mob deals the damage, it is reduced before it is absorbed by the trinket buff, and then the 80% of that absorbed damage are reduced as well

Use: Absorbs 20% of incoming damage, up to 170950. After the effect ends, you take 8% of the damage absorbed every 2 sec for 20 sec. Lasts 30 sec.
It seems to work like a Warlock's
Soul Link
spell now (with a small damaging return of course). I like this change, and can see it being used pretty frequently. A full absorb should return about 13.7k damage over 20 seconds, which really isn't much at all considering tanks will have well over 200k hp (buffed) in T12 gear.

.. Pretty useful for pvp, actually.. If it's 170950 damage for everyone when 4.2 goes live, frost mages is becoming even more annoying in PvP....

This is an interesting one. In terms of overall mitigation, it's worse than Gift of the Greatfather, firstly because even with the maximum absorption, the damage reduction is exactly the same, but it has dodge instead of mastery, and secondly because it will cause a large damage spike when the effect finishes and the damage is refunded, if the boss is attacking at the same time. However, as a tanking cooldown trinket, it's totally unmatched by the others - a whopping 20% damage reduction for 30 seconds, unless you somehow manage to take over 680k damage in that time (including the reduction). Although you take the damage back after, this should be after the period of burst damage has finished, greatly smoothing out the incoming damage for your healers to deal with.

You aren't reading it correctly. It isn't 20% of 170950, it's 20% of incoming damage for the duration of the effect with 170950 being the maximum amount that can be absorbed.
Besides, if you wanted to calculate the actual amount absorbed, you'd have to subtract the total damage from the DoT from the total absorbed. From the way it reads, it appears that you will take 80% of the damage originally prevented from the trinket effect.

Correct you are. The way this works is exactly as such.
Over 30 seconds, each hit will have 20% of it absorbed, instead of dealt, until the absorb cap of 170,950 is reached, or 30 seconds expires, whichever comes first.
Once the shield expires, 8% of the total damage absorbed will tick against the user every 2 seconds, for 20 seconds. This will result in 80% of the absorbed damage being applied to the trinket user, which at maximum, is 136,760 damage over 20 seconds. This gives a net maximum result of 34,190 damage being ignored per use of the trinket.
As for using it on Chimaeron, you would need to ensure it never absorbs a Massacre, cause since it does 999,999 damage, it will soak the whole absorb and start it ticking right away. Otherwise, it is usable, say during a Feud (if you time it JUST right that it expires before the Massacre at the end goes off).

Cethis, please, do not tell I am incorrect only to say that I am correct. The MAX absorb of this trinket is 170950, 80% of it will be dealt as a DoT, and only 34190 will be ACTUALLY prevented. This is what, thankfully, ZeroEdgeir has confirmed.
As for Chimaeron - you are right, I forgot about Massacre. I supposed that it could be used for double attack or feud, but indeed, after 30 seconds, massacre would kill the tank. However, since tanks die first, using this trinket in P2 with some slight CD(20% damage reduction) would allow tank to survive ~4-5 hits instead of 2-3. And the DoT means nothing to already dead tank.

up to 170950. So if you use it at 20% (lets say you have 30k health , you pop trinket and you get hitted 30k this item will absorb 6k (so you have 6k left). It wont do much if you try to save it (Will help, but wont save your butt)'

Something like that would be difficult to program, and probably not worthwhile. The double mitigation from stances is pretty small -- it's the difference between returning 20% of the absorbed damage and returning 18% of it. And given the 30-second time lag, any double mitigation from cooldowns or procs will probably be from two separate effects that could have stacked anyway.
The only really big sources of continuous double mitigation are armor and spell resistance, and they can be prevented by changing the damage type to Holy. The cooldown ability is listed as Holy, which suggests that it does that.

This item seems well suited for arena PvP, as well. If not purged (and I'd be surprised if the effect can't be purged), it is a 20% reduction in the damage you take, on-demand. This may be sufficient to survive a period of burst damage while your healer is incapacitated. While it would lead to a later period of increased burst damage (from enemies + trinket aftereffects), that could be sufficient to survive a high-burst period, and smooth out the damage taken.

is the debuff that deals the damage to you. It appears to be affected by damage reduction (Including stance modifiers and bear forms and so on) and, for some insane reason, it can crit o_O

One of the best trinkets to swap in for fights where you need as many reduction CDs as possible, like Heroic Domo. If you don't see the use for this trinket you're probably not doing heroics anyway (i.e. who cares).

I found this trinket damn near worthless, next to alternatives.
At least when you aren't intending to stack up on avoidance or stamina for certain fights.
After getting this trinket and trying it out a few FL bosses, I found the CD was too long and the proc was too minute to make this trinket worth my time. The absorption amount is, unfortunately, just too lacking. When you're taking a millions of HP points in damage over the course of a 5-6 minute fight, you get to use this trinket 2-3 times. Even if you were trying to snuff out a certain blow of one hit, following hits where higher mastery could be present make it less attractive. I found this trinket's proc to be so insignificant in the scale of damage taken over the course of a typical FL boss fight, that I found myself equipping:

I know what some of you are thinking..... wtf? Those two first trinket procs are worthless! You're right, for the theme of damage reduction, they are. But, IMHO, stacking these trinkets is far better than burning Dodge on diminishing returns and relying on a half-ass, long CD absorption proc. These trinkets together, properly FL geared, will have your Block well over 60% and closer to CTC. The value of these trinkets is far greater to me, especially when considering other alternatives (which are fairly absent at this stage).
Not to say I use these all the time. If the fight dictates, like any other tank, I'll bust out my stamina or avoidance trinkets if the fight dictates. But for most FL fights, where most of the damage is melee and avoidance is not prioritized, these trinkets will give you one hell of a bang for your DR buck and spike the hell out of your block with all the loaded passive mastery.
My two cents. Let the flaming commence.

I'm gonna blatantly copy-paste this from a thread I put on the official forums, but my thoughts on this trinket (Speaking as a warrior tank):
Firstly, the passive stats. 383 dodge. Yeah, dodge isn't the best tank stat unless you're a bear, but it's still not terrible. If you have 1500 dodge rating, it's worth 1.7% dodge unreforged, or 1.04% dodge and 1.28% block/crit block for warriors (2.32% CTC) or 1.92% block for pallies (2.96% CTC) reforged to mastery. For warriors, that'll reduce your damage taken by about 1.61%, for pallies, it's about 1.74%, assuming you hit Holy Shield on CD which you probably aren't but shush. If it had 383 mastery, it'd be 3.21% block for warriors or 4.81% block for pallies. For warriors, that's about 1.68% damage reduction, for pallies, that's about 1.76% damage reduction.
Long story short. The dodge isn't that bad. Yeah, you could get plenty more nice CTC if it were a mastery trinket, but just because it's dodge, that doesn't make it bad.
Buuuuuut that's just the minor part of it. The big part is the on use.
Firstly, I'd like to say that I'm a 10 man normal mode tank. I've just started progress on normal Rag now, so your mileage may vary if you do harder hitting content (ie, hard modes and 25 mans).
Firstly, in my opinion, the absorbs 20% of incoming damage is really quite nice. It's like a mini Divine Protection or Barkskin on a longer CD but with potentially a much larger uptime. To fully use up the absorb, you need to take 284900 damage. Obviously, this basically completely rules out this trinket on Baelroc, where your health is insanely high and you'll be taking that sort of damage on every swing, but that's enough damage to one shot a tank on any other boss. Most abilities I'm getting hit by, hit me for less than 50-60k damage. Say, something is hitting me for 60k, it's gonna take four hits to fully use up the absorb, giving it a minimum uptime of at least, I'd say about 8-10 seconds (Although it can easily be less on really hard hitting stuff). Depends on what exactly it is that's hitting me, it has potential to be up for around 20 seconds or so, which makes it effectively the same as Divine Protection. Sure, 20% isn't guaranteed to save your life, but it's really not bad.
So! Moving on to the second part. The bleed. In total, the bleed does 40% of the damage absorbed, so the damage reduction is, in fact, a 12% damage reduction. Which does make it look less good, but keep in mind, steady damage isn't what kills tanks, it's the really hard hitting stuff which is still being cut down by 20% and really, you should be timing this trinket for when stuff is hitting hard, especially if you can time it such that the bleed hits when stuff isn't hitting hard.
But going back to that bleed. You know how hard it ticks for? 4558 damage. That's nothing. That's a random non-elite mob meleeing you. That's less than most healers' hots. Sure, taking damage is bad, but I'd be surprised if 4558 damage every 2 seconds was enough to kill you, and in any case, it's reduced by damage reduction cooldowns so hey, if you're chaining CDs, for example, late on Beth'tilac or Shannox, pop your Stay first, then your Shield Wall when the bleed pops up. Bam! Bleed is now 2734 damage.
So, my final consensus? Really, this trinket's actually pretty good. It's certainly worth picking up, the passive stats really aren't that bad (Although for CTC, I'd still recommend the
Spidersilk Spindle
,
Mirror of Broken Images
and/or
Essence of the Eternal Flame
if you're really desperate) and the use is a quite handy wee defensive cooldown.

There's an important point here that I think has been overlooked, and that is that damage taken in a fight is not uniformal.
On a fight like Shannox, you take more damage while Shannox is armed and has bleeds stacked on you, and less after he throws his weapon or if the DoT stacks are lower. Stay of Execution could be used to cushion the high damage period, dumping the damage taken into the low damage period (you can actually click the buff off to force the bleed at a safe time if appropriate).
And that's not even considering bosses where the tanks, at times, are not taking any significant damage at all (Alysrazor, Ragnaros, Beth'tilac). Using the trinket when it's your turn in the taunt rotation is almost a free 20% mitigation cooldown, since the bleed will hit you when there's no other damage incoming on you.

Though it's technically "Old" this trinket is quite good for the final fight in the Dragon Soul raid.
Impale inflicts a metric ton of damage, even with shield wall, IBF, Dream, etc... up This will Absorb a large chunk of the impale for you, and bleed it back when it's not so spiky.
Also, if you're doing Kalecgos' platform last, you can use this right before the Elementium Bolt lands and you'll absorb 20% of the bolt, then impale hits like 2-3 seconds later and you'll absorb 20% of that too. This buys significant margin for healers at a time where there is a boatload of damage going out to the raid AND a big spike on the tank.
