A nice perk for skinners in Cataclysm, occasionally skinned from beasts in zones which you'd need the Cataclysm Expansion to access. It contains 1 or 2 of a volatile element.
Does anyone know if it can still drop if you already have one in your inventory?
What I would like to know, is if the Volatiles dropped is based on what type of mob you kill.
Example, I was killing stone bats in Deepholm and was getting Air and Earth, and from the Basilisks in Deepholm, Life.
Its just a theory... can anyone confirm this?
I got two of these while levelling skinning. One was in Uldum, where I got volatlie air. The other was on a dragon in twilight highlands, where I got volatile earthx2
Over the course of the past week farming leather and scales from dragons in Deepholm, on average I've skinned approximately 7- 9 of these an hour (vs. enough leather for 2 stacks of heavy savage leather, for comparison). Not too terrible a drop rate, and a nice little easter egg for skinners imo.
Despite the original thoughts that the contents were completely random, I've ended up with 32 fire, 11 air, 7 life, 3 earth & 2 water. Definitely seems slanted in one direction to me.
wowhead shows that its a 20% chance to drop 1-2 volatiles, except for air which shows 1-4 volatiles.
any idea why?
If you open them while having
in inventory, you have 100% chance to receive Volatile air (
) apart from usual loot.
That is the reason why wowhead shows 1-4 volatile air - you can have 2 from engi, 2 normally = 4 together.
(Took me a while to realise it and I was surprise its not mentioned yet.)
from skinning from
I skinned 48 of these little guys and NONE of them dropped anything. So the 97% are meant if you are successful in skinning. I have skinning at 525, so the skill doesn't help.
At least the loot from the 48 was about 20 gold.
Spinescale Basilisk (Hyjal)
Time elapsed: 1 Hour
72 x Basilisk "Liver"
98 x Savage Leather
243 x Savage Leather Scraps
24 x Rigid Basilisk Fang
89 x Roasted Basilisk Skin
7 x Tiny Treasure Chest
5 x Strange Bloated Stomach (Got 2 Fires, 2 Airs, 1 Eearth)
I started at 450 skinning skill and finished at 525.
Earth, water, fire, and air? Obviously these creatures are eating shamans!
i got 4 full stacks of leather before one bloated dropped, drop rates need to increase
Gained from pickpocketing.
What, you never saw a guy steal a stomach from a dragon's pocket?
FYI everybody, I don't know where WoWhead gets their information - possibly from people that want you to waste your time - but some of the mobs listed with the high drop rate when skinning, CAN"T BE SKINNED. Of course I am referring to the:
Sunchaser Gazzle and
I guess some people want you to waste your time doing one thing while they are capitalizing on the other, where the items do drop. Good luck.
Is it me or the stomachs drop rate have been lowered? Skinned a ton of mobs lately and didn't saw one =/
Pickpocketed from Altairus?
Well, that's interesting. Someone who takes bloated stomachs from dragons without killing it first.4
I would also like to point out that Karoma and Sambas have been skinned as a result. When I find out who did...
While farming Stone Drakes in Deepholm for Savage Leather and Blackened Dragonscale, looted a bunch of these stomachs. One of them contained TWO pristine hides. Second one was because of the guild perk.
It would make a lot more sense for these to be called subdermal cyst, or something like that. Considering the miscellaneous organs which drop as grey loot for just killing things, it seems the stomach would be available to anything, whereas a small cyst where some volatile elements have worked their way under the skin (hey, this is a fantasy game, it could happen!) would be something much more likely to be overlooked by a non-LWer.
Just cos the game is unrealistic doesn't mean it gets to be inconsistent!
I think Blizzard has increased the drop rate for these. While I didn't have a hunter with skinning at the level to get these before 4.3.3, compared to what people have been saying about them, I've been getting a LOT of these. While gathering leather for my hunter's LW, I picked these up on average every 5-10 skins while skinning
, as well as other mobs. While it's no concrete proof and I may just be lucky, it does look like a better drop rate than people here seem to be reporting.
