So, It's likely that the Vial will be turned BOE, and that we're looking at the Hog equivalent of this expansion.

I just hope the recipe isn't too uncommon, otherwise the markup is gonna be insane, as if 24k wasn't already. I think I'd have preferred if all it took was to level alchemy...

Not necessarily 24,000g. If you're guild is at Level 24 it will reduce the price down to 21,600 gold. And if Yasmin is affiliated with a Reputation, and you get to Exalted with them, that would bring the price of 8 Sands of Time down to 16,800. Of course, we don't know whether she is or not, we'll see how it all plays out.

TL;DR: To make Vial of the Sands, you may only need 16,800 Gold to get the 8 Sands of Time, instead of ~~24,000g~~.

Edit: I wrote this 4.0.1, The Shattering. This was pure speculation at the time.

This may or may not be true, but I'm certain that it will be faster to farm the 7200g difference than it will to grind the 24 guild levels. This is to say if you are racing to get it as soon as Cataclysm is released.
Based on the average guild of course, and the assumption gold will be slightly easier to get than it is currently in Wotlk. 5k gold in two weeks is currently pretty easy if you know what you are doing, so in cata I'd say 7200 in two weeks would be reasonable.
So maybe at that rate... 6 weeks farming gold for the 24k. Assuming you are both broke and already have the Artisan Riding (280%).
But obviously if you do this sometime after Cataclysm, its quite reasonable to factor in (at least) the guild discount.

I've been looking forward to this mount since news first hit, and Alchemy will probably be maxed before my character is. That said, I'm dumbfounded at the price. While it may be only 16,000 compared to the previously stated 24,000, that's still quite a bit of money - especially considering enchants and gems will be quite a big money sink at the start.

I've already started saving and shouldn't have an issue, but it does seem like an invitation for people to illegally purchase gold.

in contrast to the Mechano-Hog's materials like pistons etc, you can see and buy theese even if you are NOT an alchemist.
i haven't tested yet if they can be traded, but if they can it would be a good way to save some money with a goblin alt.

! WARNING !

Do not do what I did and buy the sands with a goblin and then try to move them across the Neutral auction house, for all 8 sands on the minimum time it costs 4500G deposit!

The vial is ok though, only costs 10G deposit.

I have added a screenshot as proof, hopefully it will be approved fairly quickly.

Does this bind when picked up(?) or could I move a character to a Guild with the level 24 perk "Bartering", buy this with the discount, and send it over to other character to craft the mount?

As of this mornings rolling resets the 燃钢水晶瓶 and 时之砂 does NOT work with 哪里都有好买卖. Seems like a hotfix. I'm now a sad panda. The prices are now set at 4500 and 2700, even for goblins.

Yes, I just found this out the hard way. I made my usual run to buy a Vial and Sands (I sell a vial every 2-3 days on AH), sent my usual 23,200 to my goblin (no i don't have the guild discount) and got to Uldum only to discover the discount was gone. Answered my question from earlier this week though: I could not figure out why I was short 5,000 gold after making my last vial.

This makes me sad because now I cannot compete with players who have the guild discount.

I guess I'm out of the mount business for awhile.

As of Tuesday 05/31/2011 the items need to make the Vial of the Sands, DO NOT get the Goblin racial discount bonus. For those saying it does, it was before the date stated above, which you could stack guild discount + goblin discount for a total of 20300 gold for the mats. However you can still get the guild discount bonus for a total of 26100 gold for the mats.

Lets hope Blizz wont take that too.

not only do you have to lvl alchemist, you have to lvl archaeology too and even then, not guaranteed to get recipe. One of our guildies who's had his alchemist and archaeology maxed out for quite some time has farmed up a crap load of those jars, but no recipe. I wish they make the recipe BoA, my main's a leatherworker and only one i plan on working on archaeology with. I really don't want to have to work it up with my priest alchemist too.

Three 时之砂 are now required for the quest "全视之眼" (along with 25x 永恒余烬) . This is part of the quest chain in order to make 巨龙之怒，泰蕾苟萨的寄魂杖. The chain starts at 应运而生 (Horde) or 应运而生 (Alliance).

I believe that this item is used for the new legendary caster staff 巨龙之怒，泰蕾苟萨的寄魂杖.

You need three of these, plus 25 永恒余烬, one of these are dropped at each major boss in the new Firelands raid.

This is just the first step, so far it's unsure as to the next steps.

In patch 4.3.0, someone found a way to duplicate items, and these were duplicated in large scales. (edit: seems to be fixed)

The price is still the same even though the ones who have duplicated them sell the items cheaper than vendor price.

These are often in the Auction House on my server, Darkspear US Alliance. They range anywhere from 1,000G to 2500G, but lately have been in the low thousand (currently 6 for 1364G each). This has been going on for weeks and the price for Vial of the Sands in trade I've seen all the way down to 19K.

A little fishy considering these are vendor only bought, and the price for the entire Vial of the Sands is less than 8 of these alone cost.

I finally sold my first Vial of the Sands at auction-- very low profit margin, as I refused to buy the duped items when they were available-- and am making my second for my own main's use.

While doing so, I noted that it says "Requires Alchemy (525)." However, it was purchasable by a non-Alchemist, and doesn't do anything when you try to activate it with or without Alchemy. (Yes. I was about to risk 3K gold on an experiment. You're welcome.)

With the new 6.0.2 Warlords of Draenor Pre-Update, there are no more guild perks. This being said, 3,000 gold is one of the lowest prices you'll see, assuming that the Goblin racial stat doesn't affect the price.

As of patch 8.3, it looks like anyone can now get a discount off of this (and Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial) by gaining reputation via the new Uldum Accord faction.

Prior to this, the materials for the Vial of the Sands (Sands of Time x8 & one Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial) costed 29,000 gold; with this new Exalted (20%) discount, these materials should only cost 23,200 gold.

I'm not sure if this intended, but it'll help make crafting the Vial of the Sands mount a bit more affordable. I also have to check if Big Keech also has a new faction tag with the Vale of Eternal Blossoms rework in this patch, which will make crafting other mounts cheaper.

These cost 2400 gold each on my goblin with no reputation with Uldum Accord. (see 哪里都有好买卖). Another comment has stated that goblins do not get the discount for these materials but that seems to be incorrect.

2400 gold is the lowest possible price since being exalted gives a 20% discount (3000*0.8=2400).

Edit: this was in the new Uldum, not old Uldum. To get to the new Uldum I believe level 120 is required (although it could possibly be 110). Yasmin has two distinct NPC IDs depending on the version of the zone. The old Yasmin still has no faction and therefore the discounts are not available at all in old Uldum.

Sooo. Being efficient (ahem, lazy) I wanted to get rep on the highest level toon, who is NOT my alchemist with the Vial of the Sands recipe. This was after spending a few hours attempting to get the alchemist through Uldum for rep with little success. I checked both the Vial and the Sands to ensure neither said "binds on pickup." That was my concern, and I didn't bother reading the rest of the info re the Sands. :) Oh well. A month of Uldum Accord rep farming and the character who has the rep to buy the sands doesn't have the profession requirement. And the character on which I spent way too many hours farming the recipe, she still stands at neutral with Uldum Accord.

Good news: It really is not BOP, so I can send it to the other alchemist. Now to decide if it's worth it to drop Herbalism for alchemy on the main...temporarily. The lower level alchemist isn't going to get Uldum rep, cause I my druid has too much sand in her buttcrack already. No way Imma do that again...

Skim reading: Not always your best choice.

In case my rambling didn't connect the dots for you: You must have the Uldum rep on a character with level 75 Cata alchemy.
