Skinners, since currently everyone is fighting hands, teeth, and arms for mobs, take this time to skin this stuff. Sethria's roost is a perfect spot, people keep killing mobs..yet no one seems to be skinning anything. IT was a gold mine of corpses for me.

Another good spot, Legions Fate, the first area you come to in Vash, you can skin the crab critters for leather. It is a lot more calmer now, however there's still tons of unskinned corpses.

I found too much competition at Sethria's Roost. The
Slitherfin Eels
at the boat just East of Legion's Fate spawn as fast as you can kill them. There's one spot in the center of that area where four spawns will attack you as soon as the previous eels are killed; stand there and just rack up the kills by whatever means you find best as the mobs are just delivered to you. They drop 3-4
Savage Leather Scraps
or a Leather. I've sold about 800 Savage Leather from farming there, and made a pretty penny so far.

I thought the pale roost in Deepholm was a good place.
those stone drakes that everyone has to kill yield 1 savage leather. I found little competition and they died faster than i could skin them. hope this helps other people out there.

The best place to farm this is 100% Obsidian Forest in Twilight highlands. The Obsidian Charscale there give you Blackend dragonscales and sometimes Savage leatherx2 from a skin. They also sometimes drop Strange Bloated Stomachs, which give you random volatiles.
You're welcome. :)
P.s. Don't come on Ravencrest server and ruin my life with this knowledge, thanks!
Edit: The lost city is 100% better than this for straight leather, 5 stacks in 10-20 minutes depends on how fast you can go. But the place i listed is for sure the best for some scales.
Edit: The lost city got nerfed and so did the stone bats. Looks like blizzard wants people to farm the Vanilla/TBC way.

For us LW's out there...if you're goal is to purchase all crafted patterns from the vendor in TH, you'll need 2000 of these. Good luck on your farming.

Ok, please tell me where I am being stupid! The scraps can be right-clicked into savage leather by anyone big enough to reach the buttons on their own mouse, but the leatherworking trainer offers to "teach" me how to do this for 6 odd gold. I'm on my tauren, and she only has three phalanges on each hand and no room in her braincase for cells, but this sounds like a Bliz Goof.

Actually the best place to farm this while a lot of people are leveling is in Uldum in the Cradle of the Ancients. There is a quest where you have to go kill wolves in there.. Most people have to kill 2 to 3 to one quest item in order to complete the quest. Lots of free leather.
The issue is you can't complete the last quest in Uldum in which you open the coffer (The Coffer of Promise). This will transform the area so you are out of phase.

all right, I noticed this hasn't been mentioned yet..
Here's the farming place that is the most efficient, fast, furious, and hilarious lol
TOL BARAD right after the battle is over.
West of Baradin Hold.
Everyone killing crocs for dailies.
Croc corpses all over the place.
Especially if you're from a high pop server, it's quite amazing lol. If you're doing daily each day there anyway, just one skinning session there will net you innumerable number of leathers.
I mean.. we're just keeping the place clean :p

This probably isn't as good as Tol'vir, but if you don't turn in the quest
Blackout
you can keep using the
hook
to jump on a dragon's back. Dragon's don't put up a fight, so you can keep going without needing to bandage/eat. I did this as an 85 mage for a couple hours and never had to stop to get mana. Each one usually drops a
dragon flank
and some leather or dragonscale. Many times you get 2x leather. Mobs are on a perma respawn, so you never run out. Doesn't even matter if there are a dozen other people doing the same thing.
Stops the quest chain - but when you're selling stacks of leather at over a 100g a stack, the follow-up quests can wait.
quick edit - this quest is in twilight highlands at the obsidian forest btw - sorry for leaving that detail out!

Is anyone else slightly annoyed that there is no real place to easily farm leather in cata, such as Sholazar Basin, or the Sons of Hodir daily quest area in Wrath where there were constantly skinnable mobs all over the place, close together and easily killable if no-one was questing them. Now that the stone bats have been nerfed Sethria's roost will be a fist fight.
WTB less elementals and more skinnable mob areas.

New place to farm leather would be Twilight Highlands. From The Black Breach down towards Dragonmaw Port. This area is filled with Owls,Wolves,Gryphons and Elks which are all skinnable (sans doe). They have roughly 50-70k hp but the respawn is fast and there's an awful lot of mobs you will never have to wait on repops.
Coordinates are 61,32 to 66,37

I agree with Hawkish... Twilight Highlands area from Kirthaven southeast to Dragonmaw Port is a great place to farm savage leather. It is unusual to find owls that are skinnable, but they are in this case. The only problem I've noted is issues with being left in combat after killing something (probably due to environmental factors: doe running around after you kill an elk, wolves killing elk on their own etc) but it's still worth it, and the mobs drop cooking mats as well (toughened flesh and delicate wing).

Hope this helps for those Pally Skinners like me ;D

I'm not really sure if it is the BEST place, because I have yet to try other spots. But the spot I just used for the past hour was in the Cradle of the Ancients in Uldum, where all the Shaggy Desert Coyotes are located. There is a decent amount of them, and the respawn rate is pretty good. A few down sides are that the Diseased Vultures flying around are not only annoying, but are also not skinnable, so as a hunter tracking beasts its basically useless to track them. However, there are also Armadillos around the area (neutral beasts) that can be skinned, and there is also a large amount of critters in the area for anyone trying to get the guild achievment for killing 50,000 critters. I found that using multi shot worked great when fighting a single coyote or 2, because the extra arrows hit the critters for 1 shot and kill them. I killed a good 300 critters while farming for leather in this area. Plus, people quest in this area, so most of them will leave bodies around that you can skin. I followed 3 different questers over the course of 15 minutes and gained about 2 stacks of Savage Leather. Also, nothing in this area drops Savage Leather SCRAPS, just the leather itself. Meaning you don't need to combine hundreds of scraps to get your heavy leather =)

I think the best place is Silver Tide Trench in Vashj'ir(The place where 2 goblins are with balloons that you have to fill as quest objective), the mobs will drop scraps sometimes(more chance on 1 Savage Leather), but they are really easy to kill compared to Twilight Highlands mobs that have about 90k HP.

these are the best ones to skin i believe.
They are located in Vashj'ir, between Legion's fate and Seafarer's Tomb, that's the starting place.
(The place you get too when using the Vashj'ir Portal) that can be found in Stormwind on the little isle with all the others portals, after you've done the Hero's Call: Vashj'ir!.
These drop's 1 - 3
蛮皮
about 50 % chance, 2 - 4
蛮皮碎片
about 50 % chance aswell.
(You always get one of them)
And last they aswell have a low skinn chance of
肿胀的怪胃囊
that's around 3 %.
There is loads of crabs and they spawn fast, they only have around 30951 HP so any AoE class can bring them out easily.
The Strange Bloated Stomach has a 20 % chance to drop any of the "Volitale's"
1-4 & 20 %
1-2 & 20 %
动燃之土
1-2 & 20 %
动燃之水
1-2 & 20 %
动燃生命
1-2 & 20 %
And if that's not all, they drop alot of greys that you easily get a few HUNDRED gold of by selling.
(Easier with the addon "SELLJUNK") Helps alot with the selling.

This is genious, thanks for the tip! I did this as a level 80 BM hunter, and even though they take a long time to kill because they are level 85, they never aggro, you take no damage, they respawn constantly, there's no competition, and they give awesome xp since they are so much higher than me.
These dragonkin drop:
coin of varying amounts up to 48 silver
Dragon Flanks (for cooking level 475 - 525 recipes)
Savage Leather (no scraps)
Blackened Dragonscales (also needed for LW)
Strange Bloated Stomachs (which contain 1 or 2 of any of the five Volatile elements: earth, air, fire, water, life)
green weapons and armor of 81-85 level (great to wear or sell for enchanting mats)
Epic purple weapons and gear of 85 level (approx 1% chance, but the items sell for about 20k - 25k gold on my server)
grey weapons at 3-5g each
various grey claws and teeth that sell for up to 8g/stack
Update: I switched to Survival spec and mowed them down much faster. Since they can't be aggro'd and your pet can't reach them, it's much better to use the shots that can kill them faster, many of which are in the Survival tree. Less than 20 seconds per kill at level 80, so level 84-85 players should be able to 2 or 3-shot them.

I was a bit skeptical if
Splitclaw Skitterers
really were that good with their Savage Leather Scraps generally indicating a low-grade farming mob. At least my own tests show they actually
are
good. Even if one other player was killing them they were still respawning fast enough for me to pretty much continuously get skitterers of my own.
To put things into perspective,
Tol'vir remains your best place as long as you're not locked out
After that, if it's just leather you're after, kill
Splitclaw Skitterers
After that, go for Twilight Highlands animals southeast of Kirthaven (
Highland Worgs
,
Highland Elks
,
Tawny Owls
and
Untamed Gryphons
)
If you'd like yourself some
Blackened Dragonscales
, mix and match with Obsidian dragonkin in southern Twilight Highlands (
Obsidian Charscales
,
Obsidian Viletongues
and
Obsidian Pyrewings
). It doesn't seem to matter much whether you actually
have
Wyrmhunter Hooks
from the quest
Blackout
or not. While jumping onto dragons is fun and gives you enemies that don't fight back, the actual amount of leather and dragonscales is pretty much the same as if you're running around on the ground. Do what you enjoy most ;-)
Some (conservative) numbers from what I've seen so far. I play an Assassination Rogue in mid-heroic instance gear. Your mileage may vary:
Tol'vir:
90 Savage Leather (three resets in 15 minutes)
Tol'vir:
Roughly 115 Savage Leather (four resets in 20 minutes)
Vash'jir:
160 Savage Leather per hour
Twilight Highlands
(animals)
:
140 Savage Leather per hour
Twilight Highlands
(Obsidian dragonkin)
:
100 Savage Leather plus 50 Blackened Dragonscales per hour
Conclusion
for me so far:
For leather and nothing else
, max out Tol'vir instance resets (either three resets if I'm queued for a heroic instance, so I can actually still join that once it's ready, four resets otherwise). Once Tol'vir's done, switch to Vash'jir and kill Splitclaw Skitterers. Return to Uldum in time for new Tol'vir instances.
Results in roughly
180 leather per hour (3 resets)
195 leather per hour (4 resets)
For leather mixed with Blackened Dragonscales
, max out Tol'vir instance resets, then switch to either ground- or air-killing Obsidian dragonkin in southern Twilight Highlands. Return to Uldum in time for new Tol'vir instances.
Results in roughly
150 leather and 30 dragonscales per hour (3 resets)
160 leather and 25 dragonscales per hour (4 resets)
For maximum Blackened Dragonscales
, ignore Tol'vir and either ground- or air-kill Obsidian dragonkin in southern Twilight Highlands.
Results in roughly
100 leather and 50 dragonscales per hour
Naturally, depending on gear, dedication, class, talents and whatnot you're bound to get different numbers but the relation between what each location yields will probably be similar. Hope this helps.

The best and most efficient idea I've tried yet. You get 20 savage leather, sometimes 21-22, and maybe a pristine hide within (assuming you aren't awful) 5 minutes or so. Also, to make things quicker, after you kill the tigers, you can step into the entrance where the three friendly mobs are and it will disengage you from the elite. Not to mention rep :D

Now that I've geared up I no longer have to farm for leather in the twilight highlands. I farm the blackened dragonscales there, but the leather I get from city of tol'vir. I wasn't able to handle it before, but now as an assassination rogue, I can even use the technique where I kill the elite and the tigers accordingly through the aoe damage. I do this every few hours when I'm online and have time, and use the leather to buy new recipes :)

I am not surprised they nerfed the stone bats. I am surprised that I can no longer skin the dragons in Grim Batol. They were he only highly reliable source of blackened dragonscales that I know. Almost 100% drop rate. My favorite farming spot is the Shalehide Basilisks in the Pale Roost area of Deepholm. There is a circuit of continuously respawning mobs (read: by the time I get back to the beginning they are starting to respawn) and they have about a 90% drop rate on Basilisk "Liver" which sells for 175g a stack on my server currently. I can do approximately 100 leather per hour. They drop 1 Savage Leather per mob. For a break from the monotony, you can jump over to the Stone Drake area and clean up after all the people questing there. I have yet to get a dragonscale from those mobs, however. And of course, it is nice to throw in a dot to help out the lower levels questing there!

I'm not sure if this has been said, but try applying a DoT to the Obsidian Pyrewings in Twilight Highlands if you are farming the area. They won't aggro but eventually they will drop out of the sky, loot, skin and all - usually around the same place you tagged them!

Of corse the best spot to farm is the tigers just inside the lost city instance. As a Druid (bear) I cc one of the elites and then agro both sides at same time and pop berserk and spam mangle then my aoe attacks until all tigers are dead and then run in the room with the three npc's and wait to go out of combat and go skinning. but you can only do this so many times before it wont let you back in. Another spot is the crocks in the middle of the new PVP zone. a lot of people doing their dailies and leaving a lot of skins.

Went through all the comments and didn't find any good spots but found a really good place in Tol Barad. Best when your faction owns TB but the crocs there have 77K health and are easily killed. In one hour I was able to skin enough to pick up 60 Heavy Savage Leather. This combined with skinning in Lost City you can net yourself a lot of Savage Leather. Enjoy!

It appeares that they nerfed the tigers in Lost City of the Tol'vir. They used to always drop 2xSavage Leather, and now they only drop 1 piece, so that means that skinners will only get half of the amount of skins they were getting usualy. Anyway it still is a good place to skin, because of the lack of competition but it now lines up with the other places in the Cataclysm zones.

As a low level a good place to farm is in Mount Hyjal, West of Ashen Lake where the
Charbringers
roam.
I went there as level 79 and could easily farm them, both with a hunter and a balance druid. They respawn fast and drop 2-4 scraps or 1 savage leather plus occasionally bloated stomachs. Sometimes people questing will leave you several corpses to skin as well. I leveled my skinning from 450 to 525 plus dinged 80 on my druid in an hour and a half or so and I got a lot of leather too. From the savage leather I also got around 20 levels on my LW just from turning scraps to savage leather.

yeah just went to try out tolvir...the amount is definitely alot less. by the time i got locked out i only was able to make 10 heavy savage leather which is less then half you used to be able to get. now it's mainly just 1 leather per tiger. It's still worth doing since you can easily aoe them down and there's zero competition due to it being an instance but if you plan on farming alot of leather then you'll need to go somewhere else when your done.
tol barad's crocs aren't bad if no one is skinning. I was doing dailies there the other day and no one was skinning any mobs so i basically ran around skinning all the crocs people were killing for their daily quest.

They have more or less halved the rate of leather from Tol'Vir, I used to be able to get 110-120 in 5 sessions. I just ran 5 sessions now and I got 54.
Considering it takes me about 15 mins to do this, that's a rate of just over 200 an hour, which of course I can't do because of the instance lockout. But even if I could I think that's now worse that just going out into the world and farming in Hyjal or Vash'jir, so my advice is don't bother any more. It's not worth your time. And if you find another great spot, keep it to yourself! lol

Neferset City is hands down THE best place to farm Savage leather, now that the Lost City instance was nerfed.
They have level 85 tigers there with around 38k HP that drop 1-2 savage leather. They also have a fairly decent spawn rate.
HOWEVER, if you complete and turn in
尼斐塞特城失守
then that part of the zone becomes phased and the tigers all disappear.
Solution: never complete
尼斐塞特城失守
I got 3 stacks of leather there in about 10 minutes, since you can basically 3 shot the tigers. Also, since most people complete the questline, the only other players you will see in that part of the zone are the ones doing the quests.

Another nice spot is in
Shimmering Expanse
. There are tons of
Sandskin Pincers
and
Snapjaw Groupers
in this area.
They have ~30k hp and are very close together. As a Hunter (or any ranged) I can stand in one spot without moving and kill about 6-7 of these crabs and fish. You willl get quite a bit of scraps but the amount of killing you can do in this area makes up for it. The groupers occasionally drop Deepsea scales also.
Another bonus to this area is that you are right next to the Caves where you can vendor all the grey loot really quick.
Sorry I didnt keep track of any exact numbers. Next time I go there i'll go with empty bags so I can be more accurate. I know i got at least 12 bloated stomachs which was nice since I am an engineer with an
Electrostatic Condenser
which netted me about 20 Volatile Airs.
Good Luck.
Edit: I went back and did about 45 minutes of farming and heres my breakdown:
143 Savage leather (90 leather and 269 scraps)
15 Deepsea Scales
6 Bloated Stomachs
81 gold worth of grey vendor trash
5 green item that went to my enchanter
54 Monstrous crabs that I cooked into +hit food
My pet can easily gather 7 of these mobs up since they are so close. For AoE'ing as a hunter, Survival spec works great because of Serpent Spread and the misdirection spam on my pet with the misdirection glyph.

I believe the
BEST
location to farm
savage leather
and
blackened dragonscale
is with
Gloomwing
s. You get 3 at a time, and the respawn time is very short (about 1 minutes or so, I believe). Plus, if you are impatient, or you burn them extra quick, there are other mobs close by to keep you busy, if needed. They are located at 61.5 67.5 or the northwestern most edge of the Obsidian Forest - if they're currently gone (not likely), look for the pile of dead
Doyle Gryphon
s. Please "/ignore" if you are on Garrosh.. thanks :-)

If you're a bit lower level (80-82/3) you can farm Brinescale Serpents. You will also find a serpent by the name of Akasha who has about a 2-3 second respawn. Very easy to just sit there and farm them over and over. You'll get plenty of Savage Leather and Savage Leather Scraps as well as Deepsea Scales and Snake Eyes which can be used or sold for some good coin. You will also fill your bags fast with plenty of vendor fodder for some additional coin.

Best place to farm?
Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but the best place is without a doubt the crocodiles in Tol Barad.
Tonnes of people are doing daily quests here every day which involve killing these, simply just run around and skin what people leave behind. Sure there's people skinning too, but it's like a gold mine of leather, and there's no shortage.
It's usually better to do it immediately after the battle, 'cause that's when the most people are active. I just run around helping people who aren't skinners kill their mobs, if there's nothing around to help myself too. :)
If your faction loses a lot, make sure you join the battle just before the end, so you can hide for a few minutes until your PvP wears off, and then join the grind. You won't be able to get here if the other faction controls the zone, so you need to get in early.

After a few days trying out different spots I have to say that Shimmering Expanse is my personal favourite for farming leather. There is a ledge to the south-west of Nespirah swarming with skinnable mobs.
I start at the very south-west part of it on my shaman and grab packs of 4-7 crabs to aoe down (I don't bother with the groupers - they drop Deepsea Scales which aren't worth much, as well as doing an annoying attack that damages your for 5% of your max health per second). I aoe the crabs down, looting and moving on quickly from section to section until I get to the end of the ledge (it's marked by a drop-off and one of Nespirahs tentacles). After I have done this I log onto my paladin (My skinner, who has a very poor ret set in comparision to my shaman's raid gear). He quickly runs across the ledge, skinning the crabs my shaman has left behind. This whole process takes about 7 minutes, yields me 10-12 savage leather, 3-4 stacks of scraps and the occasional bloated stomach.
Savage Leather goes for 200g a stack on my server, so I've found this to be much more profitable and relaxing than the mining I was doing before, as there is no competition over spots unlike there is for mining.

My method of farming savage is logging off on my Hunter (Skinner) in the Twilight Highlands where the
高地麋鹿
and
棕色猫头鹰
are located. Log on my DK tank, go to the same spot where I parked my hunter and pull all the skinnable mobs I can where my hunter logged off at. Loot all of them (This also includes (small) chances of BoE epics.), log back onto my hunter and skin, and repeat. Easier way for me.

I agree that Sethria's roost is a great spot to farm savage leather when you don't have control of Tol Barad but there are some pros and cons:
Pros:
-Large Numbers of creatures
-Low health
-Fast respawn rate
Cons:
-Drop mostly 2-4 scraps
-Don't seem to drop Blackened Dragonscales
I am able to pull groups of five or six at a time with an 85 feral tank and take almost no damage

As of patch 4.0.6, you can now skin Savage Leather from
Darkwood Broodmothers
and
Darkwood Lurkers
on the Tol Barad peninsula.
I am just basing this on a couple minutes of skinning but I believe this may now be the best place for leather. I am often getting double leather drops, and a significant increase in Bloated Stomachs (although they may have just increased the droprate on those across the board, I do not know for sure). The respawn rate is very good and there are tons of them. Not to mention there are usually people killing them for Tol Barad dailies.

Spiders in Tol Barad is best place to farm the savage leather for me so far, I got roughly 220 leathers in an hour from skinning dead spider off other players or yours. They're everywhere with insane respawn rate!

This
vendor hangs out in Smuggler's Scar in Vash where you can sell and repair. Handy.
Right outside, you have a plethora of animals to skin;
turtles
,
threshers
,
groupers
,
eels
,
crabs
,
serpents
. Not only are they skinnable, they all drop cooking mats.
For your pleasure, this area also has
ore
,
herbs
and
goblins
. Don't bypass the
goblins
, they drop
cloth
,
fish scales
and
oil
and they sell surprisingly well to the lower levels who don't yet have their reagent glyphs.
This area may not be the best for savage leather, by the number, but it's a damn good spot overall.

Hey guys.
For your sake, I just went farming in The Tol Barad Peninsula for 1 hour.
I ended up with 15 stacks of savage leather, which imo is rather good for just one hour.

always people doing their dailys there, piles of spiders, high respawn rates.
most of the time you don't even have to kill them, just run around skinning everything that people have looted.

After trying out both Tol Barad and Shimming Expanse I have to say that for me Vash will win every time. I followed Ariatarka's path (instructions above) with killing the groupers and here are my results:
This list is from exactly one hour of farming as I used
Potion of Treasure Finding
and stopped immediately afterward.
221
Savage Leather
(mind you a lot are scraps I converted, I had to make bag space during farming or else I could give you more specifics)

14
Tiny Treasure Chest
5
Strange Bloated Stomach
127
Monstrous Claw
6
Deepsea Sagefish
4
Fathom Eel
146g from vendor trash
6 green items
I spent 1 hour previously in Tol Barad with a pot up and skinned slightly more savage leather but didn't manage half of the tiny chests, vendor gold, or random greens. I much preferred Vash. For anyone curious I farmed using my bm hunter and a turtle (terrorpene). Spam MD all of the mobs to him, drop an explosive trap, bestial wrath, multi-shot, and they are down in seconds. Takes longer to loot and skin than to kill.

I've never tried farming TB after it ends, but I know that in Deepholm at (36, 18) in The Pale Roost is a great place to farm these and Blackened Dragonscales because the Stone Drakes that fall from the sky have around 50k health and they fall faster than I can skin them. There's hardly any down time at all.

Well now that more people are opening up the dailys for Mark of the World Tree, namely Pyrorachnophobia, I think The Widow's Clutch in the Molten Front will surpass Tol Barad. I have used Tol and Obsidian up till now and had alot of fun Doting the drakes for extra kills, but the only kills i needed to make in the Clutch today was to get past live spiders to loot the sea of leather that was laying there. I made 56 heavy in 36 min. of farming. It helps to give a yell or local defense reminder once and a while asking everyone to please loot their spiders.

Cause i always get only one Leather from Skinning low lvl mobs.

There are two places I had luck farming.
1. Deepholm - In The Pale Roost where the stone giants are throwing rocks at dragons. The dragons are elite, but don't hit as hard as most normal 85 mobs, and are weakened to 1/4 health by the giants surrounding the area. They literally just fall into your lap. They give Savage Leather and Blackened Dragonscales pretty evenly.
2. Molten Front - The spiders in the Forlorn Spire always drop at least one savage leather. If you have already recruited the Shadow Warden with Marks of Hyjal, your job is even easier since a daily quest for killing spiders appears, thus allowing other players to do your dirty work. Watch out for the respawn rate.

A nice place for savage in 4.2 is the Fireland dailies, cinderweb spiders have a ridiculously fast spawn rate and people leave the corpses all over. You'll need the Shadow Wardens unlocked to get the quests for them I believe.

TB is great if there's lots of people about, but nowadays I don't bother.
If Im after dragon scale, pale roost in deepholm.
For savage leather, I've tested Twilight highlands (NW of Dragonmaw) and Vash'jir on the crabs near the sunken ships where you originally arrived.
Twilight highlands guarantees a single skin. Occasional extra one with the guild perk. There's a run between them and you're also fighting level 84 mobs so they take longer to down.
In vash, although you get scraps mostly from the crabs, they're close together and die easily for level 85s (my gear atm is poor questing gear) My moonkin runs along the floorbed to avoid the naga, puts a moonfire and insect swarm on each, continues running round the area then loots/skins after all the mobs are down. I'd guess that area averages 3 scraps per mob plus full skins. I get approx 35 full skins in just over 10 mins in the 3 bordering sandy zones I circuit. Plus because of the sheer number of corpses, you come away with a lot more greenies (lower level ones than TH)

I thought I'd add my own take on the suggestion that
Fulgorater
had posted above, on my hunter alt.
Same mobs, but being BM spec with a turtle (the
Shell Shield
ability of the pet helps a lot, along with usual +healing and tanking pet talents) and using the
Misdirection glyph
constantly once it runs out means that essentially you can group up about 5-8 mobs or possibly more and AoE them down with Multi-Shot and the like.
By doing this in the same spot, I can safely farm with minimal effort and normally with Mend Pet running, there is no damage being done to the pet.

I ran the yellow aggro crabs in Vas'jir starting at the horde start location for that zone, going just a little south, and looping back. Was able to kill most mobs in 2 GCDs, the rest in 3 - assassination rogue (no stealthing, just blow stuff up). I ran a solid hour of treasure farming potion to get an idea (I know others have posted this strat, just offering more statistics).
The number of savage leather listed is after combining the scraps, and was farmed using the guild bonus to gathering. In addition I'm assuming all trade goods you'll want to use, so their value is not included in the final net earnings. Also assuming you pawn off the monstrous claws, as they'd only be useful if you were leveling cooking.

I found that the best place to farm savage leather is in Tol Barad in the middle killing Darkwood Broodmother, Darkwood Lurker, and the Baradin Fox. Bring a tank with you to help gather them all up. I did this and was able to get 265 savage leather in under an hour. While doing this you can also kill the Darkwood Hatchling Critter in the area to help with the guild achievements Critter Kill Squad (which unlocks the Armadillo Pup companion) and Crittergeddon.

Camo from there to the snakes make sure you hug the wall past the 2 Gurubashi Bloodrager's once your at the snakes send your pet in to gather them into a neat pile then just spam multi while kiting them down the path to the boss that drops a maelstrom crystal.Try not to get to close so they dont spit poison on you and they should die before you hit the entrance to the crystal boss

The suggestions here were very helpful and I like to add some myself.
When farming for leather it would be, from my perspective more polite to individually /whisper a polite request to anyone that might be killing a leather-bearing mob to fully loot them so you can skin them. This would be better than a zone wide request as it can open up rude and crude remarks. If they don't replay simply move on and don't engage in a zone wide rude discussion. You be surprised that a individual /whisper will gain positive results. A /whisper macro on target would make this efficient.
I agree that Tol Barad is a very good place to farm. However as time has passed the conditions of farming there has changed. This is from the perspective of my server. When we gain control of Tol Barad there used to be quite a few players flocking to do the dailies there. Nowadays there may be a couple or three who bother on any given day of the week to do them thusly the crocolisk farming isn't quite as lucrative as it once was. The same applies to the spiders as few bother to the dailies there as well. There used to be a constant stream of players doing the dailies in either place and the weekends were the busiest time. But alas when I was doing the spiders on a Sunday the number was never more than 5 in the whole zone not including the opposite faction.
One thing to keep in mind is not to be over zealous in pulling masses of mobs as either spider and the crocolisks are used for the dailies and are needed by the few players who bother to do them. In short don't be piggish. Doing a /who for the zone would you a idea of how many are in the zone and scope out potential competitors for farming.
Fewer players doing the mob dailies means slower farming and which means you actually having to kill more of the mobs yourself.
Also since this zone is now well known there is more competition for the same mobs so one has to keep in mind alternatives.

Ok, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the spiders in the Molten Front. I go there and farm for savage leather, drops 1-4 pieces at a time, i get about 3-4 stacks in about an hour. I know there is competition in this area, but the spiders have a fast spawn rate, so I figured it would be a good spot to farm for it; and they do not drop any savage leather scraps. Just straight up savage leather :D

Savage leather farming the easy way.
Complete the
暮光高地
quests until you get one called
一抹黑
.
Once you have the quest, use the
猎龙者之钩
exactly as the quest suggests. Ignore the warning to "Move to another drake, quickly." Simply finish killing the
黑曜石火翼龙
, fall to the ground with it, loot and skin.
You can then use the
猎龙者之钩
to hook another and repeat the process. You can use
猎龙者之钩
from a flying mount, or the ground. You can also link it to an action bar. It continues to work after the required 8 kills for the quest.
I wouldn't recommend turning in the quest if you want to continue to skin drakes that don't fight back.
Using this method, you won't need potions, etc. and you will probably not have to worry about being assaulted by the opposing faction while you farm. The supply seems never ending and getting the next target is quite fast, as the
猎龙者之钩
have a huge range and pull you directly to the mob.
Enjoy.

Do not stand at the place he needs to respawn or else it will take longer time.

Savage leather 140x (+82) =

A formula that worked for me was:
At Leatherworking 425, I farmed yellow, non-aggro crabs in Vashj'ir. You can find them almost anywhere, but the best place is right near Nespirah where the alliance has clam farmers (lol). Farm these until 450 or so then:
Go to The Pale Roost in Deepholm. I'm a level 82 hunter right now, and killing basilisks and skinning is easy mode.

Molten Front. It may not be the best, but due to the skinnable mobs there being quest related (Scorpions for
热情如火
and Cinderweb Spinners for
火蜘蛛恐惧症
), there's ALWAYS some up, and always some dead ones lying around for easy leather. Too bad 4.3.4 nerfed the respawn rate :(
I was unsure if skinning was affected by the Potion of Treasure Finding, but they DID also drop plenty of Lava Rubies (5g) and Tiny Treasure Chests (~3g50s).

Have to say, the best place I've found is Tol Barad, Darkwood Lurkers, and Darkwood Broodmothers. As an 85 Feral Druid, I go bear form, and pull a mob of 6-8 of them.
Within half an hour, I can usually get 2-3 stacks. Occasionally, the Lurkers drop 2, which is an added little perk. The lurkers are fairly easy to kill, although three or four of the broodmothers at one time can give me a bit of a problem. But it's definitely worth it for the drop rate.

In Mists of Pandaria, you only need to get to LW skill 500 using Cata mats. Starting at 500 LWs can make
Exotic Leather
from 5x
Sha-Touched Leather
. The recipe starts orange and greys out at 535. So looking at the guides, it appears I only need 505 Savage Leather to skill up a Monk Leatherworker, rather than... 1215.

Okay, the best place I have found in the 5.1 patch is through the portal in Mount Hyjal>The Molten Front with the Cinderweb Creepers. For the coordinates to be helpful you either have to go to
烬网爬虫
or be somewhat savy in how to use coords in-game :-)
(I highly recommend a character of at least lvl 85. I did it as lvl 90 and it was a piece of cake.)
If you stay in the area of
61.6, 51.6-63.6, 50.6
and are a ranged character this is the very best place to farm. If you're like me and you have Skinning with your hunter it's super easy. Pretty much how I do it is I pull every spider in an area of about 60yds kill them in about a 15yd circle for easier farming and once they're in that range kill them all as fast as want to then they immediately respawn. You repeat and they respawn immediately again. You will on occasion have to go get a spider that is more like 100yd away but once you kill it the others you were farming will respawn immediately.
I have tried many spots and this is the best and simplest and if you don't think it's the best you're doing something wrong. Either you're in the wrong area and killing the wrong spiders or you aren't getting the spider that resets the others. So if it's not that amazing to you keep trying because this is the best spot hands down. =D

Well I have to admit that
Tol Barad
(The Darkwood) at lvl 90 in MoP works just fine for me.. Killing
黑暗森林潜伏者
and
黑暗森林蛛母
, the place at the moment its a desert, 0 people there, I mean really no one. So as a Feral Druid I just Faerie Swarm to pull like 5 of them (The agro range is descent), and AoE.
The Respawn is pretty good, after you killed the las ones, the first ones are up again. Pretty good. the loot is about 1-3, sometimes even 6 Savage Leather per Spider, so imo is a pretty good place.
Happy Farming.

For those that JUST dinged 80 and can get into Hyjal -
Farm the Charsbringers that exist around the pond below the Grove of Aessina. There are enough to farm completely down the path, fly back up and then farm down the path over and over. If you have done the quests at least that far then they will be phased and you'll have to look elsewhere.
The consistently drop actual leather and bloated stomachs and give skill points + a lot of xp as well.

The far superior place to farm Savage Leather is definitely in The Darkwood in the middle of Tol Barad.
The Darkwood Spiders drop a good amount of leather, has a low respawn timer and are easily pulled in a big pile and slain.
I farmed the
490 Savage Leather
needed to level my Leatherworking in
one hour and thirteen minutes
along with a few Volatiles of varying elements and around 250g in different grey miscs.
My tactic for the farm is to mount up, pull 5-10 spiders (Don't attempt more as range will make them disengage combat and evade), 8 spiders being the common pull. AoE them down and start the loot-fest. Healing and damage shouldn't be a problem for any level 90 as I did this on my 439 ilvl MM hunter.
Peace out.

Retro-farming Savage Leather in a MoP world, I found an old chain quest I never did to be an excellent way of farming Savage Leather...
Serpents and Poison
is an old Cata quest that leads you to Stranglethorn where (phased) endlessly-spawning lvl-83 Serpents are all over the Jungle. Killing them (with one or two blows/shots by a 90) yields Savage Leather... they are easy to kill, fast to respawn, all over the place, drop Savage Leather, and because you're phased, you probably won't be interfered with by anybody else.
Just make sure you never turn-in the
Serpents and Poison
quest itself, or you'll lose the endlessly spawning serpents... so have your LW pick up this quest, and never turn it in, you can always come back to Stranglethorn and get all the Savage Leather you want (there are both Horde and Alliance versions of this quest).
Note: you must also have the quest
Bwemba's Spirit
in your log, or you won't be phased to see the serpents, so you do need BOTH quests in your log to farm Savage Leather.

I've not seen this mentioned, and its not as good as some of the places mentioned here, such as Tol Barad, but with CRZ I wanted to find a place with no competition. Takes about 25 minutes to run Grim Batol on normal mode making one pass with the drakes. The key is to not kill stuff with the drakes, just damage them enough to help with killing them. After one pass most of the mobs can be one shotted at lvl 90, and if you need rep with some cata factions, wearing the tabard still gives rep at lvl 90. Here's my take in one run.
44 savage leather
53 embersilk cloth
1 pristine hide
5 greens to DE
1 blue 333
155 gold in trash and BOP items

In Mists of Pandaria, the
Baradin Crocolisks
in
Tol Barad
and
Darkwood Lurkers
and
Darkwood Broodmothers
of the Darkwood in
Tol Barad Peninsula
are probably the best mobs to skin if you just want to farm
Savage Leather
.
The crocs in Tol Barad are neatly packed in a small area, all hostile (easy to gather due to the low level difference, even at level 90) and respawn really fast. They drop 1-3 leathers each (not taking the
Guild bonus
into account). No scraps, some
Strange Bloated Stomachs
. I got four stacks of leather (and 1 bloated stomach) for each round that
Problim
strolled around Baradin Hold.
Note that the battle for Tol Barad can hinder your time farming, but you can generally get enough leather in between the battles within an hour (or two) to get you through your Leatherworking skill-range that uses Savage Leather.
The spiders may yield even more stacks of leather per time interval. They can be farmed even if there's a battle going on in Tol Barad; they respawn really fast; the portal to Orgrimmar and Stormwind (and the Leatherworker
/ Skinning
trainers) are very close; there's a vendor at the Horde and Alliance encampments to sell the trash items and the kind of trash items these spiders drop is very limited, so you won't find your bags clogged with a load of different items. The amount of
Strange Bloated Stomachs
that these spiders drop is very low, so if you're after the Volatiles in addition to the leather, then the crocolisks may be a better choice.
The downsides are the nature of the creatures. They can daze you and quite often cast
Web
, which leaves you rooted. Furthermore, the broodmothers will
poison
you, which reduces your movement speed by 15% for two minutes. Furthermore, they'll cast
poison pools
, which can be quite a nuisance.
If you can dispel the poison and have a root-immunity/dispel mechanism ready, the downsides aren't all that bad. The yield of leather makes more than up for it.
*Edit*: altered the post to include the spiders and removed unnecessary information.
*Edit 2*: added the Alliance to portal and profession trainer sections.

Just got done leveling up my leatherworking and I must say the core hounds that can be found around
Grove of Aessina
after you have done the fire lands portal opening quest chain can be farmed easily and quickly. You can find packs of them ranging from three to four with some pats same size with a quick respawn time I started from the road leading to
Sanctuary of Malorne
to the
Whistling Grove
and by time I got back to restart they had already respawned.
Also there seems to be a greater chance to loot more then one piece of leather from these mobs though the possibility is still there to get only one piece.
Hope this helps someone out.

Tried out the molten front with my lvl 90 moonkin. Found an awesome spot at 62,52 at the spiders. There are 8 spider spawns there and they spawn in sets of 4. And they spawn instantly once the other set of 4 spiders die! So you can have a constant supply of 4 spiders!
Managed to farm 400 savage leather (no other leather drops) in exactly 1 hour. Just hit them with 1 moonfire each and then astral storm/starfall them down in seconds.
There's 1 additional patrol that walks through the area every ~10 pulls or so, but kinda negligible..
Each spider drops 1 savage leather with about a 10% chance for a double drop.
Map of spider spawns + best location to kill in (62,52).

Everything is skinnable, even the fish. (Watch those fish though, be careful on Heroic or they'll totally eat your face. If you have trouble with them, just do as I do and stay by the water's edge so backing out of the water can be your "oh %^&*" button.)
Seriously though, piles and piles of crocodiles. Heaps of snakes. Panthers dotting the pulls of trolls. Flocks of dragonhawks. (Oh and if you're a hunter, tame one because you can't get the yellow skin anywhere else.) Down by the water, a nigh-infinite supply of hydras and fishies. Most of it gives up to 3 pieces of leather each.
Don't believe me? Go in on your hunter or feral druid. Track beasts. Your mouth starts watering then and there or your money back. And all of it is skinnable.

A great place to farm this is in Twilight Highlands, in the Obsidian forest. Killing Obsidian Charscales and Obsidian Viletongues will drop savage leather and blackened dragon scales. Respawn rate is pretty quick. Farmed about 2 1/2 stacks of leather and around 23 scales in 30 minutes. Happy hunting :)

New best place for leathers! Still in tol barad, but the spiders are the place. One big circle in groups of about 4 to 5 spiders. They respawn by the time you make a circle so it is endless farming, and no scraps. Just leather.

I have a personal favorite spot to share for farming savage leather. If you go to Uldum, there is a pool at approximately 58.6, 82.8 with sets of pink crocolisk eggs. Break the eggs, and kill the Young Crocolisks inside - but do not jump to make them fall off of you. When you are out of combat (I was doing this on my WW monk, so two Spinning Crane Kicks killed them all), some may fall off of you and despawn, while others remain attached to you. Loot and skin the ones that stick on. I have found that I'm able to get a stack of leather every 60-90 seconds this way, as the eggs respawn instantly and there are about 8-10 different spawns within roll and serpent kick range.

I found the delta area south of The Lost City of Tol'vir in Uldum to be a great farming spot for these leathers.
I spent about 30 minutes of killing the crocolisks and marsh serpents there (did not bother to kill the wasps as they are not skinnable) and easily got around 11 stacks of leathers, a little over a stack of leather scraps, several stacks of toughened flesh and crocolisk meat, a few greens, +10 bloated stomachs containing elementals plus of course a lot of greys.
Drop rate for the leathers is 100% (or very, very close to that) and respawn rate is very high too, so I defenitely recommend this place. :)

As a modestly geared (512) 90 enhancement shaman, I was looking for a solid grind where I could round up mobs beefy enough to be able to live through my AoE setup (Flame Shock + Lava Lash). I tried several of the areas already mentioned, and while some were quite good in their own right--I especially liked the phased STV with the serpents--nothing really felt effortless. Mobs were either too far apart, couldn't be gathered easily, required the completion of quest chains, died to a single Flame Shock so I couldn't spread it and AoE, or were overfarmed, etc, etc. Zul'Gurub
almost
scratched the itch, but found the mobs most accessible from the entrance (the frenzies and hydras) to drop mainly scales instead of leather.
I didn't think Zul'Aman was worth much more than a shot when I first went in, but came out totally thrilled. ZA's now my go-to for easy leather.
The Mobs:
Amani Bear
- ~2-4 leather each, found in the pulls leading up to the bear boss. To access them, you'll have to down a pull of 3 trolls that will automatically aggro you when you get in range. There are 4 groups of 2 each, for a total of 8 bears per instance. One pull is unavoidable in order to reach the dragonhawk area, but the other three are optional. I would usually get about a stack of leather from these guys alone, and they go down fairly easily.
Amani Dragonhawk
- ~2-6 leather each, found in the scout gauntlet leading up to the dragonhawk boss. These are a little harder to access--in addition to the 3 troll group you have to fight to reach the bears, there's also an unavoidable 4 troll pull and a 2 troll+bear mount pull that will auto-aggro you once you pass by the bear boss. Once they're down, though, all the groups between you and the dragonhawks are easily avoided at level 90 (just make sure to kill the scouts before they sound the alarm). They pull in packs of 4-6, usually along with a single trainer, and there are about 4 groups of them. Super easy to AoE down, and bank to farm--these pulls would net me about 60-70 leather.
Elder Amani Lynx
&
Amani Lynx Cub
- At the entrance to the lynx areas are 2 pulls consisting of 1 Elder Amani Lynx and ~5 Amani Lynx Cub, plus an additional pull of 2 trainers and ~6 Lynx Cubs. Very easy to AoE down. I've found that, strangely, the elder lynx don't drop any leather (though you can still get points for skinning it), while the cubs drop about 1 leather per kill. With some luck and the guild perk, you can get about a stack of leather from these pulls.
Amani Crocolisk
&
Tamed Amani Crocolisk
- Patrolling along the road towards the lynx boss is a single troll accompanied by two tamed crocolisks; dotted along the bank are non-hostile, non-elite crocolisks. In general, I've found it easiest to pull the troll + two crocolisks in the same area as a small group of non-hostile crocolisks, so the AoE will gather up 3 or 4 of them at once. Amani crocolisks are notable in that they're one of the few instance mobs that tether, making it impossible to round up all the ones at the shore's edge, as they'll just deaggro and snap back to position. In general, I don't bother with these, since they don't even drop leather 100% of the time.
Amani Lynx
- Just beyond the troll pat along the lake, you'll get jumped by 3 groups of 5 lynxes each. Easy to AoE down, and will usually drop between 2 and 4 leather per kill. I'd usually get somewhere between 2 and 3 stacks here.
The Numbers
:
A single run takes about 15-20 minutes--I'd go for the bears and dragonhawks first, then backtrack to the lynx area and be finishing up the final lynx pull a few minutes before the sacrifice. Travel time is a consideration; if you don't mind eating the repair bill, it's faster to die to trash rather than backtrack. With the guild perk, I usually walked out of one ZA run with about
135 to 160
savage leather. (Those without the perk will obviously see lower yields.)
Total, that becomes anywhere between
400 to 640 leather per hour
(that's between 20 and 35 stacks!), depending on how fast and how lucky you are, and whether or not you have the guild perk. Because each run takes about 15 minutes at minimum, you'll never reach your instance cap, and can just continually farm ZA as long as you don't kill any of the bosses.
Additionally, you'll get a fair bit of vendor trash, along with the usual greens, and a bit of embersilk from the few humanoids you have to kill. At the end of an hour, I had about 18 greens and 2.5 stacks of embersilk loitering in my bags; your mileage will vary.
The Downside
:
- Getting
to
the trash can be a little annoying, and any mistake made is a timewaster. First you have to ring the gong with Zul'jin to trigger an event with 2 trolls and some trash, and getting to the bear and dragonhawk areas requires killing unavoidable groups who will just auto-aggro you after particular events (such as the bear boss sending the riders after you once you run past him). Every accidental pull you make on top of that wastes even more time, especially around the scout gauntlet if you don't kill the scouts in time. As I mentioned earlier, travel time becomes a factor, since you have to do a lot of backtracking to get to the lynx area from the dragonhawk area without killing the boss, then back to the entrance when you need to reset. If you're into a mindless grind where you're killing/looting/skinning constantly, you'll probably hate ZA.
- I'm not totally sure how viable this is at lower gear levels, depending on the class and spec. I had to make judicious use of my water totems and most of my maelstrom stacks went towards self-healing; if I didn't pay attention, my health would plummet and I'd have to start using my survival cooldowns. Classes without a lot of survivability will definitely have issues at gear levels lower than mine, and even those who can manage it will (obviously) take longer than the 15-20 minutes I described.
- If you're Alliance and don't have access to a yak or mammoth with the vendors, the only way for you to repair/vendor easily is to use the NPC near the lynx area, which requires an additional pull. Horde can easily fly to Tranquilien. It's also a super-long flight for Alliance, with the nearest capital being Ironforge.
- You're going to need some kind of mod that can auto-trash loot. Amani Hex Sticks drop frequently, don't stack, and are mostly useless unless you're out for the achievement and Mojo.
Happy hunting!

Once you hit 80 and have at least 435 skill in leatherworking, you will have the option of going to Mount Hyjal or Vashj'ir. Choose

I've looked at drop rates vs mob numbers while browsing and have come up for some alternative locations to farm. All mobs in the list pretty much have a 100% drop rate, and are in good number.
Greater Rocs
- Feralas
A somewhat lesser known mob. It inhabits a mountain hot spring resort (obviously a WIP) that the goblins have apparently set up since flying has become available in vanilla.
Hyland Elks
and
Hyland Worgs
- Twilight Highlands
Inhabit the general NE corner of the region.
Mangy Hyenas
Though a lot of other mobs in the area. There are a fair number of Hyenas in the area, making them ideal for farming.

Currently levelling a toon in leatherworking and skinning and needed a spot for savage leather. The best one i have found is in the pale roost. There's a bunch of stone drakes flying around 36/17 that drop from the sky with only half their health left, easy to kill and skin and they respawn fast too plus there are basilisks around that aslo drop savage leather.

The best place I have found to farm Savage Leather is in Deepholm at the Pale Roost. You kill Stone Drakes there. The cords are 36, 15. Not only do you get savage leather, 1-4 pieces from one skin, but you also get Blackened Dragonscale. I would say that the drop rate is about 85/15 leather/scale with an occasional Pristine Hide thrown in to liven things up.
If you are still leveling cooking, you will also loot Dragon Flank and bloated stomach, which contains different volatile items, (earth, water, etc.)
The strategy that I have found that works the best is that you pick a central location and let the Opal Stonethrowers knock the Drakes from the sky. They will be dazed and then you can shoot them to draw aggro. Do not loot them right away. Make a pile of bodies. The reason being is that if you are patient, you can draw several drakes to where you are standing and kill them. That way you are not running all over trying to loot and skin bodies that are all spread out. Usually, I can amass 10-15 bodies in 5-10 min. Then I loot and skin them.
Also, if you are a hunter with a pet, make sure that it is on defensive, that way it won't go running off to get aggro. This strategy will work if you are at level or higher. Though, you can also switch between defensive and assist. I would suggest that you do this if you are at level. This way your pet will draw aggro and you should not take too much damage. But, make sure the drake you are shooting at is close to your chosen spot before you switch your pet to assist.
I seem to get at least 1-2 green items, 1-2 bloated stomachs, 2-3 dragon flanks and several grey items per batch. In an average hour of farming, I can get 4-6 stacks of leather and 1-2 stacks of scales and numerous grey items that you can sell. And as a little bonus you get money when you loot them, on average 8-12G per 10-15 kills.
I hope that someone will find this helpful.
Happy Farming

As of patch 6.0 Zul Aman has been scaled back and even for a LFR geared Hunter the mobs are a joke. Clear each area and don't kill the bosses and you can go out and reset it to keep killing trash. Don't worry if the bosses sac the prisoners because you can just wait on a soft reset for trash to completely respawn. As an added bonus you can also get the Mojo pet to sell and other stuff if you use a potion of treasure finding.

火焰之地
is great.
火焰毒蝎
and
火焰幼龟
, particularly. (Edit: The turtles may not be worth the time for melee classes, since they will knock you back, and the whole point is speed. Thank you, Rokujuukyuu, for making this excellent point.)
Nothing over 10N is necessary. Mount up, pull everything, AoE, and skin away. The
上古熔火恶犬
will sometimes yield core leather instead of savage, but all of the scorpions and turtles yield savage. Less than five minutes will yield 60-80 leather with the turtles, 50-60 from just the scorpions.
(If you get to your instance/hour cap, there are pools outside the Spire from which you can fish up
动燃火焰
while you wait. It still sells very well on my server, and can also be used in leveling professions through Cata.)

Where to Farm Savage Leather and Savage Leather Scraps

Used to go to the swamp in the PvP section of Tol Barad for Savage Leather back in the day because crocs there regularly dropped more than one leather per skin. This has now been nurfed down to just 1 leather/skin, I don't really understand why as the mobs were more generous all through Cata and Panda expansions, maybe in warlords too I don't recall if I ever went back for leather during those two painful years. :D
These days, the only reason you need savage leather is to make transmogs, and why make that even more painful than it has to be? *shrug*
It's still an OK place to farm. Absolutely dead, on my realm at least, crocs respawn as fast as you kill them, and as a Marksman Hunter with Bear Tartare food buff I can zoom between kills at high speed.

500
Savage Leather
per hour! At high levels (I'm 120 with max skinning), I found the best place to farm
Savage Leather
to be the
Firelands
instance. It's fast, efficient, and there's no competition. When you enter the instance, kill and skin all of the scorpions, turtles and core hounds on the central plain. Then exit, reset and go again. If you kill too much and spawn
Shannox
, DON'T KILL HIM or you risk not allowing the trash to reset. After ten runs in Heroic 25, the average yield per run was:
30
Savage Leather
100
Savage Leather Scraps
2
Core Leather
You'll also get 1-4 Bloated Stomachs for a few volatiles too. This equates to about 50
Savage Leather
per run and each run averaged 6:02, for a total yield of about 500
Savage Leather
per hour. I haven't found a spot with a better yield. The run time also conveniently puts you just under the 10 instances per hour limit. You can ignore the two Core Hounds on the left if you want to save about a minute, but you'll just run up against the instance per hour limit so I didn't see the need.

I found a great place to farm Savage Leather and Deepsea Scale to be inside of the Zul'Gurub instance. I swam around the water of the instance and the Shredtooth Frenzy, Lost Offspring of Ghaz'ranka, and crocs on the shore all drop a good amount. If you don't kill any bosses you can go out and reset the trash. No competition and lots of greens dropping as well.

It appears as of 9.1.5, regardless of your skill level, you get between 1-2 Savage Leather per skin.

As of June 2022, the best place I found to farm savage leather is Zul'Gurub in Northern Stranglethorn. Just jump in the water, the water circles the entire center of the instance, and kill all the Shredtooth Frenzy fish, the Lost Offspring of Gahz' ranka and the Zulian Gnasher (crocs). It takes a little time but is so worth it. I skinned 150 savage leather and about 65 Deepsea Scale in about 15 -20 minutes. There is a few cobras on land as well, but you can skip them if you just want to stick to the water. You get a drop rate of 2x or 3x savage leather. Firelands is pretty good too, about 60 savage leatrher in a bout 8-10 minutes if you just kill the scorpions , turtles and hounds near the front. Remember, don't kill any bosses, run out and reset the instance, rinse and repeat! Happy farming ,hope this helps!

脊鳞蜥蜴女王
level 35 tameable crocolisk. Instant respawn. My lvl 63 worgen warrior picked up 1 to 2 Savage Leather every 5 seconds (which works out to about 20 to 40 leathers per minute) with the Worgen racial for skinning. She also drops Strange Bloated Stomach
肿胀的怪胃囊
which contains volatile earth, volatile water, and volatile earth.
