id really like to see more dps caster trinkets that are not hit, im so far over the hit cap its silly.

This trinket will be more useful with tier 10 then it is with peoples current gear, since there isn't as much hit on the new tier 10 gear. Right now hit-items isn't valued very high, because people strugle to stay somewhere near the cap, and don't wanna go to high above it. Most sets of Tier 10 gear come with 2 hit-items where Tier 9 gear had 3 items. This will have a positiv effect on the value of hit-items, and I can imagine gear-setups where this trinket could come in handy. It all depends on what it replaces and what options the player have to balance his gear.

But I doubt it will be in any BiS setups. Your are loosing too much dps pr. hit rating gained compared to BiS trinkets, and it will be more benefitial to get the needed hit from other sources.

That much hit could actually be a good thing if you have a hard time getting high spell power/haste/crit gear without sacrificing hit.

I actually rather like the idea of having *ludicrous* amounts of hit on vendor trinkets, because it accomplishes several things.

Makes it much easier to become hit-capped for newly-minted 80's.
Gives you an easily accessible fall-back in case you loose some hit via a drop in IC.
Amazing for DPS offspecs. Every once in a while, I like to DPS on my Disc. Priest (Shadow DS). Having a vendor-trinket saves me from rolling against an actual DPS'er in IC, plus combining it with this (EoTs) and this (H-ToC5) would get you hit-capped (as a spriest) in no-time. Very handy if you want a change of scenery.

I mean, all of the DPS casters who want somthing better *can* just go into IC and roll like everyone else, but giving players easy access to insane amounts of Hit on vendor items is a good thing IMO.

This is yet another really crappy caster trinket. The number of people at ICC raiding level who are going to need or even want this trinket is really really low. Currently 10 man raiding guilds get the complete shaft in the form of trinkets and this is defintly no exception. while the 5 man one is actually an upgrade to eye of the broodmother, it's still worst than illustration of the dragon soul which was obtainable over a year ago. plus at this level of gearing the on use is garbage.

while you can replace your current trinkets with the 10 man one and the heroic one they are barely better than an IotDS and abyssal rune combo. Which is pathetic because those 2 trinkets are a full 70 total item levels higher and barely better.

This trinket doesnt help matters. except maybe elemental shaman who basically have zero choice but to go with their tiered sets for gear unless their guild reaaaaaaly likes them and lets them get cloth or non spirit leather. and even then picking up hit on rings, neckpieces, and weapons can help them get their anyways.

Then theres the on use portion. which really only helps mages who can use it in conjuction with icy veins and arcane power type abilities. boomkins, elemental shamans, warlocks, priests. none of them have anything comparable to icy veins or arcane power to use a trinket in conjunction with. and arcane mages are the spec that needs hit the absolute least.

a 25 man raiding alliance arcane mage needs 184 hit. 140 or so comes from the 4 piece set bonus alone. heck this trinket would almost negate misses by itself. which would be cool for an arcane mage who gets every single drop thats straight sta/int/SP/crit/haste with nothing else on it. but thats very hard to accomplish.

I'm just curious who this trinket is actually supposed to be for. I can see no class that actually benefits from using this trinket. The on use averages out to be 119 SP over the course of a fight if used on CD. abyssal rune (64 item levels lower) is about 118 SP taken from the high chance to proc and you get it every 50 or so seconds. (i think average is 51 seconds)

So basically its 152 hit vs 84 haste. Thats what the difference between an iLvL 200 trinket farmable from a normal mode 5 man instance and an emblem of frost obtained iLvL 264 trinket is.. I mean wow......

As a casual frost mage looking for upgrades from the ICC 5-mans, this is just what I was looking for.

368 - amount of hit rating needed for 100% hit against level 83 opponents

79 - amount of hit rating needed for 100% hit against anything else

140 - Engraved Gargoyle Femur + Soulsplinter
152 - This Trinket
= 292
+79
= 371

Now to get my hit rating on the rest of my gear *down* to 79!

While you might not agree with me, this is actually pretty good trinket for PvP (frost) mage.
If you are die-hard PvPer, who has no access to better PvE gear, this allows you to get soft hit cap for PvP (4%) in one single item - and that in turn allows you to get more haste off-pieces (and haste rating is very good stat for PvP frost mage).

You can also argue, that this item has more than 4% hit (5.79% at 80), but hard hit-cap for PvP is 10%.

Note: chance to be missed comes from:

4% base chance to be missed
Racials, for mages are relevant:
dwarves' Frost Resistance: reduces chance to be hit by Frost spell by 2%
blood elves' Magic Resistance: reduces chance to be hit by any spell by 2%
gnomes' Arcane Resistance: reduces chance to be hit by Arcane spell by 2%

Talents:

paladin's Divine Purpose: reduces chance to be hit by any spell by 4%
rogue's Heightened Senses: reduces chance to be hit by any spell by 4%
warrior's Improved Spell Reflection: reduces chance to be hit by any spell by 4%

I see there are a lot of comments on this item but I think its very unuseful(sp) at least for an arcane mage. The hit cap for an arc mage assuming you get the 6% from talents means you need 281 hit which is incredibly easy to get right now. With icewalker, which is the standard boot chant that leaves about 269 hit left to obtain. I will be surprised if anyone uses this seeing as most peopel will not need the hit or are probably going to spend emblems of frost on other items.

Splendid item for an arcane mage going fire from time to time. Arcane has +6% hit from talents, fire 0. So you respec, and instead of having to puzzle your items together to get the missing hit, just swap one of your trinkets with this one.

Given that you just swap around gear because of hit and - typically - get haste on other slots instead of hit, this trinket would still be just as good as the 245 Reign o.t. Unliving. Better than Muradins and better than any previous trinket. Abyssal Rune is nohere near this. This + Ashen Verdict Ring + T10 gloves or legs means hit cap for a shadowpriest. Gloves for dreanei, legs for others. If a better Trinket drops, you can still change your gear.
This may not be the best Trinket around, but until you are lucky to get a better it's great. No one will ask for emblems of frost in a few weeks.

Actually a decent caster PvP trinket. With this you'd be mostly set on the PvP hit cap, and 700 SP on demand is nothing to scoff at.

At first I bawked at the idea of this from a PvE arcane standpoint, but now I'm starting to think it would make for a very good fire PvE and frost PvP trinket.

I still say there are better things to buy with frost when you're starting out but now that ICC has been out over two months I believe most people are starting to wrap up everything they need with frost emblems.

Or it could be a play on the Quick-Quotes Quill from Harry Potter... Unless you knew that and you think that using the reference is itself a jab, but I find that hard to believe. Ultimately the stat allocation on this trinket was a very conscious choice by Blizzard, and IIRC it was stated by a blue poster that part of the intent was to allow, say, a healer who wanted to dps a quick way to reach the hit cap while still using mostly healing gear. Unfortunately, an even better way would be to use the Emblems of Triumph that haven't been spent on gems to get a few pieces of T9, most of which have hit on them anyway and offer set bonuses.

Honestly, I find the negative comments about this trinket to be pretty perplexing. The only fault I can find with it is that it has a small pool for whom it is useful, but for those who do need the hit, this thing is fantastic.

If this trinket were listed as 152 Haste + 716 SP/20s then everyone would be praising it for being OP. But for those who really are short on hit (like myself), then that's exactly what this trinket is since it allows me to replace hit specs on my gear with sp/haste/crit.

As an Elemental Shaman this is almost a perfect fit for me and once I have the extra frost emblems I plan to get it. 152 hit lets me remove all my hit gems and replace them with sp+haste and still be right at my hit cap. Part of this is due to the fact that since I have the crafted pants (Lightning-Infused Leggings), I'm way short on gear that has hit on it.

There's one other fantastic benefit to this - and that is that much of my gear is now very usable for my resto offspec. I can drop a ton of the unneeded hit just by replacing this one trinket with something like Purified Lunar Dust

Edit: Don't blindly downrate this out of the negative mob mentality that seems to be following this trinket around - if you think I'm wrong about why its useful to some, tell us why.

I have been looking since I started playing my warlock again, and I see many many forums and things about Nevermelting Ice Crystal being really good fo Spriests and Aff locks because of the absurd crit on the use that rolls with corruption and SW P. I haven't found anything about this trinket though and would it have the same effect on the dots?

For all of the nay-sayers, this trinket does in fact, almost single handedly close the hit requirements (It's worth 5.8% chance to hit) gap between an Arcane mage's hit requirements, and a Fire TTW mage's. While it may be less useful for other classes, it is invaluable to mages who may not have swappable gear to pickup the hit, but are looking to carry a Fire TTW and an Arcane spec into 3.3.3.

The proc is decent, and as with any other on-use proc, I am sure people are TC'ing incorrectly in that pro casters use CDs in an overlapping fashion. Determining the proc's value is not as easy as taking the stat and averaging it over it's CD time as I've seen so many times before.

I think his comment about a new 80 not being able to afford this was because the only casters who would even want this trinket are fresh 80s. All of the 80 casters who are geared are already swimming in hit anyway, and just roll their eyes at the stupid thing.

Generally, I would agree with a lot of the people posting, however I'm finding myself in need of a huge hit trinket. See, I'm a resto shaman first and foremost, but my dualspec is ele, and isn't anywhere near as geared... So I'm stuck between using level 200 gear over 251 gear until I can pick up this or the conquest version of it.

Using it at every cooldown possible (not likely) makes the on use effect worth 119.33 spellpower. While definately nice on these burn down parts of a boss, if the caster is already hit capped by talents and/or other gear, Purified Lunar Dust despite being a healer trinket will prvoide overall more dps than the quill.

Also, a lot of 232-264 trinkets are much better anyways (if hit capped, which you should without the trinket), you could aim for Muradin's Spyglass, Dislodged Foreign Object and Phylactery of the Nameless Lich, depending on your class, talent build and your haste/crit soft caps.

Shaman have both Elemental Mastery and Bloodlust, both awesome times to have a use activated trinket available for an extra burst. I'm not saying this trinket is awesome or anything, just pointing out the fallacy in your statement.

When the patch for 4.0 hits, and the talents switch to the new system, all of the +hit talents will disappear. As such, this trinket may be more interesting to caster DPS who were relying on their talents to keep them capped for raiding. This trinket may make a decent fix to fill the resulting hit deficit rather than having to pick up a bunch of new gear from raiding to make the adjustment.

Of course, level 80 raiding will only matter for a month or two after 4.0 appears, and maybe not every one will worry much about that. However, after the Cataclysm, the trinket may be interesting for leveling, since the effect of combat ratings will erode quickly between levels 80 and 85. Of course, you may only be interested in about +6% hit to handle mobs 2 levels above you, but that becomes more of an issue later. To maintain 6% hit, you will need
455 hit rating at level 83,
648 hit rating at level 84, and
922 hit rating at level 85.
(Assuming you are not a draenai).
Having your spells more likely to hit would be a comfort for casters like frost mages who benefit snaring or other effects that (of course) rely on spells hitting.

Finally, when you start raiding at level 85, you will need 2152 hit rating for 14% hit (or 1998 for 13% if you are alliance), so it's possible this trinket will be viable for entry level raid gear. Of course it's difficult to speculate on what hit rating will be readily available on gear then (or if the benefit of other stats on other trinkets outweighs the hit rating on this), but this trinket could be a reasonable option to keep in mind. It may be worth it to pick up before Cataclysm if you can spare the justice points.

When hit talents are gone in 4.0 I can see this trinket gaining a little more popularity with Warlocks and Mages specifically (Priests and hybrid caster DPS can get hit from spirit). If you're playing around the hit cap with Boomkins, SPriests and talents this may be a good investment assuming you can't cover it with existing gear.

Quick question for casters that already have this trinket. Can it be reforged? I was thinking about this piece and if the Hit could be reforged to Haste or Mastery until Cata then unforged for extra Hit, I'd be happy with this trinket in place of the Dislodged Foreign Object trinket I never win rolls on.

Else, it could still be useful to get me past the Hit cap and then let me reforge more Hit on my gear to Mastery or other stats (haste/crit).

P.S. WTB item fact sheet with marking of whether gear is reforgeable or not. (not all gear is reforgeable)

So, suddenly all the hit talents and debuff have been removed, and this is one sexy beast of a trinket. Plus the relatively huge amount of mastery you can get out of it through reforging, it's win win.

In the new patch, this can be reforged for quite a considerable amount, because of the huge hit rating on it -- so with reforging, a pretty useless trinket with a great use becomes a pretty good trinket, actually, with a great use.

Mine now has 92 hit rating, 60 mastery rating and the usual 716 spellpower use. I'm quite happy with that, since DFO refuses to drop for me! :)
