Drops from Scourgelord Tyrannus. Final boss in Pit of Saron. heroic mode

This is a very lovely sword. Both in looks and Stats.
I, as one of the few DW DK tanks, would love a pair of these as they are slower then the average tank weapon (1.5 - 1.6), have good all round stats, and will allow me the continued use of the
Rune of Swordbreaking
which will also be nice with the Chill of the Throne debuff.
That being said, this is also a very nice paladin and warrior weapon too, though depending on what defensive stats they stack,
Falric's Wrist-Chopper
maybe more preferable (or better yet, get both for both your tanking sets).
Overall, a great tanking weapon for anyone who can use it.
Good Luck in your search.
Edit: I forgot to ask the most important question of all... Do these sheath on your side or your back? cause if they sheath on your back then that would increase the awesome factor by about 100.
Edit2: This does infact sheath on your hip. Shame, but no loss :)
PS: Please dont take this post or this page and turn it into a "OMG DWDK SUCKZ LOL L2P!". This is about the weapon that drops in 5man heroic IIC. If you can tank it, you deserve it. Thank you

i dual wield tank as a frost dk, and i keep threat just fine, idk why a bunch of people say its hard, just use rune strike a lot, and in 3.3 they are increasing rune strike's threat by 17%, and with faster weapons, rune strike will hit faster
so i think blizz is like trying to get dk's to use 1 handers for tanking, especially in the icecrown citadel raid with the whole 20% dodge chance decrease, u may need the xtra defense for the dodge and parry

I'm truly looking forward to getting two of these bad boys as well. The slower speed and truly awesome look of them should put them on any DW Tank's wish list. That and the stats are pretty darn good too.
*edit*
Well I gotta admit wasn't expecting to be down rated... I suppose it's due to the new thought that DK's should tank DW with DPS weapons. I personally can say that from DW tanking currently with two of these that I have had no threat issues. Stats are, as I've said, quite nice. The only current upgrade that I've seen so far for them have been in ICC 10 off of Marrowgar. The idea that DPS weapons are the only way for a DW tank to maintain threat is ridiculous. Get two of these, spec right, and you won't be disappointed.

If anyone's interested here is a comparison between Rimefang and Ardent guard, the 1h tanking weapon from ToC10. As a DW Frost tank, Rimefang get's my vote.

The model is actually old, its just a new re-color, if you dont belive me you can check the sword hanging over the vendor as you enter the Weapon shop between the tunnel, and Eventide Center piece. the shop called "The Arsenal Absolute" i was hoping for a looong time blizzard would let this cool looking sword drop, and here it is! :)

Very nice sword, and probably even better than the i232 ardent guard as a pally. The only reason i would take the guard is because the armor would end up giving it more EH, and with dodge's reduced value, depending on where you sit you won't benefit a lot from the 31 dodge. In the end i took the Wrist-Chopper, but if you cant get that, definitely take this.
Edit. i232 Ardent Guard, not i245

YJMark: What do you mean by "dodge's reduced value"? Dodge has not reduced in value at all.

Now I may be wrong, but for people like me, who don't raid, this is probably the best tanking sword they can get. I chose to get the sword over the axe from Halls of Reflection because of the Human racial which increases expertise when wielding swords.
I don't have much to say about the sword itself, but as an earlier commenter pointed out, the natural glow of this weapon stacks with enchant weapons! This makes it all the more cooler :) Upgrading from Trial of the Champion's Peacekeeper Blade, I was very happy with how beautiful, and awesome the sword is.

I don't know why Death Knights allways go with dual Rimefang. Everytime i see one of those (90% of them are called "__ the Patient") i just /facepalm them.
Srsly, all you frost DKs. Blizzard added the
tanking rune for 1handers
for a reason. And that reason was simple: Fast tanking weapons sucked for DWing Death Knights.
Grab two slow weapons, add the rune and watch the threat-difference. Leave Rimefang for Warriors and Paladins, just don't use it.

This is a cool blade I'm going to dual wield it for dps I don't care if anyone starts telling me that this is best for tanks. This one has a ton of strength for a one hander and that's what a dk cares about. Str gives you your dps and ur parry if you are killing mobs on your own for dailies that don't require groups. Who said that 80s should have to group all the time

You, sir, know nothing of the mechanics of the DK class when it comes to dual wielding. If you are correctly specced, our major damage attacks hit with both of our weapons. This means that we should be using 2 slow, hard hitting weapons in both slots in order to use our skills effectively. If you're running Heroic PoS, then Heroic HoR drops
Black Icicle
which is VASTLY superior than this weapon for DPS. Please, let a tank get this weapon. It's one of their better choices outside of raids.

This is my first post, I just created this account.
I did so to clear up with one general misconception - that DW-Tanking with 2 fast (tank) weapons is not viable.
It might be a bit offtopic (and will be a freakin' wall of text, for sure), but I hope that my post will enlighten some of you.
The major Argument against fast-tanking is: "You will screw your Strike-Dmg by 50% wtf!"
That is just a plain misinformation.
What most people don't take into account is the fact, that all strikes are subject to normalization. That means, that the WEAPON-dmg-portion of the strike will be as usual (say a 100dps 2.0 weapon will have 200 dmg Weapon-portion, a 100dps 1.5 will have 150... and so on and so forth)
The AP-portion on the other hand is normalizied for strikes. That means, that a strike will always gain as much dmg from AP as if the weapon had a 2.4 speed (2.4 is the normalization-factor for 1h-weapons) The AP-portion makes no difference between fast and slow weapons.
And the AP-portion contributes to more than 50% of the Strikes final dmg.
Let me calculate an example for you.
I want to show how much dmg a tanking weapon will pull off when compared to a slow Dps-weapon, so I won't take talents like Black Ice, Tundra Stalker or such things into account, as they add a percentage-dmg-bonus, that won't affect my findings (Which will read like "A (dmg with tanking weapon) is x% the dmg of B (dmg with Dps-weapon)
Style: Obliterate (with 2 Diseases on target)
compared weapons: Rimefang's Claw and Nighttime (as they are both rather easy to obtain and the same i-lvl)
Amount of AP: 2700 (my completely unbuffed AP in ~232 gear, so rather low to begin with)
I will just use the tooltip-information(100%weapondmg +584, +25% per disease) and will then calculate the estimated dmg with those 2 Weapons.
Dmg-formula (general)=(150% Weapondmg)+776
=(1.5*Weapon-portion)+(1.5*AP-portion)+776
=(1.5*Weapon-DPS*Weapon-Speed)+(1.5*AP-DPS*2.4)+776
(AP-DPS can be locked up in your Character-information under "Power", 2.4 is the normalization-factor)
With RC this yields the following result; (AP are taken from my unbuffed stats, as mentioned before)
=(1.5*179.1*1.7)+(1.5*194*2.4)+776
=456,705+698,4+776
=1931,105 average Obliterate-Dmg (before multipler talents etc.)
With NT =(1.5*178.8*2.6)+(1.5*194*2.4)+776
=697,32+698,4(does not change due to normalization)+776
=2171,72 average Obliterate-Dmg
Hugh gap looks different, right?
1931,105/2171,72=0,8892...
That means that with the given stats the RC-obliterate will deal ~89% of the dmg the Obliterate with the slow weapon would do. And that is with low AP. the weapon-portion is fixed, the AP-portion can and will grow with raidbuffs.
Now I will just give example results. You can check them with the formula by yourself.
4k AP(reasonable figure I think):
RC-oblit=2261,3
NT-oblit=2501,9
RC-oblit=90,4% of the NT-oblit
4k AP Froststrike would look like this:
RC-FS=759,1
NT-FS=855,4
RC-FS=88,7% of the NT-FS
4k AP is a rather conservative guess, you should be able to attain higher amounts of AP in full raidbuffs. And the gap is diminishing, the more AP you have, the smaller the difference. (as shown above).
So what a conclussion to draw from these calculations?
Fast tank-weapons won't yield you maximum thread. Keeping a pair of slow dps-weapons is highly advisable for when your threat IS lacking.
The threat-gap isn't that huge on the other hand. So in general, you shouldn't find your threat lacking with a tank weapon (and if it is lacking with tank weapongs it is likely that you are screwed, because even dps-weapons will push your threat by less than 10%).
And to all those people out there that are trying to talk down fast-weapon-tanking with the argument mentioned above ("Your are gimping your threat by 50% ftw!"); You are doing one funny thing - failing at wise-arsing.
I hope you enjoyed my little presentation - and apologies for the WTF-wall-of-text, but I do hope this cleared things up a little bit for at least a few players.

Just thought I'd mention that there is a sword with this model only colored orange, with a fiery enchant sitting against the anvil outside the AB portal in the Sunreaver's Sanctuary in Dalaran. I remember seeing it a while back and wondering what sword in-game used that neat looking model.

As a DW DK tank, you should be using weapons like
Nighttime
or
Black Icicle
. Although they lack defensive stats, the allow your
Obliterates
and
Rune Strikes
to hit significantly harder. Assuming self buffed you have 4k AP,
Nerves of Cold Steel
(increases offhand from 50% of main hand to 62.5%) and using the formula (4000/14x2.4) the math breaks down as follows:
Base
Rimefang's Claw
:
Damage Range=213-396
Average Damage=304.5
Swing Time=1.7 sec
DPS=179.1
Damage with 4,000 AP:
Damage Range=899-1,082
Average Damage=990
Dps=582.5
Main Hand Rune Strike hit=1,485.3
Off Hand Rune Strike hit=928.3
Total Rune Strike=2,413.6
Base
Nighttime
:
Damage Range=325-605
Average Damage=465
Swing Time=2.6 sec
DPS=178.8
Damage with 4,000 AP
Damage Range=1,011-1,291
Average Damage=1,151
DPS=442.7
Main Hand Rune Strike hit=1,726.5
Off Hand Rune Strike hit=1,079.1
Total Rune Strike=2,805.6
As you can see, Rune Strike, and indeed all weapon-based abilities would hit
52.9%
16.2%
harder with Nighttime than with Rimefang's Claw, thus generating that much more threat. As for defense,
Rune of the Nerubian Carapace
gives you 13 skill, not rating, almost equal to 64 rating, making it so you can tank with those weapons. Given parry and that using fast weapons makes you get parried 52.9% more often than using slow ones, it makes sense to only use slow ones to avoid the parry-haste effect.
Edit #1:--Added Normalization value (AP/14x2.4)
Edit #2:--Above post is useless now, as tanks no longer DW as Blood as the tanking tree and
Threat of Thassarian
is too deep in frost to access. Not to mention, according to EJ, a DWing tank without ToT only generates 75% as much threat as a tank using a 2-hander.

I think all this talk of dw dks tanks needing dps 1-handers for threat generation is a bit outdated. Really, I'm pretty sure Icy Touch is all you need here, folks. It doesn't care about your weapons and it gives you a whole lot of threat. So why not take two tanking weapons? Sure, your dps is gonna suck, but you'll die much less often and hopefully your raid's dps will be able to get by without the 1-2k more you'd otherwise be doing. Honestly, I think this weapon is a great idea for deathknights, as long as they know their class well enough to know how to take and keep aggro with it.

Ignore This:
Okay, this is gonna sound fail, but has this been removed? I have been farming heroic PoS everyday for the last month and a half (and yes I've been doing Ony and toc). I have yet to see it drop yet. I am seriously tired of carrying people through this who have no idea on how to do the fights and don't know how to ask. I noticed that WoWhead said it was last seen 3.3.0 but I'm hoping that it just hasn't been updated or data mined.
Ignore Over.
Edit: After 55 days, my paladin was able to scrounge one up and is now happy.

hmmm, this sword would be the perfect weapon for my pro pally, considering it is a major upgrade from the nighttime axe, i just got tonight... and yes i know nighttime is not a good tanking weapon for a pro pally but it was an upgrade from tankard o terror...lol
Edit: yesterday i said this would be a good upgrade to my pro pally and as i suspected it is.. just tanked pit of saron and this bad boy dropped.. i've been debating on what enchantment to get for it though, i've heard blade warding was best...any suggestions?

Clearly you haven't bothered doing the maths on Quel'Serrar's proc. For any class that can keep it up cose to 50% of the time (or more), it beats anything of identical ilevel. It's quite possibly the BiS ilevel 232 weapon for protection paladins using SoV.
The proc on the wrath versions Quel'Serrar was defense (avoidance&block). Back in wrath, especially in ICC times, avoidance was ALWAYS inferior to stamina and armor. The wrath versions of Quel'serrar were moderately good for threat and there were better 232 weapons at the time for that. The fact that it was lacking on stamina made that sword horrid.
Not to mention we tanks hate random procs seeing as they are more than likely not going to be up when we need them.
Rimefang's claw had stamina and more reliable tanking stats. It beat out the 232 Quel'Serrar as a tanking weapon.
The one thing the wrath versions of Quel'Serrar have over other wrath weapons is that they, like the original, are probably the best looking 1handed swords in the game.

Personal favorite for mogging as a frost dps, also note that with a little caution you can solo the instance for it as blood-specced, i even did so in roughly 370 dps (rather than tanking) gear, with a 359 2h with no tanking runeforging, so it should be easily doable by most.
Just pull 1 pair at a time in the tunnel (unlike the group tact), and use ice to delay the last boss when enraged (can't handle it head-first).

edit: Ignore my comment, you CAN transmorg one hands to main hands. New item on the agenda. Awesome model for a mage.

There's a red-recolored version of this sword model hanging on the wall behind the Scryer auctionhouse NPC's in Shattrath, which sadly doesn't look to be acquirable in the game. I came here to see if there was a "Same Model As", but alas...
It's baffling why they would make a texture and have the model in the game, and then never implement it.
