The "Holy" version of the priest helm from 10man onyxia. While there are no set bonuses and you COULD use this for a shadow set, it's just better itemized for holy given the spirit socket bonus as well as the +spirit that's already given on the helm.
The Shadow version of this helm has both crit and haste, a spellpower socket bonus, and no spirit (sadly).
The model is exactly the same as the Priest Tier 2.
I, a discipline priest, won this on our guild's first Onyxia 10 kill by virtue of being the only priest in the raid at the time. And to be honest, I'm not terribly excited about it.
Comparing it to the Tier 8.5 item,
Conqueror's Cowl of Sanctification
is easy, and relevant because it's very common. Taking socket bonuses into account (which wowhead's item comparison doesn't do, so pay attention to this), this helm gives 7 stamina, 10 spirit, 2 armor, 8 spellpower, 10 fire resistance, and 10 frost resistance at the cost of 1 critical strike rating and 5 intellect. Looking at stats alone, it's a worthy upgrade. The extra spirit is going to be better for a holy priest than for a discipline priest, though.
But that's ignoring the Tier 8.5 set bonus. Many priests raiding any content, 10-man or 25-man, will be running with two pieces (chest and headpiece) of Tier 8.5 already, because they're easilly obtainable by just farming heroics for Emblems of Conquest. Switching out the Tier 8.5 headpiece for this headpiece might mean losing a set bonus (as it would for my current gear), which I feel simply isn't worth it.
To summarize: It's probably not worth switching a piece of healing Tier 8.5 for this if it means losing a set bonus.
As for the general itemization of this item, it's a better item for a holy priest than a discipline or shadow priest, because of the high amount of spirit. If you're a discipline or shadow priest,
Coronet of Transcendence
, which also drops from 10-man Onyxia's Lair might be a better choice if you're not struggling with mana, and if you could use some extra throughput through haste.
I'm keeping mine around in my bank, though. Some day I might get a chestpiece upgrade (killing the set bonus anyway), and I might find myself a little low on regen, in which case this helm might be worth equipping.
Note, the resistance's don't have "impact" on the item level ;-) They are pure for flavor
The old T2 helmets drop from Nefarian in BWL now.
C'mon people, its Onyxia, Blizz just make it for 80 to celebrate the 5 years of WoW being with us, a little appreciate, and just have a good "old" time!
