These will most likely be the last and highest-level of the WotLK orbs in the series. Used to craft various iLvl 245 BoE items, similar to how Runed Orbs are used to craft iLvl 226 items, however it seems these will be used to craft bracer/chest slot items instead of belt/boot slot items.

Frozen Orbs (3.0) --> Runed Orbs (3.1) --> Crusader Orbs (3.2)

He was probably alluding to the icon, a sort of anvil-ish symbol on a field of white/yellow light. The icons for frozen and runed orbs show the item as obviously spherical, whereas the Crusader orb looks about as orb-ish as a coffee table. Hence: "How in the hell is this an orb?"

In the upcoming patch 3.2.2 Blizzard will make Crusader Orbs purchasable for 15 Emblems of Triumph. They will be on the Emblem of Triumph Quartermasters in Dalaran.

These can also drop in Heroic Trail of the crusader (10 man). We got 1 from Icehowl, and 1 from each twin. Patterns can drop as well.

Currently going for just under 20k gold on Moonrunner.

For the love of god, if prices on your server are like those on mine, SELL THEM. Unless you think that single piece of gear is worth almost/over 100k gold. :V

As with all things their price will wane in time. For now, cash in. ;D

I agree with herrojima. The Crusader's Coliseum is after all more of a Horde-Alliance thing than it is a genuine raid instance, imo. You can't compare it with Ulduar or any other raid instance such as (Lv80) naxx, (Lv70) BT, SWP, KT, etc. And since we still haven't defeated Arthas yet, this is not likely to be the last dropped crafted material we will see.
Just like the Sunmote from SWP there might just be something similar dropped from Arthas's place, if he now is the final boss in WoTLK, a small period of time before Cataclysm is released.

It just doesn't feel like a proper raid instance, since it's all organized by the Silver Covenant (correct me if I'm wrong),
with an audience watching you fight and all.

These are all speculations, so don't take anything for granted.

Now Crusader Orbs purchasable for 15 Emblems of Triumph. They are sold by Emblem of Triumph Quartermasters in Dalaran and Icecrown vendor.

Eight needed for the "Lunar Eclipse Chestguard," iLevel 245 crafted Leatherworking chestpiece. 8 x 15 Triumph emblems = 120 emblems. The i-245 shoulders are only 45 emblems and the head is 75. Pretty steep for an item that requires other mats as well? And this is not even a tier piece. The tier 8.5 chest and head are only 58 emblems of conquest (for reference). Wonder why this is so expensive?

Some thoughts about the impact of upcoming patch 3.3:

1. Emblems of triumph will replace emblems of conquest as the base emblem drop for heroic bosses, etc. http://www.wow.com/2009/10/07/patch-3-3-emblems-of-triumph-to-be-the-new-base-emblems/#comments.

2. Assuming that emblems of triumph will still be used to purchase crusader orbs (anyone on PTR know if there has been any changes?), expect a huge inflation of crusader's orbs to hit your realm within days (due to the number of people with excess conquest emblems and the high-raiders rushing to cash in excess emblems of triumph). This is a BIG assumption.

3. You should already now be seeing prices for these orbs in decline. As more people realize why, expect that decline to accelerate.

4. The smart gold suggests two strategies - a. if you have a collection of orbs for whatever reason, you are going to want to sell them as quickly as possible. Once you see people spamming crusader orbs in trade chat, or what was considered ridiculously low prices in AH, you're too late. Now may be already too late.

5. The crazy gold may seek to buy up crusdaer orbs right before the patch hits, in the hope of making a massive profit if Blizzard surprises everyone and upgrades the cost of these orbs to the highest level raid emblem.

6. Assuming that Blizzard does not make the upgrade emblem change, odds are Icecrown WILL release a final round of craftable items and a final high-level orb. This makes sense as the "Crusader" orbs reference the highest level raid available now. Thus, expect to see craftable items based on crusader's orbs (Merlin's Robe, etc.) plummet in price as well in the future, probably even more then the orbs themselves as the Phat Loot aspect of this gear is lost to even better loot.

7. Conclusion: you would be crazy to pay retail for crusader orbs or craftable items based on said orbs. Best to wait and see how 3.3 impacts the WoW economics.

Thoughts? Anyone got any parallel observations from past patches or how the PTR currently stands?

currently there are (3) three ways to acquire crusader orbs:

1) from raiding -not easy to get-
2) buy them from Auction House -don't expect prices to decline much soon-
3) buy them from vendor for (15) fifteen http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47241 each

it is a fact that when next patch releases 3.3 we will get another orb -probably the last for this expansion- that will be used for better items than ilvl245, however you will need to go raiding.... dont expect Icecrown Citadel will be as easy as toc10/25 for a while... dont expect to pug farm Icecrown Citadel as toc10/25...

p.s.: will be downrated by gold farmers

to afford just one single orb, it takes just over a week of Heroic daily farming for the 15 Emblems of Triumph

With Patch 3.3 this is no longer true.

Using the Dungeon Finder Tool to group for random Lich King heroics (but not the first heroic daily, which gives you 2 Emblems of Frost instead), you only need to do 3 instances to obtain the 15 Emblems of Triumph needed.

6 from the quest rewards, and 9 from at least 3 bosses for each instance.

Given that most cross-realm random groups tend to run through dungeons quite quickly, you would likely spend no more than 2 hours to obtain an Orb; along with the looted coins, materials from disenchanted items, reputation gains, and stonekeepers shards if your faction held Wintergrasp.

In 3.3.3, a Gnome named "Frozo the Renowned" Will come to dalaran on his flying carpet, Camping himself at Dalaran Magus Commerce Exchange, Selling Crusader Orbs for 6 Frozen Orbs each.

These are so easy to acquire, gem prices are higher now. I rarely see these on the AH anymore.

For the epic blacksmith craftables, the Titansteel (which thankfully no longer has a CD) is the most difficult material to obtain at this point. Badges are easy to come by to get the orbs, after all.

I usually see the crafted stuff on AH instead of the mats. No one bothers putting the orbs on the AH anymore because no one buys them and they can inflate BS prices because it's somewhat hard to find these anymore without buying them. The Chest sells for 3k on my realm, and the bracers around 1.5-2kish.

The reputation cost reduction applies to her items. If you are wanting to buy crusader orbs then you can save 25g per orb by having Kirin Tor at exalted . The orbs aren't bound so you can send them to other chars. This is a fairly small saving of course but every little helps, with all the alts running around these days I thought it was worth the reminder.

For anyone wanting to craft the items for transmogrification, these items do still sometimes drop from Normal (1 on my last run) and Heroic Trial of the Crusader.They can also be purchased from Frozo the Renowned outside of the Engineering Shop in Old Dalaran, for 6 Frozen Orbs each. They sometimes still appear on the Auction House, but not in significant quantities (I bought 3 for around 24g each today). Edit: on Heroic, got 1 per boss, total of 5 orbs.
