Seems to have a place holder model "Armageddon's" Model to be exact. Dropped from Iron Council (25) based on
Maybe an upgrade to
Good to see traditional sword-like designs for swords - much better-looking than Armaggeddon.
from a fury war, i wouldnt mind pasing it to a hunter, being that it gives low AP for mele.
Dunno if I'd wanna give up that strength D:
Looks almost exactly like a High-Elven blade, I reckon that Blood Elf Paladins will be all over this on the RP servers.
so, us hunter's get 2 new weapons to play with, what would be better, this or
Lotrafen, Spear of the Damned
obviosly, we'll have to fight for both, as, well, ferals will want the spear, and fury warriors the sword. they are almost as good. 1 more agi on this one compared with the spear and 1 less crit rating on the sword compared to the spear, then there is the stamina, the sword has more stamina, meaning more AP for us hunters so I would say the sword is better over all, but I wouldn't pass either to anyone unless I had one or the other.
This sword has some really nice stats for an Unholy DK using the 17/0/54 spec, the crit is awesome. At first glance it does look like a Hunter priority weapon but no DPS be it melee or hunter should pass up on this bad boy. I do prefer a weapon with strength rather than AP and agil but this is too well itemized to be overlooked. I plan on paying up some DKP for this when it drops.
best mitigation tanking weapon .7-.9% more dodge than inevitable defeat.
Saurfang looted this...
This weapon was the result of his ownage.
Blood Death Knights this sword is better than our beloved Voldrethar, Dark Blade of Oblivion.
I picked one up last night and am currently using it in my MH as fury. It's got Berserking on it, and so far it's working out really well, it's faster than my old mainhand (
) but it has more top end damage and a lot more DPS, so that's not really a problem. (If anything the slightly higher speed helps with rage generation.) I'd had horrible luck on 2h weapon drops (I was offhanding a
Claymore of the Prophet
depending on my other gear options) so this was a massive upgrade all around.
We had discussions among our physical DPS about letting hunters bid on it, and ultimately decided to let the market make the decision - none of them bid on it when it dropped, however, mainly because we've seen lots of the
drops so they were happy to let me take this. It's an excellent hunter weapon but it's probably better off in a melee DPS' hands especially with the paucity of weapons you can use with Titan's Grip in Ulduar (Worldcarver and this sword are the only 2h weapons that can be dual wielded before Yoggy and hard mode bosses). And with
Lotrafen being almost identical to Rune Edge
, Arms warriors have a difficult choice on their hands (coming down to Sword Spec vs Poleaxe Spec). Hunters of course would make good use of either weapon, as would Ret Pallies and DK's.
For a fury warrior this and Worldcarver are basically the best you can do before Yoggy drops
, which is clearly superior to either from a fury perspective.
It should also be pointed out that if you've been losing a lot of crit going from T7 to T8 gear (take a look at warrior T8 to see how crit drops) Rune Edge will pop you right back up again.
Edited to Add: I'm now DWing it, and I think I'm going to sit with them until I get two Volds. Don't see a reason to 'upgrade' before that. I might go for two
if they drop, but I do the ten mans sparingly.
Just got it on my pally really nice weapon. Damage is high, Crit is good, not as much stre or ap on it but Berserking makes up for it. Arp not a stat i go for but with a warrior tank i see it being usefull as well as the boost
Got this last week for my hunter. Nobody else wanted it and I'm tired of the stick weapons that hunters seem to end up with lately. I didn't need the +hit that comes with the staff equivalent so the +ap is very nice.
For Dk tanks this makes a great placeholder until you can get
,voldrethar, being realistic you wont be getting the chance any time soon
, worldcarver, Lot more realistic chance of dropping but random loot is random, gz if you get any of these, there all great weapons
Say what ever you want but taking this with death knight over hunter is bs.. Im dk and i rather be waiting for xt hard mode sword then taking this if even 1 hunter needs it from guild... i think same goes for pallys also but im not sure.
I Got this tonight on my hunter... i spent some dkp on it . Great Stat stick and it hits for a ton. Wow loot calls this a hunter weapon hands down.
Hunter is happy.
This good weapon for Retribution Paladin?
After thinking it over, I have no problems with a hunter rolling on equal footing with a plate melee on this weapon.....
It was a problem with the Betrayer because Betrayer was the clear BIS weapon for Plate Dps at that level of content. This is not the case with Rune Edge.
Renamed from Rune Edge to Stormrune Edge in 3.2. This change obviously happened due to a Rune Edge already existing as a level 52 Uncommon One-Handed Axe created from Blacksmithing.
I think that is the best sword for Retrebution paladin!
An paladin that is on Retrebution needs those stats.
3.Critical strike rating (you need that for vengeance)
That weapon have them!
Also it haves extra good damage!
With my paladin i do 3-4k on hit!
Ok! Have fun :P
Check your shield swap macros if you have them, they changed the name of the sword.
3.2 Changed name from Runed Edge to Stormruned Edge
Ok i know this point has been driven into the ground because people always QQ about the subject, but if im on my warrior im not gona roll for the BiS ranged weapon for me if ANY hunter needs it. It would be an upgrade in my stat slot for me, but as a warrior im not gona be sitting back and shooting a gun at any raid boss ever. Im gona be up there swinging the sword that 99 million +1 huntards whine that they dont get to roll for because its the BiS for their secondary weapon. The reason that I as a warrior would get a melee weapon first is because my skills and entire class concept is geared around hitting things with a melee weapon to the greatest effect for the same reason that hunters as a ranged class arent up atacking a boss from pointblank range. As a raid leader i would definatly give this to a hunter due to the fact that it is a very nice stat piece, but only if there were no melee in my raid that needed it more. When i give out loot i try to maximize the effectiveness of the raid so that close clear we had this week is an easier clear next week. Which in turn means that in a few weeks you hunters WILL be getting this for your stat slot since we can progress more, get more loot, and get our melee dps comparable melee weapons.
*The reason that melee dps like DKs and warriors will roll on weapons like this is weapon dps is the #1 dps increasing stat for them. On my warrior this weapon would be a signifigant upgrade over
due solely to the fact of the weapon dps. While there actually are more points itemized towards dps on weapons with agi and ap, than straight str, the biggest factor in getting an item like this is the weapon's hit strength. Could go on explaining about weapon speed on top of that, but the main thing is that this would still be a dps increase of of any str weapon for a 2h using melee class with lower weapon dps.
Below is the chart for a blood dk's stat weights showing how superior a weapon dps increase is to any other stat
Attack Power 1
Weapon DPS 9.89
Armor Penetration 2.75
Hit Rating (to cap) 2.51
Expertise Rating 2.47
Crit Rating 1.56
Haste Rating 1.5
Hit Rating (to spell hit cap) .52
I thought it was called rune edge, did they rename it because of the nubby rune edge axe?
Just had a DK tank bid max dkp vs ret paladin, and hunters. When I questioned them I was told "dont question my decisions for my gear." So I am asking.. am I a bastard for being glad a hunter got it and questioning said DK's decision?
Technically speaking, this weapon IS itemized for a Hunter. Has Agility but no Strength = not itemized for plate-wearers.
However, the design intent and the actual outcome are two totally separate things unforunately, leading to the melee vs. Hunter debates...
Downrate me if you please. Weapons with Agility but no Strength are not intended for plate-wearers.
I Just had a BM hunter in my guild win it over me(fury warrior).Luckily we had kaliban loot list so I got it from him(ty bliz for giving 2 hrs to trade stuff).Listen Hunters This weapon is excellent for you but it wont inscrease your dps as much as for a warrior/dk/ret pally. You can get the staff from XT which cant be used dk's and pally's and the speed is stupid for a warrior.Just like your dps increases when you get a better ranged weapon so does this for a melee class.
Its unfortunate for any huntard to get this over a DK tank or any dps plate wearer for that matter. Its already been explained that a melee weapon is a secondary weapon for hunters compared to the primary for the plate wearers. In regards to Dk tanking Almost all agility/ap 2 handers give a greater amout of avoidance at the cost of putting out less threat to higher dmging Strength/parry 2 handers. A good Example of weapons to compare for tanking are Marrowstrike Vs Edge of Ruin. The only way I'd take Edge over Marrow is if I am an Orc who gets the 5 to expertise from the axe specialization. Good Dks know how to put out significant amounts of threat and so that shouldnt be an issue unless they are under geared, some dumb toon starts to attack before threat is established or the dps doesnt spec into their threat reducing talents that will never be an issue.
An added plus for the AP 2 handers is that they give 2 armor for every 1 agility. Stormrune gives an additional 242 armor (thats better than the cloak enchant & the arm gained from agility may scale w/ the 60%arm buff from frost pres(unsure on that)) which adds small amount of dmg reduction for the tanks...something that is very minimal but adds up to a lot in the end for the DKs. The way I look at it is that anything that adds to your dmg reduction or increases your healing (improved blood pres or prot pally talent) is giving you more overall HP for the fight. HP is the number 1 thing looked at when comparing tanks in a raid (which is unfortuanate b/c sometimes the better geared tank doesnt have higher hp).
The only thing I would say to look out for is the 2 handers is fast attack speeds(anything below 3.4=fast) & haste rating.
This sword goes perfect with the Tier 6 Paladin set.
awesome weapon model
Can anyone confirm the boss kill order to get this sword to drop?
Wowhead says it drops on 25 man normal mode, but the sword has been overwhelming looted from Steelbreaker. If memory serves, killing Steelbreaker last was hardmode at the time.
Aesthetically, this was the biggest disappointment for me that came with patch 3.1
I was expecting sth. really awesome when i first saw the icon, but then all i got is something really disappointing.
MAN, this sword was made for my GLORIOUS SET woot woot ^_^
best transmog for the LightBringer armor set!
why is this listed for DH loot? My DH in beta is unable to mog a 2H....
With the Legion 7.0 patch this sword and those which share its model have gained a new shimmering light effect which flows along the blade from the hilt upwards.
So do you have to initiate hard mode for this thing, or do you have to NOT do hard mode? I've been farming Ulduar for weeks, I've tried killing these guys in various orders, and I have yet to see this thing drop no matter what I do.
Does anyone know how you get it to 25 man mode now that flex is a thing? I have it set to 25 man but it's always defaulting to 10 and won't let me change it.
I was killing Steelbreaker ('hard mode') last for years and never saw it drop. Tougher now that it drops 2-3 items per boss. Tonight I decided to kill him first and leave the little guy for last (normal mode) and it drops. zzz
