It seems to be in preparation for a Thanksgiving-style holiday. It was added along with Cranberries, Whole Turkey, Cornmeal, Autumnal Herbs, and Honey as reagents to make a few Thanksgiving-themed dishes. So far there's been no holiday testing on the PTR, but given the Thanksgiving season is 4-5 months off (for Canada/U.S. anyway), it's likely we'll find out about it soon. That is if they do implement it.

Just thought I'd mention that the comment that suggests where the location is to find the vendor that sells Teldrassil Sweet Potato is out-of-date.

You can now find it located here.

This is a reagent for Candied Sweet Potatoes and can only be bought in Darnassus.

As of the burning of Teldrassil, you need to speak to Zidormi in darkshore to be able to get to Teldrassil

So, shadowlands is here and darnassus is no more right? Go to 48.87,24.47 to talk to Zidormi and have her show what it used to look like before it was destroyed. Then you can buy your fancy potatoes.
