This one sounds really good but i can't decide if having the glyph of molten armor for 2% crit for all spells.. seems like i'd have a better chance for hot streak to proc while stacking scortch's I wonder if the 2% damage on the frostfire would be better.

I'm kind of torn between this and Improved Scorch. While this increases damage by 2% and crit by 2%, I save some 6 seconds casting Scorch 5 times, when I could be casting it once, gain 5% crit, and start spamming Frostfire bolt. I could do the math, or I could ask a more experienced mage on their thoughts. I'd be using Glyph of Living Bomb, Glyph of Molten Armor, and either this or Imp. Scorch.

I also wonder, with the coming of Cataclysm, if they're either going to change the name of this glyph, or change the effect.
In Cataclysm, mages will get the 'Flame Orb' spell, like the one used in Old Kingdom by the Prince in that area. Just an orb that flies some distance and deals damage per second to enemies within range. There is a talent displayed here:
http://www.wowtal.com/#k=.9mn.mage
in the Frost tree:
Frostfire Orb
0/3
Converts your Flame Orb into a Frostfire Orb and increases your Frostfire damage by 10%.
This means there is at least one extra Frostfire spell besides Frostfire Bolt coming up... Potential!
Edit: See this page aswell:

Increases the damage done by you Frostfire Bolt...
Was this tooltip written by a Troll? Oh well...I always wanted da damage done by me Frostfire Bolt increased, mon!
This is also the only tooltip that says
...the victim's...
as opposed to "the enemy", "the target", or "the enemy target".

It seems that the logic will be that Frostfire Bolt has two uses:
As a proc-spell for Frost, as a result of the
Brain Freeze
talent.
As a replacement for Fireball for Fire, as a result of having abnormally high
Flashburn
-Mastery compared to your other stats. Or in other words if you load your gear up (via gems and reforging) on Mastery you'll reach an (apparently valid) point where FFB beats Fireball for Fire. However as of lvl80 this point is unreachable, so this is all theory for lvl85 so far.

I'd just like to point out as of 4.0.1, frost mages have lost an effective way of keeping rogues from vanishing w/o popping their CoS, having lost the DoT from both FFB and FB. This could be worth considering....

If I use this, will Frostfire Bolt no longer trigger Fingers of Frost?

As in 2010 Dec 29, ver 4.0.3 - 13329 this glyph is very .........useless
It does not work with
flashburn
mastery
The damage it increases is actually very low, 9% over 12sec (4 ticks) = 2.25% (of frostire bolt damage) every 3 second.
Since
hotsteak
can be proc from continues crit, why not get the +5% crit from glyph of
pyroblast
or
fireball
to shoot more free pyroblast!

Agreed, with a 6k Frostfire Bolt and 3 stacks applied this ticks for 184 every 3s, with the possibility to crit and ignite my target for 40% of that... woooohooooo!
I'm sticking with Fireball and glyph of Fireball, glyph of Pyroblast and Glyph of Molten Armor. I gotta figure +5% crit on main abilities and 2% more crit on everything is better than 3% more damage on Living Bomb; though I might be wrong.
It's a smart idea, though Blizz should seriously consider keeping the dot on Frostfire Bolt and making it close to irrelevant, then buffing it to a significant point with this glyph (perhaps increasing its damage and allowing it to stack), and keeping the movement reduction as is (no movement reduction when glyphed) to prevent Frost pvp'ers from using and abusing it. I just hope it will be a worthwhile glyph to use and make the fire rotation, which is already the most enjoyable one, a bit more interesting: 3 frostfires, fireball untill dot gets close to running out, etcetcetc.

Assuming you are crit capped without molten armor as a frost mage(which you only need 13.33(3~)% to obtain in a raid setting with rogue and imp scorch/shadowbolt, so 10.33% from gear), this glyph becomes immensely powerful in the ignite frost raiding spec. considering that FrostFirebolt will be hitting 15% harder and has a stacking dot(up to 3 stacks for a total of 9% further increased damage), and all the % damage multipliers and additives... you could see a tremendous dps increase with this glyph(since the slow won't be as useful in a raid setting), for pvp however do not take this glyph as frost.

Good to know.
I have something to add for fire specs as well.
The calculation to know whether to chose this Glyph over the Glyph of Fireball is very straightforward.
When glyphed, frostfire does about as much damage as fireball. Now, with 3 stacks you get +9% dps over 12s + whatever bonus damage your mastery grants.
When glyphed, fireball crits 5% more, so, ignoring pyroblast procs, if you get your mastery up to a point where +9% damage over 12s will outdo +5% damage every 2s (or however long your fireball takes to cast), then the glyph of frostfire bolt is worth it.
Short answer? It will never be worth it as it is.

Can "Impact" (Fire Spec Talent) transfer this DoT to other enemies within the area?

Question: if I were using this glyph and my spell power had gone up or down since my last Frostfire Bolt (e.g. due to
火山药水
wearing off), would my next bolt retroactively change the spell power of the existing dot stacks?
If they could track damage parameters separately for different copies of the same dot from the same caster on the same target, I'd think ignite munching would be easy to fix -- just have each triggering spell add a separate copy.

Its nearly worthless as a PvE fire mage. The DoT is very poor, compared to the probably of fireball ignite (using the +5% crit chance from the fireball glyph).
I readed that the problem with this glyph, was that the DoT crits produced Ignites, increasing the Ignite munching problems. They fixed this, but even with that the theorical increase in dps is just that, theorical.

While I did wanted to see a proper glyph for the spell I didn't think it would be this bad. Don't get me wrong, the 15% increase in damage is great. While the glyph gives you the dot component back, I think it was a poor decision to make the player choose between either one or the other. The combination of snare
AND
dot was the most appealing thing I found in Frostfire Bolt when they first introduced it. Rogue fight. With this glyph you can now occasionally throw out a Frostfire Bolt with a wimpy dot at a boss. Not because it's awesome at doing damage, but because Fireball fails at decent damage in a Frost build.
Just my two cents.

Would the dot from a glyphed frostfire bolt also be combined with the rest of your dots when using combustion?

DoTs, Buff and Debuffs
Since 4.0 the basic rules for DoT behavior has changed. When a DoT is applied, the following rules are applied:
All player stats are "snapshotted," including all bonuses received through buffs and procs, and any losses to stats from debuffs. This means that the DoT will not benefit from any procs unless it is recast.
The DoTs damage will update with boss debuffs on a per tick basis. For example, if a DoT was applied to a boss before the 8% Spell Damage debuff was applied, and the 8% Spell Damage debuff was applied between the 2nd and 3rd tick, the 3rd tick will begin to benefit from the debuff immediately.
The only known case where the above is not true is with the 5% Crit Debuff (Shadow and Flame/Critical Mass). This debuff follows similar rules to that of player buffs.
As a general rule of thumb it is not recommended you recast a DoT early (i.e. clipping, with the exception of the information provided in the 'DoT Refreshing' section of this thread), even when you have additional procs that weren't present on the original cast. What this will effectively do is lower that DoTs overall DPET for that encounter despite the additional damage done due to the proc.
DoT Refreshing
Another change made to DoTs in 4.0 is how DoTs behave when being reapplied or refreshed. Basically if a DoT is refreshed between the 2nd last and last tick, the DoTs duration will be extended to include the last tick. For example:
Unstable Affliction (uneffected by haste) has a 15 second duration, dealing damage every 3 seconds (5 ticks). If you refresh Unstable Affliction at 13 seconds (2 seconds till the last tick) the new Unstable Affliction applied to the target will have a duration of 20 seconds and will tick 6 times.
What this means is that you can 'clip' a DoT without losing the last tick of that DoT (and the damage that last tick provides), making it much easier to have a 100% uptime on all DoTs. One thing to note is that if a DoT is refreshed using this method then the last tick inherits the stats of the new DoT (See 'DoTs, Buffs and Debuffs').

In Mists of Pandaria this glyph has changed.
OLD: Glyph of Frostfire - Increases the damage done by your Frostfire Bolt by 15% and your Frostfire Bolt now deals 3% additional damage over 12 sec, stacking up to 3 times, but no longer reduces the victim's movement speed.
NEW: Glyph of Frostfire Bolt - Reduces the cast time of Frostfire Bolt by 0.5 sec.

Fire mages can glyph this to essentially replace
Fireball
with
Frostfire Bolt
: They will both have the same cast time AND damage, but with a neater visual effect and a short snare (40%).

This glyph makes it so that Fire can replace Fireball with Frostfire Bolt without losing any DPS - but gaining a slow effect.
Use it for solo PvE and PvP, like questing and dailies.
Frost and Arcane have no use for this glyph, since they will never be CASTING Frostfire Bolt - Frost has a Brain Freeze proc that makes it instant (hence this glyph is useless for frost and arcane).

EDIT: According to the
6.1 PTR Patch Notes
:
Glyph of Frostfire Bolt has been replaced with Glyph of Ignite. Glyph of Ignite causes Ignite to also reduce the target’s movement speed by 40%.
