Well, saves you some time and mana.
Turns this buff into an hour long buff on the caster.
Could you put the glyph on, cast thorns, then take the glyph off? And still keep the hour long buff. Would be worth having the glyph around if it does.
For those of us who love thorns and kept 3 pcs of Cenarion...
"Damage dealt by Thorns increased by 4 and duration increased by 50%."
Would that give us 90 minutes, or is the set bonus applied before the glyph?
Does the hr.-long cooldown only work if you selfcast, or does it work if any Druid casts it on you?
Nice glyph that makes keeping thorns up less of a hassle, but it has one annoying flaw: It overwrites thorns cast by any other druid with brambles, even though their thorns are much more powerful (even on a feral druid with no SP).
This glyph seems helpful to a feral tank, I won't have to pop out every ten minutes to rebuff myself anymore, so no more waste of any rage i have left over.
Me thinks i'll use it
IMO, this glyph has its best use for those still levelling.
When doing instances/raids, only the Tank(s) should have Thorns and Thorns scale with Spellpower, one of the stats a tank doesn't need. So basically, if there's a resto/bala druid in your group, his thorns are going to do you far more good than the fact that you only need to cast it once per hour.
If you are thinking of dropping one minor glyph for another, this would probably be a good choice for dropping
Edit on account of the new patch
This glyph probably works best for druids that actually arent tanking themselves. Thorns really help tanks hold agro on packs, so if you're not tanking, put it on the tank and keep it up. Just see it as a mobile AoE DoT that scales with the intended targets' attackspeeds. If you are tanking, you probably wont need this Glyph as IMO it's doubtful you'll reapply it every 20 seconds, but it's still good you'll be able to. If you end one trashpack with <10 rage, reapply, go back to bear and all you lost is 2 GCD in exchange for some nice damage and threat.
Im not much for PvP myself, but it seems that this Glyph allows Resto Druids to deal some mad damage to melee classes if they're not careful...
As a leveling Moonkin Druid, one of the most infuriating annoyances was trying to reapply thorns only to be given a message that "A more powerful spell is already active". I would suggest any leveling druid to pick this up. It won't make you level faster but it definitely is a quality of life improvement.
While this glyph was probably intended as a leveling tool for boomkin/restos, I've found the thorns do persist on talent spec changes (both duration and power) and a little trick to get use out of this while tanking. If you're dual specced feral/spellcaster and you've glyphed this on your spellcaster spec, you can switch to that spec, cast Thorns on yourself (make sure you're in spellcaster gear first), and switch back to feral spec. While not terribly convenient, the thorns will do a lot more damage and you can feel pro tank in your long duration, super spikey thorns.
For bear tanks, nothing is more annoying than seeing your buffs dropping when you have a hefty amount of rage to start the next pull with. Plus having to shift out to reapply Thorns is just plain annoying in any scenario. Given that this is a minor glyph, it's worth getting, especially for levelling druids.
Just started leveling up a Feral Druid to tank with a buddy as a healer for dungeon grinds. Let me say one thing: this glyph in its current state is one of the best ways to hold AoE packs. You might lose rage in order to pop out and cast it, but the glyph in combination with 3/3 in Furor and Enrage will essentially make you deal the most damage on any pull, and works like a charm with a good healer.
If this is a MAJOR glyph, why is it discovered by MINOR inscription research?
Despite the fact that this is now a major glyph, it
still be discovered with Minor Inscription Research. It's more than likely a bug that Blizzard just hasn't noticed yet. One of my scribes just unlocked it two days ago, so this bug is still live as of 4.3.
In MoP, Thorns has been removed from the game and the glyph is changed.
MoP: Glyph of Grace - Feline Grace reduces falling damage even while not in Cat Form.
In WotLK this was (Minor) Glyph of Thorns - Increase the duration of Thorns by 50 min. when cast on yourself.
In Cata, the Thorns spell undergoes a big change, reducing the original duration from 10 min to 20 sec and adding a 45 second cooldown. The glyph is updated to reflect this. (Major) Glyph of Thorns - Reduces the cooldown of your Thorns spell by 20 sec.
On behalf of all Druids who leave their mark (crater) on the world and would have otherwise survived if we had time to shift into Cat: Thank you.
One of the few minor glyphs in the game that can actually save your butt. Every druid should have this.
Edit: Why the downvotes? It's true! This glyph actually offers a functional benefit which can be very useful and life saving, as opposed to most glyphs which are just cosmetic and/or gimmicky. If you're serious about wanting to get the most out of your druid from a functional point of view, this minor glyph is a must have.
