Blizz has a pretty good sense of humor.
"who can forget the central rule of roguery -- real rogues don't feint."
<Rogue Academy Proprietor>
You guys are forgetting what the new feint does.
Feint Rank 8
20 Energy Melee Range
Instant 10 sec cooldown
Performs a feint, causing no damage but lowering your threat by a large amount, making the enemy less likely to attack you.
In additon, reduces the damage you take from area of effect attacks by 50%.
I do agree with the glyph being a major its junk. But the skill could be smartly used for the aoe reduction, tott is much better for threat, plus we have vanish.
no more aoe reduction die glyph
I think this might be good for when you're starting off. I mean you get feint at 16 with a 10 sec CD. Yea, you get vanish at 22, but that's a 3 min CD. And Trick of the Trade at 75? Yea, it's not the best thing out there, but I'm pretty sure that blizz wasn't thinking "Oh, hey, lets make a 25-man raid based glyph that lower feint energy cost by 10 sec"
LOL. Nuff said.
This is approximately the
best rogue glyph out there. Very good when raiding an elite target dummy, or if you duel your own alt on your second account as it sits there and takes the damage it doesn't deserve.
Reduces energy of Feint by 20 on 3.3.3 PTR which will make Feint free. Now has some use at no DPS cost (aside from using this glyph over a dps glyph) because it reduces all aoe damage received by 50%. Does anyone know if Feint triggers a GCD?
Apparently hotfixed today. Now reduces the cost of Feint by 20 making feint free.
Here are the only reasons why you would glyph this:
1) You are fighting a raid boss like Saurfang and you get Mark of the Fallen Champion.... you will not lose any DPS when using Feint to mitigate the AoE damage from the mark, AND most likely survive regardless of your healer's ability. This is also a very handy glyph when you are fighting the frost and fire bosses in VoA. You can stand in their AoE and DPS to your heart's content, without any significant loss of DPS.
2) If you find you are dying a lot, and need more tools to keep you up... this can help.
3) If you regularly raid with weaker healers that cannot keep up, in general. (I also suggest moving to a new group!)
Feint should only be used for the AoE damage reduction, and NOT threat reduction. Tricks and Vanish will take care of that. If you are going to be encountering a lot of AoE damage... then maybe this is a choice. Dead DPS = No DPS.
If none of this applies... forget about this glyph and replace with a DPS Glyph.
This is staying a major glyph in Cataclysm, which could make it very useful for PvE given the lack of appealing major glyphs for PvE.
The above comments are almost all pre-cataclysm; this glyph is now a great choice.
I agree with Draggo that the reduction to threat is a fringe benefit, and that the meat of this glyph is the 50% reduction to AoE. Cataclysm seems to rage with AoE (guess maybe that's to do with all this "elements are angry" hoopla the shamen keep going on about?) and I find myself popping Feint several times in more fights than not, because - face it - your dps sucks when you're dead.
Now if I told you there was a glyph that would generate 20 energy for you several times per fight, you'd be all over it, right? So why isn't one that saves you 20 energy just as good?
If you are having no survival problems due to AoE, you probably shouldn't use this glyph.
If you see three other Major glyphs that all provide substantial boosts to your dps, then maybe this gets edged out.
But if, like me, you often find yourself struggling to stay in melee range of your target and survive the AoE at the same time, this glyph is a winner.
I only wish Feint did not trigger a global cd so I could macro it to every strike.
For heroic Morchok this is a must have glyph, since as a rogue, you'll be one of the stomp soakers on either Morchok or Kohcrom.
Not to mention other ds heroics when large amounts of AoE damage are going out, don't forget to feint to save your healers some mana, especially when you're progressing and every little bit helps.
In Mists of Pandaria this glyph has changed again.
OLD: Glyph of Feint - Reduces the Energy cost of Feint by 20.
NEW: Glyph of Feint - Increases the duration of Feint by 2 sec.
Makes a great combo with
increasing damage reduction buff.
costs 20 energy itself so glyph gives you time to regenerate it back. Easier way to have -30% to incoming damage all the time if you manage to use Faint properly.
