most importantly this adds more ticks to proc LnL
Personly i find this a near useless glyph for MM hunters as it doesn't increase Chirerma shot dmg + Chimera shot has a 10 second CD and for my rotation i use it as soon as it cools down so serpent sting doesnt live out its full duration anyway.
This is a must-have glyph for any PvE Hunter spec, along with Glyph of Steady Shot.
It seems the compound chance to proc the LnL effect within the duration of a Serpent Sting is greatly affected by the increase in duration from Glyph of Serpent Sting. This "compound chance" is calculated as follows:
( ( 1 + ( (talent points spent in LnL) / 30) ) ^ (number of ticks in a single application) ) - 1
The base duration of Serpent Sting is 5 ticks. Glyph of Serpent Sting increases the duration to 7 ticks
A 3/3 talent investment in LnL and a Glyph of Serpent Sting should yield a 10% chance to proc each tick for a total of:
( ( 1 + ( 0.1 ) ) ^ 7 ) - 1 = 0.9487 or roughly 95% proc chance in a single application (21 seconds duration).
Compare this to 3/3 talents, and no glyph: 61.1% over 15 seconds
or to 2/3 talents and the glyph: 56.4% over 21 seconds
and finally, 2/3 talents without the glyph: 37.7% over 15 seconds
In short, if you have to choose between 2/3 talents with a glyph and 3/3 talents without a glyph, take the glyph. If you need to spare a talent point for something else, here is where you can do it, at the cost of 1 glyph. My advice: if you're planning on mostly PvE encounters, take this glyph and put that 1 point in something worthwhile.
Note Don't forget this is the chance to proc it in a single application where LnL hasn't been triggered in over 30 seconds.
Important: Patch 3.0.9 contains a bug where targets immune to frost trap still trigger the effect (which also triggers LnL). This bug will be removed in 3.1. In PvP, frost trap does, and will continue to trigger LnL with a mechanic that is seperate from the 30-second internal cooldown on the serpent sting LnL proc. I'll leave the rest to theorycrafting and speculation.
I'm confused. Let's see:
According to the description it adds 2 ticks more.
According to the description of Chimaera shot, it deals 40% of the dmg done by your serpent sting.
So with this and since we shoot chimaera every 9 seconds (with the glyph) it will deal the same dmg with the improved sting or without it, since 9 seconds does not include those two ticks.
BUT the thing is that people says it DOES increase your damage, so here are my thoughts:
"deals 40% of the dmg done by your serpent sting" Not the dmg which HAS BEEN DONE BUT the dmg it DOES as total even if you shoot it just 0,5 seconds ago it will deal the same dmg as if you waited tho the last second.
I still don't have the dual thing so can anybody check this for me? shoot sting and chimaera 1 second later, note down dmg
shoot sting and wait to the last second to shoot chimaera, note down dmg
If dmg are the same are the same (after some minutes of trying) my thoughts are correct. If they aren't then it's bugged.
The thing is that the description makes you think it's the dmg which HAS BEEN DONE till you shoot chimaera.
Look anoter effect of chimaera: "Viper Sting - Instantly restores mana to you equal to 60% of the total amount drained by your Viper Sting."
Does it means drained to when you shoot chimaera o the ammount viper says it drains in the description.
THAT is the question about this.
For PvE Survival, spec's into noxious stings and not into IAotH (since i have around 330 haste rating and it therefore just helps white damage), I am using this as my 3rd glyph, with Glyph of Explosive Shot and Glyph of Kill Shot.
I highly recommend this set up if you are raid survival spec'd.
this provides 40% more damage on serpent sting part of chimera shot
I would save this glyph for later, closer to endgame. Normally, mobs drop before the unglyphed Serpent Sting finishes. I'm sure it will shine later on, though, especially for Marksmanship. I'll stick with the
glyph for level 15.
In Mists of Pandaria this glyph has changed.
OLD: Glyph of Serpent Sting - Increases the periodic critical strike chance of your Serpent Sting by 6%.
NEW: Glyph of Tame Beast - Reduces the time required to complete Tame Beast by 4 sec.
This would make getting those rare pets just a bit easier as a 40% reduction in channel time is a bit huge :D
Every single pet there is people feel the need to say use this glyph. To that I say DUH! Between this and the stampede minor glyph there are no other glyphs any hunter would use. Suggesting to use this glyph to help tame a pet is like telling someone they should breathe to stay alive.
