These drop off of pretty much any mob in Storm Peaks and are used for quests that reward you with a drink that gives an hour long buff. The quests are available from Olut Alegut at the Grom'arsh Crash-site for the Horde and from Rork Sharpchin in Frosthold for the Alliance.
Random Blizzard Developer 1: Hey, shouldn't we make one for hunters too?
Random Blizzard Developer 2: Meh...
Unlike the other drinks, the Iron Boot Flask is re-usable.
Also of note, with regards to the drinks, is that Airy Pale Ale and Worg Tooth Oatmeal Stout do stack.
I have found this stacking extremely useful for when I'm grinding in Storm Peaks on my paladin, but I can also see this beneficial for any other mana users that like to AOE grind or are potentially being hit while casting.
If anyone could add an insightful area to aoe grind these that would be helpful now that they're used for grinding rep. I'll start experiments on this and edit this comment later:
So far I've found flying between Nidavelir and the giant iron dwarf encampment by the snowdrift plains and aoeing packs to be quite fruitful, however there's usually a lot of questers in the area.
If questers are in the area killing the mobs, just fly down to the battle at the edge of snowdrift plains, tons of super fast respawns there. Best grinded as a dps spec as it's hard to grab them in aoe packs (tank specs do this best). However, as prot paladin I'm still grinding at a decent rate.
Avg speed at snowdrift plains = 60 relics/hr
The best spot from my knowledge is the mines at 44, 67ish. There are plenty of vrykul miners in each little offshoot cave inside the main mine, about 3-8 miners each. Gathering up 2-3 of these "offshoot caves" and aoeing em down will get you about a relic every other mob, for a total of about 8-12/pull. On my shadowpriest I could do 15 or so pulls pet hour, and got tons of these.
Hope this helps!
The mob with the highest and most accurate drop rate (based on total number of kills) are
. They drop grey crystals as well as
and they have a very quick spawn rate, rarely do I encounter a situation where there are none alive. If you have ming theres a bonus for you, each one will drop
which vendor for 22s each.
In my time grinding on them the average relics per hour is roughly 80.
If the the turn-in for rep is a repeatable quest, does that mean it can only be done once per day? if that is true, then i don't think it will get any easier to up ur rep.
I think it's 'repeatable' like the Aldor/Scryer turn-ins, Netherwing Eggs, and Everfrost Chips are 'repeatable'. That's the only way it makes any sense.
I see many people noting that in the 3.08 patch these can be turned in for Son's of Hodir rep but, at the time I made this post, the patch notes made no mention of it. A few comments concerning the lack of mention in the patch notes were made in this thread via replies to posts but without clicking 'Show comment' I didn't see them. So, this is just a 'visible' heads up to those of you who may be saving these up for the 3.08 patch....I won't believe it til I see it in the actual patch notes.
The best place i have found to farm these are in the caves of Brunnhildar Village - the captive and exhausted vrykuls drop them very very frequently for me and are a good source of gold, greys, greens and food/water and have a relatively fast respawn time. For me as a naxx geared ret pally they die rather quickly(3-4s per kill) and zero downtime. I have farmed about 500 of them in 2 days 3-4 hours per day.
Good luck with your farming :)
If your one of those people who buys everything, this might be of use to you.
Honored-Exaulted =33,000 rep
10 relic = 250 rep
10 relic = 275 rep (Human only)
33,000/250 = 132 turn-ins or 1320 relics
33,000/275 = 120 turn-ins or 1200 relics for a human
Very possible to farm this in a few days. Hope that helps :)
According to Bornakk, a blue in the WoW forums, Relics of Ulduar may remain soulbound after patch 3.08. So, while things could still change, that means you wouldn't be able to buy your rep with Sons of Hodir on the AH, farm relics to sell on the AH, or transfer relics to alts if you've been saving them.
Link to post in WoW Forums here
I guess i can see why they wouldn't want Sons of Hodir rep to be THAT easy to obtain, but it's not like we haven't been able to buy rep in the past. I wish they'd at least make it "Bind to Account" so you could transfer to an alt.
If you wanna grind relics of uldar the Forlorn mine as other people suggested sure are the way to go.
You will get tons of random vendor items, frostweave cloth and many.. many relics, decent fast.
And not to mention all mobs will have respwaned by the time you cleared the last "side way" in the end :) I useally start at the Brunnhildar Village and go down that way clearing all mobs on sight.
Edit: In 1 hour down in that mine, of focused grinding as a feral druid: I got 60x frostweave cloth and about 60 relics -/+. Cant really renember the right number :) And many greens pots vendor trash etc. Sell your "crap" at Warsmith sigfinna. That NPC is the cloest vendor and repair, right outside the mine in the first hub in the village btw.
As stated above, the Relics of Ulduar should become a repeatable "turnin" quest for The Sons of Hodir. However, to become Neutral with The Sons of Hodir, you must complete a few quest chains (about 30~36 quests)
For information on these chains and where to pick them up,
view The Sons of Hodir Comment Section
Starts and accepts the quest. He's in the centre of the Son's settlement. 66.2, 61.4
These are no longer soulbound on live 3.0.8.
No longer soulbound as of 3.0.8. Enjoy selling them if you're already exalted or passing them to an Alt.
We are now able to turn 10 of these in at a time to
at Dun Niffelem for 250 reputation with
The Sons of Hodir
Macro turn in if you happened to have bought a lot of them, like I did (1200 of them).

Thanks to post(s) below - I've updated some info.
As a frostfire mage my favorite place to farm these was Valkyrion.
you can spellsteal an ability off of the aspirants there to give you +50% crit dmg dealt and taken and a 25% increased chance to crit. I was critting nearly every spell and one shotting every mob I crit with frostfire bolt. This also made blizzard crit for a good amount when I could group some together. Really though any mage could have an easy time farming over there
is a daily-related mob. It's the
that are not used for a daily.
Note, before I realized the people mass slaughtering these Vyrkul I was doing the regular quest, to much aggravation each of the tunnels had a different group mass AoE farming them.
I discovered this, however, because of it. You can still tap Exhausted Vyrkul for the daily as long as the rod wasn't already used on them.
Let me repeat this. You run in, grab them all. As long as no-one used the daily rod on the E. Vyrkul another person can still use the one you are kill for the daily.
So for those feeling guilty, just let the daily doer know this if you see one looking a tad bit morose.
If an engineer, the Librarians might be slightly prefered as you can "skin" them for parts.
For those of you who would like to farm relics, but don't want to feel the wrath of people by killing daily-related mobs, I highly suggest
. They're out in the Storm Peaks boonies, appear even after you have finished the Iron Colossus questline, and are usually already half dead by the time you get to one (even at 30% health, I'm still able to loot them, though my luck to loot is iffy if I get to one at 5% health). You'll have help from Earthen Defenders (packs will faceroll the Raider you're on by knocking them back or slowing their movement speed) and Dolomite Giants. There's a vendor (mailbox too!) close by to sell the junk in your bag, there's a flight path to here if you've done the questline, they respawn fast, and you won't anger anyone!
From my general experience, every two out of three dropped relics for me (maybe even better) however your luck may differ.
i must have been lucky to get a few off
I can get about 100 per hour avg in Frostgrip's Hollow. That is the cave below Sirana Iceshriek. The mobs here spawn fast. I work in a counter clockwise direction so I can drop off the cave ledge to start the cycle again.
On that note, killing Captive/Exhausted Vrykul could be considered better for miners since mining nodes pop up in the same area.
You can hand them in at neutral rep. I handed in a couple stacks today as neutral.
The Exhausted Vyrkul are a part of the random daily from Gretta the Arbiter. However, don't be too concerned about interfering with those doing the daily. The respawn rate is rather fast and its again one of a few daily possibilities Greta offers.
If you want to be nice just check and see what the current daily is and if its Exhausted Vyrkul day just not farm them or be mindful of those trying to complete the daily.
The Exhausted/Captive Vrykul do not seem to drop the relics for me as of patch 3.08. Maybe it was a patch, or maybe it is because I've done all of the Brunnhilder quests, but I've killed 20+ and got zero drops.
I can confirm that farming these off of captured and exhausted vrykruls is about a 40% drop rate not to mention they drop plenty of frostweave. But in about 30 mins of farming an exhausted vrykrul dropped this
Phazz's place for the exhasted vrykul and captive vrykul are a great place to farm them, also if your a tailor these mobs have a GREAT drop of frostweave, i was able to make 6 stacks in one hour and farm at least 30 relics as well.
You will need an amount of 1800 relics if you want Neutral>Exalted. On my server one of these cost 4g, wich means you will need to spend around 7200g.
Notice: This is if you dont want to do ANY (daily) quest.
These appear to now drop off of golems in heroic instances in storm peaks: between 1-3 per mob.
Video i made to learn how to farm these ive made over 3k+ over the weekend doing this
Not a single one to be found within Ulduar. It would have made too much sense(to Blizzard anyway) if it actually dropped there =)
"There are certain
individuals who place value in these."
Grammar police, anyone?
I was farming Argent Dawn rep in WPL, killing scourge etc. And ended with 2 of these in my bag, i haven't been in Storm Peaks in months, and don't see how these would have gotten in my bags, except from farming the AD rep. odd. anyone else?
For those who are interested in farm reputation with The Sons of Hodir:
I believe 76,64 is a great farming zone for those who are not only focus in get Relic of Ulduar but earn some gold too.
After exactly one hour farming all Seething Revenant around there I got 93 Relic of Ulduar, 8 Eternal Fire (22 gold each), 9 Crystallized Fire (2,40 gold each), almost 70 gold in junk items, 11 green items (for DE) and 1 Blue item BoE that probably sells nicely in AH. So farming Relic of Ulduar I got almost 270 gold and i still have DE items that can give me more gold if i sell mats in AH too (this are the prices on my realm)!
I'm a Holy Priest and i was farming in Shadow (offspecc) with healing gear and i didn't make one single mana break. I was stupified cause i couldn't clean the entire zone for a second! The mobs dont stop spawning and spawning so it makes that zone a pure farm zone! Sometimes you kill one mob and it spawn another in the exact location of the mob you just kill, and again, and again... it happened with me uncountable times!
Maybe i agree if you say that this is not the better place to farm Relic of Ulduar, but i think you would agree if i say that this is the most lucrative zone if you want to get some Relic of Ulduar! :P
For those handing in mass amounts of these, I strongly recommend using an addon called Carbonite which has a feature called "Auto turn in quests when talking to NPC". Couple this addon feature with the following macro:
The process to complete 1 quest then becomes
Right click giant once
Press macro once
As an affliction warlock in naxx 25 gear I could dot the various Vyrkul up and gain more HP from siphon life than they'd do damage... a dream for farming on the Vyrkul!
Bottom line: I think the drop rate of the relics are significantly lower than as it shows on wowhead data. Please either confirm or enlighten me.
If you go to the link that lists all the mobs that drop these relics and look at their chance of drop, you'll notice that vast majority of the mobs have at least 50% chance of dropping the relic, according to the data on that link that is.
Before I say that those data are severely misleading, I just wanted to ask you guys if you think the data are correct to say that those mobs have 50% chance to drop the relic.
I have killed a sizable group of mobs (so that you know that I'm not one of those impatient people who kill 10 mobs and run here to say THIS IS BS, I only got TWOO!) suchs as stormforge artificers, pillagers, champions, Vakyrion aspirant, Niffelem forefathers and the dwaven mobs in the same area to pick a good area to farm the relics. NONE of these mobs seemed to drop it any more often than maybe 1 out of 5.
Can someone tell me if I should kill maybe a thousand of each to get more accurate figure, or there is an explanation for such optimistic data here?
Edit: I think Valkyrion aspirant may have higher chance thatn 1 out of 5.. maybe 30% ~ 40%. But for the rest, I stand by my words.
The area of Seething Revenant and Brittle Revant are very good for Relic of Ulduar.
Seeting after killing 245 times: around 38%
Brittle after 131 times: 31%
Both mobs are level 80.
The respawnrate in the Fjorn's Avil (it's most east from Dun Niffelem) is pretty high.
What is more, thanks to mob spell from Seetings, they don't move around when casting. Killing them is much easier for ranged characters.
Of course more mobs in whole zone can drops relics, but this area is more active.
Have not turned in "Forging a Head" because i'm not sure the phased area goes away.
I let you know when i'm honored to The Sons of Hodir. :)
I wouldn't farm these. They are only ~1g each. So about 1k gold to get Exalted if you do all the quests atleast once.
You can earn 1k gold much faster than it takes to farm up 1000 of these.
just got hacked earlier today, found out that the gold farmers favourite way to get money is appearantly by selling these relics at AH
Where and to whom tunr the relics in to gain honor with the Sons of Hodir?
As of patch 3.3:
Turning in 10 of these will now grant you 650 rep.
did the quest chain and the first set of daily quests and hit revered within 2 hours
went to the AH and bought 300 relics for 100 gold and hit exalted
if only all factions were this easy!
So basically, these are just good for those drinks, and Rep?
10 of this give 715rep as human...
were ican find the vendor who ican give him the rilc of uldar and make me honored?
what city and were ?
Just to update for people who don't want to do the math:
Honored to Exalted = 33,000 rep
10 Relics = 650 rep
10 Relics = 715 rep (Human only)
33,000 / 650 = 50 turn-ins, or 500 Relics
33,000 / 715 = 46 turn-ins, or 460 Relics
In case someone hasn't heard of it, there is a better shoulder enchant for tanks right
Dunno if the others are still the best for other specs.
Be sure to read
post here. It contains the most current calculation for Hodir Rep.
A tip for farming. I find that the best mob to kill are the Brittle elementals right behind the guy you turn them in to. This is due to the fact that 1)the spawn rate is rediculous, 2)they are very easy to kill, and 3)they also drop Crystallized Earth at an amazing rate, almost 2 from every other mob. 20 minutes of farming, and I already had 4 Eternal Earths. Very easy to make some cash with.
Use for rep with Son of Hodir. Turn in at Dun Niffelem to Lillehoff..
As of patch 4.0.3 I am getting 357 rep per hand in as a Human.
You need 1500 of these to construct your very own lego ulduar.
Only gives you 350 rep per stack of 10.
When you turn in 10 of these for the rep, you will also get 60k guild exp. Useful for smaller, newer, or less active guilds to suddenly boost their level. Can most likely find these cheap now since mounts are account wide and there is less of a reason to turn these in.
Looks like that got hotfixed...no more guild rep it seems
I just picked up 73 in a quick(ish) clear of Halls of Lighting, and 47 in Halls of Stone up to the Tribunal encounter, both heroic. Ran through again on normal, and got 73/56.
(At least on my server) You have to
You can also
add this line
(it shows the
icon and how many you have left in your bags)
#show Relic of Ulduar
To improve the efficiency of this macro,
make a bind for
Interact With Target
Game Menu > Key Bindings > Targeting Functions > Interact With Target
once and the macro thrice (select, continue, complete); repeat until desired reputation is reached.
Interact with target
will open up the new dialogue with
everytime you complete
Thanks to this the whole turn-in process relies solely on pressing two keys.
As of Patch 6.2.3. a stack of 10 relics turned in rewards 325 reputation (357.5 if you're human).
How many of these do you actually need to get exalted?
did 1 halls of lightning heroic run dropped 92, cleaned everything
still can get reputation from the relics of ulduar......i am a draenei and turned in 10 and got 325 points (was already at revered for Sons of Hodir at the time)
Turn in at :
If you're farming the first room of Halls of Lightning for these, I would recommend making smaller pulls instead of pulling the entire room. I tested this a couple times and pulling the entire room resulted in about 11-14 relics each time as where pulling the packs individually amounted to a net total of ~25.
Also if anyone was wondering, the reputation gain from turning these in to Lillehoff is still the same as before, which is 325 -- and 357 if you're a human. Which means, as a non-human race, you need ~650 relics to go from Revered to Exalted and 590 as a human.
Farm this on first room of Halls of Lightning Heroic mode. Start, go clockwise killing everypack but avoiding the boss. Clean first room, exit the instance, reset, rinse and repeat
If farming relics in Halls of Lightning, remember to equip a wotlk or city tabard for some free passive rep to your preferred faction.
If you want to farm those for
Reputation, I suggest to do so in
. You will get around ~80 per run which is about ~2500 rep per run if you clear everything. On normal difficulty you can reset the instance and can get exaltet in just one day.
