Insect Swarm (at least for me) is still a very good spell to keep up in Hyjal and BT. Not because of the hit debuff which is NOT the reason why moonkins should use it, but for its excellent mana efficiency and dmg. For me without a glyph, it does more dmg than a normal wrath hit and costs a fraction of the mana. Starfire and a glyphed moonfire is your bread and butter in pve but they both cost alot of mana and will drain you fast.

if you look at this is meeckraube style logic, its obvious this is a good glyph. 30% is bigger than the 3% loss. 27% more is good. fin.

An absolutely wonderful glyph. I replaced this with glyph of innervate in order to help my guild progress through Wrath content. Now that there is not much left to progress and tank mitigation is significantly higher I intend to replace my innervate glyph with this once more in order to boost my personal DPS.
In short ask your tanks if you think they need the bonus 3% miss, if they don't put this on and make the bugs bring the pain.

i find this glyph is amazing for any druid leveling dream state. with such an over population of tanks now a days its far easier to get a group being their healer. however though, i hate tree of life and enjoy soloing when i don't have time to group so the dream state build works great for me. when it comes to soloing in that build my biggest complaint is that i want to kill things faster. taking damage is not a problem with such high spell power to toss an occasional heal on myself. the reduced chance to hit means little to me since i never cast this when i am healing in instances.
i am using this and the glyph of healing touch and enjoy both very much. i cannot say if these are viable at 80, but so far from 70-73 i cannot complain at all.

I am astonished, why anybody hasn't mentioned the 2 piece set bonus of t7 and t7.5 ( Your IS deals an additional 10% dmg). Having in mind that, it makes IS deal 40% more dmg. Considering its mana cost i would say that IS has become THE ideal damage over time spell.

This glyph is very good for PvP or I'm wrong? There isn't much good glyphs for Balance Druid (maybe one with wrath pushback). And +30% dmg from one of DoT's is a good bonus, IMO better than -3% chance to be hitted. With glyph IS does 1677 dmg. So with 1200 Spell Power damage is 2591 over 12 seconds (6 ticks for 431 dmg).

That is one of the most short sighted postings I've seen on this site for awhile. The simple fact is, yes your tanks should have enough mitigation to tank what they are up against. It isn't a matter of do they NEED more mitigation, its a matter of the fact that you CAN PROVIDE it. No, the 2% hit isn't going to make a huge difference, but if you are up against a very hard hitting boss, (Patchwerk comes to mind, or many bosses in UD), then every bit helps.
a)atk faster on a parry b) gain on hit against themselves enchant procs or ability procs(i.e. blocking) and c) etc
-2% chance to hit doesn't affect your chance to parry or block. Don't think of it as a buff to the tank, it is a cushion for your healer, as frankly that is the only thing the tank is doing in the first place.

Let's clear one thing up - if you're the only Druid that can provide the -%miss ability (either only Moonkin or no Scorpid Sting available) you better damn well not Glyph this - 3% miss is HUGE in Ulduar!

atm this glyph adds about 300 dmg/tick to my insect swarm. thats 2100 damage increase. it is true though, that you should let your tank have his 3% miss, i give so many buffs already though! 5% crit, 3% haste, 13% dmg, 3% spell hit. with the next patch eclipse is getting a major buff too. almost every single cast should be buffed by eclipse.
the one problem is there is no other good glyph to get aside from moonfire and starfire which everyone should have nomatter what end of story. if i was working into uld progression i would drop this glyph if my healers were feeling mana issues.
i also use this glyph for my druid's pvp resto spec along with SM and barkskin

The glyph of starfall is far behind this glyph in DPS, but the 3% hit is VERY noticable on Saurfang.
Edit: With the damage buff to starfall, this becomes less viable.

Unglyphed, IS adds 3% of quality avoidance outside of DR. I say "quality" because chance-to-be-missed is the best possible avoidance given that it works regardless of the tank's facing or being stunned, feared etc. Disregarding that entirely, it's still 3% avoidance outside of DR which is solid.
The buff is also unique for all practical purposes - the only other source is hunters' Scorpid Sting, which would come at a much greater dps cost as it replaces Serpent Sting.

Assuming 4000 spellpower to be optimistic
(1290 / 6) + (4000 * 1.2 /6) = 1015 per tick
7 Ticks with talents = 7105 total dmg before buff/debuff modifiers
7105 * 1.03 * 1.03 * 1.13 = 8518 total dmg in a raid environment
8518 / 14 = 608.43 dps unglyphed
608.43 * 0.3 =
182.53 dps gain from glyph
If we glyph IS on the assumption that the MT "doesn't need" 3% extra avoidance, we might as well follow the same logic and have tanks gear and spec for increased dps. The reality is that MT's taking on seriously hard-hitting bosses (Festergut springs to mind) increase their survivability by all possible means. Would you agree with an MT trading away 3% solid undiminished avoidance for a personal dps gain of ~183? That is precisely what glyphing IS amounts to.
But if the aim of the moonkin player is not to increase the success rate of his raid but rather to play the mini-game of "meter smashing" then I suppose he's right to glyph IS.

In Patch 3.3.5, this was Glyph of Insect Swarm (Major) - Increases the damage of your Insect Swarm ability by 30%, but it no longer affects your victim's chance to hit.
In Patch 4.0.1, it has been changed to Glyph of Insect Swarm (Prime) - Increases the damage of your Insect Swarm ability by 30%.

For MoP they have rehashed the old druid "Insect Swarm" glyph to this, quite simply, wonderful glyph. I'm sure all my fellow druids will be happy to become a beautiful Orca than the fugly sea lion thing were use to!
Its great that in this new expansion that druids will have choices on how they look in different forms and its a master stroke by Blizzard in truth.
In the real world there are only some 42 in captivity with a suggested 50,000+ in the seas and oceans across the whole world. Blizzard may have their scaling slightly wrong though as they can grow up to 8 meters in length (26 feet) and weigh over 6 tonnes; so try to remember this when you jump into a pool of water as you will probably displace enough water to lower the water level considerably!

In Mists of Pandaria, this glyph is turning to Glyph of the Orca, and becoming a Minor glyph.
The glyph's effect is, basically, turning your floating-monstrosity-with-flippers that is your swimming form into the horned orca model from Northrend's oceans.

In Vashj'ir, it appears as if you're either possessed or epileptic, yet somehow being propelled forward.

As of 7.0.3, you need to get this glyph again to get orca again, even if you already had it. Buy/make it, and apply it to the travelform spell in your spellbook. Sadly, using one glyph will exclude all other travelform glyphs.

This Druid glyph, was altered in
Legion
. This is applied directly to your spell, in your spellbook.
Removing a glyph: use
Vanishing Powder
on the specific spell, this will remove the effect, however, if you want the glyph again, you'll need to rebuy it.
