Swiss Army Knife anyone?
7 items condensed down to 1, very nice!
Most of the items named "Gnomish X" added in wotlk thus far do not have requires gnomish engineering anywhere on them, so it could be that the name is simply flavor and either spec can use them.
all you need in a handy package. the enginneers essential
How many engineers need skinning knife? ;)
Don't suppose anyone can confirm whether the cables count as Standard or XL? As I'm a Gobbo engi and would hate to have to carry my own cables because the pocket knife had the wimpy ones.
Both Jumper Cable Sets Share a Cooldown with The Gnomish Army Knife
This will Definately Save a Buncha Bag space, Considering it sits snugly in a single Slot =)
PS Just goes to show this goes with just about any Profession! (Except Enchanting )
It'd be pretty neat if it doubled as a fishing-pole too.
Conspiracy theorists will remember that is that gnomes are often associated with Switzerland, hence gnomish (swiss) army knife.
The Gnomes of Zurich (Capital of Switzerland) is a term used by conspiracy theorists to describe Swiss banking elites.
Edit: OK Capital of Switzerland is Bern. My family is even descended from there....
This thing is awesome.
This is probably the coolest item the Gnomes have come up with, and that includes the chicken transformation gun.
It appears that this item does not bind on use or pick-up. This means that, if you so desire, you can trade this item repeatedly between toons that can benefit from it, saving yourself a great deal of bag space and maximizing the mileage you get out of this incredibly handy item.
The beauty of this item is you don't need engineering to carry around this item and it counts as:
A Gyromatic Micro-Adjuster
An Arclight Spanner
A Flint and Tinder
A Blacksmithing Hammer
A Mining Pick
And a Skinning Knife
Basically it's a space saver but with the added bonus of a goblin jumper cables if your a grand master engineer i.e. engineering 375-450.
As long as you would normal carry around two of those listed items in your bags then it's a space saver.
McGyver, meet your better half!
Does anyone know the success rate on this? Is it even higher then that of the Goblin Jumper Cables XL?
ive been waiting for something like this! reduces bag and bank spaces from 7 to 1. GREAT! and also its the better version of GOBLIN JUMPER CABLES XL.
maybe it can be sold to non engineers as well as just the army knife
Can a non-engineer use this as a pick/hammer?
Just needs a Simple Grinder...
Quinn Quarksprocket, the knife's inventor, was heard to say when this was released: "No, I don't know why a knife needs a battery. I thought it seemed like a good idea at the time, and I was right--we found a use for it in the end! Just, you know, don't take it underwater or bang it against anything and you'll be fine."
Anyone know how frequent the rezzing effect works? Is it better than the XL Cables?
A guildmate of mine, who isn't an engineer, say he can use the resurrection part. Since he say that I assume that anyone can use it, but only engineers have any success rate? Or is it so that anyone can use it and ress?
As to Dakdas's comment above, it would be impossible to add the Mote Extractor to the Gnomish Army Knife because it already has a use effect. (The Jumper Cables) /Shrug /Troll
And I'm 0/2, where I had incredible luck with the XL :-)
Leave it to those stupid Gnomish Engineers to lower my success rate..
the only problem i seem to see is the fact that it only fits in engineering bags, it'd be useful if it would fit in my LW bag
Is it possible that this item has a hidden +5 skining and/or + 5 mining on it? (referring to the post about mining skill not turning green untill 445)
Also, what about us miners / herbalist... we got left out? (even though herbing does not require a item, i realize this is a bag space issue more then anything else)
To make this, do you need the EXACT mats listed, or something that can pick mine, etc? (I use a mine pick from VC, just to be unique.)
this item got better use for enginnering stuff more than others couse even if u have the hammerpick those saves you only 2 slots but whit this one save ya 4 and sum times those slots are essential for grind and other stuff, can save u sum precius minutes :)
this is too one of the few items that can allow u to lvl up enginnering.
I just bought 3 for 3g each from some guy on my server.
I'm zero for four on rezzes. Not sure what the percentage is, but either it is not high or I am unlucky.
Why does this not count as an inscription ink set? Most multi tools IRL have ball-point pens or something like that.
You don’t need to be 450 Engineer to use any part of these (including res), Possibly over 375, but definitely not 450.
It's too bad that there isn't a bunch of
stuffed in this beauty.
I'm sure that the Rogues under us would appreciate that ^_^
At the time of posting this, making this is the only (cost effective) way to get engineering from 435 to 450.
If you're hoping for improved convenience and a saved bag slot by using this to create
, you will be disappointed. It still requires having
as a reagent.
My guild mate rez'd me with this during a heroic, and I rez'd at the Westfall graveyard(I'd never been to Westfall as this was my Deathknight). This happen to anyone else?
I love this! Bought it for a sweet 7g - saves me the frustration of realizing I sold/trashed my mining pick to make bags-space. Or the agony of having to walk all the way back to the Orgrimmar Bank to grab my blacksmith hammer or engineering gear. :D it's so great!
I'll also get one for my Rogue (Skinning/Mining) to prevent those annoying 'oops' moments. Not to mention later my Hunter can use it to rez people! ^^
I love combo items!
About this item being the cheapest way to lvl engineering(every guide I found on the net said so), it's a MAJOR pain when it turns green. For me at least. I had like 1/20 success rate...I have got black circles around my eyes farming saronite to get to 450...
Seriously, keep your goggle craft(and heartseeker scope?) till this thing turns green first. And then I would consider crafting a couple of goggles again...(ok yeah, exaggerating a little. maybe. :P )
this is another reason why hunters should be engs.
all hunters can use feign death (and for rouges possibly vanish) then while out of combat charge the army knife, it will revive the person of your choosing. this saved my group on H UP when our healer was killed, but i was able to rez him.
Can this be made and used by both goblin and gnomish engineers?
Can both Gnomish and Goblin Engineers make and use these?
freak luck or buffed proc chance? last 20 resses, all succesful :|
It would be nice if this integrated the vendor bought JC tools as well. Don't suppose it does and it is just undocumented?
I have two engineers. One of them is also a miner, so obviously it is the most useful to her as the only tool she cannot use is the skinning knife. Big deal. Both are goblin spec engineers, but it is worthy to note that you do NOT have to be an engineer to use the mundane tools. I have used the rez option several times with both characters and have had mostly successful rezzes with them. I'm going to guess a 75% chance is accurate. I have not checked to see if there is a bug that allows non-engineers to use them.
On another note, I gave nearly every one of these I made (I must have made about 45 of them in total) away as Winter Veil presents to total strangers. Great stocking stuffers!
I dont know if anyone's thought about this. But has anyone wondered how you use your blacksmith hammer to turn your blacksmith hammer into an item.
just picked this up for a few of my toons on Kalecgos (US) for under 1g while the bladed pickaxe went for 3g and the hammer pick went for 6g. So prices really depend on your server economy.
Since there are not that many posts addressing the question of resurrection success rate, I wanted to add that I have had 5/5 successful attempts with the Knife so far. That is in sharp contrast to the Jumper Cables XL, with which I had no success ever, probably zero for 12 or 15 attempts. I had stopped carrying the Cables in fact.
So, at least for me, this item is subjectively much more useful, and my experience lines up with what several others here have observed.
even tough this has the flint and tinder in it it does not have the wood, wich makes it pretty much useless when you need that camfire on top of that random mountain( unless of course you cally wood with you wich i dont think most people do...least i dont)
I just got mine for 80 Silver o_O
(Ducking for cover, waiting for purge)
"even tough this has the flint and tinder in it it does not have the wood, wich makes it pretty much useless when you need that camfire on top of that random mountain( unless of course you cally wood with you wich i dont think most people do...least i dont)"
an army knife with a wood dispenser xD
Now that my "friend" would be epic!
Mentioned in Dark Legacy Comic Nr.173.
If only the knife had those handcuffs...
I am a miner and a skinner. How do you get it to hold your skinning knife and mining pick.
They just changed the campfire portion of this item.
YOU NO LONGER NEED TO CARRY FIREWOOD!
This is great, they fixed it in Patch 3.0.8
The flint and tinder on this knife just got
so much better
:) No need for Simple Wood to make fires :D
Very nice to have one of these now that
can be made without the
(Just use the
spell on your Spellbook general tab, it took me a sec to realize the right-click functionality was only for the Jumper Cables part of the knife)
I previously tracked the successful and failed rezzes of the
Goblin Jumper Cables XL
, and determined the success rate to be about 50-50 (based on 106 rezzes, 50 of which were successful).
Similarly, I am tracking the rezzes of this item. The data set is still quite small and statistically insignificant, however I will update it after every use.
Currently, I have 23 rezzes and 12 failures, indicating a
~66% success rate
, up from 50%. As anyone with any cables experience would know, these rates are highly affected by streaks of successes and failures, so please take this statistic with a grain of salt until I have more data, preferably above ~50 rezzes, although 100 would be ideal.
I do think it's safe to kick your cables to the curb and stick these in your pack though, especially because they
share a cooldown
. There's no need to carry both, and these are shaping up to be the superior rezzers.
All recipients of the tracked rezzes are level 80 and across a broad variety of classes. I am unaware of class or level impacting the success rate of the Army Knife, but I will try to keep all targets at 80 to prevent the data from being skewed in either direction. I do not believe class would have any impact.
This also needs:
Runed Titanium Rod
Unlimited supply of Vials.
Proffesion training NPCs
A NPC that sells each item sellable by any vendor in WoW
A NPC that can give all the quests in WoW
A NPC that you can turn in all your quests to
INN Keeper (So you will be rested wherever you are)
Portals to all the cities and instances
Yup, I wish I had a Netherstorm in my Army Knife.
And that all the NPCs and Fishing water will be in that personal Netherstorm
I just bought 3. For 10g each from a guildie trying to skill up.
For my Main, My Skinner, and My BS/ Miner. Very Useful for the last one.
This item is even more useful now that simple wood has been removed as a reagent for making a campfire. For that matter, as mentioned you can find them for dirt cheap, so pick one up and replace your flint and tinder (if you carry it) just because it's so darn cool.
a few of toldry's suggestions for items to add, are obviously jokes, and completely undoable. however, as for the rest of his and others' suggested additions, did it ever occur to any of you that they might be saving something for the sequel?
to supply engineering, most engineers are also miners, so they include a bunch of the stuff such engineers can use, plus the skinning *knife*, since it is a gnomish army *knife*, would be a bit too silly even for gnomes for it to have no knife blade on it.
this gives a majorly useful toy for us to use currently, while still leaving plenty of room for a better version in future expansions. i look forward to the Gnomish Army Knife XL in the next x-pac, and what would be left to include in it, if they put every tool, npc, and freakin' zone, in this one?
flint and tinder at an army knife? Old school stuff!
Also from what I can see, unlike other jumper cables the army knife seems to have a 100% success rate (atleast in my experience).
I got one for FREE yesterday, a guy was saying in Trade that he would give one for free if they got to him in Dalaran in under 1 minute. Well I just wanted to ask if it really doesn't bind or have an level requirement so I whisped asking him about it, then he answered that it was correct and if I wanted one.
Since I was in IF and HS on cd I said I would otherwise but I can't get to Dalaran in 1 minute, and what does he do? He said he would mail it for me :) I don't know why but it arrived in the mailbox 2 hours later, but anyway I picked it up and there was a message, which I can't remember atm, but it said something that it's your lucky day, I hope you like it, etc.
It's nice that there are still nice people in WoW, even though they seem to be a rare breed
Please note - This can
be placed in a Mining Bag. Depending on your professions, Miners may want to consider The
To thoose of you that think, that because this can be used by non-engineers, to make a pretty penny on the auction house, you have got to remember that engineers can make freaking bikes now (and when the price falls, were gonna see a few "Hells Angels" guilds), that costs at least 7k of gold on my server.
Does the army knife have a better chance of reviving the player than the Jumper Cables XL or is it the same?
How come no one ever sells this on AH? :(
as MoP, it tooltip say it include:
it actually include the function of:
with 30 min cd
can still save some slots of your bag
Have it on my hunter and it is great as it saves a bag slot where I used to keep a flint. He is a skinner but also a cook. I hardly ever used the basic camp fire before as I usually forgot to carry around the wood! (another bag slot!) but now I use it all the time for the daily cooking quests. One bag slot free and it will pay for itself with the vendor junk you sell!
in my opinion, the by far easiest way 2 lvl engineering. they vendor under 1g and the AH is always flooded, but the mats r worth it
10 saronite bars = >10min farming in sholoazar
everything else = about 1s
are the cables reusable?
Also needs to include a Simple Grinder for us JCs!
Sells for less than 1 gold on my realm. One Saronite Ore sells for one gold on average. These take 20 Saronite Ore to make pluse the hammers, picks and knives.I'm still at 449 after crafting over 50 of these.
I made the mistake of making the goggles first.Don't make that mistake yourselves.Wait on making your goggles until 449.You won't regret it like I regret making 10 of these at 449 without a skillup.
Thank you Blizzard for making the only economical way to level to 450 cost us so much potential gold.
That was sarcasm by the way.
yup same mistake here ,
Jumped on making lvl 8o epic goggles as soon as i could and screwed myself out of makin max engi .
150 saronite bars later and 3 skill points acuired making these little basters ...
All i can hope 3.1 will bring some changes to the leveling mecanic of these ,
or some new scematics to lvl with /facepalm GG /golfclap
so whats the deal with this thing if you see a mineral do u just mine it like with a mining pick? and if you need to make a simple fire does it make one automaticly if you need it? more info people please
I used this in on a druid after a wipe in Nexus, and he ended up in the Barrens. So much for wipe recovery...
Kind of curious, would this item work in arena :O?
Anyone can use this, you just can't use the jumper cables unless you're an engineer. I have one of these on all my toons... although in thelatest patch (3.1.1) you no longer need flint & tinder or wood to make campfires so the usefullness of this tool was reduced as well. I had it on all my toons so they could all make fires (with wood in bags with it). Toons that were skinners got the use of the flint and tinder as well as the skinning knife, but now that same toon may as well just have a knife. For toons I have that mine and skin this is still a space saver and it goes without saying how useful this is for an engineer.
I was only curious which is better, the army knife or the XL cables? I am guessing the XL cables are still better but wouldn't mind hearing from anyone who has tested this out.
If you double click the icon it says Swissarmyknife in it.
So,what, are Gnomes from Sweden now?
WHAT WOULD WE CALL THEM NOW? GNOMDENS OR SWEEMS?
genuine or original? that's what wanna know.
I can confirm that this works on pets, tested it a few minutes ago.
Let me voice my confusion. It's a knife that revives you. So you stab them and shock them to life, creating a burnt hole in their hopefully revived body. I think I'd rather stay dead cuz stab shocking does really sound like a good way to rez
Now all it needs is a mount vendor and we're good...
Don't downgrade my comment but...is there a way that I saw something nearly similar to this thing at BC ?
Think its 100% succes now! 4 tries so far, and all ressed!
it also has fuzzy handcuffs
EDIT: forgot one thing well im a gnome gnomish engineer so. IF YOURE GONNA BE JUDGEMENTAL ABOUT GNOMISH CULTURE YOU CAN JUST MAKE YOUR OWN!
Nice little handy tool you could use like if your in a instance & tank and healers die (if your a hunter Feigh Death or rogue vanish) you could zap healer back to life
TBH this really needs
One of THESE!
Strangely, it lacks
Does not work if you have 350 engineering but are not a Grand Master.
They probably didn't at the fishing pole as well, because you normally need to equip the fishing pole to fish, and all other stuff like skinning knife, mining pick, blacksmith hammer, ect. you can just use without equiping.
By Kingrames on 11/19/2008 (Patch 3.0.3)
Just so you could finally answer the immortal question, "HOW I MINE FOR FISH?11"Last edited by
The same immortal question you've got with the other stuff (How I mine for leather, How I mine for 'blacksmithstuff' / 'engineeringstuff', How I mine for cooking fires...) xD
weird, before the patch, it was rare for the knife not to work, but since the patch has gone live, i think i've been able to get them to work once. came by here to see if anything has changed...
So maybe just complete coincidence butt I have used this to attempt to res many people and so far out of maybe 200 uses I can't seem to remember a time that they have failed when using on a gnome. Did blizzard throw some little hidden secret in there for the use of these on gnomes or dose mine in particular just like the little people? If there is some hidden 100% res a gnome there just think of all the Gnome priest coming in the expansion. Because besides me there probably are not too many people that try these out on gnomes anyway since you would normally go for the healer first.
) cast in 4 sec!
Standard ress spells cast in 10 sec.
This can be used when you have less than 10 sec out of combat like in HoR between trash waves
My Engineer is also my hunter and this item can be used to Ress pets despite them not being players, I tested this myself by letting my pet get whacked and then BZZZCRAK ITS ALIVE! Engineering helps and saves mana once again.
Hail Terry Pratchett
Hold on, why does a knife have a battery? What is it used for before you overload it?
These dont even work.
I would like to see them add
to this item, then it truly would be an inventory saver.
I heard that if there is more than one Grand Master Engineer in your group, you could pass it around in case your attempt fails or there's more than one person to rez. Does anyone know if this is still true?
Somehow I feel that the chance for these to succeed are higher now than before. In the past few days I've had 100% success in dungeons and raids, whereas I used to fail consistently a few months ago. Any ideas?
i can confirm that you need to have the grandmaster engineering training (thus lv65 min) and not just have lv350+ engineering to use the jumper cables option.
Snagged one off the AH for 1g 48s and haven't looked back. A must if you're an engineer/miner.
The Zapthrottle Mote Extractor should be included in it, if they're trying to conserve space might as well go for it.
These haven't worked once for me since the release of Cata, am I the only one with a huge string of bad luck? :(
I don't think i've gotten this thing to rez someone at all since cata.
Edit: It worked once! Hooray!
So this requires 10 bars of the unholy metal Saronite, which is 20 chunks of evil Yogg-Saron Old God blood.
So the entire Gnomish army is carrying brain-warping evil in their pockets and spreading it across the world in the form of cheap mail-order utility gadgets.
... Yep. Sounds about right.
The screenshot of this item is a really good 3D model.
The secreat life of gnomes and there inventions
"Attempt." So revival can fail?
Don't know if anyone already had this problem, but...
Today I stumbled upon a random player corpse in Booty Bay, just near the bank. Once I finished using the knife and defibrillation effect went through the Booty Bay Bruisers went crazy and one-shot me for no apparent reason other than trying to ressurect someone.
I know this thread might be dead....but does any1 know what the percentage is on the rez? I have done maybe 25-30 times on my 525 blood elf engineer and not a single success. any suggestions?
wooot for the gathering bonus, great addition
This works as a hunter battle res.
possibly night elves and rogues too
1. Dismiss pet
2. If in a raid or heroic, check your DBM in case of boss aoe damage. Combat or damage will cancel the effect
3. Feign Death in range of your intended target and use the knife the moment you leave combat
4. Hope it doesn't fail
It worked for me many times in ICC, and currently working for me in dragon soul heroics. Too bad this secret will be pointless with MoP Pet battle res.
Will be a great way to make gold in MoP, these are going to give you a +10 to your gathering ability for herbalism, mining and skinning so for any AH goblins out there: STOCK UP NOW
Comme Mists Of Pandaria expansion, this thing will add 10 to mining, herbalism and skinning.
That right, leveling Herbalists will want this thing.
Lots of fun changes with this item in Mists of Pandaria. Generally speaking, it will replace the main item used in some professions.
NEW things it can do:
- provides the +10 skill bonus that you'd normally get from a
- provides the +10 skill bonus that you'd normally get from a
- provides the +10 skill bonus that you'd normally get from a
- counts as a
Things its always done:
- counts as a
- counts as a
. Also brings back the dead.
Things it still can't do:
- does not replace
- does not replace
- does not replace
(Mining, Skinning, and Fishing no longer require any item. The Mining Picks and Skinning Knives now provide +10 skill if you carry one, as well as the newly added Herbalist's Spade. The army knife stands in for those and provides that bonus.)
Although these new profession items do not stack with
, etc, they work in the same way that the racial bonuses do, in that they do not change the potential skillups that you will get. (A mob/node that gives a skillup will not go grey if you put this in your bags). They merely change the upper range of your ability to gather.
the new +10 bonus, doesn't stack with gatherer (and herbalist's gloves) -.-
In case obvious isnt obvious, this includes a mining pick and skinning knife. Even though the item tooltip doesn't mention either of those.
Apparently, this acts as a jeweler's kit also... or maybe Draenei don't need one... idk, but I'm making gems without a jeweler's kit with this thing in inventory
As of the Mists release, this now includes a Back Scratcher, Nose Picker and "Whirly Thing". Now, you too can pick your nose with an implement made from the
forged blood of an Old God!
Would be cool if it could be used in combat...when everyone with a level 25 guild can res, engineers should at least get a chance to battle rez.
I just crafted this on my Death Knight and it does place itself in a mining bag if you use one like I do, it also fits in an engineering bag if you carry one of those around
I hope they add some sort of
micro sewing machine
in WoD, for my tailor :D
new to Warlord's of Draenor is introducing a Battle Resurrection update to this item.
Update: Appears this may no longer be true going by latest tooltip data. Which brings the question, what is the new Gnomish Army Knife actually going to offer that this one does not?
If this is in your inventory, ore nodes will grey out at 690, preventing you from hitting your mining cap. Take it out of your inventory, and they become green again, and you can start getting skill ups.
Is it just me or is this item very unreliable when rezzing someone? I have attempted to rez someone 6 times in a row with it and it hasn't worked.
So, I'm not to sure how long it's been like this, or if it's a bug, but I have been able to use this on characters who are NOT engineers, to Rezz people, successfully, for the past 2 months.
Does this still work in BFA?
tooltip says it works as a jeweler's kit. it doesn't. I reported it as a bug, but I'm pretty sure they won't bother fixing it.
