This dropped for us in naxx25 from Heigan on 9/29/2008.
This drop is what i believe to be a possible Tier 7.5 set?
The full visual set can be viewed in my link
It looks somewhat ZA'esqe and i think it could make a good stand for DK tanking gear... Though not having played DK yet i cannot gaurantee my beliefs.
With no Block rating on it I think Death Knight Tanks should have priorty on this, rather than Paladins and Warriors.
What Shield users go for.
Bottom line for T7 chest-wearing paladin tanks: Think twice before taking this piece. I won this during my first visit to Naxxramas 25, and now wish I'd had the foresight to pass it on to another plate wearer.
As mentioned I already had the
, gemmed and enchanted.
Comparing the two
on both and
Solid Sky Sapphire
Enduring Forest Emerald
in the T7 piece, Tormented Rage has +12 defense rating (in my case, +2 DEF due to rounding and/or diminished returns), +3 STA, -5 STR, +36 hit rating, and 72 dodge rating instead of 53 block rating (including the 6 socket bonus)/59 block value. (I'd also lose the T7 two-piece bonus but did not mention it above as that won't apply to everyone.)
In my case, gaining dodge but losing block rating means I lose 1.44% in combined avoidance/mitigation toward the block cap in my raid-gear set, and 1.36% in my block-cap set. Yes, hit rating isn't bad, but I'd already built a very nice hit-cap tank set (which I've yet to use once, actually) and adding this only gained me 300 net health.
All in all, disappointing considering this is a 213-iLevel heroic-raid drop.
however. As a DK tank this is the best chest in the game bar none. the only thing i could ask for is more strength maybe.
For a tanking Death Knight there are no better options. Unless you are chasing setbonuses from T7.5 gear (and Im not sure why you would to be honest...) this is the single best tanking chest you can get.
Solid Stamina, good Defense and a pile of pure Avoidance from Dodge on top of that. It doesnt even rely on excessive gemming to get the most out of it; any item with gemslots requires significant investment to bring it up to the standard of gemless pieces.
In terms of pure stats. This is the best in slot tanking item for Both Warriors and Deathknights. When Comparing this to the Warriors t7.5 you sacrifice 9 stam(if gemming 2 16 stams) for over 20 points dodge rating and a few points in defense rating. You lose out on shield block rating but gain hit rating.
Overall. This is an AMAZING chest.
What? This is best for paladins to, SBR is junk to me, I have no problem being 102.7....Id much rather have avoidence than SBR.
Yea your on the same page as me. I was also looking at Chestguard of the Exausted from Grobbulus tho....They have the same STR, and armour. Stat difference other than that are
*Torm: 1.83% Exaust: 1%
*Torm: 1.1% Exaust: 0%
Torm: 150 NO SOCKETS
*Exaust: 126 2x8DR/12STA gems 150+9bonus--159
*Exaust: 67+16(From Socket) 83
So we lost hit(not to big a deal for pallies, doesnt hurt to have some tho....but chances are you got around 100 maybe more full naxx 25) we lost 0.83 avoid....GAIN 25 DR and personaly ive been having an issue with this, wasting enchants and sockets on it....Id very welcome the 25 DR, thats a full DR socket and a half I can drop(maybe change another 16 DR to 8+12 stam) and we gain 9 stamina.
So You could really look at it as a 45 stamina boost since you can resocket, at the trade of 0.83 avoid and the hit rating..Personaly im just grabbing what I can get first and will continue to pass on my t7.5 for the guild. I would prefer this chest, but wouldnt mind the Exhausted chestguard at all, I like sockets to play with...
I disagree that the Tier 7-10 is better; I'm a believer in pure avoidance over block and in being hit capped as a tank (yes, even as a pally tank. *gasp* Blasphemy! I know!)
Why is hit rating important for a pally tank? Example: Four Horsemen. It's time to swap Baron and Thane in the front. Your offtank taunts. Your own Hand of Reckoning misses. Now your offtank has 4 or 5 stacks of Baron's debuff (plus 1 of Thane's) while you wait 8 seconds for Hand of Reckoning to cool down. Meanwhile your DPS can't do anything because they, too, all have 3 stacks of Thane's debuff, so they're waiting in the corner. Meanwhile the people heal-tanking in the back are forced to endure an extra, perhaps, 30 crucial seconds while you get the situation back under control. Straight up, it's the kind of "bad luck" that leads to a wipe.
Being hit capped means your "taunt" abilities never miss.
There's a definite security in knowing that. I get warm fuzzies just thinking about it.
And who knows, maybe Blizzard will let us off the hook and update the
Glyph of Righteous Defense
to make it include Hand of Reckoning too. (Wouldn't that be nice?) But until then, I'm stacking as much well-budgeted hit rating as I can get my hands on.
Why is dodge and parry sometimes better than block? Yeah. It's true, block currently is unaffected by Diminishing Returns, so point for point, it gives you more "avoidance", on paper. My "avoidance macro" tells me I'm over 102.4% combined (which is unhittable) with Holy Shield active. Great. Good. Fine and dandy.
Now go try tanking Patchwerk on heroic and tell me blocking most of his
made one damn bit of difference. Now imagine if you could trade a chunk of that block rating for a couple percent more dodge. So now once in a while, instead of hitting you for 26000 (including 1700 blocked), it misses you altogether because you dodged. I know which one I'd prefer. Block rating is the bomb when you're solo farming or tanking moderate damage instances. It's even great for most trash.
But the harder they hit, the more and more worthless blocking becomes.
I understand what Blizzard is trying to do here, they're trying to build a niche for us. "
Ok, paladins are the block masters.
Maybe they'll come out with a boss who attacks 20 times per second for 2000 damage a hit. Then we'll stand on our little pedestal and we'll be worshipped in our Tier 7 far and wide, as the rightful Gods of Block Rating.
But the unfortunate reality is that most heroic bosses hit hard. Very hard. And on high-damage fights, pure avoidance is better than block mitigation. And that's why I prefer
Breatplate of Tormented Rage
Heroes' Redemption Breastplate
this chest piece is inferior to other similar cause the stats aren't much better from other pieces and a major drawback is that it has 0 gem slots
Any warrior/Paly tank should be easily unhittable (this is all hits are at least blocked) when raid buffed. The 72 dodge on this is just awesome. With this and other Gear, I am just under 60% to miss, dodge or parry any attack, and the rest is blocked while still maintaining about 40khp when raid buffed. Until they buff block value, it is just not worth gearing for. Because of this I think it is the best in slot before the T8.5 chest for at pallys anyway, Thats what I know best. Block rating can come from other items.
Remember when you get raid buffs, your avoidance goes up.
