This item is the next step after
Mote of Air
Anyone know if these can be extracted by an engineer.
Like the motes of air could?
elements are the
's equivalent to
Mote of Air
In the same way,
Like in the
, 10 lesser elements (
) can be turned into a greater one (
A greater (
) element can then be turned back into ten lesser elements (
I have found Enraged Tempest's and they drop these.
Also, near them are Fire and Water elementals. I have killed some of each and have confirmed that they drop the corrisonding Crystallized materials (Air, Fire, Water).
This is basically the new Elemental Plateu from Nagrand
Thanks to my handy-dandy
Zapthrottle Mote Extractor
I have been extracting Crystallized Air and
from the Arctic Clouds floating above the frozen waterfall near the border of Howling Fjord/Grizzly Hills located between Camp Winterhoof and Fort Wildervar.
The spawn for the clouds seems to be fairly fast, (as I typed this up, a couple of clouds have come back) and they are fairly close together. I believe there are six clouds total, in groups of twos, at each tier of the frozen waterfall.
(Thanks Criyos, forgot some may not know about my favorite item)
EDIT: This post was made during the beta, and there were concentrations of clouds... whereas now the clouds are much more spread out around the zones.
Howling cyclones in howling fjord also drop crystallized air
best way to farm
is from mining
100% chance to drop off
from Lake Wintergrasp. From what I've found, they mostly spawn in the southern regions below the towers. Note that you can only see Revenants if your faction has control of Lake Wintergrasp.
Each Elemental Revenant in Wintergrasp has a 100% drop chance of their perspective crystallized elements. The mob list of Revenants is as follows:
- Can be found spread around the land areas.
- Found mostly in the charred southeastern area on the map.
- Unconfirmed but I've found them mostly in the south.
- Can be found swimming under or above water areas.
- Found mostly in the Forest of Shadows to the southwest.
I haven't found any revenants for Crystallized Life, I believe there are none. Lashers in the southwest, grassy area have a chance to drop them however.
I farm these from the Scions of Storm in The Howling Hollow cave in Storm Peaks. The cave is full of the Scions and nothing else. Sometimes they drop two at a time. I would say at about a 30% drop rate.
If you are a miner there are at least 5 saronite spawns and possible titainium in this cave.
Just hope you have more luck than i did...30+ mobs and no motes
It feels like the drop rate has been lowered on these, I just killed 75 steam ragers in scalding pools in borean, and only got 8 motes, a week ago i was getting a solid 35% droprate over thousands of kills, my mobinfo addon still says 32 and 35% depending on the addon, but im just killing these over and over and getting almost nothing
I hope this hasnt been nerfed because its been my main source of income for my lvl 80 rogue, ive sold hundreds of eternal airs
EDIT: I take it back, i must have just had an unlucky streak, over the next 20 kills i got enough motes for 2 eternals, seems like the droprate is still the same, would be nice if they dropped silver coin as well
The entrance to The Howling Hollow is in Storm Peaks at approximately 66, 42.
The Scion of Storm drop Crystallized Air frequently, and also drop Relics of Ulduar (soon to be BOE and used for The Sons of Hodir rep).
Alliance beware: the Horde seem to have a quest in this cave.
Patch 3.0.3, just killed
115 Steam Ragers
in Borean Tundra (scalding pools), got 35 Crystallized Air,
drop rate 31%
. Mobs are spread out, no patrols.
So it's easy enough but still takes a while compared to the higher-level air elementals.
The "Reagent for" tab shows that it requires 9 Crystallized Air to create an Eternal Air, however the way Blizzards spell works is a little misleading.
of the Crystallized Air's which casts a spell that requires another 9 to create an Eternal. It requires 10 in total.
I play on Undermine-US. One of the problems our server faces is being vastly outnumbered by the Alliance (1:4 H:A Ratio, last time I checked). This means that almost every day, we don't control Wintergrasp...unless some momentous effort is organized by a guild or something. This usually means that we have to get a bit more inventive with farming, especially with a guild as small as mine. While questing in the Storm Peaks, I found a good farm spot for Crystallized Air.
North of the Tunka'Lo Village, there are two caves. One of those caves is the burial grounds of the Tunka'Lo and further north is a cave where a certain mob (Scion of Storm) drops both Crystallized Air and Relics of Ulduar. Great place to get good items, and the drop rates seem fairly stable.
The camp NE of camp winterhoof in howling fjord is devoid of any arctic clouds... so you'll have to go elsewhere with your mote extractor. As of patch 3.0.8.
Note that you can also place these on your action bars, to make it easier to keep track of them/convert them to eternals.
Just checked. As of 9-1-10 (3.3.5), the Scion of Storm dudes do not drop ANY crystallized air. This place is bunk.
Killed about 30 so far, not a single air.
Random drops are random. I spent half an hour and got enough for 3 eternals + some 16g trash and half a bag of greens. Sometimes you're lucky and other times you're not.
I know this explanation exists elsewhere in other comment-sections, but anyways:
Drop is random. Since this mob has a 26% chance of dropping the crystallized air, it means that for every 100 Scion of Storm that you kill, you should get around 26 drops of crystallized air. To kill 30 mobs and then say: "this isn't dropping anymore"... You simply killed 30 of the 74 non-dropping mobs in the 100-mob sample. Even if you killed 100 mobs and nothing dropped, it'd still be possible that they drop the air, you'd just be a bit unlucky. Remember, 26% drop chance means that most of the times, the mobs WONT drop what you want.
QFT, just spent 15-20min farming 21g profite, 3 eternals, 1 green and 29 relics.
And tbh most of the mobs I killed didn't drop any, but when they did it was 2-3 per.
No, you are "Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong-o"
<le sigh> I wish people would verify their information before posting.
As of the patch before 4.01 the Scion of Storms drop crystallized fire only. Drop rate is still good, but no crystallized air is being dropped.
I always farm my air in Howling Hollow and fire in Frostfloe Deep, so I was surprised to see this on wowhead. I quickly flew to Hollowing Hollow to check this out.
Moonpuppy is completely wrong! A Scion of Storm will drop crystallized air and Wailing Winds will drop crystallized fire. Confirmed! (I believe he/she was in the wrong cave)
A note on the drop rate: I killed 14 Scions before my first drop of air, but then every kill (or every second kill) was dropping the air. Drops were happening in waves rather than a 1 every 4 as one might expect.
Let me just say to those of you out there that read the comments and are apprehensive about farming if the other faction controls the area, don't be. I am horde and ally control it right now and I can see the eles. I have farmed 12 crystallized airs in a matter of 10-15 minutes no problem. The eles are all clearly visible.
If Winterspring revenants aren't available, these are farmable from the Steam Ragers in the Festering Pools and Steam Springs, just south of Fizzcrank's Airstrip in Borean Tundra. They are spread out and the drop rate isn't that great, but there are a lot of them and they are very easy to kill lvl 70 elementals. I just farmed 19 in 15 minutes.
I spent about an hour trying to farm these off the arctic clouds in storm peaks as per recommended. Tired of farming but still needing them, i flew across to Wintergrasp. 17 minutes ahead of the next batlle, I could still fly around and thought I'd try my luck. As it turns out I didn't need to venture beyond the edge; the
have a nice drop rate. I don't know percentage wise, not every one you kill drops, but often enough those that do drop 2. With a few minutes to go I hightailed it out of Wintergrasp and did a reconciliation. 2 and a bit stacks of saronite ore (farmed wherever i saw nodes), 9 titaninium ore, loads of eternal earth, and most importantly, when all combined; 3
Not as quick as buying them via frozen orbs , but if you are a "new leveling toon" on a new server without access to a main that can farm (or has a stock of) orbs, i.m.h.o. this is the next best thing.
Good Luck !
My favorite mob to farm these off of is the
in Borean Tundra. Smaller area, quick respawn, and about 30% drop rate based on a very small sample (50 mobs in 6 minutes, 16 Crystallized Air).
I was wondering about the comment about crystallized element being similiar to motes, does this mean that you can use the mote collector from engineering (sorry can't remember the name) to farm crystallized elements? EDIT: Ah nevermind, I found the answer I seeked; According to other's you can use the same mote extractor. Great news for me! :)

If you have Engineering and made yourself an
Zapthrottle Mote Extractor
you can get
Crystallized Air / Crystallized Water
's. I found most of my Arctic Clouds in Icecrown and Storm Peaks but these are so few to find.
If you are a lower level I would go and kill the
's (lvl 70/71) in
. If you are a higher level head to
and kill the
s (lvl 80 and zone makes you PvP).
I farmed 80 of these in the time it took me to drink a glass of wine by killing
s in Borean Tundra. Swift and easy.
The Alter Wardens in Zul'Drak are the best way of farming these that I've found. Roughly a 33% drop rate for a stack of 2 to 4, so it averages about one per kill. The Wardens are plentiful and respawn fairly quickly, making them a much better option than Wintergrasp.
Crystallized Air is needed (when combined into Eternal Air) to make the Engineering portable mailbox, MOLL-E
The best place I've found to farm these is the Temple to the west of Bor'Gorok Outpost in
around 45, 10.
The area is very small but packed full of
. While they have a 20-30% drop rate for motes, it is so fast and easy to 1shot farm them that it is much more efficient than farming in Wintergrasp or the Scion cave in Storm Peaks. Even more so due to the fact that the cloud they leave behind when killed grants you
which is 50% movespeed for 10s and refreshes whenever you move over a cloud. At levels where you 1shot these, you can pretty much keep that buff up 100% of the time while solo force spawning them since the npc's are attached to a quest.
Not to mention they are in the middle of an area that also has water and fire elementals with similar solo force spawn capability if you need/want to farm those.
