"It appears I've been fired. Well, while we're still on the air, you know what really grinds my gears? You, America! F**k you! Diane?"
Surely a Family guy reference.
The flavour text is blatantly obvious...
To all the people that spent houring farming instances and doing battlegrounds GRINDING GEAR, nobody cares. All your precious loot is about to replaced with the same greens that everyone else will be using.
Personally, I think it's more the fact that the abbreviation of 'Ground Gear' could be 'GG'..
So possibly; "GG, nobody cares."
Or something along those lines.
This is probably a reference to the phrase "You know what really grinds my gears?" used as a lead-in to a lengthy description of some grievance or pet peeve.
"You know what really--"
Link this item whenever someone is being annoying in trade channel.
I think this is a reference to Blizzard's view on the engineering proffession...
Not that anybody cares, but a ground gear is really a good thing. When you make a gear, depending on a few things, you may grind the gear to finish it. So a ground gear is a good thing and somebody cares...
Or maybe I just over thinking this.
It isn't 'a good thing', it just
be a good thing. Over-grinding of gears is damaging, not to mention the noise is awful.
Reminded me of that episode of Family Guy, gave me a good laugh.
-Because nobody really cares..
I sold one of these on the Auction house for 30g, very easy to farm and it gives you much money :)
My friends and I always joked and thought that this could also a reference to gear that you grinded for, as a reference to all the complaining when Burning Crusade items came out. People would whine and whine, "But I grinded rep in UBRS for weeks and weeks so I could finally get this weapon and it gets replaced by the first green--" Nobody cares!
But the Peter Griffin theory is really funny too.
Or maybe it just means that the gear is all ground down, worn smooth, useless and discarded, and you know the worst part? Nobody cares!
Life is hard when you're a cog.
i prefer to stick with the innitials of this item, i've been carrying around one for months in the old bags just for any occasion to link it... G.G. Nobody Cares it has become the motto of my dk and probably the anthem of my server.
Best. Item. Ever.
I carry one of these in my bags, and linking it is always an effective way to make people shut up. :D
Combine this with the vial of tears
and you have the perfect Trade QQ prevention devices.
PLEASE remember to use the clutch next time...
Well I do.
I cant link this in trade anymore. I guess nobody cares.
You know what grind my gears? people just downing comments for points, whats the deal with that, points are irrelevant its whats been posted that should count for something. Damn keyboard warriors! Dianne?
Peter's head is in the corner of the screen because of a Wowhead giveaway. Oh the irony....
Does anyone know if these drop anymore?
Instant response to the infamous 'You know why it is called an Xbox 360..'
I tried farming these out for about an hour on a lvl 60 with no luck. Switched to a level 30 and the greys I was getting were the same. I'll wait for more info to appear before continuing.
I went with a lvl 11 char, had Lich King timeline selected from Chromie, went to Borean Tundra to kill the Harvest Collectors, got 5 Ground Gears in about 10 minutes.
The reason to grind these are for three new pets coming in 9.01 from a vendor in Oribos. Keep in mind that these are PTR vendor items, and may or may not be implemented. That being said, here's the easiest way to farm these:
1.) For Horde, create a level 10 unlocked race, preferably a Hunter. (You'll see why later).
2.) If you don't have a race unlocked, level up a hunter to 10.
3.) In Orgrimmar, see Chromie for the "Lich King" timeline, and hop the Zep to Borean Tundra. Ride over to Variance Keep, avoiding PVP NPC's to keep from flagging up.
4.) Outside Variance Keep there are two wheat fields, with Harvest Collectors in them. One field has eight, and one has four. These collectors are YELLOW, so non-hostile until you attack.
5.) As a hunter, you can sic your pet on them for quicker kills. The Collectors drop a grey vendor trash GROUND Gear. This is ONE component the pet vendor uses for currency. The other two components are Robble's Wobbly Staff (farmed in Firelands dungeon or AH) and Very Unlucky Rock, 100% drop rate in Lucky Horace's Lucky Chest in Nazmir, ands sometimes found in the bag of fishing treasures from your faction's fishing daily.
NEXT if you are Horde:
Swim to the end of Variance Keep dock, and drown yourself! Why? Because you are going to Stormwind! Wait on the end of the dock and rezz on the boat. The NPCs won't attack, and you'll get to Stormwind with your level 10. Run onto the dock and get kacked by the guard. You'll rezz clear across the Zone (saves you riding through Westfall). Avoid Getting PVP flagged or ganked by guards, and you can get to the human starting zone for the component for a different vendor pet. You will be killing the worgs for Rabbit's Foot. Level 60's, forget it! The drop rate seems to be geared for low-level toons.
IF you are alliance, you can easily farm the Ground Gear and the Rabbit's foot by creating a toon in the human starting zone and afterwards going to Variance Keep in Borean Tundra.
DO NOT ACCIDENTLY VENDOR THE GRAYS! Stick them in the bank until you have what you need. There are NINE vendor trash items that you need to buy all three pets:
1.) Ground Gear
2.) Robble's Wobbly Staff
3.) Very Unlucky Rock
1.) Rotting Bear Carcass (Easily found in Escape from Durnhold Dungeon in the Caverns of Time)
2.) Dark Iron Baby Booties (Found in the Vault Chests you unlock in Blackrock Depths with Coffer keys looted from NPCs)
3.) The Stoppable Force (Looted from Steamvault NPCs)
1.) The aforementioned Rabbit's Foot, from the Human Starting area Worgs.
2.) Large Slimy Bone (from the Slimes inside and outside Wailing Caverns)
3.) A Frayed Knot (looted from Scarlet Friars and Scarlet Zealots Near the Scarlet Monestary) NOTE: This may be actually the most difficult item to get, as it has to be PICKPOCKETED by a Rogue! The good thing is there is no level restriction, Rogues from Level 24 (when you learn pickpocket) to level 60 can loot this item.
Keep in mind all these items can be bought on the AH, but the price will surely go up, as the drop rates in the world have been severely nerfed!
I hope this helps you pet collectors, and any corrections, hints or insights are very welcome!

Just spent an hour and a half spanking the appropriate mechanicals at both locations in the borean tundra (farm plots just north of valiance keep and the geyser fields) with an appropriately leveled character, went from lvl 32 to almost 35 and had not a single ground gear drop. Plenty of other types of gears and other flotsam, but no ground gears.
Currently used to buy the

Best way to get them at the moment is to make a fresh Allied Race character, Chromie Time them to Northrend and kill some of the
s near Farshire.
I spent a good couple of hours on a max-level character only to find that, apparently, you can't get them on max-level characters at all (or, at the very least, it's a
low drop chance). Read about the Chromie Time trick on the page for the pet, switched over to an Allied Race alt and got all three gears within five minutes!
So...spare yourself the grind and the gold on the Auction House and go Chromie Time to get these! :)

In the interest of science, I took my level 10 toon back to Org, switched to Chromie time, went back to Northrend to kill Harvest Collector, and got the same mix of Sprung Sprocket and Ground Gear.
So it doesn't matter at all whether you are in Chromie time or not. You just have to take a toon who is low-level enough.
I don't know what the bracket is where the Ground Gear drops, but level 32 is too high. I bet the desired loot bracket stops for toons that are level 30, because that's where the Cataclysm content would start, since the squish.
If you try farming the Harvest Collectors, look for Sprung Sprocket to drop, because this may indicate that you are getting drops in the bracket you need to be in, and Ground Gear should drop soon.
Confirmed my max level and level 25 could not get these drops. Found a very easy way to farm the Ground Gears. Made a Vulpera character who started at level 10. Sent a couple bags and some gold over to cover flights/mail.
Took portal from Org to Dalaran (Northrend) and flew to Borean Tundra. Ran to the The Geyser Fields. At level 10 as a mage these were fast kills and got 20 in less than an hour, dropped from all the mechanicals in the area randomly. Did not need to be on Chromie time for these drops. Not sure what level the drops will stop, other comments speculate on that.
If you are high level, run Ulduar.
Mimiron usually drops a whole lot of ground gears.
ETA: It may be that Mimiron only drops ground gears on the first (maybe second) time you loot the head.
Ground gears havent dropped in awhile. But they did drop at least once.
To confirm what others are saying: I got nothing grinding on my level 60 (including running H25 Ulduar twice), but I got 4 to drop (see screenshot) in about 20 minutes of farming on my brand new level 10 Vulpera in Borean Tundra. Easy kills and quick commute (made Horde Vulp, portal to Northrend, fly to Borean Tundra, run to Geyser Fields.)
Ran Ulduar and got
Gears instead from Mimiron fight. Fortunately a friend and I were doing together and he got the right gears. Level 10 option might be quicker from the sounds of it.
If you are farming this for the new pet, I found the simplest way is to create a lvl 10 allied race due to level bracket loot rule. If you are horde, Chromie time to LK, go to Borean Thundra, The Geyser Fields. The red alarm bots have the best drop rate, you should get 1 within 10 kills. Ally side at westfall, very simple. I started farming with lvl 24 toon, got her to 27 and not seen 1 drop, I also tried with max toon, same loot table as 24. Not sure if 15 would still have the same loot table, but 10 is your safest bet.
