I smell druid tank item.
Edit: this was supposed to be in reply to Soundfx4 above, but logging in after reply apparently botched things.
Defence rating/skill provides mitigation in the form of slightly increased chance to block, dodge and parry and it also provides a reduced chance to be critically hit.
It is of course desirable to become immune to critical hits. This, in PvE, typically (there are a few mobs that have higher crit chances) requires 5% + 0.2% per level difference, ie 5.6% for a level 73 mob (eg raid boss). This is reached by 490 defence for warriors, which is why this number is often cited as a minimum defence skill for warrior tanks (it is also sometimes incorrectly referred to as a cap - this is not the case, although it is usually more beneficial to stack other attributes than defence once crit immunity has been reached).
For druids the numbers are different (I believe it is 415) and as druids cannot block (and possibly cannot parry either?) there is less mitigation in defence for them.
Resilience also reduces the chance to be critically hit, and you get more crit reduction for less points (since you do not get the mitigation). So resilience can be used to bridge the gap to reach crit immunity if you cannot get there through defence alone, eg because you lack gear or because you are wearing resistance gear for a specific encounter. Unlike defence resilience provides virtually no benefit once you have reached crit immunity. But it can serve as a filler in some scenarios.
would make an awsome PvP cloak too for any melee class (armor aside ofc. ) :D
Druid tanking item. unfortunately its not as good as the semi-easy to obtain silkk's cloak and this boss is a pain in the rear to kill (as a matter of fact, druid tanks are probably the worst of the three as well because of zero magic mitigation). If you get this item, itll just be a delay item until you get the badges. which sucks, they could have put in a druid tanking piece into any number of other spots to be an upgrade going into t4 but chose to do it to a item slot that already has a ton of progression to gearing.
a bear tanking shoulder better than S1 shoulders would have been a very welcome addition for instance
I'm not going to debate that is
a great druid tanking cloak, because it obviously is but I doubt it's the only purpose of it, or even the reason it was made.
This is an entry level PvP cloak for any class.
With the advent of tanking gear itemized with more avoidance and/or crush prevention stats, the resilience on this cape may make up the critical prevention difference for many who find themselves sub-490 or sub-415 defense. Additionally, I believe this is the cape that grants one of the highest marginal EH in the game.
Crushing blows ´<> Critical strikes?
like players crit you and resili helps on that
mobbs CB you and not a damm thing about resili can help it?
(just askin becouz thats what i spend the last year thinking)
If any of you have full pvp gear... go and fight a normal 70 mob, open your combat log and see if it ever crits you in bear form with +300 resilience. Resilience is for player crits only, mobs will not be effected by resilience at all. Every piece of pvp gear has more stam in general than its pve "item level" counterpart. You would be able to tank entirely in pvp gear if resilience mitigated crits in pve in any way.
You are absolutely wrong. Please go read up on Defense and Resilience.
Critical Hit immunity for a level 70 player against a raid boss occurs at 490 Defense and requires a defense rating of 330.4 from gear to achieve. Most classes have talents that increase the defense skill or reduce critical hit chance so less than 330.4 defense rating from gear will be needed for critical hit immunity.
Critical Hit immunity for a level 70 player against a raid boss can also be achieved by a Resilience of 5.6% and requires a resilience rating of 220.64 to achieve.
The critical hit % reduction from Defense and Resilience % may be combined to reduce the chance of being critically hit by a raid boss by 5.6% making the player immune to critical hits.
1% Resilience will:
Reduce chance to be crit by 1%
Reduce damage from all crits by 2%
Reduce damage from DoTs by 1%
39.4 resilience rating per 1% resilience at level 70
no one's mentioned that the armor was reduced from the PTR so discussions above about 2200+ armor are moot. I forget the old number , but seem to recall it was in the 425 range. Now that it's 387 in live, it really doesn't come close to gilded or slikk's for bears.
FFs this thing never drops! I've been doing 10-11 normal runs and still hasn't droped!
Am i so ulucky or this droprate is wrong?
Just to set the record straight. Slikk's Cloak of Placation is hand's down the best tanking cloak in the game for every tanking class, Druid, Paladin, Warrior. Top it all off with that it's hands down, the easiest of the cloaks you're discussing to acquire and the entire argument about this being a druid tanking cloak are moot. If you don't have Slikk's Cloak of Placation and you call yourself a tank, you should be ashamed of yourself. That aside, you can't say make sensationalist claims that this beats Gilded any way when that just isn't realistic. Based on a damage mitigation alone, gilded provides approximately .64% more damage avoidance at the sacrifice of 8 armor and 14.8 health. 24 Defense rating provides approximately .4% dodge/miss/crit reduction, while the resilience on this cloak that you swear by only provides .56% damage reduction in the form of crit reduction. Both cloaks are, in fact, superior to this one. Resilience is not better than defense, point for point and whoever gave you such a ridiculous misinformation clearly has no idea what they're talking about. Defense is the primary increase in avoidance for all tanks, second only to shield block rating increase but only providing partial damage reduction. The only reason bear tanks should choose to use resilience over defense is when they cannot find said gear. It is not mandatory by any means.

You obviously don't have a grasp of tanking mechanics for druids.
Resilience is the best stat for crit immunity for bears, because a bear gains nothing from defense apart from crit immunity and doge - and agility is by far the best way to stack dodge for a bear.
A Druid doesn't get to parry or block, and should go for resilience over defense whenever possible, because resilience will get you more crit immunity for less itempoints - which means you get more stamina and agility (your other vital stats) as well as armor for the same itembudget.
After you reach 2.6% crit reduction (with 3/3 SotF) you only need worry about stamina and agility for avoidance. AP for threat will come naturally when you use any feral tanking weapon - be that earthwarden, staff of the forest lord, or wildfury greatstaff.
I actually think this is a nice cloak for pvp healers if you dont feel like spending 60 badges. Stamina is always welcome and the resilience aswell.
also it looks cool :D!
It's really not the best tanking cloak for a druid in sunwell. The fact that it has resil rather than defense pretty much determines this. Defense is better than resilience for reaching the anti-crit cap for a druid. Here is math supporting that:
According to wowwiki (all numbers for druids):
2.36 defense rating = 1 defense skill = 0.04% chance to not be crit, 0.04% chance to dodge and 0.04% chance to be missed => you need 59 defense rating to reduce your chance to be crit by 1%
59 defense rating / 2.36 => 1% dodge, 1% to be missed
39.5 resilience rating is required to reduce the chance to be crit by 1%
So 40 resilience rating. That leaves 19 item points to be (ideally) reallocated to agility. 19/14.7 = 1.2925% chance to dodge.
So considering that a mob missing you is pretty much equivalent to you dodging an attack, as either results in no damage taken:
This means that in a perfect stat distribution, agility + resilience= 1.2925/2 = ~65% as effective as just defense for avoiding incoming damage.
This calculation does not take into account the fact that the 19 agility will scale with Kings and SotF. Taking these into account yields: 19*1.03*1.1 = 21.527 agility => 1.4644% chance to dodge. Even with this taken into account, resil+agi gives 73.22% the avoidance as pure defense.
The agi/resil method will also give you about 40 armor in bear form (completely trivial) and ~.86% chance to crit, which will help with threat a bit.
These calculations also do not take into account how blizzard is resolving decimals (eg truncating decimals down to the next lowest integer), but I don't think that could make up for the level of deficiency that resil/agi is seeing.
So compare this to Silkk's. In Dire bear form this cloak has:
-0.29% chance to be crit
You're saying that 0.29% anti-crit (roughly 17 item points) and 225 armor (far from needed to cap at the level of gear found in sunwell) is worth 1.86% avoidance and 6 stamina... I find myself disagreeing rather strongly.
And the large majoirty of sunwell ferals I've talked to either still use the badge of tenacity on the basis that it's the single best druid mitigation trinket in the game, or they have replaced it with the Shadowmoon Insignia to free up defense requirements. The shard of contempt is a threat trinket, and as a feral I very rarely find myself lacking in the threat department.
EDIT: That's not to say this cloak doesn't have it's uses, it's great for a feral who is still gearing up and doesn't have silkk's yet, and it's a great item to use in resist sets where you still want to be at the anti-crit cap (I use it in my illidan FR set, for example)
i can download this item ? how i can download this item pls help
Excellent PvP warrior cape, and any other class can use this too. NOT A DRUID CLOAK.
Matches T2 Rogue perfectly
This looks great with death knight tier seven.
I was on a quest for the blackest looking cloak I could find for Transmogging and so far this is the best I've come across.
Black Cloak List
Notice that most have bright borders whereas this one has a slim blood-red fringe...nice.
Does anyone know if this cloak is still in the game?
I went through my back appearances and searched for this item.
I don't have it and it doesn't appear as something I could collect, either.
