Requires Exalted reputation with the Shattered Sun Offensive.
An excellent shield for Protection Paladins. Nothing is worse than having your Avenger's Shield miss!
Melee hit rating is useful for helping AS/HoW land, and for landing melee hits so SoR can proc or SoV can get a chance to stack.
Spell hit impacts each judgement you throw, SoV stack chance, the first Consecration tick(which apparently can be resisted), Exorcism, partial resists, etc.
Melee hit has a lower miss on bosses than spell hit does(9% vs 16%). So 95 MH and 164 SH to be capped on a 73.
Both are useful in terms of helping out threat by eliminating resists/misses, so conceivably you should be looking to stack both MH and SH.
This shield is good because it is focused on threat and a good chunk of crush mitigation. Depending on the rest of your gear, it gives you the option to free up stats/reitemize elsewhere for greater overall gain.
This shield is very good for tankadin, but not for all.
Spell damage, spell hit rating are very powerful in fight where more threat is needed, and where Boss not hit very hard.
Bosses like Void Reaver, Leotheras or Murloc's tanking on Morogrim need only great threat generation!
For a threat generation set, this shield is a MUST for a tankadin!
In terms of itemizing a paladin, it is important to consider the availability stats to all equipment slots. ie.. there are no good spell damage/avoidance weapons in the game.
What this means is that as a paladin you are going to have to choose either a mitigation weapon or a spell damage weapon. In general most paladins agree that the best route to take is to take a completely 'caster oriented' weapon and stack mitigation/avoidance on the other armor slots.
The same might be said about spell damage trinkets/Tanking Trinkets.
The PvP shields should be seriously considered here over Sunward crest for raid tanks that are already uncrushable without a shield with mitigation, the additional armor/block/stam from a PvP shield are far more valuable than getting extra block rating, the first of the stats to move off the hit table as you increase in avoidance.
While the sunwell grants the anti-dodge aura to the mobs which means you need a much higher avoidance, I think that you would still benefit more from a PvP shield's block/armor since the mobs in sunwell haven't had a boost in damage over other raid content like BT (to prevent spiky damage for healers).
people seem to ingore the fact that this could also be used for elemental shammies. I replaced my Draenei Honor Guard Shield with this and ive already noticed the upgrade as i have around 330 more health (tauren racial), more armor, more spell damage, more block, plus the extra spell hit. The only downside is less mana and spell crit, but im willing to give up that much for above reasons.
which one is better for tankadins? This one or dawnforged defender? I'd say dawnforged defender because its overall avoidance stats are better.
As a protection Paladin, you might as well buy this as well as the
, since they're both unlocked at the same rep level. Use this shield for 5-mans (as a threat item) and use the other in raids for mitigation.
as a prot pally i find little to no use for this shield , i destroyed mine 24 hours after getting it an got the dawnforged def.
with all the stats ect every keeps talking about im talking from actually field testing.
the dawn forged gives better avoidance and if you already have a glad gavel your not lacking in spell dmg for threat. I can use avengers shield to pull throw down 1 consecrate and hold aggro NP in karra and ZA. unfortunately nothing better has droped for me yet but for now from a pally point of veiw id take the dawnforged over this and sac the spell dmg
One nice thing about this item is that you can get a lot of them once you have the rep, for just a little gold. So, a tankadin might buy seven of these and....
Put a shield spike on one, for AoE grinding.
Put +15 block rating on another, for AoE raid tanking (good for when Holy Shield charges get burned up).
Put +18 block value on a third, for most boss tanking.
Put +18 stamina on a fourth, for boss fights with large damage spikes.
Put +12 intellect on the fifth, for five-man runs where your biggest problem is running out of mana.
Put +5 resist all on the sixth, for magic damage fights.
Put +12 resilience on the seventh, so you can do PvP for your gladiator weapon.
Such a nice model for such a crappy shield :(
I would think Patch 3.0 changes the field when comparing the Dawnforged Defender with this shield.
Spell Damage isn't the most straightforward way to get threat anymore, though this shield still holds higher threat than the other.
But the real thing to consider is that being uncrushable isn't *as* important as it used to be, as you can't be crushed by 'normal' bosses which are only +3 levels above you.
Does that make the Dawnforged Defender a better overall shield, then?
With the focus on strength these days, the extra block rating is great for mitigation.
this is a really beautiful shield! best model there is, imo
With Transmogrification coming, I'll have my eye on either this shield or
for my lowbie belf prot warrior.
Since the introduction of transmogrification, this shield has become highly desirable for paladins since it beautifully fits with many of their armor sets. Thankfully, grinding to exalted with Shattered Sun Offensive is not that difficult.
This is a shield that every blood elf paladin wish to own.
Looks great with
Can someone give tips on one-handed weapons that goes well with this shield for transmog? I'm currently using Lawbringer T1 and it works very well together, I just can't think of any really golden tanking weapons as for 1h sword, mace and axe?
This shield goes with this:
Collect whole Lightbringer Raiment including waist and boots. Get this shield and tabard from Shattered Sun Offensive. Get Light's Justice for weapon and wear Dar'toon's Cloak. .....u will feel like a real paladin :p
If you want a nice and sexy outfit for your female paladin or warrior check out the following items together. I think it would also look nice on a death knight but in that case you'd have to replace the shield.
I called the outfit
(for them your character needs to be blacksmith but I guess there are other shoulder pieces you can choose instead)
This shield, IMO, is well worth taking the time to get. It looks amazing with the
and goes perfectly with
best shield ever
As this is the perfect shield to go with the , I thought how awesome it would be to have this for my paladin. Then I realised: I didn't level my paladin to 70 by the end of TBC, so she doesn't even have any
rep, let alone exalted.
But I also remembered that back then, I got exalted with all seven of my level 70 toons; including a shaman. Thank goodness for the Legion wardrobe!
One thing to keep in mind with the new Transmog System. This shield requires Exalted with the Shattered Sun Offensive to use the appearance. So buying it on an alt will not unlock the shield for transmog unless you have the rep to go with it. Time to grind...
is a perfect match
How much rep can you get per day for Shattered Sun Offensive right now in BfA?
Times like these I regret making my priest and her limited weapon holding abilities the one with the Shattered Sun Offensive reputation.
I would be like oh well but I know I'm going to bamboozle myself into farming the rep on my paladin.
