Good news ! You're supposed to get new patterns like directly in your mail from Great Father Winter himself. Bad news, nobody exactly knows how to get them.

We're currently investigating this matter—quite avidly, to be brutally honest—and hope to reach a solid answer shortly; until then, we will be unable to directly assist any players who have not yet received Winter Veil patterns or recipes, as we must establish baseline requisites before providing such items to the public.

Once more, you have my most sincere apologies for leading you astray; nonetheless, our intent has not changed—we still wish to ensure that all those deserving of these patterns and recipes acquire them—though our method of "attack" has altered slightly for the time being.

This pattern is available via the Smokeywood Pastures vendor in Orgrimmar (possibly other major cities too), along with the boots pattern and the cider recipe. The pattern is bind on pickup.

I just got back from Christmas, and went and opened all my presents on all six of my level 60+ characters. (All Alliance.) In the package that had the Greench and the Preserved Holly, I also received this pattern. I got it on my 64 warlock, who does not have tailoring, but it's boe, so I sent it over to my tailor. Kinda wish I had gotten this earlier, when green winter clothes were selling for 70g on our AH.

This pattern IS available for purchase to both factions - confirmed as of 12/16/08.

A warrior friend and myself (priest) shielded up and ran in to snatch up the recipe. She is the 2nd goblin you'll see right near the AH (the one closest to the AH doors).

Note: make sure you have enough cash to spare on whichever toon you're going to run in on. The pattern costs 50s and you'd be better off spamming it a few times to make sure you grab one whilst the guards/hordies rip you apart like a present on Xmas morning.

If you happen to die while in pursuit (run out along the buildings on the lefthand side if possible and you can rez behind them on ledges, out of view of most horde.

This IS obtainable by Ally, as the vendor is Smokeywood Pastures (as stated by Virah) I did as my Lock, with a hunter (76 - 76).. oh, and if you are suicidal enough to try, good luck..

Just got the pattern on my Alliance tailor, who happens to be a rogue. She's only 63, and I died like 50 times, but I was able to get it, and the RFC achievement while I was there.

My tip, if you die right at the goblin's feet,wait till there are no patrolling guards, and then you can rez just behind her. If you're quick about your purchase, you can get it. Remember this to make it quick, the pattern is in the lowermost right hand corner of the vendor window on the first page! Unless she gains more items that are limited quantity, I think it should always be there.

Tip number two, remember the pattern is Bind on Pickup so don't waste your time bringing in your epic geared level 80 warrior tank who isn't a tailor...

Tip three, if you're having trouble figuring out just where to go, scout the place while you're dead. If you're close enough to her, she should show up, even if you can't rez next to her. Then you can mark a path out in your mind.

Tip four, if you're not a rogue or a druid, and you lack a stealth, you will most likely be attempting to use a mount. In fact, I suggest it for getting as close as you can on your first run in. Though you'll probably not have time to remount when rezzing. Then it's just run as far as you can before the guards destroy you.

These tips are mostly for those who are not 80, and may not be epic geared, and are attempting to solo this little adventure. Of course...what would be best is to have a nice level 80 raid-geared tank come along and hold all the aggro and kill off the horde players while you casually stroll up to Ms. Pennypinch and purchase your pattern on your tailor

This is not impossible...just very time consuming and a bit hard on the patience. Good luck!

Successfully - and fairly quickly - grabbed this as Alliance on my 37 Frost Mage. I imagine the same technique would work for a pally (or any other class with an "oh $#!&" button like bubble/block), and the same concept would probably work for any Horde trying to get the red pattern in IF...

1. Get 2 or 3 Invisibility Potion and fly to your closest known FP. I went to Ratchet and ran up the coast to ORG. Stay off the roads (obviously) - you'll run into less opposing players/guards/pats.

2. When you're as close to the front gate as you can get without aggroing anything, take the first Invisibility Potion and run right through the doors! You should be able to get most of the way to the end of the hallway before it wears off. Don't go out into the open yet though! Stay in - you'll see why in the next step - and expect to be killed promptly.

3. Run back from Spirit Healer (they put you in the Razor Hill graveyard, so it's an annoying run) then when you enter the hallway again, hide in one of the slots in the walls closest to the end to rez only after the Pot CD is up (you'll probably have 6 or 7 mins on it to kill so you could go ghost exploring to learn where things are) and only when the patrol is as far away as possible.

4. Rez and IMMEDIATELY take 2nd Invis Pot... then run like hell into the open and as far down the road as you can get - keep right at the fork in the road - you'll see the little goblin caravan on your right by their AH. As soon as the pot wears off, Blink forward and expect to be killed promptly.

5. Run back (fun!) to the closest spot you can to the Smokeywood Pastures cart - it's ok to stand in the middle of the road, they'll find you no matter what - might as well be efficient.

6. Rez and immediately Blink towards the female goblin then Ice Block and make your transaction!
(if they hit you before you can Ice Block, just rez a final time right behind Penney Copperpinch, bubble/block and buy then).

Then I took the damage/rez sickness at the Spirit Healer and ported back to repair!

Shockingly easier than I imagined it would be. :) Good Luck!

i made an account jus to say this, i play an ally mage and i wanted to get the horde pattern. if ur a mage u CAN rez, iceblock, and buy the pattern while iceblocked :) saved me alot of hassle, i hope this helps. Hurry and buy it soon u wont be able to

If you rez under the awning right behind the vendor it often takes the hordies a while to notice you're there. I had time to rez, buy the pattern, and then a good 5 seconds after before anybody noticed me under there. ;)
Unfortunately, my hearthstone takes 10 seconds, so I had to come back again and rez around the corner to have time to hearth out. If you die around the corner behind the vendor, the next time you can rez inside the building behind her. It's nice and quiet in the building.

I find this a LOT more difficult to get on a lower alliance toon, this year. I retrieved it on a 40-something warlock last year relatively easily. I changed that toon's professions to mining / JC at some point during the year and ended up with a priest as my enchanter / tailor.

Anyways, she is level 53 and on a pve server with a very low horde population. The 85 guards one-shot me, which I guess is to be expected, however, there seems to be 3-4 of them posted right within range around the vendor. I don't think there's a way to buy it fast enough (I couldn't even get the buy window up) before they shoot, and I couldn't figure out a way to sneak in an extra second or two in.

I left a half dozen or more skeletons in various spots around Penney before I gave up, healer rezzed and hearthed. I advise against wasting your time with this on lower level alts unless you have an 85 to hold off the guards while you grab the pattern.

you can buy while mounted, and then fly out again.

I just got this on my level 29 Alliance Frost Mage--it took me a number of tries. Many times, I was very close--the final time, I actually managed to purchase 3 copies...when it rains it pours...
Since I didn't have ice block (which is a great idea), I just had to be really really quick and efficient, since I get one shotted upon rezing.
My suggestions:
1) Make a horde toon to scout the area, find her location. Browse her wares and see where the recipe appears in her inventory. I then made a small mark on my monitor where the item appears, so I'll know exactly where to click.
2) Switch to main toon; do the rez bunny hop (I used blink too) to get to her. I rez'd in between the two goblins, standing on the presents, but I'm not so sure it matters. Before you rez, align your screen so that when you right click on her, you're right clicking on where the recipe will be (so you don't have to move your mouse). I used first person view, found that more helpful.
3) Spam right click upon rezing.
4) Be Naked.

Horde characters will receive this pattern in their mailbox for every horde character that has tailoring as a profession - it will arrive on the first day of the Winter's Veil event and the sender is Greatfather Winter himself.
Horde tailors can also purchase this pattern from:
- 纳斯塔姆·卡布彬 in Undercity
- 本尼·考伯宾奇 in Orgrimmar
- 希尔萨 in Thunderbluff
- 伊比·吉波克 in Shattrath
- Alliance tailors can purchase this pattern from:

I found a Smokeywood pastures goblin to the right of the Aldor bank in Shattrath that sold both patterns. This means I get red and green Christmas clothing! (I am an alliance character so was nice to get both patterns.)

Edit: She does only sell the green pattern.

To be clear, I swooped into Ogrimmar on my L85 tailor, got the pattern and got out before being killed. It wasn't all that hard (you can stay mounted so its easy to fly away if not stunned).

I can confirm that the Smokeywoods vendor SEERSA in Thunderbluff will also sell the green pattern to Alliance players. I just bought it for my gnome mage. I swooped in, ice blocked, bought the pattern then made a dash for the edge to jump off, but didn't make it. Died, but I had the pattern, so it was all good.

Much easier than daring Orgrimmar with all the players! =)

This is available in ALL the Horde cities, so I flew in to Thunder Bluff, swooped in on the Smokywood vendor, bought one while mounted, and flew out to safety. Made it out with about 20% health left.

You can get the winter Green clothes Pattern on the Alliance, but you must enter Orgimar on your alliance toon and survive. If you can do that, the vender is green for you and you can buy the pattern.
The location is the only problem being between the Inn and the Auction House for the Horde. I did plan on going in on Christmas Eve. 2011 but was discouraged because the place was just crawling with 85 level horde all in PVP spec'd.
Its a good thing that I checked the place out on my 19 level shammy troll, it saved me a hefty repair cost. I waited till This morning, Christmas Morning at 3:30am Server time and swooped in with my Holy Night Elf Priest, got the pattern and flew off before anyone could get to me. Its cool, the clothes were selling for 200 gold on the AH in Storm Wind, so I made a few, sold 7 by broadcasting it in Trade at 60 gold, then threw the rest on the AH for 60 gold. Funny thing is I found them for sale from people I just sold to for 90 gold in the AH. They thought I wouldn't find out LOL. Oh well.
For the Horde who were wondering about the missed raid, Yes this happened on Echo Isles. You missed me Hah!

My tailor is a Hunter. When I was reading through the comments I noticed a lot of 85s or Mage techniques for Orgrimmar. I tried Orgrimmar TONS of times and I couldn't even talk to the Goblin. Then I scouted out Thunder Bluff.

The amount of players there is relatively low. And a lot of the guards are patrol. Once I got in the right spot I was able to get it and stood there for 30 seconds before I was killed.

What you have to do is stand in front of the Goblin. I know it will feel like you are in the open. But if you stand behind her a 85 elite guard will spawn and kill you immediately. I learned this the hard way. I stood in front and to my right. It worked perfect. You will want to die first and then scope out while you are dead before you rez. If you time it perfectly there won't be any guards around for about two minutes. All the other Taurens around are about level 30. The only one you will need to watch out for is the one that spawns, and a few 85s might come out of the building behind the tree. Just keep an eye out.

If you're a hunter, it will help a ton to feign death after you rez. That is what gave me the addition thirty seconds. It took a while for the guards to register that I was there.

My hunter was level 40 at the time, so it is easy to do. Also to avoid repare cost, I stripped down into nothing but the red winter clothes. Festive and safe!

I wish I would have taken a screen shot so I could show you how to stand perfectly, but just remember, in front to your right. It will work perfect if you time it right!

Confirmed in 5.1, you can still pick up this pattern as an Alliance toon... just take your Tailor to Orgrimmar and buy the pattern from the vendor (she is just outside the Horde AH)... assuming you can survive long enough to buy it, you too can learn the Green Winter Clothes for your Alliance Tailor, as I did myself on my tailor.
