A pun, referencing the expression "Like shooting fish in a barrel".
You'll either laugh or /facepalm.
Barbed Gill Troutx8
Recipe: Skullfish Soup
Best out of two rewards if you are a tank, since this can contain +30 stamina food (Crawdads)
You should always and always choose Barrel of Fish, as it has some chance of containing Furious Crawdad(best tanking food, worth nice gold too)! Crate of Meat on the other hand will never contain any.
I agree, there are perfectly good reasons to pick up either one yet people drop your rating because they can and/or you have a differing opinion.
The answer to whether or not you should choose this over the crate of meat is an answer everyone should be familiar with at this point: it depends on what you want to do.
Either way you go, I don't think anyone can criticize you. If you aren't making food for yourself, I'd still be willing to bet there's someone in your raid who wouldn't be offended by a holy priest offering them a +20 hit rating Spicy Hot Talbuk. Or a rogue offering a +44 healing fishstick.
Note that if you got a recipe, you find it again, even if its still in your bank
as good as the crate of meat is i always choose the barrel of fish, for 2 reasons
1) it almost always contains fish that i'm able to cook to give me stam buffs(i'm a raiding tank), or fish that i'm able to make golden fish sticks out of and make a pretty penny off of in the AH
2) i'm dont have the fishing profession and it's an easy way of getting fish, as meat is very easily accessable by 5 mins of grinding in the right area.
shooting in this would be to easy.
Persistent people plagued by the plight of - yeeeaah enough consonance there. People that are still doing the Outland cooking daily quests in hopes of getting that last recipe for The Outland Gourmet may want to start choosing this one over the Crate of Meat now. Sure the drop rates for recipes like Stormchops seem to be more common in the Crate of Meat, but who is to say that was just biased towards people that wanted meat to cook over fish to cook for the buffs they respectively give.
Now why would I say that you should choose this one now? Well not only have I gotten recipes from this as living proof, but with the nerfed amount of gold these old school dailies do, getting the occasional Goldenscale Vendorfish out of this barrel has proven to make it more worthwhile than that of what you would get from the Crate of Meat, especially considering that the food that can be cooked from either container does not sell for nearly as much as it did back when BC was the current expansion. Just my two cents. :)
Recipe: Broiled Bloodfin
which is not on the drops list...im guessing there are many random recipes in there but I just thought I'd mention that.
I just did this quest and got a recipe that aint listed.
Plz add in the Fish box:P
Same got the Boiled Bloodfin recipe.
Two things to point out:
I also got the Broiled Bloodfin recipe, it's always been on the loot table for this item but I guess no wowhead data collector has recieved it, odd.
Also, it feels like they have significantly increased the droprate of recipes from these, I don't know if I've been very lucky, but I've done the cooking quest for 3 days only, and each day I got a recipe (Broiled Bloodfin, Skullfish Soup and Kibler's Bits).
Could just be luck but...
5% drop rate my rear....the *only* thing I need for the chef title is outland gourmet, and all i need for that is skullfish. I've been doing the cooking daily for months, and no drop for the recipe....
So frustrated. Just figured I'd stop in to see why it is that I've been missing my last two Outland recipee's forever. Of course, I've been picking the crate of meat for the last six months. Ugh!
First crate got:
5 Furious Crawdad
5 FIgluster's Mudfish
2 Huge Spotted Feltail
1 Fishbone Toothpick
1 Broiled Bloodfin Recipe
Not too shabby :]
actully, the Skullfish Soup, does not drop in the crate of meat. So if you have gotten the other recipes from the meat crate, i would have to recommend you try for the soup.
Picking the Barrel of Fish I have received 3 uncommon recipes in 3 days of doing the quest, Kibblers, Skullfish and Bloodfin recipes. Luck or buffed drop rate, who knows?
For those that are farming for the stormchops/delicious chocolate cake, also note that both can be found in the bag of goodies rewarded for doing the northrend cooking daily. I received the stormchops recipe (not even knowing it existed) from one of the northrend dailies on my current toon and I have received the chocolate cake recipe on another toon from the northrend cooking daily.
You'll most likely want to get the Barrel of Fish, because the recipes have a higher chance to drop than in the Crate of Meat. =)
Got the best Barrel ever. Containing 1 Shiny Bauble. Hurray!
Looting fish from this barrel
count towards Oceanographer or Limnologist achievements just like looting clams.
Now that there's 2 achievements for raw/uncooked fish looted/caught (
is what I usually choose in hopes of finding the elusive
+ other fish from the barrel count toward these.
If you want the
Recipe: Delicious Chocolate Cake
, take the meat crate. There's a slightly higher drop rate.
Just a note here, it seems that as of patch 4.3, if you do not have either
they are a guaranteed drop in the crate. Only one of these can be in the crate per use. The following are still rare drops though:
