The new raid gear for when we hit 70?

Indeed.
To acquire this shield you need to kill 33 bosses in any Heroic mode dungeon. Each drops a Badge of Justice
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29434
that every player can loot, and which are then used as payment with the vendor in Shattrath.
Easy ;) Shame it looks like a paladin shield....

Players who can attend Nightbane kills may take greater interest in the Shield of Impenetrable Darkness (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28606
), which is about the same and lets you spend your Badges of Justice on other things.

Just picked this up over the trinket and I'm not dissapointed - The things a beautiful shield.
My only complaint is it's glow, it's kinda a MASSIVE ball of light that's quite blinding and misplaced - I'm hoping Blizz does something about this when they rebalance the heroics and finish TBC's Endgame.

I have this shield (was my single motivation to start running Heroics actually) and I love it. Its absolutely beautiful aesthetically and has incredible stats that were only made better in the recent patch.
And while yes, there are better shields.. you can count the amount of them on one hand.

Im personally wondering if I should use my tokens on this or get the exalted Sha'tar shield and use my tokens on the Gnomeregan Autoblocker.

Myself i have a preference for the Coldarra but my goal was to get whichever would be available first.
Assuming the 2x12sta gems on the sha'tar shield, the difference between Coldarra and Sha'tar is:
+223AC
+16 Block Value
-12 STA
+9 DEF rating = +3 DEF skill (ratings do use integers)
If one considers a 14K AC with the Coldarra and therefore 13,78K AC with Sha'tar, on a boss hiting at 6K (pre-mitigation i.e. not a very hard hitter) the extra AC of the Coldarra will absorb an extra 24 damage. Considering the number of hits u get on a Boss fight i would tend to prefer the Coldarra over the Sha'tar.
But like i said before i was aiming to get the 1st that would be available and it turn out for me to be the Coldarra :)

Been tanking with this shield since I got it about two months ago (Currently it's August). I've tried out both the Crest of the Sha'tar (Both enchanted with +18 Stamina, and the Crest was fully socketed), and I have to say, which one is better is a matter of preference and is dependent on what you're doing.
In Karazhan, where mobs hit very hard, mitigation is a big help and so the Coldshield is the better choice. There's still plenty of rage to go around to build threat with.
Outside of Karazhan, the Crest is the better choice because it has less mitigation and more HP. Why is this better? Because outside of Karazhan, mobs don't hit for ~1 K an attack. They do 400-500 maximum in most cases, and building rage for threat when only being hit for that amount can be a bit of a drag. Therefore, by sacrificing some mitigation we are able to generate more rage faster by taking more damage, and we have a little bit more HP to sustain us while taking this extra damage.
Just my insight.

As a tankadin looking for the next upgrade, I would have to say I love this thing mor than the Crest. The difference in health isn't so much that you'll lose and the mitigation and Def rating is much better IMO. Granted, the Crest has slots, but this helps with the current lack of Def I seem to be having trouble with lol. Oddly enough, I am UC and have a ton of health....but my Def is too low. Go figure lol. Anyway, it's really up to you. Both shields are great for either Warrior or Tankadin. Also, this looks hella sweet! Looks like a tankadin shield too :P The price is a bit much though. 22 badges would have been a bit better IMO. :)

As of patch 2.3, Karazhan along with the new Zul'aman bosses drop at least 1 badge of justice, the harder bosses drop multiple ones. If you're guild can fully clear karazhan, you can expect almost 20 badges from a run, making it much easier to get this shield, along with new badge rewards =]

For a paladin tank just starting heroics and aiming to gear up for Kara, it might be a good idea to spend your badges on the Libram of Repentance
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29388
first to get uncrushable. Currently, I'm getting up to exalted with Sha'tar to get the Crest of the Sha'tar so I can use badges of justice on other items first.

As someone who doesn't play a warrior, but is helping a freind gear his prot specced warrior, I have to ask: do the additional block value and defense rating on this sheild make it superior to the also easily available season one gladiator's sheild wall?
I notice that the sheild wall has superior armour and block rating, as well as stamina, but lacks the defense rating and sheild block bonus. Spoken as someone who has a hunter main, I don't know the conversion of the bonus sheild block- is it a static value? (As in, does it increase by the stated 33? It seems non-sensical to have a stat like that on a sheild instead of just "This sheild has x block value")
Thank ye kindly!

The bane of this shield is a lack of gem slots - otherwise there wouldn't be any discussion as to whether this is worth the badges.
As it is, the shield is only good in terms of damage mitigation - but not "great". And certainly not 33xBadge of Justice worth of an improvement on Crest of the Sha'tar, or even Ogri'la Aegis.
For example, Ogri'la Aegis with +18 Stam Enchant and 2x +12 Stam Gems gives:
+60 Stamina
+23 Def
+23 BV
3806 Armor
86 Block
Meaning a significant Stamina boost at the cost of mitigation.
Simply put, i'd skip this and get the Nightbane shield, which IS tankable in the Crest or the Aegis (given a half decent DPS).
And finally, with 2.4 approaching, spending 33 Badges is definitely stupid on this type of badge gear :)

Even though 2.4 is coming today propably, I went to get this shield today, I could use a better shield, and fck it, 33 badges, maybe there is better stuff to spend badges on in 2.4, but will propably cost about 100 badges each, and I havent heard of a new shield for BoJ's yet.
BoJ's are coming in fast enough, got 10 of them in one evening yesterday, doing a daily heroic quest, and heroic bot.

Funny how nobody has mentioned that this is a direct upgrade statwise from
Aegis of the Sunbird
from Botanica.

This shield is now almost completely pointless given the new Shattered Sun Offensive reputation shield (Dawnforged Defender
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34676
). SSO Exalted can be achieved in a matter of days once you reach around Phase 4 and do all available daily quests.
Spending BoJ's on this is now officially completely stupid, instead of just possibly stupid as I stated above xD

News about WLK mentioned "Coldara" as a sub-region of Borean Tundra. Having considered Blizzard's bad habit of spelling - Varimarthas in War3 to Varimathras, Northend in War3 and Northrend in WOW for example - it is quite possible that this shield is somehow related to Nothrend and Malygos (who dwell exactly in Coldarra).

I feel that this shield is a waste of badges when there are a few easier options that do not require nearly as much work.
There's the
Dawnforged Defender
which only requires doing dailies everyday, or doing the new instance, even on regular. Its hit rating helps with threat and the dodge is nice.
However, the option that came clear to me when I saw this item was the
Gladiator's Shield Wall
. Its base stamina and armor values made me wonder why anyone would get this shield. Even though this shield has got defense, the resil on the gladiator one "lowers" the soft cap for uncritablitity. If you can make up for it with other pieces of gear, you've just earned yourself:
+529 armor
+14 stamina
and lost:
14 Block value (which isn't needed much at entry raiding)
22 defence (which you have soft capped from other gear)
Because the Gladiator shield is accessable from a couple days of PvP, it seems to defeat this shield in every way except defence.

As a bit of trivia, Coldarra is a large island in Northrend, just off the coast of the Borean Tundra.

So they named a BC shield after a WOTLK zone. So... they liked the name of the shield and accepted it for a whole zone?

Transmorgification Points of Interest:
-This shield has a white glow emanating from the central bulge (kinda visible in screenshots). Quite unique since few shields have a glow at all. An easy to obtain alternative to
Zom's Crackling Bulwark
if you are looking for something in blue.
-Back side of the shield is unfortunately very beige, making a mostly blue transmorg set get thrown off upon closer inspection.
