This hammer provokes some thoughts in my head...
For a long time Rogues (and warriors too I guess) in general have stayed away from mace spec, as it had very little to offer in terms of utility/dps gain compared to fist/sword/dagger spec.
However, this weapon now represents probably the best SS/Hemo weapon currently in game, beating out even the Gladiator weapons by a comfortable margin (roughly 7dps, and around 60 top end dmg).
Does this strike (pun intended) anybody as a rather crass attempt by Blizz to overide a talents preceived uselessness by massively buffing the weapons available to it? (as opposed to just making mace spec more interesting/useful)
Or am I just overeacting becuase the equivalent Master Swordsmith weapon is only useful as an offhand (and therefore represent a signifcantly smaller overall buff to a character?
That's absurd, the same logic goes for replacing offhands
Mace itemization NEEDS this tbh
I am really thinking that even more than rogues and warriors this would be great for a dual-wielding shammy. Using this with the Mongoose enchant and Windfury would make some ungodly dps...but I do have a question.
I know you can only use one of a unique; would it be possible to use 2 uniques that came from the same line? i.e., Dragonstrike and Drogonmaw. Both of these have that wonderful Haste proc....your offhand might have less damage, but it IS your offhand, and if you had Mongoose on both of them, that would seem to me to be the best possible setup for a shammy.
That's assuming that Dragonmaw and Dragonstrike do not count as the same unique.
This very nice mace is crafted by having blacksmithing and being a Master Hammersmith.
You can upgrade the mace as you progress in the game. Getting the first level
simply require you to farm all the mats and getting the skill required. The second step
and last requires quite a bit more than that.
The first step - Drakefist Hammer (BS 350 skill)
The second step - Dragonmaw (BS 375 skill)
- The hard part here is the Primal Nether which can be found in both
normal and heroic raids. They are not so common in normal mode though.
The third and last step - Dragonstrike (BS 375 skill)
Ok...I answered my question from before about DragonStrike or Wicked Edge of the Planar.
Assuming it procs 1.4 times per minute like what someone recorded of its Step 1 version, DragonStrike does about 6012.4 dmg/min. (Since the Planar axe gets slightly buffed stats each upgrade, DragonStrike may also have more proc/min than its downgraded version, I do not know)
Wicked Edge of the Planar, however, does about 5988.9 dmg/min.
HOWEVER, since I'm a fury warrior, if I spam my Bloodthirst ability whenever the CD is up, with the AP from Wicked Edge I can do another 212.4 dmg/min, leaving me at a total of 6201.3 dmg/min with the Wicked Edge of the Planar.
The 2nd half also accounted for the +crit on Wicked Edge.
Possible faults with logic:
You don't generate enough rage with Wicked Edge to hit Bloodthirst everytime CD is up.
The proc on DragonStrike allows you to generate more rage, which you CAN use for Bloodthirst whenever CD is up (among other things).
The proc/min on DragonStrike is different than its Step 1 version. This could be possible as the stats on the Planar Axes go up as you upgrade.
No, I will not be showing my math. Don't believe me, do it yourself.
How would this fare for a prot pally? Considering that reckoning and seal of the crusader would add greatly to it. I'm just surprised not to see more up here regarding some other classes who would use this.
Am I missing something or are all the crafted weapons pretty much useless for prot or holy pally?
Aren't hammers supposed to be for pallies thematically? It'd be nice if one out of the 6 Master Weaponsmith BoP weapons was actually good for a pally build other than retrib.
I like my Khorium set, but other than that, it seems like Blacksmithing is not that great a choice for a paladin.
Is the Haste Rating proc enough of a dps increase to use (for ex.) Dragonstrike + Gladiator's Bonecracker or Gladiator's Shiv combo > (for ex.) Talon of Azshara + Blazefury/guard or Gladiator's slicer combo? For a combat specced rogue, using combat potency.
i have this baby, now i need offhand from BT trash
Only 10 stamina and 6.5dps extra for 5 Nether Vortex's? Thats a pretty expensive upgrade that doesnt give you it back.
The Nether Vortex's drop in high end 25 man raids.
this with blackout truncheon , mongoose enchant on both , dragonspine trophy , abascus of violent odds , rogue d3 assassination set , slice and dice on , bladeflurry , all of the above item proccing , equals fast as hell attacks and white damage feast :)
what a waste of my time, i level up BS to make these maces, working on the 2nd one atm and then bam season 2 gladiator stuff hits.
their is no chance in hell that i'd ever get 5 vortexs so 2nd upgrade was what i had to look forward to, now with the new glad MH mace its basically just as good as dragonstrike.. i know you lose haste but you gain 27sta, some hit, crit ap and res for 13less dmg and .1spd i dont think thats to huge of a difference and if your like me and have no chance at vortex's.. your going for the 2nd verison which is now pointless because you can simply grind 2k arena points and get a mace with 330dmg and the stats listed above
my opinion.. a waste of my time and gold seeing how i leveled without dropping my enchanting nice one blizzard.
This weapon has the 4th highest top end in game. The best being
1: Warglaive of Azinoth (
2: Syphon of Nathrezim (
3: Rod of the sun King (
4: Wicked edge of the Planes (
4: And this mace
Of the 4 i would only use 1,4,4 As a fury warrior.
I completely agree with TheRaven. Even more considering that with top end "Haste" gear and the 212 haste active heroic strike would be more effective considering the speed (and the top end damage). Rage generation shouldn't even be a problem even while spamming Heroic strike. The effective dps increase would be substantial
I am currently 3 Vortex's away from this mace. I have the 2nd tier atm and I have to say the haste proc lands frequently and really does a lot of dmg especially if your running SnD at the time, which ofc every rogue should know, SnD is part of your DPS cycle. I havent gone for much else in the way of haste gear but my DPS goes through the roof when this procs alongside SnD, Warp Spring Coil, Timeglass and Mongoose.
Cant wait to get my second Mongoose enchant done, have saved the enchant on my MH because I am so close to the third tier.
Crafted Last night and added a mongoose enchant. The enchant make the item look really sweet as it does with all weapons really.
Have done some insane dmg with this. The 2.8k crit SS against a human rogue was the most memorable, I can jsut imagine that player watching his health bar and thinking 'Oh F**k' lol.
But anyway, really impressed with this, been waiting a while for my last vortexs to drop and had 2 in the space of 2 mob groups leading up to Leotheras last night. I think you can imagine my reaction at the time =D
Will have to get procc watch or something in order to count the procs, however its very frequent.
Been hemo with this baby over at PTR.
She's a beauty...
Just too bad I can't get one on live :(
DST is not a popping trinket, its a passive chance on hit proc. Abacus can be popped at the same time.
whats the proc rate?!+
The Off-Hand was wrong, this is the correct list:
With the following Items it is possible to get exactly 1,050 Haste Rating (which equates to precisely 100%). Note: The Items Linked are for a Warrior because I was researching for my own.
Permanent: 253 Haste Rating
On Proc: 537 Haste Rating
On Use: 260 Haste Rating
Total: 1,050 Haste Rating (100%)
1,050 Haste is achieved with both the Dragonspine Trophy and Dragonstrike proccing at the same time and the Abacus of Violent Odds being popped.
Please mark down the first list.
With the current haste model this weapon is right on par with S2 weapons and talon of ashzara for PVE DPS. When the haste wants to proc a lot I find myself pushing well ahead of our S2 sword rogue. However, with the up and coming nerf to haste in 2.2 this weapon will no longer come close to these alternatives.
It will be a sad day for all of us that spent thousands of gold to level blacksmithing, running instances for all those nethers, and spending DKP on vortexes only to now have a weapon that is garbage.
At least I can get 12 gold for it at the vendor, now i just need 3000 more to replace the rest of the gold I wasted.
This weapon is a cruel joke for hemo.
Seeing that the formula for hemo is
Modifier = (Attack Power / 14) * Weapon speed (Reduced by the haste buff)
Lethality = 2 + (0.06 * Lethality Rank)
Normal Hemorrhage Damage = Modifier + Weapon Damage
Critical Hemorrhage Damage = Normal Hemorrhage Damage * Lethality
(As according to wowwiki)
So as your weapon speed goes down with the buff so does your hemo damage.
Its basically the same thing as the paladin seal that increases your attack speed but reduces your damage.
Well the proc rate has gone down as of 2.2. And the proc is less effective.
Still, I think Dragonstrike is probably the best MH wep you can get as Fury until BT/Hyjal. The mace off KT is comparable I guess but nothing else is IMO.
This mace makes me switch to blacksmitter. Its insane.
I love dragonstrike, plus I just obtained the Talon Of Azshara for my one hand, it dropped 4 resets in a row for us, GG.
I am a fury warrior btw, and until I see something I like more, I am sticking with the Talon.
Dual wielding two slow weapons is the way to go as of 2.3, WW hits with both weapons, sweeping strikes, and permanent threat reduction. I haven't gone below number 3 in every raid and I am still able to keep my threat down. I am usually behind a warlock with 1800 shadow damage raid buffed = /
Vengeful Gladiator's Pummeler
is better than this for PvP.
Actually Current Spreadsheets for Fury Warriors tend to place DragonStrike well above the s3 weapons. Haste still is supreme for a Fury warrior. White dps is roughly 60-70% and haste improves that by all that much. Also faster attack speed will generate more rage through talent points thus more DPS.
Next Patch Vortexes will be avaible for 10 badges of justice and 13 gold.
Could anyone give me a rough estimate on how much it would cost to level your blacksmithing from 0 to 375 and make the maces? I'd really appreciate if some one gave me a serious answer :).
i spent about 1600g going form 0-375. bought a lot of ore. if you have a miner alt you could save a lot, but time is money ;)
My own paladin isn't there yet, but I wondered how this would do for paladin tanking?
My other options would be the sword, or the arena maces.
One-hand on 2.4.2 PTR, along with the lesser versions.
It can double proc... and you can use 2 T3 versions.
2.4.2 Live: The haste does not stack, it refreshes only and seems to proc more often.
I was wondering what everyone though for a fury warrior PVE end game dps, Dual Dragonstrikes or the badge vendor Fist weapons would be better dps. I crafted and enchanted a 2nd DS but I'm hesitant to drop the 105 badges, what you guys think?
new patch they are one handed and non unique, and thus can be dual wielded. still not as good of an option as the badge fists however
Two Dragonstrikes tested at the immortal 60+ mage in DM North (after the King)
is uptime for "Haste" buff collected with "Uptime Meter" addon
Before 2.4.2 one Dragonstrike was tested and i got 30% uptime.
So with second Dragonstrike you just get (45%-30%)*13.44 ~ 2% haste
Waste of money
The reason is: 20sec without buff, then 3-4 buffs in a row within 5sec. And total buff time not 40sec, but only 14-15 seconds. After that again 20sec without buff etc
Haste rating increases your attack speed.
You take your total haste rating, divide by 1570, add this number to 1, and then divide your attack speed with the number you got. So for a 2.6 attack speed weapon with 212 haste rating you get 13.5% extra attack speed, which means your new attack speed will be 2.6 / 1.135 = 2.29.

Now that you can equip both of them I wonder whats the best enchant to go with these two? In my 1st its been Mongoose should I put mongoose on the 2nd or should I put something else like executioner or something really different for this combo?
Although these maces offer great dmg and what seems to be an awesome proc I have to disappoint you all.
I DW these now and the proc rate is awfully low, it's not worth the sacrifice in stats if you ask me. I would rather go for the badge ones because the money invested to level Blacksmithing and gathering mats for this weapon is a waste of time, ty blizz.
Well I tried both of these with Mongoose and it rocks in PVP. I don't notice the procs coz I don't have addons to monitor it but I do notice the
it does. I've been giving crits to squishies and geared players from 1,200 to 1,900 and the occasional 2k or beyond crit. As a mace spec fury warrior I'm lovin every minute of it. Now I understand why Blizz had to make this weapon a unique mainhand only weapon in the past.
minor question... if you have the lower version and upgrade it to the next version, will it keep the enchants on 'em or will you loose 'em?
Does the enchant get deleted? If so, that's sucks to enchant the lower and find more mats for the upgrade to be enchanted again.
PS. Not sure if this has already been answered previously.
Can someone clarify whether the procs from wielding 2 of those stack? (And therefore give 424 haste if both proc at the same time) Or whether it just refreshes the haste buff?
There were some people saying each method in the posts above.
As a fury warrior dual wielding these (executioner mainhand, mongoose offhand), I find them quite exeptional. The 212 haste proc refreshes on a decent level, and wit more white hits, the proc AND flurry are up more often, resulting in a 2.70 weapon to be below 2.00 for a considerable amount of time for boss fights or just grinding.
Some would complain that these weapons offer no actual stagnant dps stats, so an alternative could be Dragonstrike mh with executioner and the badge fist weapon offhand weapon. At 2.5 weapon speed, it's a tad bit fast for my taste, but if you put mongoose on it, it could be a good 2nd choice because of more procs.
As for the cost of these weapons, if you aren't already a blacksmith, the mats for 2 AND leveling blacksmithing to 375 could cost you thousands of gold depending on your server. But honestly, dual wielding one of the biggest one-handed maces in game does look pretty sick :)
Is this worth dualwielding?
As a t6 raiding Enhancement Shaman I still haven't upgraded from Dragonstrike to another weapon. Currently all the available math (including extensive simulations performed with Crazy Shaman's DPS & AEP calculator by Yo) suggests that this weapon only has a single-digit DPS disadvantage (~4 dps in my simulations) when compared to any tier 6 main hand. This
the badge vendor weapons. Field testing against my s3 main hand axe either confirms these numbers or even suggests they may be underestimating the proc's overall DPS value.
Given these results I am still using Dragonstrike in Sunwell and have no plans to replace it until either s4 or
Hand of the Deceiver
become available to me.
frankly it really depends on what your going for.
the badge weapons i agree, without other items or talents considered, are much better.
the proc on these however makes them (depending on your luck of course) a much higher DPS than the fists... but only during a proc.
also, if you stack haste, these proc more often, means more dps, and a more significant gain over the badge weapons, however just with normal T4~ gear the fist are IMO of course far better.
not just saying this because i use two, just saying that for a haste stacker, these in the end will hit much harder.
Dragonstrike is effectively about 110 DPS when the haste proc is up, which is comparable to S4 weapons. But the proc rate isn't as high so it averages out pretty close to about 100 DPS.
I'm not very good at math, and I haven't played WoW in over a year, but I'm planning on coming back pretty soon and want to have an idea of what I'm going to do gear-wise when I come back. Is Dragonstrike superior to Vanir's Right Fist for a dwarf fury warrior? Also, how do each compare to Syphon of the Nathrezim? Thanks for your help.
I don't know whether to make the switch from Prot to Fury when I get to 70 and I don't know whether to duel wield. How much are the mats?
Is it worth making this over the first version?
i am looking for some good weapons and i am thinking about this mace. can i still dualwield it? and is it better then stormherald if i am a master hammersmith? thx helpers
It's just a shame that Blizz took away unique weapons like this one and others for blacksmiths in WotLK.
It took a lot of the fun out of blacksmithing and made it very vanilla.
Two of these in combo with the Dragonstalker set
just looks very right.
(click view in 3d)
The weapon can still be made, but only by someone who already knew the recipe before the change. Don't do what I did and forget that it's BoP. Spent a few thousand gold on the mats then realized it's impossible for me to get...
Would be nice with mogging coming if they took some of the more unique models and made them BoE.
They should def make the BS weapons come back. I mean all the other prof's got to keep their special armor and stuff, why take these out?
For those blacksmiths lucky enough to have learned the pattern this will be a fantastic weapon for transmogrification . A huge 1H mace with a molten, menacing dragon's head. Very apropos for tanking Deathwing.
I wonder if there is a way to petition for Blizzard to bring these back for transmogrification. This mace is literally the only one i found to be cool enough to go with my Merciless Gladiator set. Sucks that they were ever removed.
Don't make the same mistake I did and buy all of the mats for all three tiers (
and this) before checking to see if the pattern is still trainable for transmorg purposes. As of 12-8-2011, it is not available on any trainer due to the removal of Weaponsmith and Armorsmith specializations in Patch 4.0.1. I submitted a ticket and was told that the designers are aware of this oversight but unfortunately the GM had no ETA for a fix. I really wanted to stand out with such a unique item model. :(
Well my warrior was one of the fortunate ones to make one of these items back during BC. And I stored it in my bank at the time after I stopped using it because the mats were obsurd to farm at the time and I thought they were bringing the blacksmithing specialties back into the game at some point.. So this item will be for sure getting those maces from Endtime transmog'd. Gotta love being a packrat. Will post a screen shot when I finish leveling the toon to 85. Just hit 82 a few minutes ago.
This is perhaps
coolest 1-handed mace in the game, and those blacksmithers that still have it should be very happy, as using this transmogged is rare, yet beautiful!
New from 5.2 PTR Patch notes!
The legacy weapons Blizzard said Blacksmiths could craft at the 5.2 Lightning Forge are in! They're versions of old BC Weaponsmith items.
