I don't know where the percentages come from, they seem rather high.

As of patch 2.0.10 the best mobs to farm are the Clefthoof Bull's (~14% droprate based on ~450 kills).
These mobs can be found in the area south of the Laughing Skull Ruins and west of the Horde village Garadar and north of Halaa.

Don't bother with the normal Clefthoof mobs, their droprate is so much lower (~5%).

It seems the droprate since patch 2.0.10 has been increased. I frequently get 2 in a row and getting 5-6 in a row are no exceptions. Good thing since for some craftables you need 40 of them.

Its easy too farm them.. just west of garadar there is alot of bull's and wild elekk spawns too(for rep) and storm rager(for mote of air). farmed a stack in 20 min.. easy way too get money if your 335 LW and can make Clefthide leg armor.

They are selling for 80-100g a stack of 20 on my server, nice means of cash and easily farmable.

These are very easy to farm, drop rate aint bad+ they sell for 20g~ probably more per 5 stack. Me likey =)

Im a 68 Feral Druid and in my opinion if u needed this u should go to nagrand and just cruise the area and kill all of them u see i can farm bout 20 in an hour and in my server Mannorath thats about 60g so if u did it for 5 hours a day and got 100 u could have 700 in a week and 700*3-4g Is alot for many

I belive the drop rate on these was at some point reduced by bliz curently geting a 23% drop rate from clefthoof bulls in Nagrand (507/2177) skins

After many hours of farming and a lot of thinking I found out that blizzard had implemented some awesome algorithm to calculate the drop chance of clefthoof leathers! It's a simple modification of the "I WILL BREAK YOUR NERVES" algorithm.!

The location of spawn north-west of Garadar is the best spot for finding these, however if you are alliance there may be lots of horde activities and gankage is possible XD

if you are afraid of being ganked, or is being targetted by horde, the location next to the lake on the east of Trelaar is the best

I like to AE farm these out by where Durn spawns and wonders. Theres 1 bull in each pack + the others give leather. The above locations are correct and possibly faster for getting just the clefhoot leather, but ive found its a favorite location for china farmers, so if these places are camped, go out to the open field and farm them. Agroing the bull wont pull the rest of the pack.

I don't but it's so expensive in these days (80-90g a stack - Executus / EU). I've check some of EU servers and prices between 60-120g for a stack.

Grinded 74 Thick Clefthoof Leather, only from the Clefthoof Bulls. Had to kill 255 bulls, 29% droprate for me. 30/12/07

Found them at 46,76. A couple of herds converge here. If you take a friend or two, you can kill both herds and your farming may take a little less time. The drop rate is around 22%.

Best route for farming this leather is to start grinding Clefthoof Bulls south-west of Garadar and move north-west killing them along the way. Then turn back and same thing again, you don't have to wait for respawns at all, even if ther is little competition. Got exactly 195/650 (30%)

I got really good droprate from Clefthoof Bulls. Needed 29 skins, and killed 66 bulls. Thats 44%

I farm my Thick clefthoof leather like this(map).
If you are a hunter the ability track beasts works fine.
Just look after the red dots on the minimap, theres no other "Red" beasts there.

I managed to pick up 2 for 30s each tonight.

It seems that only people who get very lucky on drop rates post about items, so for all of you depressed people who think they are extremely unlucky, this post is for you! Either I'm also very unlucky or it's just a horrible drop rate, but I've killed about 90 bulls and I've gotten 7 pieces of the thick clefthoof leather. Considering I'm after 94 pieces total to make all 3 heavy clefthoof items, if my luck doesn't improve it's going to take killing ~1,200 clefthoof bulls to get what I need. Now I know why it's so expensive on the auction house - stack of 20 of this would probably take me about 6 hours to get, which justifies those AH prices of 5-10g each on my server. I normally get 1-3 knothide scraps (pretty large creatures to yield such a small amount!), every 5th or 6'th one drops an actual whole piece of knothide leather, and every dozen or so kills nets me a thick clefthoof leather. I like Mira's idea! Good post, thanks! =] Good luck and don't get too down if it takes forever to farm this - your experience is probably normal!

I think you have just hit a bad spot on the drop rates imo,

Out of 422 kills I have a 27% drop rate. Am going to keep grinding & will update this post.

One thing I have noticed is the drop rates seem to be better at quieter times

As of 2.4----
farmed about 60 of em, got a drop rate of %31 of clefthoof bulls. So the percentages seem right.

lucky on frostwolf sever (ally) 1 stack of 20 is 165g sort of makes it hard to make stuff(other then gold)

I just killed and skinned 30 Clefthoof (just the regular non-aggro Clefthoof) for the quest and got 2 Thick Clefthoof Leather. That's a droprate of about 6.7%, so accounting for the vagaries of chance I'd say the quoted 8% droprate is probably pretty accurate.

As an aside I recommend picking up if you're farming these anyways. Synergy and all that.

well, at first when i came skiniing the clefthoofs i was like wow...2-3 thicks from 30 clefthoofs, that is awsome...

and yesterday, i got a stack while grinding 5 of the clefthoofs next to halaa for aout 10 times...
that is 20 leather in 50 kills....scared me...

Pair up farming these with the Daily quest for Nether residue, and your bank will fill up! These sell for 6-8g EACH on Malygos server. Sometimes I feel generous and offer a stack for 100g. Never takes more than 30 secs to sell them. Happy Hunting! :)

Also, on the drop rate, I'd say from my exp. 30-40% seems right. I've skinned 5 and got 5 of em, then skinned 5 more and got none. Generally after I have a stack, I also have a stack of heavy knothide leather, and close to 2 stacks of heavy knothide scraps. The heavy leather goes for 15g a stack, and the scraps for 2g. So even if the drops are low for you, you'll make some cash. Not to mention the fur and horns that go for a couple gold ea stack

Came here before starting my grind for the heavy clefthoof set. And I was quite happy when I looked into my bags maybe 30 kills in and had a stack already there. Of course now that I'm posting this I'll go back and not get anything for the next 300 or so kills. Happy skinning.

my lifetime skinning is (1001/3450) or ~29%.

helped me get my epic flyer and i occasionally farm a stack or two for some pocket change.

if you're wondering, im a paladin, mostly just kara/heroics gear in both my ret set and prot aoe farming set.
I found ret to be easier to farm as. prot WOULD be better if they didnt have that damn stomp(the bulls outside horde city in case you are wondering where)

i get a stack of leathers as ret in ~20-25 minutes and it takes me about 30-35 minutes as prot.

EDIT: these sell for anywhere from 75g-150g a stack on US-Dalvengyr.

did the clefthoof mastery quests that's 60 kills in all and got 7 thick clofthoof leather. That's what... 12%? Can't wait to start the grind for these babies. My wife will never see me again. : )

The price that this website says to sell it for is outrageous, if u put it in the AH for 40g a stack, trust me, it will never sell, i sold 16 for 30g which i thought was a pretty good deal. So i would say a stack of 20 would probably sell for somewhere around 35g, hope this helps :D

Did this today to get the leg item... Went just for 16, walking out with 17 and 20 Knothide((Destroyed about 30 or so*cough* need bigger bags))

Now for all of you saying the drop rate is dismal, Kill faster or something I don't know *shrug* got mine in about 20 minutes, including a bio break.
