You hand these in, 10 at a time, to Lauranna Thar'well of Cenarion Refuge for 250 Cenarion Expedition rep. Handing these in will net you a 'Package of Identified Plants' which usually has a few gray items and some edible plants. Sometimes you get herbs.
It seems that you can't hand these in after you hit Honored with Cenarion Expedition, so use 'em when you get 'em.

I am honored now, I can't seem to get the quest from here again.. I have done it a few times before I got honored, but now the quest is gone? Anyone know why?

I'd also recommend if you level an alt farm the plants on your main and have your alt turn them in before he/she starts questing in this zone so you can get revered much faster.

It takes exactly 360 of these to go from 0 Neutral to Honored. After honored these cannot be turned in anymore. I suggest doing this turn in before you do any of the quests to maximise your rep potential.
After you have a bunch of the bags the quest gives you, just hold down your Shift button and right click the bag to auto loot.
If you recieve any Uncatalogued Species
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24407
do not turn any of them in until *AFTER* you hit honored. They are worth 500 rep a piece.
OBSOLETE
:
Also there is a chance that the bags will drop Edible Fern

these were used by twinks (no level req) prior to patch 2.1

Shocking how no one mentions a fine area to farm these.
It's true most, if not all mobs have an average of 20-25% chance to drop these...but I found out that the most annoying of Zangarmarsh creatures hold the key to gaining many Unidentified plants.
If you've ever done an instance in Zangarmasrh, you know of the lake to swim through has a plentiful amount of Mudfin frenzys' that every so often shoot up at you.
Turns out these buggers each have a 20-25% chance to drop an Unidentified Plant, and being they are all 1/4 of a regular mob, to AoE them down in a sense technically quadruples your chance of finding an Unidentified Plant.
I farmed these guys in bear form with no hassle and hit some mobs of 4 with no drops, to tanking a mob of 8 getting 7 drops...the odds are in your favor if you're out for the Grinding of Unidentified Plants.
Best of luck, and good fishing!

One of the very few items that actually can be sold on the AH and be turned in right away to receive a nice amount of reputation.
I suggest turning them in at least after friendly. At friendly the naga won't give reputation anymore, only their servant dudes do.

Note that the official Blizzard rep page still says you can turn in Unidentified Plant Parts for reputation at Exalted. This isn't entirely true.
If you are below Honored, you can turn in Unidentified Plants for the Package of Identified Plants. Inside that Package, sometimes you'll find Uncataloged Species. You can turn in Uncataloged Species at ANY reputation level to gain 500 rep.
However, if you are already Revered or Exalted, you cannot turn in Unidentified Plant Parts for the Package of Identified Plants. Therefore, you have no chance to find any Uncataloged Species, since you're never given a Package of Identified Plants.
So the moral of the story is to save every Uncataloged Species you find, and turn them in after Revered. If you're after the Cenarion Rep rewards it will benefit you to grind as many Unidentified Plant Parts as you can before you hit Revered, because it will be a one-shot, one-way gamble that your hundreds of Plant Parts may turn into Uncataloged Species.

Best place by far to farm these for an Aff 'lock is Serpent Lake. DoT each Mudfin Frenzy in a group with Siphon Life, Life Tap, then DoT the next group. The one DoT is more than enough to kill them, (at lvl 70 at least) and having your pet on defensive speeds things up.
I usually have the Imp out for the Fire Shield and put Fel Armor on, (not that I ever take it off). You do need to swim around a little, or looting the corpses gets a little difficult after about 5 groups.

I found a decent drop rate of these parts from the hydra type things (sorry can't remember names) which tied in with another quest from the alliance town in zangermarsh (again, sorry don't remember the name off the top of my head :s)
One useful thing for me was from 3 turn-ins i got 2x Arthas tears which would otherwise had required a run to Scholo for my pally epic mount!

Wowhead statistics tells, that the 3 kinds of Bogstrok, liveing on islands and in waters in western Zangarmarsh, has the highest droprate.
They are humanoids, can not be pickpocketed though. They do drop Jaggal pearls, Shiny fish scales, fish oil, jaggal clam meat. and ofc. Unidentified plant parts
Water breathing potions for the hordes:
Simply don't do the quest "No more mushrooms!" wich Magasha in Swamprat Post in Zangarmarsh gives you.
Take the quest. you get 3 charges of 1 hour waterbreathing. abbandon the quest.
this way you can allways get free waterbreathing potions :D

as a druid im after cenarion rep though every mid-game raider should be after it as well. i am also an alchemist so i want sporeggar rep. my plan here is to grind the bog lords with a paladin tank (killing 20 guys at once is very nice) and get rep for sporeggar from killing them in general, turning in bog tendrils, and looting any mature sporeling sacks i find, also, since im and herbalist i can gather these guys, which gives a total 55% chance to gather plant parts. these guys also drop motes of life and living essences. basicaly it'll take all of an hour (pending on respawns) and ill get all 360 of the plant parts i need no to mention sporeggar rep and lots of primals/essences.
happy hunting!!

Farming As a Druid
There is a high probability you're a druid looking to get to honored with Cenarion Exped. before you do any quest to fully maxmize your rep gain with hopes of eventually getting
Earthwarden
.
These are easily farmed in Serpent Lake.
Here is what you do
Approach the waters edge and throw on your thorns and mark of the wild. Now jump in (water's warm) and switch to Aquatic Form (if you don't have Aquatic Form go get it...you don't deserve Earthwarden without it :-p)
Swim around and aggro schools of
Mudfun Frenzy
. Usually about 5-6 per school and I managed to aggro at best 4 schools near Coilfang. Chances are you'll only net a couple schools.
Switch into bear form and slowly back your way to the surface while swiping and if your armor isn't quite what it should be Demoralizing Roar (useful all around although not necessary).
Throw in the occasional Mangle and Enrage as needed for damage and threat and just keep swiping.
Its safe and easy. I netted about 30 unidentified plant parts in 30 minutes.
In Case of an Emergency
Cast rejuvination/lifebloom/barksin/regrown/innervate as necessary. Although it was only on the really big bulls did I need to go so far as barkskin/regrowth/lifebloom and then innervate due to mana drain from shapeshifting.

What I did was go to the Bogflare Needler mobs at level 59 on my DK, and farmed them.
My main goal was to get the Captured Firefly for my main, who I collect pets with. But secondary achievements were over 300 unidentified plants and a full level of experience. As well as just over a few hundred gold.

Just did this on my level 80 warrior. By far the quickest place is the lake surrounding coilfang reservoir. Just kill the fish, pull one and 3 more will come to you. Have some way to breathe water, either from an alchemist, a class spell, (I used
Noggenfogger Elixirs
). Also, if you can get your hands on some swift swim potions that'll help you immensely. It took me about 2 hours to collect 200. So about 100 an hour. I would start at the west end of the lake, and swim to the east side, then fly back to the west side. Also, I got about 40g worth of grey items for each 100 plant parts. Just make sure you have lots of bag space because almost every fish drops a grey fish scale-type trash item.
You could do this while farming spore rep while listed above, but you will lose
a lot
of time flying back and forth to turn in the rep quest. And the fish each die in one hit, the naga (even at 80) won't.
I also spammed chat every ten minutes or so (catching people logging in or zoning in) And bought 140 for roughly 35g.
So if you farm it just kill the frenzy fish and follow my suggestions above and you should have it in 3 1/2 hours tops for your alt. I suggest something aoe heavy and a ranged pull. Start off and pull one, then aoe the three that come in. (shoot -> whirlwind for my warrior).
Happy hunting.

I think it depends on your farming logic. I was out farming the Bogflare Needlers while I was leveling. I now have almost 400 of these from almost 1200 kills for a drop rate of 28% according to Mobinfo.
This might not be the fastest way to get the rep but on the other hand there is a chance you will see the pet which is either a very nice addition to your collection or will still sell for several thousand gold on my server.
Alas, I have not actually seem the pet drop on the toon I'm farming on. But if you want to kill more than one bird (or fly in this case) with one stone the fishes might not be the best route.

I started on Bogflare Needlers too, but I got the Captured Firefly after 25 kills hah, so I went to the Frenzy fishies in the lake, much faster this way, seriously.
As a prot warrior all I have to do is taunt one back, charge another, taunt a 3rd pack, demo shout to keep them from Evading then when I got enough aroud me I shockwave to kill em all in one blow, I loot. Rinse repeat. 90 minutes, I have 210 already.

Rep Farming Guide for Cenarion Expedition
DO NOT DO
Any of the quests dealing with Cenarion Expedition in Hellfire Peninsula and Zangarmarsh
Well, you can do the quests but do not turn them in at all until you get to Honored, by the time you turn in those quest you should be near or at Revered.
The only two quests you will deal with is
Plants of Zangarmarsh
and
Identify Plant Parts
.
Tools you needs
Character that is high level (70+)
Good spell that will one shot the mobs
Grab
Potion of Water Breathing
(
Angling to Beat the Competition (H)
or
Too Many Mouths to Feed (A)
, after you get the quest, abandon the quest as quickly)
Music
Why abandon the quest, that way you can keep on getting your
Potion of Water Breathing
as you farm
Unidentified Plant Parts
. There is a bonus for Mixology where you gain 2 hours: total of 6 hours vs 3 hours.
Where to farm in Zangarmarsh
If you are not herbalist or not working on the
Sporeggar
Rep: You should head to Serpent Lake (west of Coilfang Reservoir) where you will find
Mudfin Frenzy
. These guys come in a group of four. Also they do respawn very quickly. This is the best place for the Potion of Water Breathing use.
If you are a herbalist or is working on the
Sporeggar
Rep: Head to Quagg Ridge (east of Sporeggar) where you will find some of the Fungal Giants (
Bog Lord
) that not only drop
Unidentified Plant Parts
but you can also "skin" them for herbs and Unidentified Plant Parts. You will need to travel around the lake in the area to farm.
Both places have a 25% to 30% drop rate.
Your goal is to get 360
Unidentified Plant Parts
to get from Neutral to Honored.
What about this mobs?
Bogstrok Clacker: Even with the 39% drop rate, the main problem is that the mobs will not have an item to give. Fungal Giants and Mudfin Frenzy do drop other items but you can sell them with add-on for an easy 21g or more. Also you can only loot one creature at a time even if you see four mobs (One parent (Loot-able) and three babies).
You want to farm effectively meaning Bonus Rep grind or a lot of mobs that can be looted.

I recently went back to complete my Cenarion Expedition Rep and I can confirm that as of Patch 5.4 that you cannot turn these in for rep after you hit Revered. I mailed them to an alt.
A good place to farm these is the Bog Lords in The Spawning Grounds. You get Sporregar rep and if you are an Herbalist you can "skin" them to pick up more plant parts.
Edit: I should note I did this on my hunter at level 88, while waiting for my queue to pop. I made a circuit around The Spawning Grounds, one shotted the Bog Lords and skinned them. Their respawn time is great.

If you are lucky enough to get more than one of the
未归类的植物
before the repeatable quest is unavaliable. Make sure you save them for until you are honored because you can hand them in multiple times as long as you have the item left after honored. You will get 500 rep per item. I can confirm this because I was able to loot three of them before the quest was unavaliable. Which gave me 1500 rep past honored. To reach honored from 0 rep neutral, you will need a total of 360
http://www.wowhead.com/item=24401
. They drop from various mobs around

For any Completionist who wants every pattern they can possibly get, grinding for Cenarion Expedition reputation is a Must. Multiple patterns for all professions are available at higher reputations, and, of course, at Exalted you can purchase the Cenarion War Hippogryph. Several guides are available and all of them promote gathering/turning in the Unidentified Plant Parts until Honored as the best strategy. With that in mind, going after the higher % drop Creatures seemed a sure bet, but after some time grinding the Bloodscale Slavedrivers and Enchantresses, it became clear that their scattered nature was quite time-consuming. AoE attacks weren't very effective, maneuvering around obstacles/buildings was a pain, and trying to gather them up was difficult when they leashed back to their patrol points in a very short distance. So, following the suggestions from several posters back to 2007, I tried the Mudfin Frenzy's in Serpent Lake.
In about 2.5 hours I bagged 415 Unidentified Plant Parts, 400+ gold in vendor trash, about 44 greens, and 1 Blue item, using my level 110 Warlock. The fish come in packs of 4, but be warned: they are scattered and mixed among other packs, so tagging one fish can bring more than one group in. If you are Zone/Mob level, more than one pack will tear into you like piranhas on a guinea pig; these fish are aggressive. Go with a High-Level character or you will be Fish-food. I tapped 1 fish in each group with Drain Life, just enough to get it's attention, bringing in anywhere from 12-20 fish at a time and burning them down. Breathing potions, seal form, or being Undead are needed to stay underwater for long periods. This appears to be the Best way to get the plants in a reasonable amount of time with least amount of effort, and gives a decent chance for some green gear drops. They respawn fairly quickly, so I just circled the West end of the lake and killed 1006 Frenzy's before calling it a day.

Fish were a waste of time for me.
While I could have used swimming/water breathing potions I chose not to as I was getting terrible amounts from them. I would kill 8+ at a time and often they dropped no plants, 1-2 plants was somewhat common but very rare was 4-7 at a time. I was on a low 100s Demon Hunter.
Swapped to my 89 Priest (Skinning/Herbalism and due to level I was not one-shotting anything much) and tried The Dead Mire. Skinning both the hydras and the fungus, grabbing herbs as I went between, was even worse!
Then I moved southwest... Between Quagg Ridge and the Spawning Glen and I think I did some in Hewn Bog. THIS was my sweet spot! I have done hardly any quests in Zangarmarsh on my priest, and within an hour, I had a little over 200 plants 60+ Bog Lord Tendrils and a whole mess of herbs and other fun stuff. I will definitely be back there if I ever need to farm these plants again!
