Anyone that can share their personal experience on the best mobs to farm for these?
If you're an Herbalist, the bog lords in SW Zangamarsh can be "skinned" for several things, including motes of life and the odd Ancient Lichen. The lords can also drop the motes themselves.
Dead Mire in Zangarmarsh is about the best place I've found, herbalist or not.
Quagg Ridge (28,63) is great place to farm too, also there are no hydras as in dead mire so only mobs you need
well that certainly is a lie ... killed a lot of the Rotting Forest-Rager and NOT ONE DAMN DROP!
I farmed those bog lords for an hour today, and 'Herbing' them didn't give a single mote. I also think the drop rate for the bog lords and the starving bog lords is reversed. The healthy mobs dropped way more motes.
If you've gathered 10 of these you can turn it in into
I made a quick outline of where all the best places to farm motes are. Very useful if, like me, you are farming many of them for a recipe of some sort.
(Zone) NPC name - Coordinates - % drop rate - link to page at Wohead
Mote of Air:
(Nagrand) Storming Wind-Ripper - 69.21 (Throne of Elements) - 33.9% -
Mote of Fire:
(Nagrand) Raging Fire-Soul - 69.21 (Throne of Elements) - 34.1 -
Mote of Water:
(Terokkar Forest) Crashing Wave-Spirit - 63.17 (North-Western Throne of Elements) - 33.7 -
Mote of Earth:
(Blade's Edge Mountains) Sundered Rumbler - (Basically above and all below Area 52) - 18.8 -
Mote of Mana:
(Netherstorm) Mana Wraith - 36.60 and 31.73 (Anywhere above Area 52 and more below. While you're at it, kill the Nether Rays as well, they have just as good of a chance to drop and are mostly in the same area) - 25.8 -
Mote of Life:
(Zangarmarsh) I didn't find any specific place to farm for these because the zone is just rich with them. But I would suggest farming the Bogg/ Starving Bogg Lords and Fungal /Starving Fungal Giants because they are all very close. - The Spawning Glen (SW Zangarmarsh) and East of there is the Quagg Ridge - Very similar drop rates on all 4 mobs that I pointed out, 18.2 to 18.8 -
Mote of Shadow:
By far the most commonly found mote. This is dropped in almost every zone and can be easily farmed anywhere. But there may be a few exceptional areas just because npcs that drop them are close together, non-elite, and easy to kill. Here's one spot in a few that are exceptional:
(Nagrand) Voidspawn - Again, no specific coords, but all around Oshu'Gun, the bigass crystal SW Nagrand. - 18.4 -
28,62 @ Zangarmarsh - Confirmed as an excellent spot. Deadmire isn't bad either.
been farming these Motes of Life for ages and not one has dropped.
I used to farm the withered bog lords in northeastern Zangarmarsh for these(quite successfully), but today after about 30 kills I haven't received a single one.
edit: after 10 more kills I got 2 of them. But normally I would have a couple primals at least.
wtf...nerfed in 2.1? Or am I having really bad luck? I have never had this bad of a drop rate for these before.
(I did notice the added Living essence drops though. I picked up 8)
Is it just me of has it been a super nerf on these? any place that still drop these enough to bother farmimg them?
The drop rate was nerfed badly but is actually still descent on the bog lords and fungal giants the quagg area SW Zangarmarsh 20 mins i got 2 primals made.
Since Motes have a use function, you can drag them to your Action Bar to easily track how many you got while farming.
can confirm on crappy drop rate.. honestly getting more random greens to drop then motes at this point. pretty annoying
If you're a protection paladin and can AoE grind, I've found the best way to get these motes is thus:
Bring a friend- anyone is fine, but if you aren't an herbalist this person should be an herbalist.
Go to dead mire. Pick an area where you can see 6+ bog giants. Attack one, seal/judge light, then have your helper round up the other nearby bog giants and drag them to you (you should be consecrating to pick them up). Once you have a bunch, stop pulling them and kill them. Loot them, herb them, move on.
Using this strategy, a level 63 rogue and I were able to get a grand total of 79 motes of life in about an hour and a half, plus 5 bars of experience for the rogue.
I was also able to pick up half a stack of Adamantite on the side, and about 8g worth of vendor trash.
70 affliction lock, got 23 motes in ~24 minutes at the Spawning Glen in Zangar. Also got 1 green drop, 23 bog lord tendrils, 2 Living Essences, and 15 unidentified plant parts. Have not compared to other grinding locations, but that's good enough for me.
Yes, people are saying that the Dead Mire is a good place to farm these, and I can confirm that.
I spent about 1-2 hours there and picked up 4-5 Primals, or so. A very nice place! Not very much competition and and I can almost 3 shot them as a Priest. Easiest thing I've ever farmed!
I used to farm primal life at the Dead Mire, however since the new patch, I believe this drop rate has been nerfed. Does anyone know if this is true? I farmed for an hour and didn't get a single mote of life to drop.
have a great droprate
got 5 primals in an hour
just keeping moving between the 2 islands and you'll be fine ^^
I think that they got crappy drop rate. I have been farming over an hour an got 1 mote. I think that the best place is Dead Mire but no sure. The Lagoon Walker got low drop rate and I have tested that.
I would say that the edge of the Bone Wastes in Terokkar Forest is the best place to farm them. Not only are there many Infested root walkers (19% drop rate) but Rotting forest rangers also spawn, which have a very impressive 86% drop rate.
you can buy these motes from an NPC from stormspire in Netherstorm.... all motes are there.........
The best I have found to farm these post zangarmarsh nerfs is in Skettis, on the elite trees that pat there. If you have the gear to kill them and no one else is farming them the return is huge, guaranteed 2-5 motes per mob.
I found the Dead Mire in Zangramarsh to be an excelent place to farm those motes. gotta admit that i haven't tried so many places though.
In about 1,5-2 hours i got 9 primals.
According to my MobInfo addon the Boglords had ca 36% droprating.
The lvl 62 Giants had 34% (!)
The lvl 61 Giants had 16%
So you should try to kill mostly 62 mobs(all Boglords are 62)
I don't know how or why, but I'm seeing a dramatically different drop rate. After killing 47 of the giants in Zangarmarsh, I've had one drop. One. That's a 2.1% drop rate, almost an order of magnitude below the one listed. In the same space of time, a friend grinding on the same mobs (not grouped) got a full primal. She took pity on me, and gave me the motes she got from herbing my kills. I currently have 30 motes, of which only 5 actually dropped for me.
All I can say is, if you look at the above drop rates and think "surely there's something wrong here!" there isn't. The server just hates you. Hang in there; I feel your pain.
Holy Paladins who need Primal Life for their healing enchants can easily AOE farm Motes of Life at Quagg Ridge. Get some spelldps gear (you should have some from levelling), and gather about 4-5 giants. AoE them down with conc while stacking crusader on each. Easy farming.
Nagrand 69,21 very good drop rate
Bog LOrds in Zangar is the spot. 5 primals in just over an hour for me. LIttle competition and fast respawn. Couple of nodes in the vicinity for miners too>
Rotting Forest-Rager 83% drop What a lie
56, 66 and 60, 61 in zangermarsh is the best place to farm. Low lvl mobs all clustered together with a high drop rate. Aoe farming is extreamly efficient here.
I've been finding quite a different picture; I've been farming Motes of Life for my nature resist gear for the past two weeks and have tracked a pretty stable 10% drop rate from the Bog Lords in ZM (both locations). I was turning over about 1 Primal Life every half hour as a protection pally, but a DPS class could do it much faster.
I found watching the television while farming makes it that much easier :-)
PS: be warned when AOE grinding; the starved mobs do a stacking debuff that hurts quite alot once it stacks 5 times.
After been grinding Starving Fungal Giants and Starving Bog Lords for like half an hour I only have got a single Mote of Life. What is going on? The Bog Lords in Quagg Ridge was nice to grind in patch 2.3. Have blizzard changed the drop rate to like 5%? In the same among of time I could get around 4-5 Primal Water (40-50 Mote of Water) in Elemental Platue just by grinding elementals and fishing. And now I can't even use my Mote Extractor in Zangarmarsh go get Mote of Life, as of patch 2.3 Zangarmarsh nodes gives Mote of Water too. Is there any good way to farm for Mote of Life now? Or do I have to trasmute to get them?
If you dont got herbalism...where is the best place to farm mote of life?
yeah I think the drop rates went down a LOT in 2.3 or 2.4 for ALL the motes... I tried farming some water barely got 1 in half an hour, same with earth and wind, fire actually got me one in 20minutes... Mote of Life got me two luckyly in 40 minutes
I've killed a good 200 tried 2 places and no mote :S bugged? im on dreadmaul realm.
Another great place to get Motes of Life is in Terokkar Forest near Allerian Stronghold or Stonebreaker Hold. The trees drop them, but an herbalist can get a lot from those trees.
Something that surprisingly no-ones mentioned is that the Spawning Grounds and Quagg Ridge are a great place to farm these if you wish to get your Sporregar (spelling?) reputation up at the same time, killing 2 penguins with one stone.
in Skettis are somewhat tough but a good place to herb-skin for motes. They generally give 2-5 motes and 2-3 other herbs like Felweed and Mana Thistle. But they're immune to nature damage like many elementals so Boomkins and Shamans beware.
Note: Skettis is only accessable by flying.
I'm surprised that no one mentioned the Spawning Glen. It has great respawn rates, and there are plenty of giants. Plus you get Sporeggar reputation.
Trying to farm these of the Forest Ravagers listed as top mob to drop this and they don't drop any loot. I will try the suggestion for Zangarmarsh. Happy hunting folks!
It seems like neither "Dealer Najeeb" or "Dealer Tariq" sell Mote of Life.
Farmed the dead mire today on my 90 mage for about an hour and got absolutely 0 motes of life. I am also an herbalist... not making any claims as far as the change in drop rate but I'm just saying... 4/18/13 patch 5.3
EASIEST METHOD! HEROIC UNDERBOG!
I used my lvl 90 druid, went into heroic underbog and got 36 motes in one run that took less than 15 minutes, skipped the non herbalist threats and picked the variety of flowers present. I then did one short partial of regular underbog to get my last 14. easy 50 motes in 20 minutes. needed them for zapthrottle mote extractor.
The best place I found to farm these is...
The Underbog: Heroic.
Kill and loot all the Underbats, Bog Lords and "Underbog" mobs BEFORE first boss DO NOT KILL THE BOSS!.
Kill and loot the Bog Lords and Underbats AFTER the boss (you can skip him by walking to the left) they do not spawn much if at all beyond the ramp up into the next zone.
Then you jump/run out, use of a glider is handy and then reset the dungeon. Providing you haven't messed up and killed the boss you can just re-enter and repeat.
Many motes me hearties, far superior to mob grinding in Zangarmarsh.
It looks like these are not dropping for herbalists anymore. Spent 1/2 looking for herbs in Zangarmarsh and not a single mote dropped off anything.
Tried herbing nodes around Outland - no luck. Tried herbing bog lords in heroic Underbog - nothing. Killing the Forest-Ragers in Skettis is ok but there's only three up at a time and the respawn timer is long. As of right now, I've had the best luck with herbing the
in Serpentshrine Cavern. The motes are a guaranteed drop and you can get between 2-5 motes per mob.
The best place to farm these is the first part of Underbog in Zangarmarsh. Do the loop past the first boss (don't kill the first boss!) and then jump down into the water to go back to the beginning and reset. I got 10-30 motes each lap from all the trash.
After 30 mins of farming the Dead Mire in the northeast corner of Zangermarsh with my 116 lvl herbing druid I came away with :
34g worth of vendor trash
4 green items
95 random herbs
I did see 1 green gas cloud for those engineers who can extract them
I then went into hc Underbog and farmed the lower part before the first boss (do not kill boss), lots of herbing, killing, "skinning" and resetting for 30 mins and I came away with:
107g worth of vendor trash
14 green items
55 random herbs
Conclusion: the Underbog seems the way to go, words of advice obviously take a herber someone with an increased run speed, make sure your bags are empty and use
straight away and not 28 minutes into gathering once you remember you have loads in your bags like i did /facepalm.
Hope this helps.
