Level 70 version of Large Brilliant Shard (needed on most enchants), but unlike small and large brilliants, you can turn 3 Small Prismatic Shards
into a 1 Large Prismatic Shard. Smalls can be acquired from lvl 58+ blue items.
Just as a word of advice to fellow Jewelcrafters:
If you're in need of these, Braided Eternium Chains are relatively cheap to make, and guaranteed LPS (or apparently Void Crystals on occasion now!)
As a tailor from disencahnting imbued netherweave robe/tunic i always get one shard and atm i have 11 with many more to come
This item is gained from Disenchanting Lvl 65+ Blues. Items from 61-64 may have a chance to disenchant into this, but will usually DE into a small prismatic.
These shards are great money makers. Best way I know of to go about it, is as stated above with Imbued netherweave.... they usually sell on my server if you look enough for as cheap as 10-12G... buy it, DE it, sell the shard a 15+.
Just check the AH daily for 65+ rares. Will always be some up cheaper then the price of a shard...
As of patch 2.2 you can now "shatter" Large Prismatic Shards to 3 Small Prismatic Shards
For those who like to gather their own reagents, here's a personal favorite method of farming these shards, among other things. It involves a Miner on a swift flying mount, an Enchanter, a Tailor, and a Jewelcrafter. If you have alts with these trade skills, you're in great shape. Otherwise, get assistance from a friend. The Miner is the most critical.
Large Prismatic Shards
of the many lucrative byproducts of this process. You'll also receive...
Greater Planar Essence
A swift mount helps cover a lot of ground, accelerating the gathering process. My favorite area is Terrokar Forest. There are nearly equal quantities of
. Mining provides a moderate quantity of
Motes of Earth
, and a few
Motes of Fire
Mining nodes appear on the rocky terrain surrounding the large regions of the forests, the periphery of Bone Wastes, and the broken rocky edges of the region, at the south, and southwest. With a well-planned route, you can hit every node on the map in about 20 minutes. My route takes me by Shattrath. When the bags start filling up, mail all ore, Primal Earth and gems to your Jewelcrafter.
Prospect ALL the Adamanatite. It provides Uncommon Gems, Rare Gems and Adamantite Powder. (I typically get 1-2 rare gems per stack of Adamantite ore.) The Powder can be combined with Primal Earth to make
. The red, blue, yellow, and green Uncommon Gems can be combined with Fel Iron to make a few very low-cost
, which can be disenchanted.
Balance your supply of Fel Iron Ore with gems. Prospect Fel Iron Ore, as needed. Ideally, you'll use nearly all the ore and gems, except orange (
), and purple (
) gems. Excess quantites of these gems can be sold to a vendor for 25s each. (Better yet, send them to guild members, who are leveling Jewelcrafting. They'll appreciate it!)
Disenchant the rings into Arcane Dust, Lesser Planar Essences, or the rare Small Prismatic Shard. Send all Arcane dust to the Tailor.
Anyone can farm or buy large volumes of
. Send those immediately to the tailor. Use the cloth and Arcane dust to make
. Send those back to the enchanter.
The bracers will almost always disenchant into a Large Prismatic Shard, or around a 1/500 chance of a Void Crystal.
Pattern: Arcanoweave Bracers
drops from the
. That's the ONLY difficult part of this chain. The Jewelcrafter's rings are all trained. The highest requires 320. An enchanter of 300+ can disenchant all of these items.
This is a little complex, but it allows you to enhance the value of ordinary farming, by producing reagents worth far more than the source materials.
I'd stopped selling Adamantite ore, when experience showed that the prospect value was more than double the AH value of ore. Fel Iron and Uncommon Gems are also very cheap. Converting them into enchanting reagents doubles or triples their value.
Arguably, the Arcane Dust may have an Auction House value equal, or greater than the shard. You might be able to sell dust, and buy shards, but the dust market is very full, and sales are unpredictable. I much prefer cloth + dust = guaranteed shard. :)
* * *
If the intent is purely on making money, consider buying Uncommon Gems, rather than Prospecting any Fel Iron Ore. Prospecting 5x ore typically gives you 2-3 Uncommon Gems, and
Fel Iron Powder
. That's about half the value of the ore that was destroyed. Buy gems. Buy ore. DE the Jewlecrafter rings.
Additionally, purchase Adamantite Ore on the AH. You can buy 20g of ore, and get 40-80g of gems out of it.
I'd still recommend converting cloth & dust into shards. The dust market is always very full, and quite competitive. However, there's never been any difficulty in selling a shard, when needed.
This Mat drops from items that require lvl 275 enchanting and over.
instead of the arcanoweave bracers suggested it is a much easier way, and exactly the same mats to make
Imbued Netherweave robe
, this is no instance drop like arcanoweave, but sold by a vendor in SmV
Also as of this moment (roughly a few weeks after 2.3 and the introduction of season 1 gear for honor) the price of shards has risen substantially to up to 50g on some servers. This widens the spectrum of possible crafts immensely, as it starts to include: braided eternium chain, imbued netherweave items, maybe felsteel gloves, that would depend on server prices of felsteel. I'm sure I forgot a few.
Just curious-does anyone know whether you can gain enchanting skill from this? If so, it seems like an extremely efficient way to get 5-10 points up.
The Wow version of SoJ (Stone of Jordan).
The prices on my server have doubled in a few months time.
de'd off some green OL pants today. so the from list isn't 100%.
Edited for Patch 2.4.2.
As of Patch 2.4, two Large Prismatic Shards will be obtainable via Enchanting, by "shattering" a Void Crystal. Long overdue, I must say. :)
At Level 375 Enchanting, you can pick up
after being Honored with the Shattered Sun Offensive. Requires Runed Eternium Rod.
24 Hour Cooldown.
Cooldown as been Removed.
Removed the cooldown from Void Shatter.
Void Shatter recipe now correctly requires 375 enchanting.
Void shatter has not done much to drop the price down of large prismatic shards. It's such a high demand item that even if you flood the AH they all would get bought up and we would go back to the high prices again.
At least we can get 2 LPS per void crystal.
All blue items above iLvl 100 will make a Large Prismatic Shard, thoose 99 and under will make lesser. Dont know how far up it goes, but would guess all the outland rares with over iLvl 100
Back to the original question: Where do Large or Small prismatic Shards come from? I am a newbie to enchanting. Is there a recipe to convert Large to Small Prismatic or Small to Large Prismatic, where are these recipes?
As of 4.3 the easiest way to get Large Prismatic Shards is to go to
in Orgrimmar and buy
and disenchant them. They cost 100 honor points each :)
Easiest way to get these isnt to DE right and left my dear wowheaders ;) get the pattern from the vendor on Isle of Quel'Danas (or check if a guildie got it) and shatter away all your Void Crystals (I know I had about 180 of those on a bankalt, no idea why). Check also the prices of both on your AH if you want to make a profit or don't have them hamstered away like I did :D
If you're need these in large supply, the quickest way is to either run BC instances that drop 100+ ilevel blues (anythign less will drop small prismatics), or to get the void shatter recipe.
To get the void shatter recipe, go to the Isle of Quel'Danas. Run Magister's Terrace 3 times on normal, once on Heroic. You will need to do the quest Hard to Kill in order to do Heroic difficulty. Purchase the void shatter recipe on the isle, then run Kharazhan or similar for the void crystals. Again, I only recommend if you need a LARGE supply of crystals.
Disenchanted from Rare (blue) items with an item level of 100 to 115 (Required level 65 - 70)
Disenchanted from Uncommon (green) items with an item level of 100 to 120 (~3% chance)
Can be created from 3x
Can be created from a
Items that disenchant into Large Prismatic Shards are found from:

Any thoughts on what to do with these in WoD? I can't do anything with void crystals, so I usually shatter them into Large Prismatic Shards. But now I have a bunch of these and can't do anything with them either..
