Drops uncommonly from Blackwing technicians in Blackwing Lair. Used to make many high level pieces of equipment including the legendary Thunderfury
from smelted Elementium (requiring large amounts of arcanite bars) and the elementium reinforced equipment from The Temple of Ahn'Qiraj:
The droprate is aprox 8%. Also make sure you have large amounts of Arcanite as every bar requires 10 of them.
You need Elementium bar x10 which means you need Elementium ore x10, thorium bar x100, arcane crystal x100 (to make the Arcanite bar) Fiery Core x10 elemental flux x30 just for the Elementium!! You also need Essence of the Fire Lord which has a 0.8 % chance of dropping from Ragnaros. Then both sides of the Bindings of the Windseeker. The left side drops from Baron Geddon at a rate of 2%! The right side drops from Garr at a rate of 3%! If you want that sword your REALY gonna have to work for it!!!
The bug where Krixis was not teaching players 'Smelt Elementium' has been fixed.
According to Blizzard Poster Maaven, a fix will be applied come 3.0.8
Any idea for how much these would sell, considering WOTLK is released and people are farming this content for achievements and fun.
anyone can tell me how many of those drop peer run ?
Having a priest MC does NOT allow you to teach the skill anymore. Instead, Master Elemental Shaper Krixix (
) drops ONE book that teaches the skill when killed and requires 300 mining to learn, and the book is BoP.
Can't find the book on wowhead, but it is "Krixix's Guide to Mining: Smelt Elementium"
I tried to get the elementium ores for Thunderfury by killing the technicians and leaving the instance to reset the pack, but in hundreds kills (>200), I haven't seen any ore drop... Does anyone have the same issue? It's getting pretty annoying, these ores have no real value on the market, it is only required for the damn sword - as well as AQ weps, but who really cares - so why would a restriction have been put to the farming of this ? ...
None of us is a miner, then maybe it's got something to do with it? I also killed Krixxix (twice) and seen no book drop. I suggest it's like the new BoE recipes that can only be rolled by, say, tailors for the new lumberjack shirts patterns.
Any information would be appreciated, thanks !
Went back in with the same ID of the instance with my deathknight (who's a miner) - after the instance had been soft-reset - , killed Krixxix again, and he dropped the book (that's called "Goblin's Guide to Elementium", but this item doesn't appear on Wowhead, but still, exists.)
You also need 10 Elementium Ore to do the old quest chain for the legendary AQ mount. I put together a BWL raid last night and in the goblin pulls our raid got 2 ore. About the mining book, yes, I can confirm it is BoP to miners only. My cousin was the only miner in our raid and the book only appeard to him.
I had a BWL run yestoday, there were 2 ore dropped, and I was loot master, but i couldn't give it to anyone even myself, woz wrong with that ? and after like 2 min, those ore disappeared, i was waited like 2 hours, the 2 mobs corpse still there, but i didnt see anything :( does anyone know how does this happen?
Have been farming Ore in 3.0.3. (vanishing instead of running out but nvm) First time I did this way I got 4 ores. And yea, I clearly remember that I got 4th ore some time after soft resetting (got 3 ore as well previously). Now (3.0.8) another ID I got 3 ores and none dropping for 300+ pulls (yes life!)). Can't believe i'm so unlucky : /
Anyway, I'm getting my last 3 ores after ID reset...
Want to mention that I killed Kirixxix for like 10 time by now and no book. Yea, you have to be a miner in this case I think.
EDIT: After a soft reset I usually attack a warlock in pack, then vanish. (still vanish cd is 2 mins, same as mentioned time up there to be waited for goblins to reappear) Goblins appeared again, gl in farming :)
Went with a pug the other day, made it to Firemaw, didn't kill him. 2 Elementium ore dropped off the goblins, I got both. Went in the next day, killed the same goblins, and 3 dropped. Tried again today, none dropped. Tried pulling different sets of mobs to no avail.
After reading other posts, I have come to the conclusion that only 5 ore drop per raid lockout. Can someone clarify this?
I can Confirm that When you Kill the Tecs and Leave/Vanish/FeintDeath/etc. and they respawn you CAN kill them again and receive the Elementium. Killed the same 6 Tecs 11 Times and on the 12 It dropped the first ore... You do the math.
Did them 142 Times to get 10 Ores, So You can take more than 5 per run... ( Please don't link me the 6 Mins malygos achievement) :)
I got a few member from my guild to help me kill Broodlord Lashlayer, then I proceeded to pull the first pack of 6 technicians and 2 warlocks to farm the elementium ore...
The techinicians will drop the ore even if they are reset, but you can only recieve a certain amount of ore per raid ID. I got 8 ore in a half hour, and then nothing for 2 hours before I gave up.
Not really worth farming, the instance these drop in has a ton of high end bosses which is difficult to do with anything less than 5x 80s (not to mention the very first room of the lair has a boss with 400k health with a ton of adds and a sub boss with 60k health).
Not worth the effort to farm it.
good luck soloing BWL, just saying that you would solo it shows that you haven't done it. hell, i had the unfortunate experience of going with a bad pug at 80 who tried to faceroll it down, they succeeded until the drakes, when a huntard pulled all the trash and tanked it in the middle of the room. and then pulled the drake.
Running a BWL for a guildy got 6 ores
People are unlucky and you directly think it has something to do with being a miner or maximum amount /run... It's bull$%^&! It's like when people thought the Blue Proto- Drake from UP had higher chance to drop if you were exalted with the Argent Crusade.
Random is random, RNG (RandomNumberGeneration) doesn't always make you happy, but so what? It has a low drop rate like many other items in the game.
For example you can get Hyacinth Macaw in your first pirate, and mayhaps you won't get it in 1 million kills. :)
Warning for reset-style farmers: Goblins despawn after a softreset of the instance, so farm them in one go.
Pretty sure this is the only Ore you can use, but can't Mine. Wish there was a different way of getting this, it would take years to get 10 of these unless you run BWL with a small amount of people willing to pass it all to you.
Elementium ore is one of the reasons why players buy chinese gold. >:( *sarcasm*
It's so hard to find a group for it, especially when you rather it to be guildies to help you and pass on the ores to you. Pugs= loot drama. Players sell one ore at sky high prices, it's not even funny. I have farmed BWL and have not seen one ore drop at all, even with my being the master looter. And yes, it would be nice if Blizzard made it possible to get the ores from somewhere else other than just BWL. I have the worst luck when it comes to these ores.
For those who don't know, Elementium is created as a result of the chaotic magic of the elemental lords and their troops. With the upcoming introduction of Deepholm and Skywall as available zones, it is possible that elementium might receive a repeat appearance.
There is something going on here with drop rates. Let me explain:
I organised a BWL raid on my hunter. We cleared first pack and pack on stairs for someone who needed Draconian for Dummies. No Elementium dropped from these 2 packs. We went on and killed Nefarian. 15 minutes later I thought I'd try farming up some ore for the AQ quest chain. I focused on the caster because of her annoying polymorph ability, then the 2 warlocks and then the Technicians, leaving the warrior for the soft reset via dismissing pet and then FDing.
Additional factors of raid that may or may not be relevant. It was only level 80s (I don't think that matters). When I started farming I was the only 1 left online still in the raid (this might be relevant). Some of the raid weren't attuned and were lock summoned in and some ran through via UBRS but had not finished their attunement (this also may be relevant).
I tried 3 different packs, 3 times each and then a few extra times on one pack for luck and not one Elementium Ore dropped. Now, I know statistically I could run it a bazillion times and not get a drop but probability wise having no drops is statistically speaking very small indeed. ie 12 times 10 Technicians = 120 technicians with approx. 10% drop rate (according to Wowhead) and not a single ore? Come on, it sure seems like something else is affecting drop rates other than simple probability and RNG.
So ... lets see if we can piece together what is going on and why some people report normal drop rates for first X ores and then nothing for 2 hours and 20 resets.
On BDF realm this ore is super rare and valuable because nobody on the realm even knows what BWL is or how to get inside it. So if you want to make insane gold bring about 40 ores to BDF and sell them for 2k gold a unit and I promise you they will fly off the shelfs.
I had killed a techincan who died in a wall with the Ore. I was able to roll, but never recieved the item.
The corpse just kept layin there. I had 2 ores drop in 4packs before this, and the next
pulls gave nothing(This is when i noticed the corpse still laying there) I decided to softreset the instance(Left BWL, and came back ~1hour later), as the bugged mob prolly still had the ore, altho he wasn't shiny or anything - but he didn' despawn! And they usually despawn incredible quick!
I then did
pulls(same amount, making it easier for calculations) and i still recieved nothing....
Then I got alittle $%^&ed. Am i just %^&*ing horribly unlucky? Or does a corpse in the wall with an ore screw everything up? hmm...
"Only wowhead comment regarding this"
In the end we got 3(1 despawned in the wall :( ), and had no luck after that. Today, the first packs didn't respawn, and we've farmed some, and have yet to see any more elementium. We also killed Firemaw because we didn't know about its link to goblin respawns >.<
- Looks like it so far...
Decided to Right Click my icon, press the reset instance because... Why not?
packs, Then i gave up. 2nd time i'd leave with reddies, giving me 81g + 62g repair. 143g repair approx.
I soloed broodlord & firemaw + money from trash and such, so i didn't get a minus on my gold.
At the moment your reading this, my current conclusion is;
"A mob having an ore, while dying in a wall, making it unachieveable, bugs everything"
Hourglass Sand so far: 156 :D
I will be updating this post, and hopefully we'll figure out some kind of pattern, if it aren't just RNG
24 hours after leaving yesterday i returned. I did 20 more packs, then i stopped. Decided to ask a friend if i could borrow his paladin.
I logged in, entered BWL and ofc he was a a whole new raid. Pull 1,2,5,8 gave me ores..
So I'm almost 100% positive, that if a mob dies in a wall with an ore that raid ID will be bugged!
One step closer to solve the mysteries of the Elementium! ;)
i just cleared BWL, as master looter, we got 2 ores.
To the people that had ores drop from resetted packs, do you kill
of the technicians every pull? Because my observations seem to indicate that every mob is assigned an epic at the first moment someone zones in (remember, that was used to check BT instances for glaves before anyone else in the battlegroup logged on that had a glaive, if you didn't DC then either the instance ID had glaves in them or someone in your battlegroup had logged on with them).
And it was also confirmed by a blue that loot is generated the moment the mob spawns, not when it is killed.
This would confirm everyone's experiences here. The people that got ores from the second/third reset probably didn't kill all the technicians and had ores drop from technicians that hadn't been killed before.
I myself cleared the same pack 10+ times and only had an ore drop the first time. But when I killed the spellbinder (which I had not killed before) she actually dropped an epic BOP axe. Confirming that resetting doesn't delete the epics, you just only have one shot at it per mob in the pack, no matter how many times you reset and kill it.
This makes no sense at all.
Last night, my group attempted to farm ore using the existing strategy of killing all goblins in the first pack but one and resetting the encounter.
Our first attempt we took too long getting back and all the bodies had reset.
Our second attempt we got one ore.
Our third, fourth, fifth, and sixth attempts yielded nothing.
We killed the exact same goblins every time because we had one marked. Nothing changed.
Our seventh attempt yielded one ore!
And the next 30 gave us nothing. I don't understand what would have caused this to happen.
The next day I got back in and the goblins were all missing from the pack despite my leaving one alive every time. I attempted to pull the second pack in the room successfully and when I wiped, ALL goblins reset, including the first pack.
I've been farming this for the past couple of days due to it being the last parts of the Thunderfury quest chain that I need before getting the sword. A group cleared BWL and I used thier ID to get in and saw all the packs of goblins up. I don't know if they skipped any of them, but all of the packs were there. I have been 2 boxing a prot warrior and a shadow priest to kill the goblins. Then running out.
The first pack by the alchemy lab dropped 2 ores. I have pulled that group repeatedly for the better part of 2 hours. No other ores dropped. I pulled the group on the stairs 3 times and no ores. I am not going to say that the theroy of respawned packs don't drop ores or not, but so far, I haven't had any luck. I am going to go back again shortly to keep farming them. I need 7 more ores. I'll post if I do happen to get anymore ores on this raid ID.
**Update**: I've pulled 6 packs of goblins. The Alchemy Lab 4 times, the pack on the stairs and the pack on top of the stairs 1 time each. No Ores. I might try a few more packs before I call it a night.
Cataclysm Profession Preview
Elementium is the new uncommon mineral found when mining in Cataclysm, and can contain gems, Volatile Fire, Volatile Water, or Volatile Earth.
Previous Elementium Ore and Bar used for classic quests will be renamed to Elementium Ingot and Hardened Elementium Bar.
Reseting really doesn't seem to work.
Over the last few days, I''ve spent numerous hours trying to solo-farm the ore in various ways. I guess I'll just give a short list of the facts that lead me to believe, that that farming elementium (by reseting the technicians) is ineffective:
# I looted a total of 14 stacks of Runecloth (i.e. 320 pieces)
# I looted a total of 156 pieces of Hourglass Sand
# I looted a total of 0 (zero, null, nada) Elementium Ore.
# I tried killing the packs, looting, running out and reseting, killing them again and so on
# I tried the "10 minute methode" a couple of times - i.e. staying outside / logging out for 10 minutes for the instance to reset (required another reset of the packs since the technicians disappear)
# whenever I did the 10minute-reset, I also killed Krixix
# The character I was attempting to farm with was present and participating in all bosskills
# The other packs we killed (regularly, while running through the instance) yielded a total of 2 ores, therefore speculations on having reached a potential
Therefore, whatever some people may be saying about the
of the ore, the more reliable and faster way seems to be arranging a new group and killing those technicians the regular way.
Alright, there is a lot of misinformation and/or outdated information that is still highly rated in this thread so please allow me to clarify:
First and foremost, it is impossible to farm an infinite amount of elementium ore from a single Raid ID. While nobody knows exactly how it works, it seems that there is a set amount of ore that drops per Raid ID. It
drop from respawned technicians.
It is unclear to me exactly how much ore can drop per Raid ID. I was personally able to get 6 by only farming the first group past Broodlord before it stopped dropping for me (Killed that first group about 15 more times and then the rest without a drop). By farming I mean, I was killing all the technicians, leaving the other mobs alive, zoning out, and then zoning back in and looting the corpses. All the mobs in the group will respawn if you leave at least one mob alive and zone out. Perhaps 6 is the 'cap' or perhaps the amount of ore that can drop per Raid ID is random. That would require more testing to say for sure.
In any case, the safest way to maximize your elementium ore is to farm the first group after Broodlord until you believe that you have reached your 'cap' for that particular Raid ID. If you clear the group 10 times without a drop, it's probably safe to assume you reached the cap. The reason you would do this instead of just killing all the groups right away is that, it may be possible to kill all the groups without reaching your 'cap' for that Raid ID.
It will be renamed to Elementium Ingot to make room for the new uncommon ore in Cataclysm
After many attempts to continue farming this item by solo killing the packs of technicians that remained in a completed raid and receiving no ores at all I decided to talk to a GM
My method was like the one described here; if some packs of technicians survived after clearing the raid (or up to Firemaw like in my case) they won't despawn as long as you reset the combat against them (by using a vanish/feigh death type ability or running out of the instance like in my case) and at least 1 from the group remains alive. I got 4 ores this way, around 1 every pull i did, but after the fourth I never got another drop no matter what. I keep trying around an hour and half to see if another ore drop, but eventually gave up and decided to talk to a GM to see if some if the theories written here are true and the instance has a hard cap of ores or something.
Indeed it has. The GM told me that the drop is designed this way so after an undertermined number of drops (you can't know how many) the raid ID won't drop any more ores so they cannot be farmed. He didn't know the reason of why it works this way other than "it was the developers' decision that this item cannot be farmed". I asked if there was a way to know when the item would stop dropping and he said "when you don't see it drop anymore :)", so there is no way to know when is bad RNG and when is the cap reached other than by intuition.
Here is the conversation with the GM. Its in spanish, I won't translate it because it would be too much text for anyone to read, but feel free to do it yourself if you don't believe me :) If more spanish speaking people could confirm it would be great though
Hope this helps you all, good luck
Cleared whole instance today, didn't kill 4 goblin packs, and after a few hours I came back killed goblins in each pack and then soft reseted the packs by running away from the instance. The first pack dropped an ore, and when I re-entered the instance I killed the same pack again and it dropped another ore.
Killed the other packs atleast 2 times each and no more ores dropped.. this %^&* really is weird, there probably really is a hardcap on how many ores can drop from one raid ID.
I've recently been farming (dual-boxing) the ore and as previous posters have stated, there appears to be a random limit on how many ores you can get per raid ID. I've had 6 drop in one raid but in another one had 4 drop before they stopped. These were obtained by farming the packs just inside Firemaw's room (kill all techs and then reset by vanish, death/rez). I can confirm that ores drop off the respawned technicians but once the 'limit' is reached, no more ores will drop.
Just wanted to add in here that on 31.08.2010 we (a group of 5 lvl80s) cleared the whole instance (all mobs) and did not have a single elementium ore drop. FML I guess :)
IMO There's a limit to the ore drop per Raid-ID, but it is quite random itself.
It seam to be 5 for me this time, seen many others ppl locked at 5. Some others say 8.
Random is random ok... but when many many ppl witness the same thing (can't drop any ore after a certain amount dropped) the "random theory" get improbable.
Elementium Ingot is the new name for Elementium Ore. Why it was changed I do not know but Im sure you came here looking for that answer.
I have a question about the ingot drop mechanics.
What I usually do is clear the first 3 bosses then log off for a few hours. When I return the supressors in the supressor room have all despawned. I then proceed to farm the first or second goblin pack for the ingots.
My question is since there is a limited drop per ID, am I losing out on ingots because I let the entire instance "reset" by leaving for a few hours. Basically if goblin A had an ingot in his drop "pocket" but then he despawned by soft reset, does goblin A's respawn have the ingot again? Or did the initial spawn put a -1 counter on my ID limit and I simply didn't loot it when he actually had it?
Can confirm this is still farmable as of 4.0.1.
Had a look at how to farm these last week, from what people have said in the comments...seemed to be "Kill all mobs -> Leave raid & Wait 30 minutes -> Enter -> Clear mobs"...this does NOT work.
Basically, you are meant to kill all the technicians in a pack, and leave the rest, you CAN pull multiple packs.
Meaning as long as you don't kill, for example..all the warlocks in a pack, the pack can still reset.
The only two ways that seems to work are: (From a solo'ing point of view)
1: Pull a few packs, I personally pull the packs along the side wall of the alchemy lab and near the door. (Anymore seems to be over-kill for me) Kill all technicians, loot. After that...you simply just die, this will cause all mobs to reset instantly..re-enter the raid...kill mobs...die...repeat.
2: Personally not tried this way myself, but seems to work by the looks of the comments. Same method as above, but instead of dying...simply leave the raid, wait 30 minutes (Soft Reset), return and kill mobs.
Considering the Elementium per raid ID theory, there does seem to be some truth to it.
Last week, cleared all packs...got 3 ingots, had a few more clears and got nothing.
This week, cleared all packs...got 2 ingots, another one dropped though it was unlootable...and the mob was not in a wall.
If the "total Elementium per raid ID" theory is true, then that could explain why sometimes you'll get Elementium that's unlootable. Say you kill all the technicians in a pack before looting them. They should all have a chance to drop Elementium. But once you reach the ID's cap, then they'd become unlootable and "bug out". This has happened to me twice so far, and from the comments here, it's happened to other people as well.
Everyone's comments ultimately lead to the same conclusion: You might get an extra ingot or two, but you will not be able to go back to this place throughout the week and sack 20 ores from 200 goblins. If such were the case, it would've been nerfed in the time BWL has been open.
I dident got any Elementium Ingot, since two BWL raids now. Some of my friends too (different raids).
So, I am not 100% sure but they removed the drop or at least made a major lower chance to drop since the 4.0.1, or maybe bug?
today a GM confirmed in an ingame ticked i have send that is a fixed number of drops per raid ID but could not let me know the exact number.my guess is that this number is generated when a group generates a new Raid ID by geting saved to the raid instance although i cant confirm it.i have encountered numbers from 2 to 5 ingots in different raid saves
also ingots drops from respawned mobs
also what i do in order to farm them is (for hunters only) i pull an engineer kill him and then Feign Death the pack resets the tecnician you killed respawns and you can still loot the dead one lying on the floor.if you enter and you see no tecnicians in the pack simply hit any mob alive and FD they will reapear.
Prices might not be up on your server, but they are on mine. Alot. Like 5-6 times more, now they sell for 1500-1800g, old price was 3-500g.
Reason for this is that the AQ Q-chain will become a FoS.
15K-18K on Ingot's alone to complete this Q....hmmmmm
If you clear the entire instance, the only mob that respawns after a soft reset is the master mining goblin.
A friend of mine went into bwl to get some ingots. There were 7 drops but only got 3. He made a ticket and after a while GM contacted him about the ticket. GM looked at logs and saw that only 3 actually dropped. Other drops were duplicates (as in rolls initiated the same milisecond so that basically there were 2 or more rolls for one ingot according to the logs).
At that point he asked him if theres a cap on the drops of elementium ingots per raid ID. He linked him some of the pictures with GM conversations of the cap (in this topic). GM said there were 2 supervising GM's and 4 other fellow GM's present and that they heard of the cap for the first time and that there is no such cap, only low random chance. In his words: all mobs (technicians) have a chance to drop one (if he meant one as referring to ingots or literally one and no more we will never know :P, and it doesnt matter anyway considering theres 60+ technicians).
On the other hand, we made 2 more runs. On one run we killed all the bosses but ignored the packs, on the other run we killed all the bosses till chromaguss (or whatever the name of the dog) and also ignored the pack.
When other ppl left, we returned with me as priest and him as rogue on first raid id. Killed everything except spellbinders/warlocks on all packs. First time no ingots dropped, ran out and back in. Second run we got one ingot dropping. Ran out, back in, got nothing again, then on forth clear we got 2 ingots dropping and then nothing again for 6 clears.
Then i moved on my second raid id (dk). On first try I have soloed first pack (same reset mechanic as before) got 1 ingot. Then i soloed first 3 packs and got no ingots 5 times in a row. On the sixth pull i got 2 more ingots drop. Then i did 4-5 more pulls and no ingots dropped again. Ill continue to try today and see if any additional ingots drop in any raid ID.
According to GM (and his 2 supervisors and 4 other fellow GM's ) on Mazrigos, there is no cap on the drops, only very small random chance that it does drop.
According to my limited number of pulls (10 +- 5) there is a cap of 3 on my 2 raid ID's. Since my background in physics i know 15 runs is nothing and to base any theory on these 15 runs is to say the least idiotic.
Statistic requires 100+ runs to confirm the drop rate/debunk the cap/whatever on both ID's but thats practically impossible (have only few hours of time per day).
Ill keep in touch.
Just a heads-up, Now that Razorgore is bugged last night I had a GM open the gate so I could continue through BWL but didn't get a single Ingot. I thought maybe it was just down to bad luck so I killed the techicians on the last pack and reset them a few times but still, nothing.
Maybe it has something to do with when you kill Razorgore it randomly generates the Ingot cap along with the Raid-ID. But it seems if you have a GM opening the gate for you, chances are you might not get any Ingots, either that or I'm just too unlucky :)
Well I've been trying to get the last few for my Thunderfury for the last couple weeks. Last week, I got one to drop, looted fine, then two dropped at once, both were glitched and "You cannot loot that item now." I put in a ticket and the GM got the items back to me. I had continued to kill and reset the techs at that point and was having no luck with drops.
3 Ingots in ~50 then none for ~750 techs.
I put in another ticket to talk to a GM about possible caps per raid id or bug. They informed me there is no cap per ID, nor was there a bug, I escalated the ticket, and that GM also confirmed that there is no cap and no bug. So I went back in and killed more techs.
By the end of last week I killed about 800 techs, got 3 ore in the first 50 kills and none past the bugged 2. I talked to no less than 5 GMs, each said there is no cap, and no bugs, "Random is random."
Now for this week, 2 ore in ~50 kills, second one bugged, ticket is in for item retrieval. Going to kill a few more pulls while I wait for the ticket to be answered and see if I can get more drops, bugged or not.
I ran BWL last week and received a total of 3 ingots from the instance. I did not do any soft resets or have the goblins spawn multiple times.
I ran this week and we saw 7 ingots drop. The 7th ingot appeared, it was rolled on, but was never put in my bag after I won it. The body was no longer sparkly after the roll. It appears that 6 is the hard limit (unless it happened to glitch at a rather interesting time). I have submitted a ticket and will update once it is answered.
Edit: Why was this down rated? Until it is found to be true or untrue, this post is relevant.
The GM got back to me and I was mailed the 7th ingot.
I did raid BWL this weekend 3 ingots dropped (sadly i didn´t win any) and only 2 was awarded the winners, we couldn´t find the body as the corpses despawned rather fast O.o Maybe a cap maybe a glitch we never found out as we were pretty pissed at the member who won it was like give me 10g cause thats whats its worth..i bet that fool would have vendored it..But i think it was a glitch tbh
Think the drops have something to do with razorgore the untamed. I have done BWL 3 times and two of the times i wiped on razorgore and got no ingot drops. the third time i killed him first time and had 3 ingots drop off the trash. may have just been coinsidence but this may help.
Over 500 or so killed the past 3 weeks and nothing has dropped.
Went in a pug last night and not one of them killed the technictians!
Needless to say i stayed quiet, went back later and got myself 5 ignots whoooo!
Today I went to BWL, cleared everything. 1 Elementium Ingot dropped. I waited outside the raid for soft reset. After 45min i went inside and creeps were still lying there. I zoned out, and after 55min from BWL clear I went in again and nothing was inside, not even small drakes, not even slowing traps, not even corpses. In the meantime i went out from BWL, i got invited for a raid from guild.. but when i tried to zone in BWL again, exactly 1 hour from first clear, it told me that I am already saved from Blackwing Lair 40, so I can't zone in. So possible a new way to prevent farming on 4.0.6?
You can also get really unlucky and not have any Ingots drop from any of the mobs; this has happened to me this week. We are still learning how to farm this. I can confirm that once you clear the Raid, nothing respawns expect Master Elemental Shaper Krixix. So next week we are not dropping the Dragons and being a little more careful how we pull. You can farm him for the Ingots from Krixix but the drop rate is low.
I've finished farming this weeks ago, but still gonna post to help someone.
Once you made soft reset of the instance technicians will not drop any ingots, if you want to farm it there is 2 successful ways:
- farm technicians right after you cleared bwl (by just running out, without being outside for a long time);
- just do BWL in a usual way, since anyone can 2man it now till Chromaggus getting your ingots will not take more than few weeks anyway.
And yes, there is some kind of cap for ingots per raid id, so if you're not getting anything after some pulls - just dont waste your time.
After doing Razorgore the Untamed, which seems to be very glitchy once a while, the adds continue to respond even after killing him. The only way to fix it is to run out and reset all dungeons. Getting to the Technicians, we only had two ingots drop.
I can say doing a soft reset does not hinder any of these ingots to drop.
We kept one group up, the one in the little "cubby" area. After the person who was helping me retired for the night, I went back in (about an hour later) and vanish farmed the group. I never got one ingot to drop after an hours worth of farming.
Although I can say if you are outside the instance for a long period of time they won't drop.
The same thing happened to me a week before as well. You have to be quick to get back in and finish farming.
did bwl today
looted 6 ignots totally, but only received 3 ignots from loot
and rest ignots doesnt shows on the corpse
Not sure if this is 100% confirmed yet because I can't trust my own memory, but doesn't Golemagg in MC drop these randomly as well? I never stepped foot in BWL until this past week, but had 3 of these bad boys in my bank that I'm positive I obtained by farming MC for bindings. Can anyone else confirm?
My guild went in to farm elementium ores for my hunter's Thunderfury quest. It took us two weeks to get the 10 ores. The first week, we had 9 ores drop, and the second week, only 1 dropped. This is contrary to what people are saying with regards to a "drop cap per raid ID," but true nonetheless. I would tend to believe that instead of a drop cap, that drops from soft-reset mobs would not be allowed to contain the ingots.
It should be noted that our farming runs were during the WotLK expansion, when they were ores, not ingots.
RNG is random.
these are the results of each weeks farm run.
*Some ore was not present after loot rolls were finished. Tickets were filled out and the ore was returned via GM's. As of now the only solution they have offered is to loot each person after each kill rather than to pull large groups and then loot after they are all dead.*
I'll keep updating this as I farm more to help give new farmers an idea of what to expect from each raid lockout. Hope it helps!
: While you need a friend to do the first encounters mechanic, you can easily solo the rest of the raid... this nets big bucks in addition to gathering the ore!
Having a similar issue as others, I sent a report to a Game Master today about an Elementium Ingot being unlootable.
The GM had said it was an already known issue and that they were working on it, but the interesting thing is that unlike the other people who have reported, this GM gave me an actual number.
Apparently after 62 Technician kills they intentionally stop giving ingots. I hope that clears the mystery a little and helps anyone farming the ingots. Good luck.
So, I've been soloing this whole place for a while now on my hunter...one thing I noticed is that if you kill Razorgore early in the week, but then come back on sunday/monday, no ingots will drop...did at least 20 mobs of technicians without a single drop (feign death to get out of combat).
I'm not sure if this is due to a server cap on the ingots in addition to the raid ID cap or if it has something to do with the time frame from when you kill Razorgore to the time you start downing technicians.
Point is, get this over with all at once and as early as possible in the week if you want your ingots.
Did this last week, Dropped a Ingot, Didnt let me loot it, thought i screwed up or something, Killed about 500 more adds, without a single god damn ingot.. Wowhead states 7% chance drop and when i do a run without reseting adds ill get 5+ per run, i sent a ticked, and they told me random is random, and they also said there is glitches with the ingots and they will work on it. I hope this week i can farm ingots without BS.
I have just cleared the raid, 0 elementium ingot dropped.
I was also recently denied to loot 1 ingot that dropped in my weekly run. As usual I made a ticket, but the response was somewhat different from what I am used to.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to catch you when you were on-line. I'm contacting you about the question you sent regarding beung unable to Elementium Ingots.
It is actually by design that you weren't able to loot the Elemetium Ingot, so we wouldn't be able to recover it for you.
Elemetium Ingots are a valuable epic item that drops from thrash and doesn't bind when picked up. In order to prevent these items from being farmed excessively, a restriction was placed on the looting of this item. One you have killed a certain, undisclosed, number of Blackwing Technicians, you will no longer be able to loot any more Elementium Ingots, even though you will see them drop and will be prompted to roll on them.
English Game Master Team
hmm, that must be one tired GM o.O
I can confirm that in 4.2.0A on 9 Aug 2011, I rolled on a Elementium Ingot I was farming, won it, and did not receive it in my bags, nor was it on the body of any dead mobs. What a load of crap, Blizzard. - Tyduss, US Frostmane Alliance.
Edit: I put in a ticket to complain about it to see if they would tell me the same thing they told Hailscorn (few comments above me). They didn't tell me that. They gave me the Elementium Ingot in my mailbox. =)
Can confirm that 9 of these were looted in a duo run of BWL.
This is kind a weird, I got 1 Ingot from this week's run and I couldn't loot it so I made a ticket and the response was:
"Sadly we can not restore the ingots due to the fact that they become unlootable once you killed 62 Goblin Engineers, I'm sorry to tell you that and I hope you can understand our restriction in this case".
I ticketed again and got answer:
"I believe there are about 70 or so BLackwing Technicians in one full clear, the restriction would be weekly, and it because people who would be intrested in using various methods to farm these mobs indefinitly. This would nullify the achivement in earning the item. So there is only a chance for the first lot of these mobs to drop the items, any further ones you kill will not award the item (even if you see it and are able to roll on it, you will not recieve it".
That clear's up some things about them Ingotzzz
I got this (trimmed) response from a GM after inquiring after Ingots that I won rolls for but never received on Sep. 18th, 2011:
There is actually supposed to be a cap on the number of Blackwing Technicians spawn in each instance and once this cap is reached they are gone for good until the next time the Raid ID is reset. Unfortunately there is currently issue that is causing more Technicians then is desired to spawn. These extra Technicians can still drop loot however any Elementium Ingots that are dropped cannot be looted which is intended.
These extra Ingots are not supposed to be able to be show up and are currently something the Developers are working to fix at this time however the Ingot you won was not supposed to be obtained and cannot be restored. This cap is in place to help keep legendary items difficult to obtain instead of farming all the Ingots you need in a single run.
This was on a single clear through, no repops/resets, no farming.
Today i subitted a ticket regarding one of those Ingots that I could not loot no matter what i tried.
The Game Master answered me that this is a known bug and that the problem is that no ingot actually dropped - it is only a glitch; but more importantly he said that no ingot can ever drop after 62 TECHICIANS have been slain.
So 62 is the highest number of chances you have per run, probably to avoid reset farmings.

Only the first 62 technicians have a guaranteed drop for the ingot... If you're lucky will drop 2+, if not, 1 or in the worst case, no one...
I, too, have had the issue where I would see an ingot drop, could roll on it, but didn't receive it. I've ticketed this in the past and received the ingots in the mail -- until my last ticket, when I didn't, but was told instead the ingots I couldn't loot were just a display bug.
Here's the information I got out of multiple GMs in the chain of tickets I just closed:
Only the first 62 technicians you kill in the instance can drop lootable Elementium Ingots.
Whether any ingots drop from the first 62 technicians you kill or not,
ingots dropped by technicians 63+ are a bug
. They're not meant to show up. You can see them, you can roll on them, but you won't receive them (the person winning the roll will get a "You can't loot that right now" error message) and GMs won't award them to you if you put in a ticket. (You may get the occasional GM who is unaware of this, but I wouldn't try to game the system if I were you.)
This limit is set per instance save
and applies to all characters saved to that instance ID.
This doesn't stop you from going and clearing the instance every week with multiple characters if you want to get more ingots -- but it's designed to stop continuous farming of the respawning technicians on a half-cleared, extendable ID.
Today I have done Blackwing Lair 3 of these dropped. We did a mass pull and then looted at the end.
I won first 2 ingots and I did not receive them I passed on 3rd and so did the other guy and it was still gone from the corpse.
I made 3 tickets and was given approximatively the same answer.
the 3rd one didn't care enough to actually come and tell me so he just closed my ticket and gave me a generated answer which was.
"Unfortunately, our staff is unable to fulfill your request to provide you with the Elementium Ingots from Blackwing Lair. Game Masters are unable to intervene in issues involving Legendary quest items.
Though our goal is to resolve every issue as requested, certain actions are beyond the scope of the Game Master Department. We regret any inconvenience you may have been caused."
The 2nd GM told me it wasn't an issue and it was working as intended.
So if you want to get your missing ingots, either hope that you get a nice gm that actually care or get lucky , because from what I have experienced, chances are you won't get your ingots but it's worth bothering GM with it.
I am usually happy with blizzard support but this one really pissed me off and I hope SWTOR offer an an actual care and not have the "We are rich we don't care what our customer think of us" mindset.
Blizz must have fixed something. A group of three of us just ran BWL. Either the others passed, or I was lucky. But three ingots are in my bags right now
Got 2 of them and sold them on AH got 2000 gold for them
run BWL several times seems high drop rate seems alway at least one drops, buit then again i doubtr you can solo this instance so u have to get people weekly to get stuff...
Just solod this, and the comments are true. 4 ingots drop
If we are to believe that the drop rate is 9%, and that only 62 legitimate drop chances are allowed per instance run,
average number of ingots obtained per run should be
My source is twofold:
The theoretical probability is (9/100) * 62 == 5.58
And just to confirm, I made an excel spreadsheet that calculated thousands and thousands of trials, each with 62 mobs and a 9% chance of dropping an ingot. The average value in practice matched the theoretical value, turning out to be 5.56 over one thousand trials.
if you get less than 5 per run, you are 'unlucky' statistically.
More than 5, and you are lucky.
How many times are people going to post the same information over and over? Come on guys, READ the comments before posting your 'so called' helpful information. It's been said and done. Thanks.
used to be vendored for 10 gold now its been nerfed to 10 silver each.
Not sure when this was changed but it seems that two ingot limit was removed at some point. I just manage to pick four ingots in one run and three with another char. I didn't tested if it's possible reset instance, kill trash again and still receive ingots that way.
Just did a run on my rogue = 0 drops. I have never had none drop before. Bad luck run or did they change something with BfA?
I got 7 in one full clear.
As of Feb 2021 - Level 50 Druid received one drop during a solo run. Next day, Level 50 Hunter received five drops in a solo run. These are also fairly cheap in the AH (WA). Both Alliance, if that matters.
