Range is 40 yds, and the soul is a small green comet travelling towards you. The soul will disappear (and you won't get the buff), if the mob dies before it can reach you. If you're really close in melee range, and the mob model is super small, you get the buff almost instantly. At full range, it takes 7-8 seconds to reach you.
The buff gives you, as a percentage of the maximum crit buff:
- 50% if you activate it at 100% mob health (could be slightly less)
- 75% if you activate it at 50% mob health
- 98% if you activate it at 4% mob health (so it seems linear).
For me, seems like a very nice trinket. As a mistweaver I'm in melee range often, and this seems perfect for mythic+ in order to increase healing output if it gets rough. Even if you activate it at the beginning of a single mob boss fight, it's still useful. And its on use effect will get progressively more powerful as the boss loses HP (and usually gets stronger = more heal required). Same goes for DPS.

In all seriousness. I think having to pick up the same trinket over and over and over again is really silly. Maybe add new loot to M+ every phase if you want people to play M+. This is not fun gameplay to grind something over and over again that you've ALREADY gotten twice. Having pieces in M+ that are BiS are ok. Having them be BiS by a LONG SHOT and making us reacquire them each patch is just sadistic. If you add the valor system to reduce RNG and bad luck then why do we need to get the pieces AGAIN?
Cause chances are, I'm gonna get the trinket to drop before I even grind enough valor to make up the difference in the upgrade cost (from my old 220 trinket) from getting a new +14 version. But its still a silly system and honestly, valor should be a system to stop the single dungeon grind. I'd rather do twenty M+ runs for valor than do ten runs of theater of pain again.
Also, you can spend all that time and effort and upgrade your piece but you can't even upgrade it to the highest level that you can get by LUCK in the vault? Yea, this game design is just awful blizzard.
Edit: Stuff like this was awful and on top of the lastest company news. I quit the game. Shadowlands is just awful and game designs like this are there it seems just because blizzard devs actually hate the player base. Good luck in shadowlands guys. After 15 years. I'm done.

For all people that stuсked on farming this goddamn thing, don't forget to farm myth0.
If you have enough valor points, there isn't a point to farm + keys if you can kill that lich fast in 0 dungeons.
I know it has a week cd, but it will cost less than 5-6 minutes.
Get 5 friends with correct loot and you will get it.
This will not save you from myth+ grind but this run will be more like the weekly chest.
