Not too difficult to get if you farm lesser eternals from lower level greens and join them up yourself.
Of course, now that the runed arcanite rod and runed fel iron rod require them, they're selling for huge gold at AH.
It is only possible to get these from items (player) level 51-60 from Azeroth.
Outland items do not give Greater Eternal Essence at all.
Both Illusion dust and Eternal Essences are decently cheap to get by disenchanting
2 Felcloth, 25 runecloth, and a rune thread
Something is seriously wrong with Blizzard...instead of these things getting cheaper with BC the prices have went WAY up, 15g each on my realm.
They need to up the drop rate from DEing, or make them purchaseable or something.
The problem with greater eternal essences is the "upgrading" of gear that they did, back when they brought out Tier 0.5
Basically, alot of gear used to be greens, and as such dropped GEE's. But when they upgraded the old greens to blues (as example, Cadaverous Set, and indeed alot of Scholo stuff), the "drop" rate of Greater Eternals fell. Blue's give large brilliant shards (or the booby prize, nexus crystals). Greens are what you need.
Feel free to blither now.
I feel you. Im getting enchanting up and I have more shards and dusts than I know what to do with but they aren't worth jack since I dont have my essences. I am four pts away from BC enchanting but can't get essences. /tear
Well I can at least say I'm not alone now. I just can't seem to get enough of this...perhaps it's the Burning Crusade's curse of leaving the mainland? I guess I'll have to go back and farm a bunch of old dungeons. Anyone have a better idea for me? Anyone know the best place to get items to d/e for this?
"you can get up to 3 greater eternals when you DE a weapon with a Item level of 63+"
"Thanks to your comment I just spent 70g on weapons and found nothing but Arcane Dust/ and Lesser Planar Essence.."
that's probably because you didn't read his comment and you disenchanted items that REQUIRED lvl 63 or higher, and didn't look and weapons with their ITEM LVL around 63.
take one look at the "disenchanted from" tab in wowhead and you would have saved yourself the trouble, and from making your comment.
On wow-head it says it is created by 2 Lesser Eternal Essences however it requires 3 of them like all other Lesser > Greater transmutes.
For now I'm finding that the best place to get these as a 70 druid is by soloing the first three guards in DM North, they sometimes drop blues but mainly a green item that you can de for dust or an essence, often 2 greater eternal essence per boss
If you are a tailor/enchanter, you can make quite a lot of these easily by disenchanting
These give up to three Essences or five Illusion Dust and both sell well on the AH, so if you are wanting one for an enchantment/crafting but get the other then you can just sell them on at a profit.
The materials for the shoulders are easily farmed or bought cheaply from the AH. Runecloth is very easy to get in huge numbers from farming Stratholme, plus you will also get a few green items there which disenchant into Essence/Dust too.
Of course, if you are not a tailor/enchanter who likes to farm then this won't be much use to you. But I make a lot of gold by selling these on the AH to the weekend BG twink crowd.
Leatherworkers can also make
, which often yields Greater Eternal when disenchanted, sometimes 2.
I got this from items in Stratholme.
Btw, i find it weird that these sells for 15g on my realm, while greater planar sells for 6-8g.
The Majority of these come from WEAPONS
on AH on my server 1 greater costs 25g
Who gives a crap how much they go for on your server. Where the h*ll can I find these? I've tried Strat, Scholo, and Dire Maul.
what i normally do to DE and sell high is to buy lvl 51-55 weapons on the AH for 10g or less. There is a chance for illusion dust but the chance for greater eternal essence(usually two) is about 80%.
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone whose server sells greater eternals for under 9g, my server is aroundd 10-11g each and i've made about 300g in the past week just doing this.
Despite what you may see here, it does take three Lesser Essences to create a Greater Essence. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:
You use the first Lesser Essence, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other two Lesser Essences, and creates a Greater Essence.
This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.
Greater Eternals and Illusion Dust can be a HUGE moneymaker for tailor/enchanters. I've found the best way to generate GEs or IDs is by crafting Wizardweave Turbans from runecloth, a star ruby, and a rune thread.
I find Turbans more profitable than shoulders because when a Turban des into Greater Eternals it always disenchants into either 2 or 3, never just one. When it drops illusion dust, you get 2, 3, 4, or 5. My drop rates run about 20% 2 illusion dust, 20% 3, 20% 4, 20% 5, 10% 2 Greater Eternals, 10% 3 Greater Eternals.
So a quick example: if runecloth is 20s per piece, and star rubies are 4g each and rune thread are 50s each, then your cost to make the turban is 10g50s. If illusion dust sells for 3g and Greater Eternals sell for 15g, then your average take from a disenchant is 15.9g. The trick is finding enough runecloth and star rubies.
My server goes through waves. I can often find runecloth for as low as 6s per piece in stacks of 20, but I average 15s per piece. When I first discovered this, star rubies were selling for 1g50s but now they're up to 4g for an average ruby. I get occasional droughts of reasonably priced runecloth now that most folks are 70,but I get through those droughts by farming my own or just waiting till prices cycle back down. Fortunately about once per week I've been able to get full stacks of rubies at reasonable prices, but your results may vary.
where can i find it?
Something is seriously wrong with Blizzard...instead of these things getting cheaper with BC the prices have went WAY up, 15g each on my realm.
Blizzard doesn't set the AH prices, that's your fellow players.
Frankly, it's a normal and logical effect, too: the level of items that Greater Eternal Essences come from via disenchanting is very close to the level where people will be transferring to Outland, so at that point, most people aren't focused on gear but on getting those last couple levels. They know any gear they pick up right then will be replaced almost immediately upon getting to Outland. As a result, people aren't selling gear in that level range on the AH very much, and people aren't working on professions very much either, so the majority of the items these Essences come from get vendored. All of this results in a lower supply of the items being available, and since I'm sure that we're all familiar with the most basic law of Supply and Demand...lower availability while demand remains means higher prices.
Absolutely fantastic way to make money for enchanters. There are lots of people running Strath etc now, willing to get rid of some green weapons on AH for much lower prices than what you can fetch for selling these.
you can get it from items lvl 51 to 56, not up to 60 !
On Magtheridon, it's a seller's market for these, and it doesn't seem to be changing. They go for around 25g per. Stacks are sold for considerably less, but they are infrequent and expensive. I have ench/tail, and even though I can d/e my own tailored crap, it wasn't enough to get the required amount of these to level up enchanting sufficiently.
does any1 of u know a good instance to grind it... im upping my enchanting skill
If you want to get 2 of these Greater Eternal Essence really quick, solo the first boss in DM West, Tendris Warpwood. Provided you have the key to the dungeon, you can do it in less than 15 minutes. I started to solo this boss with my survival hunter at lvl 70, in Northrend greenies: never died once. Just keep in mind to clear protectors in the courtyard before aggroing the boss (the big walking trees, not the small ones). Every other trash will not go aggro on toons lvl 67+ (that's the level of the lowest lvl pet i bringed there).
Tendris drops a green staff or a green shield that disenchants into 2 Greater Eternal Essence. If you're really unlucky (!)you'll get the blue drop (reset and repeat).
Also a good tip in order to get
is to do this quest
In the box you get there are the green items that give these items very much.
Plus from the
(if you have 30 of them) you can turn them in to this guy
he will give you another box which most of the time also has a green item in the item level needed for both the mats.
This is only doable if the AQ-event is still going on your server.
This helped me alot and hope it will also help you in leveling your Enchanting to 300.
The inflation on these things is vulgar. ITS CHEAPER TO BUY WEAPONS AND DE THEM. Here's what I did:
-Open up the AH and search all weapons between lvl 51 and 60
-Turn on your disenchant spell
-scroll over the weapons and find the ones with ENCHANTING LEVEL 200
- if they're less than about 10g, BUY THEM.
DE'ing items with enchanting level 200 gives two Greater Eternal Essences nearly every time.
that should help...
The best Bang for your bolt would probably be the
Rune cloth head band
While I do completely understand why these are ridiculously over-priced these days, here's a funny thing I noticed on 5 different servers I play on. Why do people post Lesser Eternal Essence for almost the exact same price as the Greater Eternal Essence? Are there that many stupid buyers? Or just stupid sellers? Inquiring minds want to know...
EDIT: I've noticed this with just about all essences btw.
I personally found
to be a very good source of this stuff. Two bolts of Runecloth, and Felcloth is relatively cheap. I got four or five in disenchanting six shoulders, at the cost of twelve bolts and about twelve gold.
The easiest way to farm these (in my own experience) is to get on your level 80... Go to Stratholme and destroy/loot everything that moves. You'll be killing two birds with one stone because they mobs in Stratholme also drop ample supplies of Runecloth which is used for reputation increases (for you people who do that sort of thing) and also making items in tailoring; I.E. Runecloth Headband to later disenchant to get even more. It's recomended that a Paladin or Death Knight do the farming, because the mobs are pretty big and a lot of caster clothies don't do so well. A Shaman would also be prefered but not so much a Hunter.
I needed just a few high level OL enchant mats ... so I took my warrior into Strath. Prot spec and gear, level 64. If you find level 57-58 zombies in the packs they're still green, so you can victory rush off of them. It's not fast, but it's doable.
K, so.. After 4.0.1(possibly 4.0.3), the level of monsters in Strat and Scholo have both been lowered down to the mid to high 40's, making them both terrible places to farm Greater Eternal Essences now.
Also, due to the mobs being a lower level, they also don't drop Runecloth anymore, only Mageweave, so you can't even farm cloth, to make items, to disenchant. My enchanting is at a complete standstill right now due to this. I'm currently on my way to Dire Maul North to see what's up there, but note - Strat and Scholo are no longer good sources of Greater Eternals.
Edit - Dire Maul North, everything is also in the mid to high level 40 bracket. Also a terrible place to farm Greater Eternal Essences.. I'm completely clueless as to where to go now. -_-
Edit2 - UBRS Appears to be the best place to farm these now, as well as Runecloth.
Rarely have i farmed any instance or made things from my tailoring (Runcloth Boots, a few times) to get these! Farming the Aucton House is much easier and proffitable; I just buy low and sell high! Lots of players don't even know what they have in the way of weapons, armor or the essences themselves, and will often just throw them out there and let the default settings do the work so they can get back to whatever they were doing. It helps a lot to have a real time auction scanner and to refresh the pages with the items of interest often. GEE's sell anywhere from 20-30g (atm i'm getting 37g) each on my server and the LEE's are often half ! Most players don't even bother to do the math considering it takes three Lessers to make a Greater and vice versa, and that goes for all the ssences as well as the Northrend Eternals/Crystallizeds, Outlands' (non reversible) Primals/Motes! Happy shopping!
I just cleared upper with my 75 pally and had only one green drop, did they reduce the number of drops?
These essences are such bull to get. They're rare to come by, so do NOT sell these on the AH until you have made Runed Arcanite Rod and also Runed Fel Iron Rod, or you'll be stuck buying everything off of the AH to disenchant and running low level instances over and over and over. I'm sick of these stupid things! D:
UPDATE: Confirmed. . .
UBRS is the best place to grind these as of patch 4.0.3a.
Several green drops per run. On a lot of the greens when I did receive Greater Eternal Essence, I got THREE of them from one item. Nomnomnomnom! Keep in mind that these come from GREEN items (usually weapons, and occasionally armor.) On my run, my Greater Eternal Essences were disenchanted from a pair of bracers, and also a pair of pants. Remember to clear all trash mobs.
is now level 44-47, the drops will be of a much lower level, resulting in:
update: You will also have similar results with
Best dungeons to grind now would be:
. These dungeons drop vanilla level items (item level up to 63) only.
Any burning crusade item (item level 81+) will
yield this Essence.
These enchanting items are EXTREMELY hard to get. I have followed the advice here with ZERO success >> I just ran Lower AND Upper BRS, and didn't get a single green; total waste of time.
If you have the gold, just buy lvl 39 -45 greens from the AH for your Chanter to DE, and HOPE LIKE HELL you get the mats you're looking for...
No one seems to have mentioned questing - quest rewards in areas from 50-60 have a chance to DE into Eternals; without an 80 to farm content, and nothing on the AH, I went back at 61 and started doing blasted lands quests and got several greens, along with random drops.
Imperfect Draenethyst Fragment
Flawless Draenethyst Sphere
from the random mobs in Blasted Lands can be turned in for random greens/blues as well.
So far 8 greater's in half an hour.
Running UBRS and LBRS is definitely not a waste of time when you need to farm Greater Eternal Essence. Will you have some bad luck and have no greens drops? Sure, but that is pretty exceptional, and it is definitely not the standard experience as far as I have seen. Besides, green drops are just bonuses - the real reason you should be running this instance is for cloth. A full clear should take less than an hour (my best is 45 minutes, and that is killing every trash mob) but make sure you have a lot of bag space.
Farming GEE's is made extremely easy in these instances because you should also be looting a boat-load of Runecloth. Just find a Tailor (or even better if you are an enchanter/tailor yourself), add some Rune Thread and Bam! Runecloth Headband.
1 full clear of all trash and mobs typically can net you the following:
~250 Runecloth (enough for 10 Runecloth Headband)
~15 Large Brilliant Shard (if you can DE the BoP drops)
~2-3 Green Drops
~100g in vendor trash or other AH materials
Also worth mentioning is the fact that if you are a Skinner then you can also take home a bunch of leather and scales from the dragonkin and worg mobs in the instance. If you want to farm these items yourself, then clearing all of UBRS and LBRS is worth your time.
Don't waste your time farming for greens in dungeons. The fastest and easiest way to get these is to create Enchanted Thorium Blades and disenchant them. Instant profit. Base materials to create these are: 8 Thorium Bars, 6 Dream Dust, and 1 rugged leather.
I created & disenchanted 16 runecloth headbands. I got 19 illusion dust and 7 Greater Eternal Essences - which was 3 more than I need for my Runed Fel Iron Rod. It should net me a nice profit at the AH.
I made a bunch of Thorium Leggings which only require 12 Thorium Bars each.
Disanchanted they drop Greater Eternal Essences and Illusion Dust , both will come handy for enchanting.
Imperial Plate Leggings will work too , needs more Thorium though , but will drop more of each.
Since Cata those things SKYROCKET in price. Currently going 100+g on my Server.
I disenchanted 23
and it resulted in:
Took me 5-7 minutes to fly around Silithus (with 280% speed flying) and got 107
with some Arcane Crystals and other gems. The rugged leather and the Dream dust is very cheap compared to the 50-80g price of
on my server (EU-Blooscalp)
For BRS update as of today-
one run thru upper and lower (bout 1 hour and half)
Greater Eternal- 16
Illusion Dust- 18
Large Brill Shard- 4
Dream Dust- 5
so id say that the BR is pretty good for GRE and RC yes.
Runecloth Headbands seem to be a reasonably cheap way to get these, along with Illusion Dusts and the occasional Large Brilliant Shard.
D/eing 20 headbands landed me 32 dust, 6 Greater Eternals and 2 Large Brilliants. Given how cheap the mats are, definitely worth it if you're trying to power your enchanter through this phase and don't feel like farming in Blackrock.
Edit: these numbers may be slightly high given that my enchanter does have the guild "Bountiful Bags" perk.
I did 3 runs of BRS/LBRS today and got one boe green and a boe blue (which was from a chest). That was it. Either I'm EXTREMELY unlucky, or they nerfed drop rates on greens? =(
The best is crab an 85 run
upper and lower Blackrock Spire
you get about 7 greens per run mostly gain greater eternal essences. sunken temple is bad for farming since its so small only dragons had zero greens in 3 runs.
If you want to level enchanting with these, never mind. The cheapest way to level enchanting from 265 to 300 is to buy the
Formula: Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina
. You can buy this in Darnassus from
or in Undercity from
. This formula only uses 5 x
Please be aware that this formula is Bound on Pickup and can not be sent to an alt once bought.
It becomes yellow at 285 but even without the perks of a level 25 guild, it should still be cheaper than using nether essences.
I have used it to level to 300
and saved my essences for the Arcanite rod.
(No more rods required as of 5.0)

Buying cheap runecloth and turning them into Runecloth headbands to disenchant is a great way to earn some quick and easy gold depending on your servers market.
Tips: Runecloth is cheaper on the weekends due to more people online running things
The enchanting mats you made sell higher on weekdays due to less competition.
For those Tailors out there, there is a rather high disenchant rate of these from Runecloth Headbands. Pretty easy to make also. I recently made 14 of these headbands and got 8 greater eternal essences out of them.
Just disenchanted 10
and got nothing but
. This is not a successful method of obtaining
just for the record since many people mentioned this method previously.
Upper and Lower Blackrock Spire is the best, and only, place to reliably get Greater Eternal Essence and Illusion Dust from an Azeroth dungeon.
The catch is that the drop rate is terrible for greens off of the mobs. My average is four to five greens per run killing everything that moves. Four to five drops yield and average of eight to ten Illusion Dust and two to three Greater Eternal Essence.
I have farmed Blackrock Depths and all the greens that drop there only disenchant to Dream Dust for me.
An alternative to farming for mats is to quickly complete the quests in Silithus,Blasted Lands and Winterspring, assuming you haven't already, and disenchant the quest rewards. I save these three zones until I'm level sixty on any enchanter for the sole purpose of disenchanting every quest item. I use Un'Goro Crater, Swamp of Sorrows and Felwood to level to sixty.
With the added ability in Blasted Lands to obtain Imperfect Draenethyst Fragments and Flawless Draenethyst Spheres from any mob and rares, respectively, which turn in for a bag with either a random green or blue item in it it, also respectively, is definitely worth doing the quests there.
Oh, if the item isn't an item level 56 or higher green from Azeroth, it will not disenchant into Illusion Dust or Greater Eternal Essence. Green items need to be item level 56 or higher Azeroth items. However, blue gear of a slightly lower item level can still disenchant into Illusion Dust or Greater Eternal Essence, but don't count on it.
need point to view
I've tried my best to avoid using these to level enchanting, and I've found the most profitable way of leveling enchanting from 275 to 300 is to buy
公式：附魔胸甲 - 特效生命
in Everlook, Winterspring. Not only are the shards used considered thrash by most players (cost like 40s on the servers I play on), the enchant is the best one you can slap on your heirloom chest, so I've sold the scrolls for everything between 20-150g.
Greater essences disenchant most commonly off of weapons and rings.
These ones come from any gear level 51-60 in vanilla content.

Almost gave up hope farming the Greater Eternal Essence through disenchanting, only got Rich Illusion Dust after disenchanting over 10 Runecloth Headband. Eventually I got the essences, and figured that crafting Wizardweave Robe out of the other mats I recieved, and then disenchanting them also yielded some of the right mats.
is the most reliable way to get the max level vanilla enchantings materials. So I disenchanted 400 of these to get some updated numbers.
