Creating an Arcanite Dragonling will cost a huge amount of money, so I wouldn't recommend buying it from the auction house.

However, if you have a guild that will be happy to get the mats for you, then great.

If you plan to make this just using your own money however, think about this. The Delicate Arcanite Converters needed require arcanite bars, and those cost about 30g each.

If that doesn't chop enough of your money, there's still the enchanted leather and thorium, the thorium widgets, and gold power cores.

Although it's very expensive though, it is still worth it once you get it because it is powerful. Still, remember to think about this before you buy the schematic in the auction house.

You can use a soulbound mithril dragon to make this item.

The dragons level is (eng lvl)/5. so a if your engineering is 300, your item-pet level is going to be 60.

It is possible to have a dragon out as well as other pets, including the battle chicken.

I found mine after about 8/9 Cobalt Mageweaver kills. This was, in fact, the only item that I saw drop other than cash. I may be lucky though - the drop rates published here and on other sites seem to suggest it should take a lot longer.

They're not too tricky to solo as they seem to be the clothies of the clan and drop quite quickly for an elite mob - I tried this at 61 (Feral Druid) with semi-decent TBC gear.

The other Cobalt Dragonkin (Scalebane, etc) take a lot longer and can whittle health down so be choosy.

Be wary of pulling the non-elite mobs too - they seem to come in twos and threes and are more than a little inconvenient when tackling an elite.

Ok this item is not worth it its mats in BC are easy to get but still overall not worth it especially getting the recipie if you want badly i recommend getting mats and get someone who has the recipe

This was the drop i wanted from the mageweavers and got after 5 trips to Winterspring, just killed the all the mageweavers and left. Didnt bother waiting for respawns, also got 5 Arcane Protection recipes and 3 Winternights robe pattern. altogether i think i killed close to 100.

farming this recipe truly was a grind (8 days of winterspring), but with the mats changed for the repairbot 74a to 16 thorium instead of 12, and being able to swiftly kill the 56-58 elite mobs that drop from 10-25 silver a pop made this a worthwhile effort.

the cave spawns 2 thorium veins, 1 of which is usually a rich thorium vein. right now stacks of thorium sell for 20g a stack on Tortheldrin.

axe of the deep woods also dropped while farming, sold it for 90g which sold immediately on AH, and even a mature blue dragon sinew which starts the epic lvl 60 hunter quiver quest - being a lvl 60 epic, i just gave it to a friend Lutegan in the Enclave.

It doesn't start the hunter epic quest, that's the ancient petrified leaf from Majordomo in Molten Core.

Once you turn that in, you get three quests, one for Onyxia's sinew, one for a blue sinew and one for 4 demon heads.

Sort of unrelated but thought I'd correct before poor clueless hunters go farming it. =P

I just found these when I was wandering around when I was bored (level 60). Killed a few of the wyrmkins, then this dropped off the first mageweaver I killed :) pretty lucky imo.
As for killing them, they're pretty easy, jus take a lot of mana as a 60 priest.

Edit: Sold within 2 hours for 200g :)

Just killed lots of this f.... geeks. Its ridiculous...
we found 4x: Pattern: Robe of Winter Night
and 4x: Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion

I guess we killed around 2 hours, everything creeping there. Me as a 69 Pala and a 60 Lock...Found 3 blue drops on top of it...

Come on, there are really not to many Engineers...why the heck has this realy neet thingy such a sh***y drop rate?

Talk about bad experiences with this drop rate... I'm on hour number 13 of farming these bastards. I've gotten 25x Pattern: Robe of Winter Night, 24x Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion, Demonslayer, a Heartseeking Crossbow, and a flipping Mature Blue Dragon Sinew, whose drop rate is 0.0%!! I'm starting to question the listed drop rate of 0.6% for this darn schematic.

Well, a word of warning to anyone trying to farm this. After roughly 12 hours of farming, and 14 Robes of Winter Night patterns, 9 Greater Arcane Protection Potion recipes, a Mature Blue Dragon Sinew (epic), and 800 pieces of rugged leather, still no drop. I am seriously beginning to doubt based on my experience and those posted before me that this item drops from the Cobalt Mageweavers anymore. Has ANYONE had it drop since the last patch? Or perhaps has it been changed so that only an engineer can see it drop? Because I've been farming on my skinner/leatherworker to make use of the dragons. Thanks for any info, going crazy here.

It'd be good to mention that you ~should~ clear out every elite mob (except the dragons) and every trio of whelps as you'll increase the chances of the Mageweaver spawning. To not do so SEVERELY limits your farming ability (it's possible for 0 Mageweavers to spawn).

So I went to try and farm this schematic for my alt using my 70 shaman. No lie in the first 15 minutes I got TEN recipe's for the arcane protection potion and SEVEN patterns for the robe of winter night and no I'm not exaggerating, it was in the first 15 minutes. I had three of the first six kills drop the recipe and two times had both the recipe and the pattern drop.... an hour later no schematic, probably because I must have only gotten 3 mageweavers to spawn in that whole damn hour of clearing the whole cave and half the spawns outside of it. If this stupid schematic does still drop it sure is rare, a bit too rare because I also got a blue dragon sinew in that first 15 minutes but still no GREEN schematic to go with my seven blues and one epic drop...... nice job Blizzard.

mine dropped today. so be confidant at least that it still CAN drop. I wanted it for myself so i didn't consider selling it but considering how hard it is to farm it should go for way way more than 150 g. I wouldn't of sold it for less than 500-1000.

Today while questing, I spotted the silver Elite General on top of the hill in Winterspring where the Dragonkin hang out. I waited for me buddy to fly over to help me kill him, and when we pulled the silver, we happened to pull A Mageweaver as well.....

A first-kill drop.

It happens!

I didn't even know of the rarity of this item until I looked it up today (to put it up at AH for as much as I can get).

Can anyone confirm that the Engineering Schematic is even still dropped? I have been farming 2-3hrs at a time 3-4 times a week for over a month.... and still no schematic.

It's not a total waste since I am doing the farming with my 70 who has skinning & LW. So far I have made enough http://www.wowhead.com/?item=15564 to get my 1200 Darkmoon Faire Tickets for an http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19426.

But honestly, doesn't this sound like Blizz may have taken these away from us?

I farmed this thing for over 3 hours straight today. I saw 8x Pattern: Robe of Winter Night and over 10x Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion. I was about to give up when one of the Mageweavers dropped Mature Blue Dragon Sinew. I figured if it was going to drop that, I should keep trying for a little while longer. The next kill dropped this schematic. :D

Finally dropped for me after 15hours farming, ~5,5k kills(combined of all the dragons in the area). This must be the worst droprate ever on a schematic >_>.

Picked up 50+ of each http://www.wowhead.com/?item=14493 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13497 on the way, as well as 3 http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18704.

Dropped for me today after 12+ hours. Also the mob that drops this shares spawns with all mobs in area except the 3 large flying dragons.

I purchased this today after using my Northrend Wormhole Generator; I chose the randomly-available option 'Underground' and ended up in a pit in the Horde section of Dalaran where a vendor (named Kaye Toogie) had a single schematic for each of the three mechanical dragonlings.

So if you are wanting to make this here little dragonling, get yourself a portable wormhole generator and maybe you'll luck out!

Using my Wormhole Generator: Northrend on every cooldown for about 2 months already. So far I've been to underground just once and never seen that option after. Of course I managed to get to the vendor when she had no schematics for sale at all. I've already seen three Mature Blue Dragon Sinew, countless Pattern: Robe of Winter Night and about the same amount of Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion. Considering that I've seen all schematics in MC drop in a single run when I wasn't on my engineer and never seen a single one while I was on engineer, farming this one isn't the worst thing in WoW.

Took me 272 Cobalt Mageweaver kills to get this recipe and got

23 Pattern: Robe of Winter Might
15 Recipe: Greater Arcane Protection Potion

while killing them on my 80 Warrior tank, Gnomish Engineer

I've been farming this schematic for a few months now using my Wormhole Generator: Northrend every time I notice the cooldown is available. During this time period, I've been to the Underground 4-5 times and find the schematic sells for around 1500g-4500g. Every time I get it I bump up the price and everytime someone buys it, so if you get it, don't cheap out and sell it for peanuts.

This pattern is only sold by who is under Dalaran. You need which has a very small chance everytime you use it to get to this vendor.

I get that I'm at the mercy of the RNG gods, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has seen the "Underground" option since Cataclysm's launch? I've been trying twice a day since then but haven't seen it and don't want to waste the 4 hour cool down sometimes if it's no longer possible to get it.

Congratulations! I tried to get mine for a really long time :)
For your information, I sold mine in a range of 1500g-4500g under a week on Stormrage realm.
But before creating my auction I luckyly found one priced at 100g on the AH so I bought and learned it; then I put my new gathered recipe at that price.

And I just want to note that not only completionists (unfortunately I am one of them) may want to buy this recipe, imho, but also anyone (that may slowly) leveling engineer characters (except classes that have real combat pets) that need a boost and doesn't know/find any one to make 奥金幼龙 (or couldn't found any 奥金机械幼龙 on the AH.) as 奥金机械幼龙 is still helping them when they are on the appropriate levels and skill (even it still has a great usage when gathering/mining materials and getting attacked by beasts due to the farming e.t.c., obviously it helps to loose aggro and then make able to gather the resources, especially when you are in a crowded zone and you don't want to lose the vein/herbs e.t.c. to ninjas - I always check if I got equipped my 源质幼龙 before farming veins).

Useless? The Arcanite Dragonling butts his head up against the above comment and shoots fire in attempt to destory it.
Yes, the Arcanite Dragonling has been superseded by the Elementium Dragonling but you never know when you might need a weapon of its level (and that can shoot fire).

Case in point I was out in Arathi Highlands picking herbs when a level 35 female gnome warrior challenged me to a duel.

Yes, this is one of many situations where you are going to lose to the RNG gods nearly every time. People know that they can make a few gold from this, so they are going to farm it like there's no tomorrow.

So I've been trying for this for weeks. Finally got underground option a day before reset (I always do it after the imperial silk cd), spammed logging on the whole time after getting disconnected at reset time. Got in, kaye had all 3 schematics, and I saw cross realm going down in 15 seconds after purchasing the schematics. Cross realm went down, spammed logging in.... And got another set of all 3 :) So the best way to get this is to spam logging in after server reset. Beats the 24 hour timer chance by far. The recipe is literally never there. lol

Posting since it's unclear based on the comments, but she is permanently farmable at this point. After getting there using the "...Underground" selection, my paladin has lived in the sewers for weeks, hoping for a chance at these schematics.
