The trick with this quest is to carefully examine the books on the floor. "Trapped" tomes that spawn guards have a clear white/gray split on their pages, whereas the real thing has a smooth transition from white to gray. This may only become apparent if you zoom in and highlight a book, but it's worth it to avoid unneccessary fights.

I agree with, what inmediasres wrote.
The books do look diffrent and i looted ot from one of the more diffrent books.

As of patch 3.1 you can tell the real one from the others by looking at the tooltip.

As of 3.1, the book you are looking for will have a special box when you hover over it that says it's for a quest. These books, however, have no such box.

From the above comments I got the impression that there would always be at least one quest item spawned together with the other tomes.

This turned out not to be the case, at first I thought I wasn't able to see the difference between the 'false' tomes and the real one so I opened everything, but no quest item.

Not until the third time the tomes respawned did I get the quest item, when I did it was evident which one was the actual quest item since it, as mentioned above, clearly stated that it was for my quest when hovering above the tome that would drop it.
