Get the quest from arcanomancer vridiel in dalaran before opening your weekly chest. Just got 20 essence on 2 toons.
Other than Tos, Weekly M+ Chest, and emissary caches, how else can we get writhing essences?
It does not appear these are obtainable from LFR.
Got 20 on two different toons with out getting quest first in Dal. Logged in and just opened My weekly chests. Neat!
This item is
in your bags once you accept
. To note your progress, look in your quest log.
As pros4c states below, the essences have now been given a currency slot on the currency tab. Which appears to still be buggy.
Business as usual however, you have your items and the quest will reflect that sooner or later.
You get 20 Writhing Essence form your Weekly Mythic+ chest reward.
It seems that these do not drop off of earlier raids. I ran a H EN and received none.
So far it seems Writhing Essences can drop from all of the sources that
Essence of Amanthul
did. This means that you can obtain Writhing Essence from the following:
Weekly Mythic plus chest (
, highest level cleared doesn't matter).
Normal/Heroic/Mythic Tomb of Sargeras bosses (
per boss, per week, regardless of lockout. LFR
Paragon reputation caches (
edit: confirmed to be 0 as per
Emissary caches (
). Emissaries saved from before the quest do count, unopened boxes do not.
Legionfall War Supply turnins (
NEW as of June 23rd
Daily Legion Heroic dungeon (
Weekly PvP rewards, ie: earn 1500 honor in 2s, 3s, and rated battlegrounds (
Assuming seven emissaries, a full clear of tomb, one mythic plus for your cache, seven daily heroics, and all three PvP weeklies, you should be able to earn about
essence per week
This is substantially more per week than the previous essence, but still time-consuming for those with 10 or more legendaries to upgrade.
ToS raid bosses seems to drop 2-5 each.
opened like 40+ Emissary caches and more 100s of Paragon reputation caches on my 6 tons, and got "ZERO". I dont think it will drop from Paragon reputation caches. those emissary caches are from b4 the 7.2.5, maybe that wont work?
You do NOT need to pick up the quest before opening your Mythic+ cache for the week. You will get 20 just the same.
Has anyone checked invasions yet?
EDIT: I did not receive any Essences from this afternoon's Highmountain invasion. I will check the 10am PDT invastion tomorrow, as well.
EDIT 2: Did not receive Essence from this morning's invasion, either, so I'm going to assume they don't award any.
For “Unsettled Power”, Writhing Essences now drop as a currency,
instead of a quest item. Entering your Class Hall or Dalaran will convert
your existing progress to the new currency.
random heroic in group finder gives x5 now!
First daily random heroic will reward 5x Writhing Essences. Hotfixed 6/23/2017!
To be able to get 5 Writhing Essence from daily heroic, you have to pick up the
quest first. Otherwise you won't see it as a reward when queuing on rhc.
Does anyone know if it drops from ToS LFR Bosses?
The item obtained from turning 50 of these in is Stabilized Titan Essence: Can confirm Stabilized Titan Essence DOES NOT cause BOE Legendaries to become soulbound. 100% certain just used one of my alts on an old 940 Celumbras and it DID NOT cause it to become soulbound!
I did an emissary and a daily heroic and got no writhing essence today, anyone else have this issue? 6/27/17
Can confirm I received 4x writhing essence from Dreamweavers Emissary loot box today.
Something with the essences is funky. I did 2 emissary boxes today, and LFR last night, and I got 0 essences. I had the quest and have 8 lego's that still need updated.
Can confirm that you do not lose your essences if you change realm and/or faction.
Tested it today and I still have 5/50.
You do however have to pick up the quest again.
Don't worry whether you shouldn't get more essence than you need to finish the quest, the extra doesn't vanish. It goes over to the next iteration.
So new legendary drops are now 970, and if you have finished upgrading your old 940's, do the writhing essences have any purpose?
Just a heads up for those who seem to get no Writhing Essences at all: make sure you have the quest to collect them! I did not pick it up and gathered several emissary caches, killed a few bosses in the tomb of Sargeras and ran daily heroics. None of the supposed sources provided me with a single essene until I picked up the quest.
This seems to be a bug because some people seem to still receive the essences while not having the quest in their questlog. It also worked this way for me until I upgraded my first legendary and did not pick up the quest to collect the essences again.
Whether this is intended or not remains to be seen, but it clearly contradicts what Blizzard said when they anounced how the gathering of the Writhing Essences would work (that you could collect them without the quest). Maybe it was changed that way so we don't see an extremely high amount of essences in our currency tab or it has simply been overlook when the essences where changed from items in our bags to a currency.
Conclusion: if you want to upgrade your legendary to 970
keep the quest to collect the essences in your questlog
. Just to be sure.
Blizzard took note of the issues with
still being available after you've upgraded all legendaries to 940: upon upgrading my last legendary to 970, my Writhing Essences were at 0 (they probably capped out to 50 before, but didn't check), and I could no longer accept the quest. I guess they just set a total cap on Essences of '# of 940 legendaries * 50'.
Where do you turn the essences into?
So I've had a collection of legendaries in my void storage. I was not getting the quest to get writhing essence because technically I hadn't had any more legendaries to upgrade. If you have 940 leggos just don't do like me, make sure they are out of that bank. Once I pulled the item out I was able to get the quest again, and get the reward for daily heroic once more.
