A majestic sea-flap, saddled and ready to ride. Or swim. Im not picky.
I hope these are from the vendor but are more likely to come from a crazy achievement
betting we will need around 500+ fish since it has been updated to show it is from the vendor
who trades items for
, which in turn are fished from around
. Also obtained from
Her rare quality items cost between 25 - 100
so expect an epic quality mount to require substantially more than that.
Checking on the 7.1 PTR server, the
Screenshots posted of this mount from PTR.
Currently the mount when learnt shows as the
but when mousing over the icon it shows
. This appears to be a an old name and tooltip which will probably be update for live release.
Patch 7.1 PTR: Build 22731
the name of the spell has been corrected in-line with the mounts name;
Name changed from Sting Ray to Darkwater Skate
it provides faster swim speed and can only be used underwater. However it doesn't provide of underwater breathing so is of limited use. Combined however with the
you will have both the underwater breathing buff and the faster swim speed buff from that pole which makes it a lot more useful.
Really, it should provide some form of waterbreathing buff when mounted, itself.
"The one that got away"
It will be more epic if this can fly.
If it's indeed bought with Darkmoon Daggermaws, I guess I'll be postponing my Fancy Darkmoon Feast parties for a little while.
I love this little guy's nose. It looks like they crossed a diamond ray with a shovelnose guitarfish. So cute.
but, it's on live server already? because I can't see this item from Galissa npc.
This looks really cool. I've wanted a go anywhere underwater mount since the sea turtle was added. I hope the final cost doesn't go up. 500 daggermaw seems cheap. 7.1 cant come soon enough.
Is this thing just as slow as the other swimming mounts?
Considering that i was able to Fish about
of those Fish in a matter of 27 minutes (this includes the Bloated fish),
for this Mount seems pretty reasonable to me. :)
My mind is kind of racing with speculator-y thoughts of whether or not the introduction to such a Mount could be hinting at perhaps -future underwater content?
(Oh lord please let there be Underwater Content in Legions future.)
After managing to fish up the sea turtle, getting a underwater mount for easily obtainable fish seems a bit tame.
How fast does this thing swim? Is it just as useless as the rest?
How fast is this mount supposed to be underwater? I don't notice any difference to my regural swimming speed while mounted..
Unfortunately, I do not see any practical use from this mount. Now, if it gave underwater breathing....
Has the same speed as the turtle in water. Took me ~2 hours to fish 500 of those things. I thought it would be faster than the turtle but no, wish I knew about that before I started. Albeit 2 hours wasn't really a huge deal but fishing *is* very boring so now you know. Think it currently costs around 50-60k in fish worth.
Does count toward mount total, if anyone was wondering.
No waterbreathing + it dismounts you when you come up for air is a serious issue with this guy.
All these comments saying you are useless. Pish posh! You shall be my squishy!
I really like these new water mounts, they are so uniqie. Already got the shark mount, time to get this one as well <3
Did not count towards Lord of the Reins (stuck at 299/300 still). Not sure if this is a bug, as it seems to meet the criteria.
Was Farming the fish for the mount today and here are my results
I farmed for approximately 1:30:00 ( hour and a half ) and got the following after about 450 casts
13x wasted casts
From the 17x
I got 117x
along with about 300 gold.
From the 20x
I got some assorted foods ( anything the vendors will sell, overall nothing worth noting ) and got one or more of each of the darkmoon elixirs.
I checked the AH on my server for the prices of the elixirs and they were less than a gold so probably no money to be made there.
I also checked the price of a stack of 200x
out of curiosity and found that the minimum price a stack was selling for was 10k gold.
Perhaps there is some gold to be made here, please note the following
1: Darkmoon firewater does NOT work with this type of farming ( it only works with increasing mining and skinning and herbing speeds last time i checked. )
2: The amount of of casts that end up being useless is about 7% ( there is about a 3% chance for nothing to be gained from what i gathered and a 4% chance to get a
which i consider to be useless since they consider nothing of value. )
3: This data only consisted of fishing from the ocean. I can gather from other posts that fishing from pools might be more useful to you. My strategy for that is to use cross-realm assist in helping you find moon fang groups on low-pop servers for the sole purpose of fishing up the pools on low-pop servers while farming the pet ( The pet
regularly sells for 10k a pop on my server. )
4. In regards to the mount itself, its not the greatest thing in the world but it does look pretty cool if you ask me. Its speed is very similar to travel form underwater for droods. It does NOT have UNDERWATER BREATHING. It also dismounts you if you go above the water. It is not better than the water strider for traveling long distances over water.
Overall I would say that this mount probably isn't worth your time just due to its speed underwater. However this mount is going to make the
more valuable for a time until everyone has the mount. I think this is a excellent opportunity to make a couple thousand gold.
If you want a more detailed right up on what the
Contain, Check out the post that jjanchan wrote on them.
pity there is not much water areas in legion. so its just for collection purposes. but still, its a good way to earn some cash for alts, low level, while fishing and putting them, fishes, on AH. around (depends on realm of course), goes 40g piece.
***UPDATE: As of the hotfixes from November 8, 2016, underwater mounts have been buffed from 108% speed to 135% speed***

, the Fishing Artifact
Considering it can swim close enough to the surface so you don't need water breathing, this seems like a decent replacement for
when you need to cross large water areas. Although;
Must NOT... press... space... Oh goddamit.
This would be a great mount that I would use a lot more often if it didn't kick you off as soon as you bumped into any rocks or accidently pressed jump.
I really hope that in a future patch they fix it so that it so that you can atleast stay mounted for say 3 seconds out of the water. The constant dismounting is a real downer.
Shut up and take my fish!
I managed to get this today within about 3 hours. Absolute pain but totally worth it.
It seems no one have posted this yet, so even though the mount says "Requires Level 40" to learn it, it doesn't require a specific level to use afterwards.
So for example as
, (at level 7-12 depending on what order you complete the quests in), you can use this mount to get to the Silvermyst Isle much quicker for the quests
It does give you
increased swim speed.
I was under the impression that it would be a fast underwater mount. Atleast faster than my
But alas, they are the same speed. Still happy for the mount though, but if I had known I wouldn't have farmed for the
is actually an overall better underwater mount. You won't get dismounted if you accidently press the Spacebar at the water surface and it can be used on land too, albeit slow.
Just bought the Daggermaw on Auction House for 4.5k (for all 500). Cheaper than I had thought. Saved time fishing
feels just as slow as swimming without, is it any faster at all?
I'm trying to decide whether 2.5 hours of fishing was worth this or not, considering it doesn't go very fast :(
For what it's worth, this and the other underwater mounts can be ridden at level 1 (not sure about Sea Turtle)
WoW's very own Majestic Sea Flap Flap!
Provides 135% swim speed.
FYI. Was trying for Turtle Mount drop and decided to see if I'd gather enough Darkmoon Daggermaws instead.
L73 Alliance Hunter.
Starting fishing skill 153.
Strong Fishing Pole +5
After 1 hour.
160x trash loot
13x chests (food, elixirs, booze, only) from 10 floating debris pool spawn.
1x Bloated Fish filled with 10x Daggermaw.
1x Darkmoon Fishing Cap.
59x Darkmoon Daggermaw +10 from the Bloated Fish = 69 total.
275 fishing skill.
Took a total of 7.5 hours of fishing before I got the 500 needed. That's about 2000 casts. No turtle drop though I did end up with Sea Pony pet too.
anyone else noticing that this is dropping off bosses a lot in low level dungeons?
Hi everyone, here my farming result for Darkwater Skate
Patch 7.3.2, character with 800 fishing skill (100% drop chance), no special fishing pole or lure.
Time taken: 2 hours.
510x Darkmoon Daggermaw farmed (went for 500 but last tries got some bloated sharks
16x bloated sharks (362 g profit and 143 fishes... a lot of work avoided!)
13x crates (small amount of silvers + varioius darkmoon fairie foods, beverage and potions).
15x wasted try with no fish.
Have fun, best of luck everyone!
I know this is an old topic and hasn't been commented on in a while but for the ones concerned about breathing underwater, you guys know you can just use a deepdive helmet to breath underwater. I know you can do other quests and get other items that will allow you to breath under water but I make these sometimes on my engineer and sell them for rouhly 30-60g depending on the server. I think you gotta be level 46 to use it though.
This is such a beautiful mount , such a shame its only underwater, Unfortunately it wont get too much use.
Took about a day of fishing on and off with BGs.
For those trying to farm this, it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes with waterwalking. I started out going about the island trying to fish the the loot fishing pools, but don't bother, it ends up taking about the same amount of time to go to each new one and fish it as it does to stay still at one spot and fish. I would average roughly about 50 Darkmoon Daggermaws every 10 minutes. Hope this helps! :)
One of the best purchases I have ever done! This is super amazingly useful, would highly recommend getting it. It wont take that much time to get it and you will find here & there those moments when having underwater mount is really neat and helpful.
Super annoying that you're dismounted if you get above surface...
Only rideable UNDER water - as soon as you surface, you dismount. The Sea Turtle is way better - doesn't dismount (break) when you surface.
In case you make a mistake and buy this after knowing it, the item says you can return it for a refund, but that's a lie you cannot return it.
On the bottom speed = 110%
Off the bottom speed = 135%
Stay off the bottom for a faster ride.
