Note that these only cause treasures to show up on the minimap. I would still suggest an addon like Handynotes with the Legion plugin for treasure hunting. As has been mentioned in other places, this isn't an item that you use, it works simply by being in your inventory. You must be at least Honored with the faction for each zone to get the treasure map.

I bought one of these maps but I get the message:

"You can't do that yet"

when I click on the map. Right now, it's just taking up space in my bags...

The maps need to be in your bags for you to see the treasure chests on your minimap. You won't see the chests on your minimap if you put the maps in your bank.
