Making darkmoon cards is definitely a rich man's game!
You've got a 1/32 chance of making any specific card, or in other words you'd need to make at least 22 cards to have a 50% chance of getting a specific card. In practice you could easily make 50 cards and not get the one you want.
By making lots of cards we even this out and end up with multiple sets... at least that's the plan. We're talking hundreds not dozens for this.
UPDATED with new stats: I've made 275 cards, nearly 500k gold worth of mats.
Producing 19 complete sets, evenly split between the suits
Leaving me 123 cards sitting in my inventory (45% 'waste')
28% Immortality, 27% Hellfire, 24% Dominion, 21% Promises
16% Sevens, 15% Aces, 14% Eights, ~11% Everything Else
Most Common: Ace of Immortality (15 Cards)
Least Common: Six of Immortality, Six of Hellfire, Four of Promises, Four of Dominion (5 of each)
The suits are well balance, but what does surprise me is the commonality of 7s, 8s and Aces vs the middle numbers. It certainly 'felt' like they were rarer, but I thought it would even out after so many cards. I suppose it's still a small sample set given how many different cards there are. RNG strikes again.
On my server the complete decks I made would be worth about 1.2m gold. I don't sell the individual cards - both to maintain the value of decks, and because I'm way too casual to track another 32 listings. 4 is plenty for me thanks. Still, profit.
TL;DR: Just buy the deck you need, or have deep enough pockets to take on the RNG gods ;)
Rank 2 technique now 50 tokens & rank 3 now 250 tokens! Ouch! (I am exalted with DMF. Just checked on an alt of Friendly standing only & the price is the same regardless of faction standing).
