This is a new fish that you will be able to Catch on Darkmoon Island while the Darkmoon Faire is active. It contains 5-10
and some gold.
You will be able to buy different kinds of vanity items, Recipes and food with these fish. You will be able to buy them from
Just caught two quite short after each other. Around 60 casts for the first, and just 8 more for the second
. The first contained 5
, the second had 8 of those, and both gave 15-20g. (This was in open water fishing at the Darkmoon Faire)
Appears to have a lower drop chance than the
in open water. Approx. 7 threshers versus 14 sealed crates from a little over 200 casts (at 700 fishing with no buffs or lures). Between 8-25 gold. Didn't see a single one until getting away from the docks, though may just be RNG.
Does not appear to be soulbound, unknown if can be sold on the auction house.
These do not stack. So be warned if you over-fish and can't loot due to 0 inventory space.
Just looted a
Darkmoon Fishing Cap
from one of these.
At 200 casts with 889 skill I have caught:
177 Daggermaws (88.5%)
13 Bloated Threshers (6.5%)
9 Sealed Darkmoon Crates (4.5%)
1 Sea Pony (0.5%)
I wonder if higher skill gives more threshers/crates? Will try later and report back.
Another 200 casts at 1100 skill:
185 Daggermaws (92.5%)
7 Bloated Threshers (3.5%)
8 Sealed Darkmoon Crates (4%)
So yeah skill doesn't seem to matter, at least not at these levels...
My brother (SE Account) pulled a "Sea Pony" on his 3rd bloated tresher. And he fished for less then 10 minutes.
It's worth noting that these also contain gold and that the amount of gold they contain does not vary depending on your level or your fishing skill, and you can catch them at level five and fishing one. While the amount of gold per thresher (10-30g per thresher) doesn't seem that much at high levels, where you can easily get more running an old raid or some dailies, it's a pretty substantial amount for a brand new character.
I seem to average about 100g from bloated threshers in the time it takes to get 100
Faded Treasure Map
. 100g, 100 fish, 100 tickets in 10-15 minutes. Not a bad deal at all for a fresh alt.
EDIT: They've changed the likelihood you'll get them at low fishing levels. It used to be a much better deal for new alts than it is now.
To add to the data - as far as gold that these give - I've personally looted one that gave me 29g. So it seems the amounts vary from 10-29g.
I just got a
from opening a
, so apparently those can contain more stuff than just gold and
. Perhaps they can also contain other items that you can randomly obtain from fishing at the
I fished up 350 Daggermaws to get the assorted stuff from the vendor, and ended up with 17x
Droprate on the threshers looks to be pretty decent, and they opened to give me an additional 163x
and ~484g, I didn't get any tugboats or hats from the threshers, but I did get one of each while fishing.
The legend says that
could be contained withing this catch.
From my own experience, I started getting Bloated Threshers after gaining 500 skill (300 + 200 bait).
New Void Elf, created March 2nd 2018, and went on a fishing spree to 1) level profs and 2) hoping to raise some gold from fishing at the DMF. Well... tough luck! I am seriously disappointed (and actually extremely pissed off) that after levelling my fishing skill well beyond 225 I am still getting only grey vendor crap when fishing at the Darkmoon Faire. If I recall correctly, my (long-abandoned) level 10 horde paladin, with much lower level fishing skille, made a neat bundle of starting cash from fishing for the Bloated Treshers. No such luck this time around. Wasted a lot of time levelling my fishing and still have diddly-squat to show for it. Have the requirements for catching Bloated Treshers changed that much? And, if so, why? It was an excellent chance for low-level starting toons to make a tidy bit of cash to level with. For now, I am very very frustrated.
I remember me and my friend used to farm those when we played Trial version together. Each shark drops around 20 gold. Because trial accounts can have only 10 gold max, we wouldn't open them. When we had bags almost full of them, we activated the game and had a few hundred if not 1k+ gold from the start. Unfortunately these were nerfed and now drop 10 times less. Fishing them used to be the best way of "making gold" in Trial WoW but still not enough to buy tokens of course. You would need multiple characters with full bags and banks.
Anybody else feeling like these are a rare sight after the 8.0.1 patch? The Darkmoon Faire uses your "Classic" fishing skill to determine catch rates, which maxes out at 300 (with no enhancements). However, if I recall, you needed a pre-8.0.1 skill of 500-600 to catch these reliably, which is obviously no longer possible.
My lvl 10 alt just caught a bloated thresher at fishing lvl 20 using a fishing pole main hand and a day-old donut lure that gives +10 to fishing. I thought a much higher level was needed but apparently not.
