I wonder how much Obliterum Ash from crafted gear when destroyed will give us. Because if it's just a little stock up on those mats. I think destroyed stuff might yield 2 or 3 prices. I hope this system is on a star like the other stuff
I have seen items that can be upgraded 1/9 times currently on beta. Some thoughts have been that the star system on crafted gear increase ilvl and reduce mats. Others see it just reduces the materials. There is no tooltip to show how many "upgrades" are available. At 5 ilvl per upgrade, if no ilvl increase from stars, raid gear starting in the mid 800s., It will be worthwhile to see how high you can make crafted gear, to get a good idea before pouring tons of gold and time upgrading for possibly a marginal benefit.
Crafted gear appears to cap out at 850 on the beta at the time of this post.
Edit: Obliterating Chest and Leg armor yields the most Obliterum Ash per Blood of Sargeras

. As it was pointed below it does not matter what leystone craft you obliterate, drops are the identical, if you are going to spam craft go for the cheapest.
Those numbers might be off and can be subject to change before they hit live, I've put them to give people a general idea howmuch obliterum they can expect to get from the only available source (so far). We will have a better idea once wowhead works it's magic on a huge sample size.

You are still better off dumping any extra ore into tier1 crafts and obliterating them, while obliterating the bad rolls on the tier2 gear will give you significantly more ash to compensate for the rare gathering mats and blood wasted.

My question is, will using the Obliterum on your crafted items bind it to you, or are we going to be able to sell 850 gear from the gate?
Here is some data I've gathered from obliterating a small sample of 10x

How I earn money at the moment with this.
Atm they cost 9000g+ at the auction house. I am a leatherworker and have the warhide pants rank 3 recipe aka 16 stonehide leather = 1 warhide pants.
So i bought all the leather from the auction house up to a price of 8g50s per item. Invested 17200g and got 2686 leather.
With the leather i crafted 168 warhide pants. I've then obliterated these and got ~3.98 ashes each. 669 ashes which gave me 6(.7) obliterum.
17200g -> 6.69 Obliterum
Auction House Value -> 60210g
40859g Profit (ah cut calculated). *joy*

Gravenscale Armbands (815) (250 stormscale; 80 stormscale) -> 27 ash (1:12)**
Warhide Jerkin (715) (24 stonehide leather) -> 5 ash (1:5)
Warhide Footpads (765) (12 stonehide ; 5 unbroken claw) -> 3 ash (1:4)
Warhide Belt (735) (12 stonehide; 5 unbroken tooth) -> 3 ash
Warhide Bindings (785) (9 stonehide) -> 2 ash (1:4.5)
Warhide Gloves (785) (18 stonehide) -> 2-3 ash (1:9;1:6) *discovered this one by a slip of the mouse.
Given this it's reasonable to extrapolate that the ilvl of the item doesn't give greater ash; you get more ash based on the number of base leather/scale that goes into it.
Given that the crafted items use more stormscale and and other materials that are rare, and it is more scarse to come across based on numbers of mobs that produce it, your best bang for your buck are the lower level leather items (which take only stonehide leather) preferably those that use significant numbers of stonehide (see ratios). If the ratios hold true, then
Dreadleather gloves (250 stonehide) should be your best return, but as of this typing I did not have enough mats to test this theory. ETA: Dreadleather gloves give 26 ash.
There was no noted increase in ash between a purple and blue item.

Obliterating 70 Dreadleather Footpads:
I got 1343 Obliterum Ash, that means 19,2 from one.
This has been nerfed from around 7 ash/each on 715-785 items to 2-3 ash/each.
Just obliterated 75 785 items and got 165ash.
Is there any benefit to being able to craft Obliterum if you are not a tailor, leatherworker, or blacksmith? Will the Obliterum I craft be soulbound or can I sell it on the AH? If soulbound, can I still at least use it to upgrade gear items of others via the trade window in the same fashion enchanters can enchant soulbound players items?
Ok so I decided to do some Hard hard number gathering. So far the only blues worth buying for Obliteration have been the 815 leather crafted waist item. But here are the numbers I've gathered so far.
815 Leather Waist; 22 20 23 18 20 20 20 21 19 16 20 22 16 17 23 21 23 19 18 16 19 16 20 19 19 23 22 20 19 22 17 18 23 16 23 23 21 18 17 17 23 23 21 20 23 16 makes for an average of 19.61538462 so far.

Is it worth getting the obliterum forge for characters that don't have gearcrafting professions? My mage is a herbalist&alchemist
For enchanters who are wondering, scrolls of enchantment do *NOT* count as things that you can obliterate. So no throwing a cheap enchantment on a scroll and using it to create dust for yourself.
CONFIRMED! You CAN obliterate potions! It is WAY less efficient than obliterating gear, however.
I tested different potions: Ancient Healing Potion (x1 Obliterum Ash) , Unbending Potion (x1 Obliterum Ash) , Flask of Ten Thousand Scars (x4 Obliterum Ash)
So it seams potions give you just one and flasks can give you +/- 4
EDIT: three pieces of 735 cloth gear gave me 10 Obliterum Ash (4-4-2)
So can someone explain to me the point of leveling crafted gear to 850 if you can simply get 860s and better from world quests and mythics? This method of gaining Item Levels seems ridiculously expensive compared to simply consistently doing WQ/'keystones/raids for gear upgrades. Even if you simply had one piece of gear you cannot find an upgrade for, is it really worth 24.5k+ gold for a single 850 item? Especially when you can get 840 from class hall items? At that point you are paying exorbitant amounts of gold for 10 item levels on one piece of gear.
Clearly I'm missing something or there's something I don't know about this system, because to me there's arguably no reason for it to exist other than selling pieces to gullible people for massive profit.
Can't seem to get a clear answer on this.
Can I use Obliterum to upgrade crafted relics?
Just as an FYI, Items upgraded with Obliterum will
have increased stats to go with the increased Item Level.
I definitely did not discover this while using 4 Obliterum on a lower level piece of gear to cheat the gear score.
Yo guys! i don't have the "Fire!" quest on my map nor on the spot where it suppose to b. Is there any questline before this one that hangs together or am i just not eligable for the quest? Im a 110 Fury warrior with enchanting and Alchemy as proffs. Kinda want the fel furnace, that's cause im asking :P

Since Obliterum kinda fell by the way side it's be great if Blizz could make it usable on M+ gear.
Ex: M+2>+3>+4 (stop) then M+5>+6>+7 and so on so grinding gear and depending on good groups wouldn't be such a grind.
This might be a dumb question, but is there some limit as to which crafted items you can upgrade? It's not letting me use my Obliterum on my Silkweave Slippers or my Skystone Pendant… WHY?
Increases the item level of crafted armor up to 865, instead of 855 as of patch
They seriously nerfed the number of ash you get from each obliterate. I obliterated Warhide footpads upto ilvl 775 and averaged 3 per round. That means I'd basically have to obliterate 33 pairs of boots for one obliterum. This is not anywhere near ok, it's pretty much bad design. I am getting the same average for JC items. So, I hope this isn't working as intended.
If you're creating potions just to get L3 on the alchemy potions (OK, yes, I'm a completionist!) then you can speed up the obliterating using this macro:

Replace Ancient Rejuvenation Potion with the name of the potion you are spam crafting. As of 7.1 this is marginally useful for fast-tracking alts iLevel (if a VERY expensive way of doing it given the low amount of ash looted: 1-2 per potion), particularly on Darkmoon Faire trinkets.
Drag the macro to the toolbar & keybind. You'll still have to click the Obliterate button (protected function on the Blizzard UI for reasons known only to them).
The CloseLoot will prevent the "Internal Error" message from the manual alternative: right click on the item in your back, click Obliterate and ignore the loot box.
As of patch 7.2, applying these on the previously crafted item level 815s will now bump it up to item level 840(Obliterum: 1/8). Then it will resume its 5 level increments until item level 875(Obliterum: 8/8).

Just an FYI, as of Patch 7.2.5, if you have an ilvl 815, Obliterum will upgrade it to 855, and then in 5 level increments thereafter onto ilvl 900.
Why i can't use
So I just tried to use this on a Prophetic Band of the Quickblade ring (i165 base) and despite the tooltip saying it increase the ilvl by TWO with dramatic increases below i168 it actually only increased by ONE ilvl. That is, I now have an i166 ring. Put this stuff right in the dumpster and set it on fire.
This takes all the fun out of saving mats for alts to use later. :(

SHADOWLANDS WARNING: This doesn't work properly on the PTR (as of 9/27/20). You can make ilvl 87 gear that has the 0/10 Obliterum tag in the tooltip, but applying the Obliterum doesn't actually change the item.
Tried this on a Leather Belt, base craft was ilvl 87, Obliterum 0/10. After using an
and 2 blood on the belt, it was still ilvl 87 (stats were all the same) but it now said Obliterum 1/10.
Couldn't test anymore due to lack of materials, but hopefully its either fixed or Obliterum is removed at some point.
I did not test Primal Obliterum either, so no idea if those work or not.
WARNING - Shadowlands pre-patch changes
: I just used this on Gravenscale Spaulders and Gravenscale Girdle and the
stats went DOWN
. It took 3 boosts to match what the gear was before using the Obliterum - for each of the two items. From 3 to 4 added just one point to Armor for each item. From 4 to 5 added
for each item. From 5 to 6 added one point to Stamina on the Spaulders. I was out of Obliterum then.
Either plan on not boosting gear or having a lot of Obliterum for each item.
In the current patch, the item has become suitable only for sale, although the counter of the Obliterum level remains on the crafting items.
