Looted from Blackfang monsters in Fang'rila (south part in the middle of Tanaan Jungle).
From what I've seen so far you can spend these by buying Minor Blackfang Challenge Totem, Major Blackfang Totem or Prime Blackfang Challenge Totem from Z'tenga the Walker at 55,74 in the north part of Fang'rila. I bought the Major Totem and it was pretty easy for me as a tank, I faced a champion named Renderra, She/he (whatever) didn't have many spells/attacks, the only thing the champion had was Stoneskin, some kind of enrage that made the champion gain more AS and something else. I focused to interrupt Stoneskin because I didn't really have anyone problem with the champions enrage. But the loot was a bit disappointing, I got 1 Blackfang Claw after spending 10 Blackfang Claws. You have to use the totem in the arena in Fang'rila at 54, 80.
And remember, this is PTR (Public Test Realm) I'm playing, so there can be some changings in the future.
I killed some more Blackfang monster to gain more Blackfang Claw's to I had enough Blackfang Claws to afford the Prime Blackfang Totem to face the biggest champion at the arena in Fang'rila. This time I faced a champion with the name Eyepiercer, he had 3 spells. Fearsome Howl, magic damage which feared you for some seconds, Bloody Arc that dealt physical damage every 2nd second, and Ground Stomp which dealt magic damage I believe? But any who, this time I got 3 Blackfang Claws, I wasn't really surprised.
Advise to all: the blackfang tribe is the strongest saberon tribe on draenor. They're all Elite. The lowest have 1154k health and strike very hard. Be carefull.

Here on Wowhead it looks like this currency is not actually flagged as a currency and will occupy our inventories at a max stack of 999. So the exalted mount would require six inventory slots to save up the required items if that were really the case. Is this a reporting issue, or did Blizzard once again forget they added a currency tab to the game six years ago? As these are BoP and seem to serve no other purpose than to buy items, it seems like they is no reason NOT to have them on the tab designed exactly for items like that.
Got exalted with this reputation faction in 5 hours. Was in a 5 man group using the LFG groupfinder and went around getting as many mobs as we could and rares. There are 4 rare spawns in the area that give you 650 rep each kill no matter if you killed prior or not. The mobs dropped Blackfang Claws that totalled to 625 as soon as I got exalted. I averaged approximately 170 claws an hour and farmed for approximately 5 hours straight. The two mounts that the vendor is selling costs 1k and 5k blackfang claws. If you want both, thats 6k blackfang claws. 6k/170 = 35 Hours of farming. Good luck!
Hit exalted after 2-3 hours of grinding in a group (Human + Trading Post + Banner) - though I hear the lake has been nerfed.
I obtained 677 claws, as a reference point for the rest of you!
The amount of claws that drop makes sense if you got a drop every kill, but in a party of 5 you see it 1/5th the time. I have a feeling Blizzard didn't think this part through when they did the math. It'll take you probably 5x+ the amount of time it took you to get exalted with a 5 man group with no +rep bonuses.
Edit: It seems like they hotfixed it to drop about double, which isn't ideal, but better.
Now that Blizzard Hotfixed the insta respawn spot this path seems like the fastest way . i am including waypoints for tomtom below, there are 3 rares and 1 quest mob on path that give 600+ rep (depending on bonuses) I also marked where you can get the 45% fel buff on the path by jumping in fel water. Im just going to use the rep merchant as starting point.

The quest :
Interestingly, these also drop in regular quantities off of
, which are non elite. These mobs are located sparsely with the Bleeding Hollow mobs (/way 50, 77.6). However, since you will have to kill many Bleeding Hollow mobs to get to the occasional Prisoner, it's not worth the farm.
The amount of claws that drop in a group of five is extremely underwhelming, farmed from 0 friendly to 8k revered with Darkmoon Faire rep buff, and only 700 claws dropped. Not sure if there is something wrong with our group's loot system but with this rate it would take far longer to farm 7500 claws needed for the mounts and pet than reaching exalted.
Update: Tried to solo farm instead with a 700 combat rogue, which surprisingly is way faster with 500+ claws in half an hour without other players or groups interfering. I got 8 stacks of green pool debuff for 40% increased damage dealt and taken, Vivianne as bodyguard, food and potion, artillery strike for garrison ability and was able to pull 88k dps. Staying on the west side of the main road, i.e the side with the lake is much safer, I would only go to the east side with all my cooldown up as the chance of aggroing patrol mobs or the ones on treetop is too high. Other classes may struggle to survive and pulling high dps at the same time, but I believe hunters and locks are the best for farming.
Farmed 5000 pretty fash while in 2-man group as fury warrior and holy paladin, both around 680 ilvl, warrior with 9 stacks of fel, holy pally tanking, killing pulls of 4-8 saberons that yield 40-80 claws per pull. Used Leorajh for bloodlust, garrison ability arcane orb for aoe damage. Took only a few hours to get the more expensive mount and was more fun than killing them in a 5-man group for exa that only gives you around 700 claws.
The best way to farm these is solo. You don't need to share with anyone and as long as you have the dps to kill them without dying you can earn around 500 per hour. Also the
is the easiest to farm b/c they have the least health, are constantly casting so they don't melee often (if you're ranged) and seem to be squishier than the others.
Blizzard sit down a minute we need to talk...
You know people will be farming at least 5000 of these at a time for the mount and you clearly know what an issue bag space has become over the years since you implemented things like the heirloom tab and toy box, so for the love of #$@#$ WHY do these only stack to 999!
Seriously though they literally keep making the same mistake over and over again with items like this.
How many times have they had to hotfix in an increased stack size in the past? either put these things in the currency tab or make them stack to 9999 as a rule going forward, problem solved, not rocket science.
Tooth and Claw: The quest now awards 100 Blackfang Claws on >>competition<< (up from 25 Blackfang Claws).
I think this is supposed to say "completion".
What i want to know is where can u turn them in and when the NPC becomes a vendor?
As you'll probably want both all of
, the best way is probably farm 5k with one character for
while getting 1,5k and 1k with alts by doing
when it's available. Not the fastest way, but it's going to save you some time as the farming is pita.
I was struggling with farming 7500 of these (5000 Mount, 1500 Pet, 1000 Mount) . Doing it in a group of 5 was SO slow, and just mind numbing.
The much easier, efficient, and sanity saving method was to switch to Protection Spec (Warrior). Group up packs of 6-8 , and AoE them down with Ravager / Cannon Barrage / Etc. If you have Legendary Ring it's even easier. I could typically kill each pack in about 2 minutes . Was getting roughly 1k-1.5k teeth an hour. Since I was doing it solo, it was easy to take breaks for my sanity when I wanted to.
After sitting at 500 for the last 2 months, I went with this method, and banged out my 7k left within 2 days. Much easier, saved my sanity, and now this grind is over. I will say even with this method the grind was sort of crazy. Good luck to you all.
Another way to solo this, albeit a bit slower than 500 claws 20 mins, is to stand at the following location on the cliff and spam premade groups. Leave the group when the mob aggros you and loot the mob quickly before you phase out.
/way 53.79 76.43 Blackfang Prowler
Pure speculation here, but
are somewhat similar in some ways. Both has been designed to be BoP and both was farmed from tough elites (as a side note, both was really boring grind).
My idea is that with Legion
will have is BoP status removed.
I haven't seen this mentioned, so in case it isn't obvious, these claws don't appear to drop while in a raid group.
As others have pointed out, these are split between group members if you group up. I did the original grind to exalted in a group, staying until I also had 1500 claws for a pet to sell.
I went back recently and played around to see how fast I could grind them solo, and it's much, much faster. Obviously, this depends on your class, spec, and gear. As a ilv 709 non-raiding (i.e. no ubertrinkets or set bonuses) BM hunter I have been able to get 2000-2500+ claws per hour (depending on both drop luck and patrol luck affecting pull size), having now farmed for the pet a second time for myself, as well as both mounts and another pet to sell.
I use a combination of
to try to pull as many enemies as possible into one group, making sure to jump-shoot to get the ones hidden inside caves, which are difficult to pull normally due to line of sight issues. Using this method I get enough enemies for between 40-100 claws per group, with an average around 70. AOE is key, so make sure you have the artillery garrison ability and use it as often as you can. Experiment with the reset range of the enemies and you'll quickly figure out where and how you can pull as many as possible, assuming the amount you can pull maxes out before your ability to handle them does. The biggest pulls I've managed are on the small "ledge" between the lake and the arena, and in the area outside Blackfang's cave, pulling everything in caves and trees as well. I've not had any issues dealing with as many of these as I can pull at a time, so it should be doable to solo a fair amount of these at a time even on other classes or lower ilvs.
EDIT: Changed claw/hour estimate after actually timing it
If you can efficiently AOE farm these elites, the best place I've found is at the cave at 51.3 79.3.
There's about 12-15 mobs that spawn near the cave and you can hop realms there, just get into combat and leave the raid before anything dies, and loot most of the corpses before you get out of combat and phase out.
You won't get any claw drops while you're in a raid group even if no one else is around.
Also remember to get 9 stacks of
from the green lava around the island.
Do these not drop if you've never done Tooth and Claw on a character? I'm trying to get them on an alt so I can do Rumble in the Jungle, and I know I've been unfortunate enough to not have TAC as a daily yet. I have not looted a SINLGE one of the Claws since my character has been in Tanaan Jungle (some number of weeks). I've been slacking on doing the dailies, hence why I haven't gotten TAC yet. So what gets these things to start dropping finally?
For people trying to grind 5k claws(or more) but they don't have a tank/plate class, the best way is to get 9x
pull all the mobs in 58, 80 and AoE everything down using legendary ring and garrison ability -
, afk a few minutes(or realm hop) and repeat when they respawn, each round gives you about 70-80 claws, saves the time running around killing 2 mobs at a time.
Someone else made a
to speed up solo farming, by repeatedly killing the same mobs in your favorite spot without moving. It was downvoted into oblivion, I'm guessing by people who didn't quite get the need to
drop from a raid group while in combat but before any mobs die
, and very importantly,
loot corpses before you get out of combat
. Claws don't drop if you kill a mob when you're in a raid, so if you join normal realm-hopping raids and just kill a bunch of mobs, looting them yields nothing. But once you're in combat from pulling one or a bunch of mobs, you won't be phased out of that realm until you're out of combat even if you leave the group, so once you're in combat, drop group, kill all but one mob, loot the claws, finish the final mob, and if you're quick about clicking you can loot that last one too, if the game doesn't loot-lag.
If you don't have an addon to speed up realm-hopping, you may be interested in
Cross Realm Assist
. I use Cross Realm Assist, and manually choose the groups that I join for realm-hopping, picking open garrisons or groups that mention realm hopping is okay.
As mentioned elsewhere, getting 9 stacks of
while farming is a nice way of increasing your dps by 45% for 30 minutes, if you're not having any difficulty surviving (it increases the damage you take by 45% as well). You can get the buff/debuff in green pools like at in Tanaan Jungle, just north of the big lake with a small center island in Fang'rila.
As a 735 item level guardian druid, hopping realms, using 9x
, and making occasional looting mistakes, I got around
s per hour
farming around just southwest of the lake. Other areas offer bigger pulls, but this is a nice modest pull of 11 mobs for 60-95 claws, and includes
, whose webs are slowing and
. You need to move north a bit to aggro a
in a tree, and south a bit to aggro one in another tree and tag the mobs in the caves, even if you use
. There are two patrolling mobs on a road beneath a hill, but you have to move so far to tag them that the cave mobs can reset, or if you tag the cave mobs last, the road mobs can reset.
Did a guide for farming this efficiently nowadays for every classes in 6.2.2. It's easy if you have tank spec, but say cloth DPS needs 720+ gear to pull like I do.
I personally got 5000 shards as 710 druid tank in about 250 minutes? Every pull average like 5 minutes I like say, just to have easy math.
Thanks to all who suggested soloing. It is super fast if you can kill them alone quick or group and kill them. I was in a group getting 7 per group of like 5. Alone i got about 45. I wonder if maybe blizz got tired of the lazy apexis groups and did this to punish group farmers. Anyways just wanted to let others know. Thanks for the help everyone else. This experience made me finally make an account, I wanted to promote those that commented to help me:).
What are the blackfang claws used for expect to get the achievement? Can you turn them in somewhere for a reward?
As of 03/27/17 blackfang claws still drop make sure you are farming correct area/mobs. Blackfang quartermaster Z'tenga the Walker (55.2, 74.8 @ Tanaan Jungle) has 2 mounts pet check his inventory list on Wowhead.
Can someone please tell me what this is used for? I haven't played in like a year and forgot. I have so much stuff in my bags and not sure what everything is. Thanks
Grinding 5000 of these for the mount was one of the last things I still had to do in Tanaan Jungle. I already had 2700 saved up from before, so that left 2300 to get tonight. I was able to grind that out in 25 minutes, which means roughly 5500 claws/hour. That could probably have gone up to 6000 if I was alone in the area, but mostly I had stuff to kill all the time anyway due to fast respawns.
This was done on a feral druid with speed gear/buffs, ilvl ~928. Able to one-shot everything with Brutal Shash and a few Fel Sludge stacks. Instant flight to move larger distances between packs, ~200% movement speed in cat form for shorter distances.
If you play a less mobile class, and maybe with less burst/gear, a more realistic number would probably be 1000-3000 claws/hour.
i dunno what's going on but i got this 5k grind done in less than 45 min. the respawn rate this evening was crazy fast. and even with the opposing faction in the area, i was still able to just sit in one spot and just knock this out stupid fast. i know it's been mentioned the drop rate was increased, but i dont ever remember anything re-spawning this fast in old zones.
Took me less than 20 minutes to farm 1k of these in Fang'rila as a 120 destro lock, very easy
Blackfang Claw are not dropping if you are in a raid for some reason. I was in a raid that finished with someone else in group and I killed maybe 30 of the elites in Fangrila and none were dropping. As soon as I converted to party, they started dropping.
