An AMAZING Pre Raid Tank ring. Best used by Prot warriors, although us Offtank Warriors can make use of it. Its Def mod, Stam, and Armor are all fantastic. I would recommend this to ANY Tank warrior.
The drop rate of this great tanking ring is around 15%. You may need to do a few BRD runs to get it but it is worth it.
Kill Lord Angerforge while you are in BRD for a chance to get the other great tanking item - the Force of Will trinket.
Ah, good old Nagle Ring
Very good ring but obviously benefits Bear Druids the most. Still, any tank capable of tanking should try for this. Not too hard to see drop, easy boss to kill and a you'll get a pretty good ring out of it.
The Diablo 2 nagelring is better
Does it get any benefit from +arcane damage?
Now all it needs is some MF.
Good reference to the original naglering from Diablo 2.
Most likely a reference to the Unique Diablo 2 ring Nagelring :). Nice one
Heh looking at the stats for this it even is similar to that of the Diablo II version:
Req Level: 7
Magic Damage reduced by 3
+50-75 to Attack Rating
Attacker takes 3 Damage
15-30% better chance of getting magic item
This ring is really good for an AoE Protection Paladin. The extra 3 damage to attackers will be a great addition to Retribution Aura. I anticipate it'd be hard to replace as a grinding item far into the 60s.
i just got this ring yesterday, and on my stat sheet it says that it is only adding +40 armor instead of 50. is anyone else having this problem?
The ring is a reference to Pat Nagle, the Blizzard employee.
I'm using it as a 65 protection pally and it definitely works. You can see the damage in the combat text, though it isn't showed in the combat log.
I just got this item also and it does work but again it doesnt show in damage log. I am just unsure if a block qualifies as a hit for purposes of the ring's damage though I believe it should. But when combine with the Cloak of Fire these are great tools for AoEing.
This name is Norwegian, no doubt.
Got it last night with my paladin. The ring is awesome. The 50 armor bonus, the +10 stamina and the defense rating. The 3 arcane damage makes a good bonus to an AoE tankadin also.
LoooooL .. Naglering is a danish word for stomackring :P
Kinda weird and uncool ... Unless you are a woman char ofc :)
i didn't realize how hard it was to get, and ALL of the value of it, since i got it on my first run in BRD. also, it reminds me of the spell "naglefar" from fire emblem: the sacred stones, that was the coolest spell ever.
Damn it droped today while i was with my prot warrior in brd and an arms warrior in the party won it not too big deal since in 3 levels i am hiting outland but stil damn

These two don't stack with eachother but scale slightly with spellpower
112 Holy Damage
Stacks with both Thorns and Fire Shield, also scales will spellpower
Brings the total up to (assuming you have every item that reflects damage and the aura and thorns buffs)
This does way more than 3 damage a hit I was getting 48s per hit at lvl 54...does it stack with anything else? Because I don't have any other items that do damage on hit.
naglering.. naegling? any1 else getting the similarity?
Got this today on my level 54 paladin. Was suspicious because I wasn't seeing it reflecting any damage during the instance. Took it out into the plaguelands, turned off ret aura, removed my shield, and let a +1 plague lurker beat on me. Tried this with the ring in both slots. In neither case did the naglering reflect the 3 arcane damage as it says its supposed to. Item is broken.
Appears to be back to a state of working today. Damage is being reported as "Thorns" reflecting the 3 damage. Funnily enough, sometimes it reflects 4 damage.
Rofl, Naglering = Belly Button Ring in Danish xD
It is currently not causing damage to attackers as of 4.03. Seems a few of these type of items are broken this patch.
CONFIRMED this item still works at Level 80:
Warlock rolled need and got it, then refused to trade it to me (the tank). Awe-some.
I love the garlic butter sau..
in swedish naglering mean nailring (nail that u have on ur finger)
, this ring currently IS working as of patch 5.3.
I just got it and it's working nicely. Happy tank.
Yes, it's a ring that also featured in Diablo 2. However, in case you're interested in the true/original reference:
It's a reference to High German folkore (the
) as well as Wagner's
Der Ring des Nibelungen
, an opera series based on those folktales. The proc effect comes from
, an Old English saga.
This item itself is a combination of the Ring of Power (from Wagner's epos) and the sword Nagelring, both forged by the Dwarf Alberich. This also explains why this item drops from a Dwarven craftsman. The giant golems this NPC is surrounded with are a reference to the story where Thedrik captures Alberich, who agrees to help fight the giants Grim and Hild in exchange for his freedom.
The item's proc effect is a reference to
, where the main character Beowulf wields the sword Naegling (itself a reference to Nagelring mentioned earlier). It is suggested that the sword, given to him by his uncle, is the sword of German legend. About 50 years after the famous fight against the monster Grendel and its mother, Beowulf finds himself battling a dragon. However, he strikes his sword with such power that the sword breaks and wounds him as well as the dragon. Beowulf dies of his wounds shortly after.
Heres a small list of items that has thorn damage at 50-60
Battle for Azeroth 8.0.1 Testing - Naglering
Testing on a 59 Enhancement Shaman revealed the following:
1. The proc (which appears as "Thorns" in the combat log) can occur
without being hit
, at least from testing on combat dummies. In my case (Enh Shammy) it appeared to proc on
hits on my target.
2. The proc damage does scale with Versatility.
3. Proc damage does not scale with main stat or attack power.
4. Proc rate seems to be in line with the claimed 1.69 procs per minute (give or take).
TL;DR / Summary:
Naglering is a holdover from a wilder time in WoW, a time when rings could give effects usually reserved for epic weapons and trinkets nowadays. Yes, 500 or so damage per minute isn't huge, but is there any other ring that can effectively increase your DPS by 8.5 at level 59 -- and deal it 350 at a time, at that? No. This ring is well worth trading some stats for.
Rating for 59 twinks:
5 out of 5 noob skulls
It seemed an obvious reference to me when it dropped but not mentioned here that I could see, along with other good references. The name directly reflects that of the
a Senior Games Designer still with Blizzard and at the time one of the Quest Designers for World of Warcraft. He of
He was also involved with Diablo also back then, so seems reasonable in-game reference for both games.
