This critter is kinda cute, but unfortunately it makes a constant flapping noise that can become quite annoying in the long run. It's really a shame.
Of course, if you just listen to your own music while playing it isn't a problem. Some people (like me) just have too slow computers for that. =/

In patch 2.4.3, numerous flying non-combat pets have had their flight height modified to no longer skim along the ground. This includes captured firefly, dragonhawk hatchlings, moths, owls, parrots, phoenix hatchling, spirit of summer, sprite darter, and tiny sporebat.

I'm so glad this is droppable now! As a hunter I could honestly care less about most companion pets but this one was really pretty, and i loved having it fly around my Alliance character. Now my main is Horde and I could only watch on in envy...until now!
Happy hunting.

To anyone posting that it dropped for them, fine, we get it, it dropped, you either got unlucky, or lucky.
Please stop. Unless you have tested 10+ egg drops, and all statistics are fairly similar, you simply had good/bad luck. Saying "I got this drop on my first kill, it's clearly not a .5% drop" is stupid, and I have one word.
Luck
So please, enough with the repative posts saying "I got this in XX kills, this MUST mean it's <insert rarity here>"
It's a rare drop. No one has consistently tested the drop rate yet, and the WowHead database is skewed, any comments on the rarity are completely stupid without
solid
testing.
If you want to post your drop rate, sure, go for it. This will add to the collective whole, but please
don't
speculate on the rarity based on 1 drop chance.

Not sure if anyone has picked up on this, or if I'm even right, but I speculate that the posted droprate on Wowhead is so low, despite peoples' claims of very quick drops, is because this pet was added as a drop to the Darters in 3.1. These mobs have been in the game since vanilla (I believe), and so THOUSANDS have been killed, meanwhile not so many since 3.1, thus making the drop percentage a bit skewed.

Got this pet without even knowing it existed on my Paladin while lvling in Feralas. I've tried to get it on other characters, and havent had any luck. Respawn rate on the Darters is very fast and with some AoE, you can probably easily farm this pet. Too bad not many of my alts have good AoE :(

I have received a confirmation from a Game master today, that the pet still drops from the Sprite Darters. I suppose that in addition, it can now drop off any (or most) mobs in Feralas.

As of Cataclysm the quest chain has been removed. The item has been changed to a random zone drop and is now the only way for Alliance characters to get the sprite darter pet.
Edit: Didn't see the BoP status. I can has brain?

As of Cataclysm, it seems most of these now "zone-drop" pets are now looking at 1 in 10,000 chances, confirmed by most of their wowhead pages.
(Azure Whelpling, Black Tabby, Crimson Whelpling, Hyacinth, Razzashi Hatchling, Sprite Darter)
Trust me, I've been farming -_-
Edit: Why the downrates? Even if you think that the wowhead droprate is so low because "they kept all the pre-cata data" (
Which they didn't.
), you can see that only 45 eggs have been found from over 70,000 sprite darters - and the droprate certainly wasn't 1 in 10,000 pre-cata.
The droprate is much lower than 1 in 1,000.

Kikibean told you he got it 2 months ago, that was 4.0.3 and the droprate was alot better.
However I came to bring up my own experience, I have been farming those for something like 20 hours+ and I got it on 30/05/2011 as of version 4.1.0.
I don't know what's the best way, but i would highly suggest you stick to grimtotems, with their huge spawning rate.
I made a few equations that ended me to this : you can make a round in New Thalanaar, a total round is something like 50 grimtotems. If you are good you do this in around 3min, that is 1000 mobs an hour. You can expect to get it between 10k and 25k kills, and if you don't well ... just stick to it.
What you have to keep in mind is, if you have something better in game to do, go ahead, maybe the droprate will be reviewed soon, if you don't, just queue to dungeons or battlegrounds, and stay farming these instead of doing nothing around Orgrimmar / Stormwind auction house.
A few tips to improve your farming would be :
Getting a spec which has a movespeed increment ( I'm druid and my 30% feral movespeed was a huge boost )
Getting a boots enchant with a movespeed bonus
Both of these will reduce your farming time GREATLY, since you cannot afford to mount between packs ( especially for horde which will be in fight status because of the nighelves NPCs )
Think about which spell suits the best for this, as a druid moonkin i chose to respec to feral and use the cat swipe, which damages a huge aoe around me, without having to target mobs individually or an area.
The equivalent for mages is arcane explosion, for priest sacred nova, and so on.
And most of all, just keep it cool. You should definitely get it, in 3 or 4 days if you really are going for it, its about 20 hours of farming if you stick to this method ( around 20k mobs killed ), and remember, queuing up for dungeons / battlegrounds, doing Tol Barad when its available and such things should help you stay relax !
Good luck !

Yeah so did I think, I should have gone for that pet when the droprate was around 1/200 but well just consider you are using the time you would usually spend doing nothing in a capital into farming your pet. When you have something else to do, just go for it. When you are waiting, like in queues or battlegrounds, just farm some and you will get it. Just don't loose faith, you will definitely get it ;)

So the posts above are extremely discouraging and silly; be open-minded when you start to farm this.
It took me a few hours to farm this companion along with a lot of music---- roughly around 1k kills.
Since the pet is a zone drop, there is a 1/10,000 chance of dropping off any mob in Feralas.
Best grinding area: New Thalanaar -- (This is to the East of Feralas)
Mobs to kill: Grimtotem Marauder
This is the best grinding area because the mobs respawn extremely fast allowing you to do cycles without stopping.
-------
Be prepared to have a lot of bag room because the silk cloth will accumulate extremely fast. Keep this cloth because I was actually surprised that a stack sold for 25g on my server on weekdays--- so I was able to get a long of side change while farming for this pet allowing me to essentially buy another pet (BoE).
As a side note, farming for pets is total RNG. I sent out a ticket to a GM to find how loot works, whether loot was predetermined when the mob spawned or whether it was randomly selected as you loot. The GM informed me that loot is randomly selected as you loot. Therefore, feel free to take a break every 20-30mins so you don't mindlessly fall asleep on your keyboard or get frustrated.

Flap, flap those magnificent wings,
So small in size but in such demand.
Those evil green alien eyes make me melt,
But then again what doesn't?
Determination and willpower prevailed for now you are mine,
And on to the next pet I go.

Oh man.. after approximately 18k total Feralas kills, and over 20 hours of farming, I finally got this pet. To anyone who wants this pet: Be prepared to spend a LOT of time trying to get this. Who knows, you might get lucky and get it within your first 200 kills, but none the less, be prepared, and make sure to take breaks every few hours.
I also found watching Netflix movies and shows on my other monitor helped with that initial boredom milestone.
Now to start farming for the Gundrak Hatchling!

After an above commenter (timbal_t) said he bought it off of a stable master, I decided to submit a ticket to ask a GM. I think I'll just take my chances in Feralas. =/

Yuck is all i can say...
The quest for the gorgeous pet no longer exists in game.
2 of the top dropping mobs are also friendly and not attackable...
They are the Sprite Darter and Frayfeather Stagwing. So don't bother.
You now have to grind mobs for hours in order to get the drop / pet.
Best place i found is at New Thalanaar, Far west of Feralas.
The mobs there are called Grimtotem Marauder and spawn rate is quick.
Been here for 2 hours now and still no drop. I have 50 stacks of silk and glad i also have a trav tundra mount :P
Have read up alot on this and they are telling me it is a zone wide drop...fingers and toes are crossed.
Blizz stuffed this one up, really. Such a gorgeous pet should have stayed part of a quest line, a long quest line it was, which is fair for a pet like this one. Doing quests as that is one of the reasons i play, at least there was an end, the pet :) But grinding for it, what a drag, not a stranger to grinding as i am "insane". But not fair to do it for this pet.
{EDIT / UPDATE} 3 hours of mindless grinding and still no pet...Further reading has lead me to the top of Feralas where the Emerald whelps spawn...They drop more blues, patterns and possibility of the Emerald whelp pet also...Fingers crossed. :P

Thank god I can cross this one off my list.
I Was farming this and the Emerald Whelpling at the same time, got it 23 kills after I got the Emerald and then moved to New Thalanaar.
Was using a combo of the addons Rarity and Bunny Hunter. I was tracking both this and the Sprite Darter at the same time.
According to the addon:
It's a 1/10000 drop chance
Median loots is 6931
I got it after 1979 kills which is I guess equivalent to having a statistical chance of seeing it of 17.96%.

I farmed these for 10 hours a day for a good 8 months to get my drop. I worked towards this since I was level 34, and I was 85 before I saw a drop. I was determined, but I got one. It's not always the case of "Oh all these people got lucky, maybe I will too!". Be.. prepared for a long farm, it's a lot less disappointing then getting your hopes up.
Cutest little pet though. I always use him to tag along with my troll hunter now. Funny thing is, I didn't even get it from a sprite darter, mine dropped from one of the woodpaws. Talk about lucky.

CONFIRMED DROP from

- proof:
image link.
I have grinded alot of items in WoW but this is by far the worst grind ever.
I am well aware aswell that it's all about luck considering the RNG but I can imagine that alot of people doubt the drop from the whelps!
But this grind earned me alot of gold aswell as I got 9 and yes you heard me - nine,
绿龙宝宝

And 8 rare drops, and this is the most frustrating part as they can't drop any epic world drops. (I did loot 3

aswell, consider it's a world drop.)
Tip: engineers can you use a

This took me over a month to farm, over 11 000 whelps and I do know my image says 10 000 but MobInfo crashed a few times and did not save my info and around 13 500+ in total mobs in Feralas.
Hang in there, eventually you will see it drop and then you will know it's worth the time!

This is just a note for anyone farming this in 4.3. Don't give up; it does still drop!
It took me 11124 Grimtotem Marauder kills across two days--around 17 hours total--to get this guy. I also ended up with over 8000 silk cloth, which I just started vendoring, around 250 greens (including some full transmog sets), several blues and the Fiery war axe.
I strongly suggest installing the Rarity add-on; even if you don't care how many mobs you have to kill to get the egg, it lets you know loudly and visually that you finally have it. Without the add-on I would have missed its drop entirely (was zoning out pretty hard by that point).
A portable mailbox/vendor helps a lot, so if you can find one to bring it's worth it. If you're not a hunter or other class with a speed boost, bring one if you can find one or find another way to up your speed. I popped my hunter alt on follow with aspect of the pack - made it quicker and gave me someone to pass loot to.
Good luck and it was totally worth it; this little bugger is adorable.

I found the Rarity addon really helped me with farming this pet.
I'm one of those people who have a hard time farming for things without constant reward (like a rep increase). So this grind was especially scary because of the extremely low drop rate.
However, rarity gives me a little bar telling what the chances are that I had seen the pet. Every percent, the bar would fill up a bit, just like a rep bar. It became a great reward to see that bar fill up little by little.
So if you are like me and need some sort of reward every kill, I really suggest the Rarity addon.
Bunny Hunter does the same thing, but the drop rate that Bunny Hunter follows is the old drop rate.

Farming tips for this pet:
If you look up
精龙的蛋
, you'll see that it's dropped from almost any mob in Feralas along with a rare NPC in Swamp of Sorrows, however the drop rates are all 0.06 or less accross the board.
I find the best place to farm this pet is in New Thallanaar (west of Camp Mojache), and kill the
恐怖图腾掠夺者
s. They arent on the top of the charts as far as the drop rates are concerned, but these mobs have a VERY fast re-spawn rate, I was one shotting them with AoE spells and they were still respawning faster than I could kill them all, so no time was wasted. Not to mention these guys drop Slik Cloth, and they have an extensive drop table of random world drops which could come in handy for transmogrification so you can still be rather productive during the hours you'll spend farming this. I managed to get 921 silk cloth, and 43 different green world drops, and 2 blue ones.
This item is a BoP so make sure you are using the toon you want to have the pet to farm the pet. Also make sure you have plenty of bag space because you'll be killing ALOT of these.
First thing you'll want to do is get the Rarity addon, you can set this to play a sound when the item finally drops. This is rather important because you stand a good chance at missing the drop, and could go on farming for hours before you realise that you've had it in your bags all that time.
If you are Horde, you'll want to set your Hearthstone to Camp Mojache, it's not far from the farming site, and you'll have access to a mailbox, an innkeeper, and a repair vendor.
If you are Alliance, your closest town with the services mentioned above will be Feathemoon Stronghold on the west coast of Feralas, so you'll want to set your Hearthstone there.
It's also advisable to have a bank alt ready to receive your harvests as your bags will fill up rather fast.
The above tips will help to expedite the process as much as possible. It took me about 6 hours using this method, so you'll want to get comfortable. Basically, just grind your best AoE spells to kill the Grimtotem Marauders in New Thalanaar. If you play Horde, avoid targeting and killing the Night elf NPCs in the area because alerts will go off in general chat, and you'll be flagged for PvP. But you can use AoE spells to kill the Marauders without killing the night elves, as long as you don't target and attack them, but once you attack them, your AoE spells will harm them until you are no longer flagged for PvP. However, flagged or not, the Night Elves will still attack you, but it's nothing to worry about because any 85 can withstand the damage they deal, and no 85 ally gaurds spawn in the area.
If your AoE spells aren't effective enough to kill them at a fast rate, then you can use this macro to avoid targeting the night elf NPCs.
/target Grimtotem Marauder
Avoiding PvP is somewhat important because ally will get alerts and you could get ganked which of course can slow down the process. Even if you're on a PvP server, it may help to do this so as not to alert ally players in general chat, and attract allys looking for someone to gank.
Once you've killed enough of these to fill your bags, just hearth to your nearest faction town, send the drops to your bank alt with the mail box, sell your grays to a vendor, and repeat. It also doesn't hurt to return on foot considering the item drops from almost every mob in Feralas.
I would also like to add, that this is a very optimal time to farm for this along with other random world drops. With a new expansion just around the corner, getting gear and stuff is becoming less important, and you really never know what blizzard might decide to do with things like this to make it even harder to get.
Either way, it's worth it, and I'm glad that it's BoP because it shows that you've earned it either through through perseverance or luck (the former being most likely). IMO, this is one of the best pets in the game, and it just goes to show you that the best things that WoW has to offer cannot be obtained with gold, points, or money.

Just got this little guy at about 23,000 kills. I thought I'd share my experience.
I followed the advice below in Oberheim's lovely post. I used the rarity addon just to keep a measure on exactly how many mobs I'd killed in Feralas. I went to New Thalanaar for a few days on end in order to accomplish this, and I killed Grimtotem Marauder upon Grimtotem Marauder. My total time was around 25 hours of grinding mindlessly, and it took quite some determination to keep going!
The Grimtotems dropped several blues, and even two purples for me (Staff of Jordan and Bow of Searing Arrows), along with several plans (mostly tailoring, and even a blue plan). The rest of the drops are primarily Silk Cloth (an excellent spot for it!), Mageweave, though the stacks are few and far between and limited to one at a time, so it's not a viable spot for it, mana and healing potions and food and drink of the same level. A large quantity of greens drop as well, the most valuable for direct vendoring having a value of about 1 gold 30 silver, and a lot of 'normal' items as well.
I can't emphasise enough how great this place is for Silk Cloth, though. I unintentionally flooded the Silk Cloth market on my server. I'd highly recommend it for any person looking to accumulate the stuff.
Thank you all for your success stories, and especially to Oberheim for your great post (if ever you see this). The stories were a much needed source of inspiration during the grind. I thought I might've been doomed to fight Grimtotem Marauders for the rest of my life! To all aiming to get this little faerie dragon - hang in there! I think mine was a more extreme case, and with a bit of luck it would take far less effort for most. The strange thing's that on my final, successful trip, I only killed about 120 Grimtotems before the egg dropped. Random numbers can be funny that way.
So, consider this an additional confirmation that this little pet still drops. Good luck to everyone who tries to get it - it's really worth it. The little thing is just too cute!

Do yourself a favor when farming this and only farm the Noxious Welps at the north end of the map around the Dream Bough. The reason is that these whelps also drop the Tiny Emerald Whelpling pet, which is BoE and typically sells for 5-10k gold. They have a fast respawn rate (you can do nonstop circuits around the lake), and if you're going to be farming for one incredibly rare drop, you might as well farm up another incredibly rare drop that you can sell at the same time.
Oh, and apparently I'm incredibly lucky at having bad luck. The darter dropped for me after about 650 noxious welp kills. Only problem is I already have it and was trying to get the emerald whelpling. Oh well, I'll save the egg until MoP when it becomes sellable and make a small fortune off it from the pet battle crowd. =)

in northern Feralas. (However, the Tauren don't drop the
Emerald Whelpling
.) I've tried both places and was able to kill many times more mobs per hour in
New Thalanaar
(about 500/hr). Those dang Tauren just don't know when to quit...
Edit: After 7,293 Feralas mobs killed, the
Sprite Darter Egg
dropped off a
Grimtotem Marauder
in
New Thalanaar
! Never would've noticed him if
Rarity
(an amazing addon - get it) hadn't popped up.
I now prepare to be downrated by people who have farmed over 20,000 mobs and have yet to see him drop. However, do not give up hope my jealous friends, for this small darter awaits you to rescue him from his terrible captor(s)!
Blizz better make this a rare-quality battle pet come MoP... Or else...
Edit Edit: Could it be that this pet is now rarer than the
Hyacinth Macaw
? Do my eyes deceive me? Why Blizz, just why.

After almost two weeks of grinding, this little guy FINALLY dropped for me. I didn't have Rarity installed, so I'm not sure how many kills it took me, but definitely well into the 10,000+ range. I almost called it quits a few times, but glad I stuck with it. There's no trick, just keep plugging away, it'll drop eventually!

Seriously this is a RARE drop. I have killed rares (3) with no luck. I have killed Sprite Darters for 2 hours with no luck. And I just started on the Whelps and I have only gotten a green drop for them and everything else. I don't understand how people are getting like 8 to 9 emerald whelps cause I'm not getting anything. I'm going to keep going however long it takes.

Got this today at new New Thalanaar. Rain of fire AoE loot and TV in the background.
Took me 2 hours or so (may have gotten lucky) But at least confirmation that it still drops of them
in 5.0.4

Since the inception of AOE looting in 5.0.4 I decided to take a crack at this pet.
I have been using the Rarity addon to track kills but I fear it struggles to accurately record kill/loot totals. Sometimes when looting 5+ Grimtotems it adds only one to the total. It's reading out 7570 at the time of posting but I reckon it should be closer to 10k. No pet yet.
It has made me wonder though..... Does AOE looting influence the number of 'trials'?

I finally got him after 12789 kills of grimtotem marauders. My tip is go with a mage glyph of arcane explosion and make sure you have enough bagspace.
Ive made thousends of gold while farming there tons of silk cloth that goes for like 20g a stack on my server. and the saltstone transmorg items wil drop there aswell that sells for hundereds of gold a piece. Good Luck farming.

do any of you with the pet currently know if you can "cage" it since the Mists patch? I noticed you can "cage" companions now since we can trade/sell them and what not...I was wondering if I should start watching the auction house for this little guy.

Consider that I got lucky, cause before that was farming 4 days emerald whelpling and got nothing.

Farmed Noxious Whelps so I had a chance at Sprite Darter Egg+Tiny Emerald Whelp. The Darter Egg dropped on my 5th lap around the lake. The Whelps have a great respawn time as everytime I made my way around the lake they were already re-spawned. Farming 2 pets at once is the way I like to farm :)

Just got mine after 4541 Marauders. Never give up! Get some good songs on or watch something in the background. One big tip, pick up the silk! You'll be getting a lot. I just put just under 2000 silk on the AH, I dictated the price up another 10-15g a stack. So much has sold and I've actually made over 1k while getting the pet as well.

I am now at over 16k kills and this thing STILL has not dropped, I'm losing my mind.
Sprite Darters, Whelps, Grimtotem Marauders, I've farmed everywhere.
Meanwhile I've seen at least 10 OOX-22/FE Distress Beacons drop (0.12%) what the HELL?
If you plan on farming this thing, don't sign up for it lightly.

Very upsetting, this just dropped for me.. I guess. I remember farming for hours on days back in the day and finally getting one, oh boy! Now after doing the first rotation of quests in the new Feralas I notice a funny looking item in my bags: a soulbound Sprite Darter Egg. Thanks Blizz for once again putting my ass in my mouth for showing/ever having any effort.

Here's how I got mine - I simply farmed
Frayfeather Stagwing
and
Frayfeather Hippogryph
- they are all in the same area, there's lots of them and they respawn quite quickly. I just looted them (and skinned them) for no more than 1 hr 30 mins every day until one dropped. If you spend too long in one go you will just become despondent and give up, so limit your time per day. It took me about 5 days, then one dropped. I think the Wowhead stats are probably about right.
You'll need to be at a fairly high level (I was 80) and use a flying mount to do it this way.

I was out farming heavy leather off Feral Scar Yetis on my blood elf hunter yesterday to make Comfortable Leather Hats when this dropped. In all honesty I wasn't even expecting it to at all, so seeing this on a mob made me freak out.
This little bugger also goes for a lot on my server's Auction House, but like hell am I going to give it up so easily XD

I
finally
got mine today. Here is what I learned:
My first technique was to farm the
Sprite Darters
(North West of Camp Mojache) and the
Frayfeathers
(west of The Ruins Of Isildien) Each of these have a .03% chance to drop the
精龙的蛋
but they are spaced very far apart and it was taking a very long time.
This week I decided to farm the
The Emerald Whelpling
which drops off of the
Noxious Whelps
which ALSO have a .01% chance to drop the
Sprite Darter Egg
I noticed that the Noxious Whelps are fairly close together and they respawn more quickly than the other NPCs so I started making rounds around the lake. Sometimes there were many people farming in the main area but I found that there were fewer people- if any- on the Eastern side of the lake. The Welps respawn so quickly that usually by the time I got to one end they had already respawned behind me.
I used a druid and set quick keybinds to go from flying to feral (even though I was specced resto to help with the mana costs of shapeshifting so often and so quickly) I would one shot, loot, and fly to the next very very quickly.
This way I obtained BOTH the Tiny Emerald Whelpling and the Sprite Darter Egg in a matter of a few hours. Granted these hours were spaced over a few days.
I didnt use it but I have read that the addon Bunny Hunter is helpful for keeping track of your kills and the % rate you are at for a successful drop.
Good luck! This is the cutest pet in the game :D Go get yours!

Hello all, Just got the drop. It took me about 4 hours across 2 days to find it, I got an Emerald Whelpling as well in the process. I got the drop off of an Ironfur Bear in the Grimtotem compound. I didn't count how many kills it took me, I don't use addons so I'm no help there. I figured I would just go til I was bored or got it. I'm super excited! Good luck to everyone still looking.

I do not see any Blue-Posts here so as far as I am concerned this is ALL speculation. The comments on WowHead usually help best if you are looking for any SPECIAL info. For instance, you will have a difficult time farming for the Restless Shadeling outside of Kara if you don't find out from WowHead first that you get it through a pet battle, where they spawn, and that they only spawn at midnight server! The only thing you really need from this page about this pet is that it is a drop and who drops it.
And one thing we can count on from this page is that it is documented that this pet has dropped from 18 different creatures. So, to farm this pet about the best thing you can do is kill mobs in the manner it is the most enjoyable - or at least the least tedious - to your personal style of play. Check out each mob that can drop it. You might find you would rather kill one particular mob over and over if it is quick and easy for your style of play and they spawn fast enough for you. You might prefer to kill a number of different mobs that are in an area close to each other. Or you might want to map out ALL the mobs that drop it and make a big swing around Feralas over and over until you get it. Find out what works for you. I am pretty sure WowHead knows this, because each of the names in the list of who drops it is actually a link to that mob's page so that you can find out where they are located and you can usually read the comments there about how to handle each of them if you want.
Don't worry about the % or drop rate because from what I understand about the way Blizzard figures the % chance to drop, it does NOT mean if you kill a certain mob a certain number of times you will get the pet. I believe it means each time you kill a mob you have the same percentage chance for it to drop as you had the last time you killed that mob. It is a grind, and if you want it badly enough you just keep killing until you get it.
Unless you just need that reassurance that it actually has dropped for others so you enjoy seeing that printed out right in front of you, or you want to know what mob dropped it to someone on the "first" kill so you can avoid that mob and keep your sanity (let's face it, you have to take them at their word that it dropped on the first kill!) then most of everything else here is chatter and complaints and not all that useful for obtaining this particular pet.

I am farming all dragon whelplings drop from mobs and this one is the hardest one. And for alliance players it is a little bit hard i guess. Because you only left mobs that has 0.02 drop rate. The mobs has 0.03 chance friendly to alliance. You may think 0.03 and 0.02 has no diffrence but believe me it is a huge diffrence.
First i tried Woodpaw Mongrel. But the place full of other Woodpaws and dont know if they drop the egg or not (wowhead said nothing about it) i realise that farmin these was not the right choice. After i pass to Gordok Enforcer but again there were mages as well as Enforcers. Checked wowhead comments once more. Then i travel to New Thalanaar and i think "Thats it". Because area was full of Grimtotem Marauders. No other Marauder kind. And they were spawning insanely quick. But my thoughts and dreams changed after i killed 25K of them. (Some of you wonder if anything change after makin the quest
恐怖图腾来了
. No it does not effect anything. They spawn like hell after you complete the quest.) After a week of farmin i really began to think that i am losing time with these guys. Then i give up for this pet and decide to farm Emerald Whelpling also drop in Feralas. After 150 kill i got the Emerald. 150 kill was seems so quick after 25K kill for sprite darter i decide to drop another Emerald. And after 120 kill Bamm. I got sprite darter egg. And leave Feralas with a smile in my face after 30K total mob kill.
Happy Hunting.

The Whelp took about 80 kills
The Darter took about 200 (New Thalanaar Mauraders respawn so fast)

This is a 0.01% drop. My
Addon
tells me that if it drops in less than 6931 attempts, you're lucky. This is a literal 1 in 10000 drop chance. So you'll either be lucky, or you won't; simple as that.
For everyone who keeps commenting that it cannot be a rare drop since they got it easily, does not mean it isn't.
Stop
.
On the bright side, if you go and farm the Darter from the
Noxious Whelps
, you have a 1 in 1000 chance to get an
Emerald Whelpling
. So, two birds with one stone.

I killed a Gordok Ogre-Mage just outside of the Dire Maul dungeon entrances (in the courtyard) and the egg dropped off it. It surprised me because I thought it only dropped off the Sprite Darters and this ogre isn't even on the list of mobs that can drop it.
I was able to get a screenshot because I was streaming at the time, so I took a screenshot from my stream. Sorry but the low quality but here it is:

I was extremely lucky and got this really fast. After I got Emerald Whelpling, I started circling around Camp Mojache and killing every mob that had chance of dropping Sprite Darter Egg. Maybe 45mins and I got it from Gordunni Tamer at Gordunni Outpost. I'm very lucky, good luck for you too!

New Thalanaar spawn rate seems to have been nerfed, hard. It now takes around 5 minutes or so for the guys to respawn.
I found a new area I liked to farm in. At the Gordunni Outpost, right at the area outside the cave where you can find
大金刚
in front of. 75.21 29.59
These mobs drop cloth much like the Grimtotem does, so I have made a pretty penny just selling the cloth while farming for the egg.
These mobs seem to be set to most of the time have at least 3 or so available and they are all in a small area, making it extremely easy to just one shot em with instant cast ranged abilities and then after a few rounds of this to just run around and pick up the loot before it expires. I'm not sure how it works but after some time the spawn slows a bit in which case I just make a quick lap around the Gordunni Outpost area or empty my bags.

I've been farming the egg from Frayfeather hippogryphs, but after 10 000 kills I've switched to Gordunni Tamers due to faster respawn rates as mentioned in comments (thanks for that!).
6 000 kills later, the egg droped.
So I got mine after cca 16 000 kills.

Sitting at 13538 kills without a single drop. Blizzard must stop artificially lowering drop rates to extend play time in game in order to increase subscription lengths. This is a cheap way of keeping players engaged without offering them any new content. Give it up blizz and start treating your players better. Anything more than 1000 attempts for an item is ridiculous. Start paying your development team and hire more so that your current players have new content to enjoy and quit recycling your old stuff to take cheap profit from those that are supporting you.

Sprite darter egg finally dropped after 18203 attempts from Gorduuni Tamer. This type of RNG that blizzard uses to extend game time paid for by their player base is shameful. What is it going to take for blizzard to finally do right by their players.
