Raw beast hides (and the scraps) are skinned from beasts by skinners. Lower level beasts create scraps instead of whole hides. The hides can also be created by barn workorders with trapped clefthoof and elekks.
There are 3 elite beasts that can be trapped for Barn level 3 using a

A good place to start farming skins in Warlords of Draenor is the low lying area to the southwest of Bladespire Fortress (in Frostfire Ridge zone). The
mobs are easy to kill for a level 90 player, and can give you a good start on levelling your skinning/leatherworking trade. Typically you will get 4 to 6 scraps and a fair bit of
as well. Note the birds in the area (Frostfire Bonestrippers) are also skinnable.
I've noticed that there seems to be a massive disparity at the early 90 levels between the amount of farming required for crafting leather vs. cloth. I've been farming the small Coldsnout herds
to the west of the Garrison. These have been dropping up to about 5
and about 3
. To make a shipment at the tannery takes 50
to make 5
to then make 1
but for tailoring it only needs 5
to make a 1
Now I realise that higher level beasts will have a better leather drop rate but at this level the difference in farming materials required is nearly a factor of 10. This seems very unfair on leatherworkers.
How do you get the recipe to make Raw Beast Hide? I have looked everywhere and read everything but don't seem to be able to find it. I must have 600 scraps that I don't seem to be able to do anything with. Made my Tannery, checked out the Trainer in Ashran and nothing.
Can't remember if I already had the tannery (having learnt leatherwork past 600) but have you tried just "using" the scraps by rightclicking them in your bag? I too was looking under my leatherworking to find the recipe for making leather from scraps and luckily saw the use option being present - thus giving me 1
I've found the Windroc's at 70, 43.4 in Nagrand are easy to kill for a guaranteed Hide or 2 alongside the neighboring Talbuk (not the colts).
Alliance-side leatherworkers, or anyone using a Tannery in their Garrison: Make the most out of your time in Shadowmoon Valley. The Hills of Valuun in front of the Temple of Karabor is the best place to farm, and you'll find quite a bit more as you quest throughout the zone. Do the bonus objective and
there. Spending a few more minutes to do these quests lets you get a little bit more from other players' kills. When you leave Shadowmoon Valley, you won't find nearly as much leather in the other zones.
If you are horde, the best way by far to level your skinning from 1-660 is in the fissure just east of your frostwall garrison. There are tons of wolves and bugs that are very weak and all grant 3-6 beast hide scraps. As a boomkin, I stand at one spot between two wolf dens, and starfall literally aggroes and kills 10-15 mobs in the area by itself. I barely have enough time to loot and skin all the mobs before they disappear. The spawn rate is also incredibly quick (< a min).
One good place to farm this is at Talador killing
they drop 3
(almost all times) the bad thing is they are not many and have low respawn but u can always go around that place and kill some
and some Teroclaw's for scraps.
Just south of Garrison in Shadowmoon Valley at 28,31 there are wolfs. skinning them gives you Raw Beast Hide Scraps. 10 of thees gives you 1 Raw Beast Hide. just south from there you see Bloodthorn Ravager. the also drop that when skinned
I had the best luck skinning the
in ..Nagrand. Roughly coords 88, 49.
Also, made a video of the place. Not very exciting to look at. I mean.. It's FARMING. lol
!00% drop rate and fast spawns - Arak 45,36
The best place to farm this leather, period, is Nagrand, anywhere there are
Other Talbuk come with babies, and the babies aren't skinnable. The Thorncoats are all on their own. Pull some Rocs and smaller (not bulls; bulls are too big) Clefthoof to add to your pile.
1 very good place for farm
Raw Beast Scrap
on the beach Eventide Landing (Shadowmoon Valley). About 12 000 health each and respawn fast, for see map click here :
In my opinion, the very best place for skinning these as a level 100 Alliance (that I have found anyways) in my travels is in Ashran, in the Ampitheatre of Annihilation. Simply run from the town east to the Molten Quarry, up on the slope in the quarry is an alliance warlock Teleporter that takes you instantly to the farming camp, in the Ampitheatre. You are looking for Sporebat Darters, they fly in packs up in the air if you have an aoe ranged, and also respawn quickly along the ground.
The flying packs are the main goal here, cuz you can get 4-5 at once and they usually drop between 2-3 Hides. This can translate to 12-15 Hides a pull! The main attraction to this camp is that the Sporebats also drop 3 Archaeology fragments apiece for the Ashran war effort, (and it is pretty safe to get back to camp to turn in frags using the teleporter) this translates directly to honor, and honor can translate directly to a whole lot of things, JP, gold, mats, gear etc. I dont believe Blizzard has ever had a camp where you could grind honor and skinning at the same time, and I applaude them for it. There was the Crocolisks in TB, but you hjad to hope for random kills. This camp directly does reward you for Arch frag grind with honor.
I really do think this is the best camp I've found so far. I can garuntee horde have a nice camp somewhere in the Ashran zone as well, you can tell Blizzard wants skinners to congregate here, and for opposing factions to world pvp each other. Or well, thats how it looks right now anyways. Skinning and getting Ashran Arch frags at the same time for the win! As I explore Ashran I will update if I find a better camp.
Just a heads up to anyone else farming these hides, go to Eventide Landing north of your Garrison. The Moonshell Crawlers there reward 5-6 scraps, and the respawn rate is absolutely absurd. They respawn faster then you can kill them i believe because they are a quest objective for the Garrison. Compared to killing the Wolfs and Talbuks, this blows them it out of the water. The time it takes to kill and skin 5 Talbuks or Wolf, you could have killed and skinned 20 of them.
Mar'Gok's Overwatch in Nagrand, near 78, 72.
There are about 5
nearby that spawn constantly.
My pick for best farming place, with near instant respawns, and 20-25 Raw Beast Hides/10 minutes (probably faster for you, I'm a slow killer). You can also pick up Raw Clefthoof Meat and plenty of Sumptuous Fur.
Edit: If you have a Barn, you can also trap the Tamed Clefthoof. As a skinner, I was trapping one then going off to kill and skin my own. It does slow the respawn rate down a little with the role play, but once the RP is complete they appear instantly again.
#1 Spot for lvl 100 characters, both Horde and Alliance:
Nagrand 78.5 / 72.0 -- Tamed Clefthoof.
Neutral mobs that
when all dead, so no moving around or unwanted aggro / patrols. Will receive bonus items other than hides: Sumptuous Fur, Raw Clefthoof Meat, both worth extra gold.
The best place
that I've seen to farm
is at Sporemist Shallows in Spires of Arak from level 96
There always seem to be enough people doing
that leave plenty of corpses around to skin without having to kill any yourself. Even if no one is around killing them ahead of you, these mobs are very easy to kill and there are about 20 within the area at any given time.
100% chance of skinning
A great spot is Hallvalor in Nagrand, very east side where wolves are! The place is exactly on the 2nd "A" from word "Hallvalor". Each wolf drops 2 raw beast hides!
Best place is DARKTIDE ROOST in shadowmoon valley, npc named darkwing matron drops atleast 1 raw beast hide and max of 3 beast hide when skinned :)
I tried out both of the most common farming spots; Darkmoon Roost (Darkwing Matron) and Mar'gok's Overwatch (Tamed Clefthoof)
I farmed both spots at fairly low times at the same length of time of 10 minutes and here are my results:
Raw Beast Hide x 28
Raw Beast Hide x54
Killing the Tamed Clefthoof was much much faster. The beasts spawned almost instantly on top of one another and are very easy to kill as an entire pack or in packs of 4 or 2. I also got tons of Sumptuous Fur, as a Leatherworker that's a huge bonus.
The Darkwing Matrons were trickier to pull, especially from the beach, it meant a lot of running around and pulling a lot of unnecessary mobs as well. It's also a very high traffic area especially for Alliance and rep farming. Overall I highly recommend the Tamed Clefthoof's.
Raptors guys, always the raptors. (
Hunters can kite them on their combat mounts. :]
Just north of Lok-Rath (nagrand) is from what ive found to be the best of spots. Not only are there plains full of endless packs of beasts ready to be skinned. The area is home of the spawn point of not one, but at least 4 Rare Elites used for the Steamweedle cartel. Packs of elks stir around the various trees just waiting to be pulled and skinned. Elite Clefthoofs wonder around waiting to be farmed for your local Barn needs! and one can even find chests, and token to be turned into the cartels to help boost your rep with them.....If that kind of thing is you bag....baby.
My #1 Spot for lvl 100
Great Windroc----Nagrand 59.96 / 29.74
There is a dead ironhide clefthoof with 4 great windroc and 1direbeak winroc, i just stay at safe distance from firebeak and start poking great windrocs(im enh shaman), they spawn fast, no need to move from place just poke and they will go to ur place, in half hour got:
97g for grays
190 Raw beast Hide
2500 rep with steamwheedle preservation society
Nagrand is a good place but I've had a lot of competition there depending on the moment of the day.
The animals mostly drop 1 hide (some don't such as the small Talbuks).
Another good spot to farm Raw Beast Hide is in Spires of Arak: Sethekk Hollow.
- Mob: Sethekk Wind Serpent
- Quest why people kill these
This is one of my favourite spots because I've never had real competition here.
Also: players kill the serpents too because of the quest.
These things die VERY fast. For those who don't prefer to kill lvl 100 mobs for whatever reason, this is the best spot I've found atm.
So in short, for those who can dish out the damage or take it without dying, you can also try:
(need to do decent damage)
(need a pet to avoid damage)
As a 545 BM Hunter the best place I've found is Nagrand at the Nesingwary hunting grounds. I would not recomment this area to anyone other than BM Hunters. Please don't downvote if you're a holy priest that tries this. Those wolves will destroy you and your mother.
There are 4 tiers to the hunting area. The lowest has about 10
, and multiple
. I pull this entire area starting with every wolf I see, and then autoshot or arcane shot any talbuk or windroc nearby. Misdirect to your pet, multishot, FD, and then burn them down. Keep your pet healed and pets with shell abilities like turtles or clefthoof are best. I regulargly pull packs of 15+ in this area and have them dead in 1-2 minutes.
After that tier is cleared move up to the next tier. There are about 8 wolves, a few windrocs and 1-2 talbuk. Don't take the time to pull the 2 named roaming wolves runing across the bridge unless they are nearby and easily pulled. They have more HP and don't drop any more leather than the others. Make sure to pull both prowlers in the cave at the back corner of this tier.
After those mobs are burned, run up the long hill making sure to grab the wondering pack of wolves that may take either route of the hill. When you see it you will understand. This tier is a bit more spread out so keeping agro on all of them is a bit more tricky but very doable. There are multiple caves along the right wall, some with two wolves per, and multiple rocs on the left ledge. Figuring out how to get them all is pretty simple but takes a little practice. I drop lots of exploding traps to keep them agroed. With a little practice you can easily pull everything from the bottom of the hill leading up to to this tier to the 3 wolves leading up a hill at the far end of this tier and burn them at the tree near the start of that hill. This is definitely the hardest pull for your pet to survive and I have counted 26 mobs in one pull. If you need to break it up do so. It is still completely worth the effort with this constant pull rate.
The next tier is up a sharp incline hill in the opposite direction of the shallow incline hill that the 3 wolves were pulled at the end of the 3rd tier on to a high floating peninsula. This is the smallest of pulls at about 7 mobs or so but it keeps you killing and gives time for the first tier to respawn. After it is cleared you can jump off and disengage near the ground to eliminate fall damage. The next 2 drops are fairly minimal in damage and shouldn't slow you down. Once at the bottom I rinse and repeat.
There are regularly levelers in the area killing the wolves for the bonus objective so sometimes the skinning is even easier. When I started pulling these large packs I had a bit of trouble making sure they were misdirected to my pet so I guess I'll go ahead and share my tactics here rather than let anyone suffer. Two buttons for misdirect and multishot sucks especially since misdirect isn't on the global cooldown. That means you can cast it at the exact same time as any other spell. At least any one I care to cast it with. The problem is I'm lazy and don't like changing my bar between raiding and farming so I use this. /cast Misdirection
/cast multishot. If you have a focus (main tank)(or I guess a healer you hate) it will misdirect to them and then cast multishot. Otherwise it will misdirect to your pet. You can add it to whatever you want including exploding trap! Anyway... the entire circuit takes me about 8 minutes or so to complete at my fastest and I regularly get 70-80
Raw Beast Hide
. This is while mounted on a
Frostwolf War Wolf
to reduce time used to mount and dismount and adding the ability to shoot on the go. If you don't have this perk I would not use this area. I have run every other posted area as BM and survival and have not gotten the results I have here. I would like to post a recorded statistic for a one hour run of the area, but alas, it is Tuesday at 0546 pst and I am now 3 rum and cokes in and therefore have no more motivation for digging for random facts. You can call me lazy. I'll call me.. old and inebriated. Good luck and happy hunting.
Unlike in previous expansions, characters with
together into these, only characters with
. The right-click spells like
are now all for skinners, and while the old leatherworking spells like
still exist, no new one was created for Raw Beast Hide.
Here are two reasons why farming the Tamed Clefthoof at Mar'gok's Overwatch may not be a good idea for you:
1. They have a very healthy hp pool (130,000 - 159,000), which can be more than double the health of a normal red clefthoof bull and way more than windrocs, talbuks, etc. Unless your gear is really, really good, you will notice that it takes substantially longer to kill them, which slows down your hides/hr rate.
2. They do not drop Hearty Soup Bones, which when killing normal Nagrand skinnable mobs you will get a stack of 20 for every 10-12 kills. That's almost 8 gold you leave on the table for every 10-12 kills by killing these instead of all the other stuff around.
The skinnable wildlife is just so dense in Nagrand that I don't think the perk of being to stand in one place to kill these makes it worth the money and kill time downsides. If your item level is really high and have more gold than you need, obviously then YMMV.
Since all but one comment was 2 patches ago, I want to ask if we can confirm any decent farming areas left?
Or has Blizz nerfed them all?
Blizzard employees literally patrol comments on Wowhead if you didn't know. They come to these pages and see where everyone is farming stuff, then they nerf many of them next patch. I don't get it. People have to be able to farm mats they need Blizz. You expect us to run around for hours trying to farm with little to show for it? There's a million things to do in the game besides waste precious little hours we have doing something that's NOT EVEN LUCRATIVE OR ENJOYABLE. Mats don't get too overfarmed if they don't sell for much... and everyone is happy. Easy to farm, easy to buy. Let the real professions, the ones we need the materials FOR, be the real income makers.
If you try to tell me "well I don't want a profession, I just want to skin and mine and sell mats and make gold that way", then tell me how lucrative it will be if you're spending tons of time running around killing most mobs individually because any decent spot gets nerfed? You won't be making much per hour even if it sells for double the cost. You could have done numerous other things and made more gold in that time. And how much do ore/herb nodes get nerfed? Those are easy to run around get. These mats are flooded on the AH more than leather, even when farming is easy.
If you want to farm mats for gold, you can still make a profit, but you should never expect to make a living off it, and Blizz shouldn't give in to this idea.
We are taking the time to go out and get mats we need, don't make it be such a time consuming chore, when we have so much else to do.
(I asked for a decent area, hoping Blizz won't nerf something that's not overproducing.) (Also, I'm recently returned to WoW, so that's why I'm asking)
Would you guys say it is fair for me to be buying out all auctions where this is below 1.5gold, and then reselling it at a rate of 1.5 gold per? Is that a pretty fair price for this item? I am trying to get better at investing in the AH.
Found this page with two good farming spots. Both are in Nagrand and the mobs respawn extremely fast!
IMO it's probably better to farm the wolves though.
Ok, I got an alliance leatherworker up to level 100 and I have a horde leatherworker at level 95. Know what? Alliance has a HUGE advantage in farming these. Beasts you can skin or trap are hard to come by in Frostfire Ridge, but they are literally everywhere in Shadowmoon Valley. In fact, the whole zone is so good for leatherworkers that horde leatherworkers should probably get into the zone and get a flight zone so they can go back as needed.
Recommend decent ilevel, I'm doing this on a 650 hunter alt, with a level 3 barn.
You don't have to have a barn to farm here, but if you do happen to have one, there's a few
that pat nearby you can trap for the Barn, as well.
Mostly you're going to be killing
at 52.7, 38.8 in Nagrand. Also nearby, you will find plenty of
and they all respawn fairly quickly. (Nearly instantaneous for the birds sometimes.)
I make a circuit of the triangle made by the coords below, killing and trapping and by the time I get back to the start, they've respawned:
/way Nagrand:Draenor 54.5, 36.6
/way Nagrand:Draenor 53.5, 36.4
/way Nagrand:Draenor 52.7, 38.8
For those without coords, it's just to the Northeast of the Ruins of Na'gaw, where
is to turn in
Any way of getting these without skinning? I've got myself a tannery building in my alts garrison, but I don't have the skinning one nor skinning as a proffesion. I can mile herbs with an item from the scribe's quarters on my main, so is there anything like this in the tannery?
Sumptuors Fur & Raw Beast Hide Farming
If you want a guaranteed drop when skinned, plus sumptuous fur then I recommend the Pridelands Goretusk between Southport and Pinchwhistle in Arak... coords 47:63. For that matter everything I've skinned in Spires of Arak is dropping at least one Raw Beast Hide. Respawn rate is fast enough that once you run through the pride from north to south, the ones in the north have respawned.
I'm just going to throw this out there because there seems to be a lot of negativity out there regarding the farming options for
Raw Beast Hides
in Draenor and given it is probably one of the most painstaking items to farm in Warlords of Draenor as well. But I have always found one of the easiest places to farm these using the
is in a location that you discover early on in Shadowmoon Valley you might already know where I am referring to just by me mentioning the area. But seriously if you go back to the location within Shadowmoon Valley with the Rockhide Bull's and Rockhide Calves. There are several herds and they are very easy to kill quickly when your toon is lvl 100 and geared ilvl 630ish or higher of course. The location is in Shadowmoon Valley about:
/way Shadowmoon Valley:Draenor 59.61 36.19
You only get Raw Beast Hide Scraps from skinning these but you get a decent amount by going through these herds fast, plus skinning them helps the herds to respawn quickly. Grab other skinnable mobs in the area if the herds start respawing to slow or other peeps come by to get a few quests done. These Rockhide Bull herds also drop a decent amount of Sumptuous Fur along with a few green item drops and they also occasionally drop a Pristine Ivory Tusk which fetch 5 gold a piece. They also drop a few other items that get decent gold from sales, not to forget they also drop plenty of Raw Elekk Meat to help fine tune those Draenor cooking skills and recipes.
Other skinnable mobs in the general area include:
avoid them as they are a waste of time.
I have generated over 2k gold from salable items and over 150 Raw Beast Hides and over 200 Sumptuous Fur in only 1 hour and thirty minutes farming here.
Things that help:
#1 Having Draenor Flying is very helpful for speed, and recommended, but if you only have ground mounts this is still decent farming, in my opinion.
#2 Having your skinning skill maxed of course also helps but not needed, you will most likely max it in the process.
#3 Use mainly AOE attacks when taking out these herds.
I hope this info was useful.
Regarding buying items in bulk from the garrison traders
I am not sure if this represents a recent change or not, however I discovered that once you <shift>-click an item in the trader's UI, you can simply type in a desired quantity of the item up to the maximum stack size for that item.
This promises to bring reductions in aggravation as well as repetitive stress injuries.
You can make your entries using main keyboard numeric keys and/or the number pad keys (And, yes, you
use a combination of both, Weisenheimer).
It is not even necessary to click in the number display area in order to enter the quantity.
judging from a lot of these comments, it seems that the best place to farm Raw Beast Hide is in Nagrand. Pretty much anything that moves can be skinned.
Just need a place where mobs spawns quickly.
One of the best places I have found is killing the
around the area of
Just focus on the on the Riverbeasts and not the elite Tramplers that are there. The Tramplers grant essentially the same amount so it would just be more time. A good portion of the Tramplers are sleeping so they should not be a problem unless you use AOE.
The Wetlands Riverbeasts are spread out in pairs and, take pretty much the same amount of time to kill as other farming mobs mentioned in Nagrand but grant
instead of just 1.
Guys, I created a video describing the idea the location in Nagrand to power farm both sumptous furs and Raw Beast Hides:
I hope my tip video helps!
The best guide up there
For me best method was to farm
They can be found at coordinates 78:72. They respawn very quickly. When you kill all of them, 2 new will spawn. After these 2 another 2 will spawn and so on...
is NOT kidding. I made my way over there, downed a
and started grinding casually for what ended up being around 30 minutes. I also killed and looted the
whenever it was convenient, and I also killed/looted/skinned the two
East of the mobs in question (the two nearer the villaga area) Here's what I ended up with:
Raw Beast Hide
Raw Beast Hide Scraps
Raw Clefthoof Meat
Super Cooling Regulator
Frostwolf Tailoring Kit
Bloodmane Bow of the Quickblade
Gorian Staff of the Quickblade
Gorian Dagger of the Aurora
Howling Axe of the Quickblade
Stonecrag Gauntlets of the Feverflare
Ironfist Breastplate of the Feverflare
Meadowstomper Hood of the Harmonious
Voidwrap Sandals of the Aurora
Vendor food (125g75s2c worth):
Worn Flat Tooth
Punctured Plate Bracers
2019 - confirming previous comments, Tamed Clefhoof is the best mob to farm raw beast hide. They re-spawn as soon as they're killed. Had a hard time keeping up with skinning; Darkmoon Firewater definitely would help here!
Up until 65 (in Draenor Skinning) I was getting only the Raw Beast Hide Scraps. I hit 65 and I got the full hide. Anyone able to confirm/deny this?
