of the pet from the PTR, including it's abilities!
He better randomly say: "
Gonna ook you in the dooker!
This guy vs Clock'em
I got this in build 17247 by opening a treasure chest with
You know you thought of it too once you saw the name.
Was hoping this little guy would interact with
since they both have the gloves, but when I pulled my Clock'em out next to a Bonkers, he didn't seem to do anything. Bummer.
Note you cannot crate and give/sell Bonkers
You'd think he would be a bobcat..
Got this little guy after buying seven (7)
and opening chests on the Timeless Isle. Good luck!
I received mine while opening the treasure chest with the key. Cute lil guy. I named him Ook Dooker. :P
I really wish he was tradeable. I'm now stuck with three because I like gambling too much.
His drop-rate is retarded, in that you will get sick of seeing him very, very quickly. I got 6 of him from one gambling session. untradable, unsellable, can't disenchant.
Just a blue waste of space who causes anger every time you loot him.
The RNG on this pet is insane. I've spent 49 keys so far and gotten nothing. I have opened every chest at least once and many multiple times. I envy those who have gotten it in <10 keys.
I've opened at least 60 chests in the last 2 days and no Bonkers drop yet like many other recent posts. Given that the drop rate on
was nerfed according to the
5.4 Hotfix Notes
on September 12th, I'd be willing to bet that Bonkers got the nerfbat as well. :(
Finally got the bastard. It took me around 80 caches but one of them dropped 10k coins, thank you very much.. ;)
Keep going, it's in there for you!
25k coins lost, about 30 epics, 0 pets :(
45k coins lost, 46 epics, 0 pets. I think ill pass this one for now.
5k coins and its mine!
Got this rascal 4 times now, can't sell, can't cage....nor keep....his fleas will drive me ooker.
Can confirm that on live his drop rate is still greater than the
since only got 1 burden and 4 of these in the 50ish or so keys I've wasted.
Happy scracthing in getting this guy
P.S. Keep an
Three things to note about getting this pet:
The chests are all the same object with a random appearance, so it doesn't matter which one you click. There is no "right" chest and it's all just dumb luck.
The drop rate is low, around 1%. Expect this pet to cost you
ten thousand coins. Likely more.
When opening a chest, you have a chance to get a random amount of coins. Sometimes you get more than the cost of the key, so the cost of this pet isn't
as bad as it may seem at first.
When you click on it, the monkey sounds are awesome. Though it does not say anything or have any tag lines.
After learning this pet you are unable to cage it making it completely bound once picked up and unable for trade, this is normally mentioned on other pets such as Unborn Val'kyr but it has been missed out here.
I've gotten 4 of these with 15 keys. It's starting to become annoying at this point because i can't do anything else with them but keep them.
Trying for Bonkers I opened 70 chests.
I got between 1 and 900 coins per chest (average 377), 1 Burden, 8 items (Burden, Cloak, 2xCloth Helm, Leather belt and gloves, Mail belt, Plate Bracers, and Ring), and 1 Bonkers, spending 12,349 Timeless Coins.
Edit: got it and updated stats.
I got it first key! My luck is normally not that good. And I had bought 10 keys first thinking that I would have to re-buy them in increments of 10 a few times before getting Bonkers!
Bonkers now vendors for 25g.
99 chests opened:
86 (86.87%) contained
11 (11.11%) contained various armor items (all types of specializations).
1 (1.01%) contained
1 (1.01%) contained
I spent ~49,500 coins on keys and received 27,751 coins in return, for a ROI of 56%. The average return was 323 coins (based on the sum divided by the number of keys), which means if one spent 100,000 coins on 200 keys, they would receive, on average, 64,600 coins in return (or 56k coins using my ROI, resulting in a lower 280 coins returned per key). This differs from my actual return, as one method uses sum while the other uses average.
Using the return of approximately 325 coins (based on my average and others' averages), each key theoretically costs only 175 coins, which means that 100k coins on 200 keys will actually result in, if reinvested, ~570 keys. Every 500 coins is worth approximately 1.65 keys (or 20 keys will get you 33 chests if you buy new keys with the coins you get from the chest).
Cost me around 70,000 coins in total.
Ehm i opened about 100 chests today and i got 5 Bonkers. Is this pet even rare? also got 1 burden :D
Bonkers, The Dragonkiller. 2 Shots almost any dragon pet.
Got it on my 8th chest. Seems i was lucky buy my friend told
me he has had 3 of these out of 60 keys so its quite high drop it seems.
This pet is amazingly handy for certain dragon fights (notably Yu'la, Broodling of Yu'lon). However as with all pets with a
ability, his survival is greatly improved (and sometimes crucially dependent upon) being faster than the pet you are fighting.
This pet has 5 possible breeds: P/P H/P P/S H/S S/S
resulting in three possible speeds at level 25: 260, 289, 325
Because of this, pet battle experts may be trying to collect particular breeds of him.
Unfortunately, it appears to be impossible to determine which breed you've won from a chest without actually learning the pet item. Furthermore he is not cageable and of course there is a 3-per-species limit in your journal. This implies that once your journal contains three of him, the only way to try for a new breed is to destroy one of your learned ones to free up a slot for learning (which may result in a "worse" breed than what you destroyed).
The pet item does contain a uniqueid in the item hyperlink, but it appears to have no correlation with the actual breed that it teaches. The breed appears to be randomly determined when you actually learn the item. I verified this by copying my character to PTR while holding five of the items in my bags. Not only was there no correlation between the unique id and the breed it taught, but furthermore the "same" item sometimes taught different breeds on PTR vs live.
In my infinite maturity, I chose to name him after Mephistopheles.
Or more specifically...
Personally, I've found that searching for Bonkers is very profitable, if you have multiple toons with enchanting that can disenchant the various types of armor that will drop. I had a cloth enchanter and a plate enchanter, but after the island came into existence, I also learned enchanting on one of my mail-wearing toons, and a plate-wearer.
I just bought 160 keys, getting Bonkers on chest # 153 (I buy in 20 key increments).
Here is a breakdown of my "loot":
Each key costs 500 coins, so I spent 80,000 coins. However, I got 52,100 coins back from all the chests. Thus, my net cost was just 27,900 coins.
For 27,900 coins, I received one Bonkers, and 16 different Timeless pieces.
Thus, on average, each Timeless piece cost me 1,744 coins.
Compare that to the 7,500 coins it costs from the vendor to purchase Timeless Armor Caches, and this is a MUCH better deal.
After mailing all the pieces to the proper toons that could DE, I had 21 Sha Crystals (sometimes I would earn 2 crystals while D/E'ing). But even without the bonus procs, that would still be 16 Sha Crystals. On my server, the Sha Crystals still bring between 100 and 110 gold each.
In summary: 27,900 coins resulted in 1 Bonkers, and around 2,100 gold. I just wished that opening the chests was quicker, as I have about 1 million coins between all my toons. That's a ton of DE'ing in my future.
Be prepared to waste 50k-100k coins. You're better off saving for the 100k mount. That obviously requires rep farming as well, but this pet is actually pretty rare. After seeing so many people with it and hearing all these stories of how people got it within the first couple chests... I ended up very disappointed figuring I would have got it by 20k coins.
At first glance getting this may seem discouraging. At 500 coins per try and a drop rate under 2% it seems like it is an expensive effort.
However, it is important to remember that many of the chests give coins. I received between 150 to 800 coins in each chest that did not contain an item.
Overall it took me 22 chests (yes, luckier than average) however; these chests only cost me a total of 2900G when I consider the coins I received back from the chests.
So the attempts do not actually cost 500 coins each. They are likely going to cost you less than 150 coins each, and you may get a few timeless items you could use along the way. I received two timeless items from the chests.
In fact I suspect Bliz calculated it such that based on the drop rate and coin return rate on chests this pet is intended to cost approximately 7500 coins on average. The same price as the coin purchasable pets:
. The difference is pursuing this pet will also include earning BoA timeless items.
LOL I eventually got Bonkers after opening 97 chests, they are right it is completely random. Started by the cave entrance and worked my way around nearly 4 times. Still I have 4 plate items, 3 leather and one cloth. I also got a Timeless Curio and a Burden of Eternity. Should keep my alts happy when they reach 90. So "don't give up guys" you will get BONKERS eventually.
Took me a net of 6700 timeless coins. I just opened every chest once and then started again. never buying more than 5 coins at a time just in case I got him earlier. Got several timeless armor upgrades as well.
Found an addon for battle pets and it showed mw where bonkers was ,have problems with legendary pest in celestial tournament so i wanted Bonkers for the dragonkin.
Went with 63800 coins and bought keys and i got this:
7 plate items
4 leather items
8 cloth items and burden plus 2 Bonkers i would say he drops at around 100 chests opened.Happy foraging. :)
Just got my 14th one of these, sure wish i could give them away to friends or atleast vendor for 50-100G at the least.
Took me 19 Bonkers before I finally got a PS breed... but I can certainly confirm that all five breeds do exist...
Personally, I think SS and PS breeds are the two best (PS is nice against Yula each week).
100000+ coins looking for a bonkers
Got 26 timeless items then got frustrated and logged out; went to the gym, came back, opened another 40 boxes.
6 more timeless pieces, a Burden of Eternity, and...
2 Bonkers :)
Had it in my first chest :P
I got 5 of them with 15 keys. My bank is just bursting with monkeys.
I had godlike luck getting this guy. Literally the very FIRST chest I opened he was in.
Even more I ended up getting 4 of him within 50 Keys, after I opened that first chest I couldn't leave the cave. Needless to say when I saw on Wowhead his drop rates I was pretty shocked. It sucked to have to vendor him away since you can't give them or trade them.
it is the new swearword when it pops out of its chest and makes me vendor 500 coin for 25g. You cant put them in cages to sell so i swear "BONKERS!" everytime 500 coin is wasted.
Spent 15k on keys today, ended up getting 4 of these.
It's really too bad this isn't tradeable. I have 280000 useless coins ...
I initially purchased 40 keys(mis-clicked, meant to just do 20) for a total of 20k coins spent and received Bonkers on my 25th chest opened.
I opened them randomly, just going down one side and then to the other side. There's no pattern to it - just a rare drop rate. If you don't have Bonkers yet, what better way to spend your Timeless coins?
Can anyone confirm whether or not these still drop? I've used 450 keys so far and still not seen him which seems, ya know, insane. And very frustrating when trying to get the achievement for bigger bag.
That was key #44 and still nothing =-(.
edit: Yay! Got it on my 54th key.
Obtained after 170 attempts.
I just wanted to confirm that this is still available. I got it after opening 199 chests.
i got bonkers on the 5th try
on my first attempt. Didn't think much of it until I saw the 1,5% drop chance. It's a good looking companion. A monkey with gloves. What's not to love.
After reading the comments here I thought I'd try my luck, as I had 35k coins just sitting there. I bought 10 keys to start off with and looted Bonkers on the 9th try.
Bonkers went Bonkers. I started with my hunter chest opening and ran thru most of my coins. No luck after 178 tries. Switched to lock that I had a tonne of coins from rep grinding for that stupid porcupette (not the pvp one) that I thought why not, I'll try. Ran thru about 80 and got Bonkers, YEAH! That was the about the odds quoted. It wasn't the breed I wanted so as I have a tonne of coins and no way am I ever going to kill another Yangoul to get rep for mount I thought I'd try a bit longer for another breed. Well, at my third lot of 20 coins I got another so was well pleased, so I decided to use up the coins for the hell of it to get the key out of my bag. I got three more in a row! So now I have 5 of them, which is a shame. You can't cage them and there is no way to learn what breed they are before you add them. Damn Blizz, you're messing with me again!
Got one within 20 keys the other day, think the drop rate on these is pretty good. Also you get about half your coins back from the chests so even 10k coins goes a long way.
Took 16 tries today.
Got Bonkers today after 64 keys, and a Burden 3 keys after that (67 total).
today 24/06/2016 after using over
extremly low drop rate !
You can cage Bonkers and AH him as of the patch on 7/19/2016.
As of July 19th 2016 this pet is now cageable!
I spent several hours last night running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to find these rare mobs/drops. So today I made myself a little guide to make my pet hunting smoother.
This is listed in order going clockwise from Huojin Landing:
- (25.5, 29.2) These
from their big brothers and sisters. I like to clear them out and then run over to the crane nests and make a round while the Dancers are respawning.
Azure Crane Chick
- (33.0, 42.5) These are
from crane nests. They are found under trees all around the Celestial Tournament. Look for a cluster of several small chicks under trees, that's where you'll find nests.
- (Need Highwind Albatross) These are wild pets you can obtain by
. Many of them are on high cliffs that are unreachable since we can't fly here. See
Cielos's explanation on how to get up there
- (43.6, 40.7) (Cavern of Lost Spirits) These
from the rare elite
Spirit of Jadefire
. He spawns randomly in different parts of the cave. The spawn time ranges from 30-60 minutes.
- (43.6, 40.7) These
from the Foreboding Flame mobs inside the cave, the same cave where the Jadefire Spirit drops.
- (East & South of Celestial Tournament) These are just normal wild pets that are caught by
- (58.0, 42.2) Inside the cave you will find
who will sell you a key for 500 Timeless Coins. Bonkers can be
from the chests.
- (Blazing Way & Timewalker Ruins) This is a wild pet that can be captured by
. Seems like it's almost always a secondary pet to an Ashwing Moth or a Skywisp Moth.
- (64.0, 70.6) These
from the rare elite
. Bufo spawns approximately every 30-60 minutes. Killing the frogs in the area does absolutely nothing.
- (45.6, 72.9) These
from the friendly Nice Sprites you see surrounding the trees with orange crystals on them. You "use" the purple crystals nearby to turn them into Scary Sprites so you can kill them. The purple crystals are on a spawn timer, so if you don't see them it's because they're not up yet. If you're standing near the tree, you'll see the purple crystal if it's up. (see
- (41.1, 81.2) These
from the rare elite
Gu'chi the Swarmbringer
. He spawns at the south-east edge of Old Pi'jiu Village by the water then paths counter-clockwise around the village until he reaches the shore again. His spawn timer is approximately 30-60 minutes.
- (36.9, 76.5) These
from the rare elite
Zhu-Gon the Sour
. Apparently he spawns with the "Skunky Brew" event that occurs every 30-60 minutes. (see
- (67.3, 44.1) These
from the rare elite
. Follow the path from south of the Celestial Tournament all the way around to get here. He spawns under a tree at the top of the hill on the left hand side with a bunch of his little sprite friends. His spawn timer is approximately 30-60 minutes, but if he is killed and not looted it throws the timer off by about 30-45 minutes.
- (64.5, 27.1) These
from the rare elite
at the ruby lake. (see
elfomal's instructions to get there
) The spawn timer is approximately 30 minutes, but make sure you loot the body so it despawns otherwise it will take an extra 30 minutes.
Death Adder Hatchling
- (31.0, 68.0) These
from the rare elite
. My understanding is that it will spawn in the place of a dead Death Adder. Focus on the south-west where they are more closely clustered together. (see
- (28.7, 75.4) These
from the rare elite
. For more information, check out
Heathmonn's very detailed instructions

I only realized I wanted this pet today, and I was fortunate in that I had already spent a lot of time on the Timeless Isle reputation farming for Shaohao. Even after the mount, I had tens of thousands of coins left: 37,000+.
With that, I was able to buy 74 keys.
Before checking my main toon, I hopped on an alt, and within an easy 20 minutes of messing around hot spots on the island, had enough coins to grab 12 keys. No Bonkers in any of the chests.
Switched to my main toon, where I did the math and got my keys. Had nothing left to spend them on, so I didn't mind dishing out all the keys.
I got Bonkers on key 5.
Because I had the keys, felt good, and the rate of coin return was pretty good, I just kept going to see drop rate.
I didn't see another Bonkers.
86 keys...one Bonkers.
I was lucky as frick.
Wow, spent more than 60k coins and when I purchased the last key, the pet finally dropped!
Still dropping as of today, but it took me nearly 100 keys to get this bugger. Just keep on trying if you have some bad luck.
